  2. Yea I already sold a stack of carbos someday with 1 less 0 than it should, did I get a refund ? Nah. People are responsible for their mistakes, the bigger the cost the more attention they should put in buying/selling an item

  4. The irony in all of this is that these measures are taken to protect snipers, snipers who take advantage everyday of naive and/or clumsy sellers who underprice their listings. There are two parties involved with GTL transactions and yet GTL scam bans only serve to protect one of those two parties from what I can see. Edit: Why are we discussing price-caps, but not price-floors. Imo, you either do nothing and let the free market regulate itself or you put in place consistent measures that affect both parties, not only one. What we have now is pretty much a half-measure which only discriminates more agaisnt sellers. Sellers can be taken advantage of, but the same doesn't apply to buyers (they can't be taken advantage of).

  7. It just came to me, how are you going to work around those people who put on GTL pokemons with particles? I actually bought (and still got them!) 2 mons that appeared on GTL for what I believed, was a very low price, and mistook the particle icon for a shiny icon. I probably don't have to add that in fact, they were terribly overpriced and I lost like 6m on purchasing them? To be completely honest I don't care about punishing anyone because the whole case is on me being blind, but if you want to follow that kind of principle then the particle thingy would need to be adressed as well. Also once again, please unban those people whom you have perma'd, I would literally never pin that kind of activity under "scam" and I doubt those people knew that this would count into it as well. I can understand a ban that can last from a day to a week just to make people aware that they were doing something wrong, but perm is way too much.

  8. It happens to everyone to misread something every once in a while and if you fell into one of these trap then it's also your fault for not paying attention. It should serve as a lesson to be more careful the next time around. On the other hand however, if your sole purpose is to trying to set up these traps using items that look alike so that people would hopefully fell for them, then I don't think you should go "unpunished". The players behind those schemes are fully aware of what they are doing yet are willingly taking advantage of it regardless of what may happen- it's premeditated. If you abuse a feature to a point where it becomes detrimental to others, then I think at some point something must be done to prevent that abuse, whether by enforcing a rule to stop that behavior (which I don't think is ideal on the long run) and/or changing how the system works.

  9. completely agree with this. Perma bans seem way too harsh here. From my knowledge of these cases, the scammed party thought they were snagging a good deal, but instead got a lesson in needing to be more careful. Granted, part of the problem stems from people trying to "snipe" stuff off the GTL but are up against bots in addition to other snipers, so they can't take the time to review the potential steal of a buy. But, imo, high risk, high reward. While these scammers are scummy, I don't think they deserve the death penalty... One thing I will say, is it's definitely not a good look on the GTL to see items heavily listed at absurd prices. imo, the item side of the GTL should just be like the irl stock market with bid/ask prices and the highest bid price and lowest ask price displayed. On the monster side of the GTL, just leave it as is. Is this sort of scam really that rampant over there? (Maybe for shinies? I dunno)

  10. So I saw the thread. Regardless of how I personally feel on the matter, I'd like to offer something constructive that may be taken into consideration to prevent these issues from occurring in the future. I play a game called Escape from Tarkov, there is a "Flea Market" that functions very similarly to the GTL in PokeMMO. In this market, if a player decides to list an item for sale at a much LOWER price than its comparables/buy an item at a much HIGHER price than its comparables they are met with a pop-up, clear as day, in the middle of their screen with a notice that reads something along the lines of "you are about to purchase/sell an item at a much lower/higher value than what is currently listed, are you sure?" Implementing something like this would allow buyers/sellers the protection against potentially making a bad sale/purchase and would also eliminate the burden from the person who under/overvalued an item by warning the other party and requiring their consent to continue with the transaction. I understand for Pokemon specifically this would likely be difficult to code, given the differing values of Pokemon based on IVs/EVs/shiny/particles/egg moves/nature/gender etc. But, it's just something I thought I'd present since it works in another game rather well. My 2 cents.

  11. My question is, was not that everyone could put the price they want? Then the buyer decides whether to buy it at the speed of light or take a good look before making a mistake.
    6 points
  12. Could all be solved by them changing the color of the item. Why the hell they picked 2 very similar ones is just a bad move off the start, and they redid them. Also
    6 points
  13. The 100/1,000 RP thing seems to be what's driving most of the bans. You could make the argument that a constant gtl refresher might not see the whole item's name, and while that's true, it's probably on them? + If a player really wanted to get cheap 1,000 rp, is it not too much work to type that in the search bar and snipe without worry? imo the best fix would be to make the colors of the items distinct enough (even for colorblind people) and observe the buying and selling trend from there
    6 points
  14. Instead of the devs changing the color or icon for 100RP vs 1,000RP, they're just banning people because others couldn't read and had to click multiple buttons to confirm their purchase. I mean, players were punished because others can't read. Simple as that.

    What is GTL Scamming?

Okay boys and girls, listen up. It's time for an economics lesson with Desu. Free Market is only a free market if it has a few principals that are required to have a functional free market, one of which is informed consumerism. All parties on a contract must be aware of the terms and and conditions of what they are agreeing to. This includes the price and actual value of the item they are selling/purchasing. In these cases, there's a clear lack of consent made obvious by immediate regret upon realizing the true terms of the "contract" they just agreed to. Even some of the freest of markets have consumer protections and requirements for refunds build into the economic system for people who express regret. This keeps the system fair, there's no benefit in scamming someone if they can just return the item up for 24 hours. There's no mechanism to do this on the GTL, so we have to enforce additional rules to prevent this. In a true free market, scamming and ripping off other players will hurt your reputation, but the GTL being anonymous doesn't have any feedback mechanism. A true free market would be much more baazar style, where every seller has their own stall or business. Competing for customers based on trust, reputation, and reliability, in addition to price. The GTL is arguably, not a free market due to these limitations. High-pressure sales tactics are another highly regulated and illegal practice that conflicts with true free market informed consumerism. You can't have informed consumers if you do not have time to properly consider your options and responsibly make a purchase. The situation of listing an item which looks like it is under-priced and will sell extremely fast is exactly a high pressure sales tactic. This behavior of listing an item with a misleading price and creating a false sense of urgency is a textbook Illegal high-pressure sales tactic. Lastly, this scam has always been against the rules, but it has gone unreported due to the anonymous nature of the GTL. This isn't a sudden rule change, but an increase in enforcement due to the rapid increase in scams. No staff member, and to my knowledge, no friend of staff member has fallen for this scam. Enforcement has started due to the increase of players reporting and being made aware that they can report this.

  18. We're already planning to address it in more ways, we've already implemented price caps to prevent the main issue, which was order of magnitude differences. It's easy to miss the extra digit when they are all the same. The RP Vouchers are extra egregious because there's two different places this order of magnitude occurred, on the item itself and on price. But by no means was this the only item this happens with. We've had to restrict other items, and will very likely have to add more too. Sure, a better icon wouldn't even prevent the issue entirely, but it might help a little. We're considering other options to fix this, such as an automated valuation with warnings when value is too far off, but these will take time to implement. It becomes extremely hard to do for non-fungible items, but for fungible items it may be reasonable to do soon.

    What is GTL Scamming?

The thread is a bit too heated atm, throwing insults and not really conductive to an actual discussion. I would have liked to reply earlier and leave it open, but for now it's better off left locked. We've wanted a value tracker and automated price limits for a while, it just gets extremely complicated with non-fungible items (monsters). So it never has really gotten enough dev time. We should probably have still already implemented it for fungible items. I edited my reply to address the anon aspect afterward. The problem is that these players have already gained (in some cases quite large) amounts of value from this. Announcing it wouldn't make that go away, we've already added upper bounds price caps to prevent further exploitation and will make this system better and less reliant on manual updates in the future. It should be obvious, but if prices were to get close to these limits they would be raised, but a few users in this thread don't quite understand this. The work is being done, but the users who have already taken advantage of other users is a separate issue.

  21. As a someone who has been around for a while, there was something exciting about every new addition to PokeMMO to shake up the metagame. With every update, you always had to approach the competitive teambuilding differently which was fun. Between the beginning of PokeMMO and the implementation of Unova, there was quite frequently some mix-ups to the metagame and that kept the competitive play interesting. However, since the beginning of Unova basically nothing has changed in competitive play besides giving Pokemon Gen 8 moves which barely did anything else than slightly buff a Pokemon or three. This is why I'm suggesting that you would give us Hidden Abilities already. I know you had some great plans to implement them in some special way like in some dungeon or something, which is cool and all - the problem is that we have been waiting for that for like over 3 years already? And I haven't seen a single mention about actually making them a reality in anytime soon. That's why even though your idea was nice and all - I would suggest that you would implement an easy way to obtain Hidden Abilities, preferably to every Pokemon (besides the obviously broken ones like Speed Boost Blaziken). Hidden Abilities would shake up the metagame at least a little bit and it would give us a new way to approach competitive battling and give us something new to do competitively. Playing the same exact metagame for 3+ years is starting to get old.

  23. First of all , stop banning people for stupid things , and second , before you ban someone try to warn them at first , and third when you ban someone give him the reason of the ban instead of only writing "scamming" because there's a lot of ways to scam . Also do you protect stupid people ? I mean if i sell an item for 100k while it cost 10k then shame on the buyer who's stupid , also putting on GTL an item value 10k for 100k its my responsability im free to sell my items for the price i want . But please for once ... Think before you act -_-

  25. Past: "We'll add dungeons and Sinnoh later, we're currently working on them, We'll change the PvP Style for players sake and it'll make all tiers alive with exclusive prizes. Hidden Ability will come later." (They released Sinnoh which made many new pokemons accessible, they changed the complete PvP style which made NU,UU popular and Doubles is now also a thing.) Now: "We'll release this golden poop with a time limited sticker." (They do add seasonal, time limited vanity in TIME with events or without sometimes.) Bonus: LC is now removed. YES PvP PLAYERS NEED HAs. I UPVOTE.

  26. Jesus christ, just change the colour of the voucher and unban these people. btw, all of this is rich coming from the staff team that allowed Revz to open a thread lowballing for a desu coat and deleting every post pointing that out, effectively helping a staff member scam old/returning players.

  27. IMO you are still taking advantage of other people by making it seem like you are selling something as something else. You exploit the fact that the RP vouchers have very similar sprites, put the item as if it were a bargain while exploiting the fact that usually those kind of opportunities don't last very long on the GTL which incentivizes people to buy as fast as possible without double checking. You are also overpricing your item while knowingly taking advantage of what I just mentioned. Having said that, I think permaban is too harsh because people have been abusing this method for a long time, specially after the sprite changes and I have never seen this behavior being explicitly forbidden anywhere which made it seem like the devs/mods were actually fine with it (I didn't do it but that was the impression I got too).

  28. Like Desu did? Should I just talk to people in a condescending tone instead, ignore most things, lock the topic, and completely ignore the fact that people read what they agreed to purchase, and clicked yes? Then had buyers remorse because the sniper got sniped and cried because they can't read? "Free Market is only a free market if it has a few principals that are required to have a functional free market, one of which is informed consent. All parties on a contract must be aware of the terms and and conditions of what they are agreeing to. This includes the price and actual value of the item they are selling/purchasing. In these cases, there's a clear lack of consent made obvious by immediate regret upon realizing the true terms of the "contract" they just agreed to." Yea, like actually reading what the hell you're purchasing. Then clicking Buy, then clicking Yes when asked are you sure. But please tell me how they didn't know what they were doing, because they didn't read, and why it's someone else's fault that the sniper didn't read.

  29. I think a simple solution would be to add a small delay after listing something on the GTL. For instance, an item gets listed on the GTL, it takes a 5 mins delay before anyone can purchase the item. During these 5 mins, the seller can cancel the listing (in the event of a pricing mistake perhaps) and the potential buyers can look at the listing thoroughly before taking the informed decision of buying or not buying the item. This is just an idea. There are several ways to update the GTL interface and overall system to support a more transparent free market. Sfaff members are probably not really pleased with this; having to check for GTL scam, banning people, etc. Hopefully, banning people because the GTL interface and system are flawed is a "temporary fix"; it would be a shame if staff end up with bigger workload because devs do not put in the work to fix the issue permanently.

    What is GTL Scamming?

Are you actually closing down threads without allowing a rebuttal, @Desu? We have asked for a registry of sales for years, this is very relevant for your supposed model of 'informed consent.' According to this, people can be scammed since they can ignore the actual value of things. The anonymity of the GTL is another issue I've discussed and you brushed down. If you plan on suddenly enforcing policies, it might prevent some backlash if you make a public statement. Communication has never been a forte in this game. I know it's easier to shed the burden of the game on your moderators, but it might be time you put in some extra work.

  32. What Gbwead says makes sense : if you protect people who made wrong buys you should also protect the sellers by delaying an entry to be sold by 30 seconds so they have time to cancel the wrong price before somebody sniped and stole them off their money the same way scammers steal the snipers by listing higher values. That would avoid 1$ shiny which kills the fun for the snipers, YES, but at least it would be fair for both sides ? And doing that also banning the scammers to remove the risk for both parties. I wonder why this was never suggested before Not a huge fan of "floors" but could be a thing, I like that you can give away your stuff for 1 yen if you wanna ?

  38. Yes, I do agree that this type of behavior (setting traps for gtl snipers that aren't careful) should not go unpunished. Yes, there should be some form of penalty for people who abuse the market. However, if these people were perma'd without any prior notice that what they were doing had such heavy penalty, I believe they wouldn't continue doing it, well at least most people would. I believe that there should have been a fair warning or some kind of announcement saying that this type of scamming, this GTL Scamming was in fact discouraged and punished. If there are very hardheaded players who still continue doing it after a public announcement, then those players deserve to be perma'd if that's the case. Although we have consistent violators in the market, these violators didn't know the penalty of their offenses until they personally got perma'd or have seen my previous post. Anyway, I apologize for continuing my discussion from my post in a different thread.

    What is GTL Scamming?

Of course if you look at it this ideally, there's nothing wrong with mods regulating abuse in the market. However, what I noticed is that they banned players for doing something "wrong" in their standards without clearly defining what this "wrong" thing is in the first place. You can't just penalize someone for a crime without that crime being clearly defined in tbe Code of Conduct. Otherwise, they can create any type of violation and penalize players as they please. As the criminal law maxim goes, "Nullum Crimen Sine Lege". There is no crime if there is no law clearly defining this crime.

    What is GTL Scamming?

Dumbest ban reason I've ever heard of. If you are buying 100RP for 2m that's 110% your own fault, how is it different from sniping a mon or an item from GTL because the lister forgot a "0" out there? This is legit the dumbest thing I've ever heard and my guess would be that a staff was the one who fell for the trap and got mad. Enjoy abusing your power lmfao, y'all make yourself looks worse and worse every single time.
