Glad you've been enjoying the game while revisiting Kanto on here! Sorry that you ran into people that were mean, but we welcome you to the community and if you run into any questions feel free to ask!

Hope you've beaten it already, but if not the best advice I can give you is to get a pokemon that knows the move Sweet Scent (Teddiursa/Oddish are cheap ones). Next get a nice hit all move for one of your pokemon (Surf, Earthquake etc) and go to victory road and use it to clear them to level them up more efficiently to the level cap. That will go a long way, as well as you can use that handy exp share to give to another mon while you're exp grinding hordes

1x31 pokemon are not too hard to come by with a little bit of catching, and yes you can breed together pokemon while holding specific power bracers to carry on specific IVs to pass down to the baby. There are ability patches that you can get to unlock a starter pokemon's hidden ability (Besides the Torchic evo line). You can get them by completing a region's pokedex, or buying them from the GTL market. Competitive has a ranking system sorted by: OverUsed, UnderUsed, NeverUsed & Randoms.

If you've run through the game multiple times you'd know you can also get moves you originally can't learn until much later with the move relearner. As for the overall difficulty there is a wide base of people who genuinely like the difficulty curve to this game. If you don't like how this game is setup you can genuinely just not play it if you find yourself struggling so much, or being irritated so much at this game 😛 I love and appreciate this game for what it is. A nice Pokemon MMO.
