PasteloPuffle reacted to Nino94ooo in problem with "full screen" mode
Hello, since the maintenance which was carried out for the 10 years I meet a small problem, I cannot put any more my game in full screen, indeed if I try to do it that closes immediately the window of the game. I specify you also that I am on Mac.

If you have any solutions I am very interested, thank you and good game!

This game is not structured in a way where we can divvy out work into hyperspecific chunks. All of the developers here wear all the hats they can, because that's what the project has needed up until this point. It allows us to run on a very lean team which is very good at producing results.

If we were looking to invest into more software developers for the game, I'd guess it'd take around a year to train someone to fully understand the project like I do. It's pretty big, at over a million lines of code and 40 subprojects atm. And we're kind of picky, in that if we're looking to hire someone to work on the actual product, we don't want a revolving door of useless year 1 CS students touching the codebase with their grubby messy hands.

If we did find someone who's both competent and underemployed, I'm pretty sure it'd cost at least $100 if we want them to show up every day. So yeah, it's pretty expensive.

I'm sure it does. It annoys me too, I'm tired of working on this patch. But throwing more people at the problem doesn't actually solve this particular situation.

When it comes to development, usually goals and their problems can be categorized in one of two ways:
A goal with an objectively correct solution. Like: "Make the skills work like they do in X game." "Make the game run on iOS." "Make an animation which does X" A goal which is open ended. A vague idea, like "Make an event which commemorates our 10th anniversary, somehow." For #1, you can absolutely throw more cooks into your kitchen to get the thing done. It's easy, there's a correct way for things to occur, and if you don't do it that way, you failed to do the thing. We do occasionally contract people for this type of work, especially if it falls out of our areas of expertise.

For #2 though, we have found that more cooks does not make the creative process better. They can do more things at once, provided that their problems can be categorized as #1, but that's not really the issue when it comes to events.

The bottleneck is designing and iterating on whatever mechanics we come up with, and that role is restricted to 1 or 2 (extremely experienced) people out of necessity. Otherwise you get the problem of too many cooks in a kitchen all trying to make the same pot of soup, and nobody is happy with how it tastes.

I've yet to find a way to improve that, so the real lesson is what we came up with 10 years ago, and what I should have done in the first place- "just don't give ETAs lol"

PasteloPuffle reacted to Kyu in PokeMMO Dev Blog 10_000: PokeMMO's 10th Anniversary
2 months ago, a few of our more attentive players noticed that March 29th 2022 would be the 10th anniversary of the forums coming online. As a brief history lesson for everyone, the first public test of the game started a few weeks later in April 2012, then the "alpha" (now known as PokeMMO Epsilon™) was released in June 2012.

While originally we were just planning on a large content update to commemorate the date, maybe throw in some massive tournament or something, we had the brilliant idea to instead make a one-time event outside of what we call "event season"- the period of Halloween/Christmas/Chinese New Year where we normally don't permit large, breaking changes so as to not interrupt the events by leaving you with an unplayable video game. "Get hyped" we said, because it'd be good.

Then, despite our better judgment, we doubled down by not only giving ourselves a deadline to come up with something and get it out, but a public deadline. Several in fact, and we've managed to blow all of them in a fantastic fashion.

Today marks the date of our 4th deadline being missed, and I'm happy to announce that we're commemorating this feat of project logistics by releasing the Torch & Pitchfork Seasonal items.

These items will be available until the next update releases. We expect that to be Soon™ish, probably around Two Weeks™, but we're giving ourselves some leeway so we don't need to make more announcements about announcements.

When we get there, this will also be an unusual update process. We'll be breaking it into a 3 part series:
The major, fragile changes will occur before the event. This will be our launch of the open beta iOS client, general changes like moveset updates, bug fixes, and a large suite of scripting changes to help us support future regions. A few days later, after we're sure that the game's not completely busted, the event will start. Finally, after the event ends, a new permanent feature will launch. We'll keep that one a surprise for now.
    Until then,

    See you Soon™!

Please do not report issues with move animations playing incorrectly at this time (but do report client crashes and other explicit error messages) Unova's NPCs now use custom movesets for all trainers Previously, this only encompassed Gym Leaders / the Elite 4 This does not change the amount of party members or levels for common trainers, but prevents issues like "default NPCs having no damaging moves due to levelup learnsets of some species" Added rematches for most Trainers in Unova Trainers are rematchable every 18 (real) hours Trainers can be rematched at any portion of the storyline, but will become more challenging after Badge 5 Added daily scripting for Morimoto Shiny species now have a 100% chance to have at least 1 30~31 IV This does not apply retroactively The Move Relearner can now teach moves learned at later levels Added Magnetic Field evolution areas to Kanto/Hoenn Added a Watering Can to Unova for Berry Farming This can be found by speaking to an Old Man in Mistralton City near the Berry Patches Watering Cans may be hotkeyed by registering the item in the Bag, then using the item while facing a Berry Patch EXP is now granted when catching wild species Channel population limits are now calculated per-region instead of per-channel This increases the amount of players which are allowed in a channel, and more evenly distributes players across less populated regions The amount of Channels has been reduced from 8 to 5 Added automated crash log uploading Gift shop The following items have been added to the Gift Shop: Sailor Cap / Sailor Uniform Tracksuit Balancing
Breeding Genderless species may now breed with other members of their evolution tree For example, a Magnezone may breed with a Magnemite, Magneton, Magnezone, or a Ditto Genderless species are now marked with a "Genderless" breeding group in the Dex Ditto is an exception and may not breed with other Ditto When breeding, TM / Move Tutor moves are now added to the "hatch moves" relearnability list Previously, the "hatch moves" list in-Summary only encompassed Egg Moves which were passed to a child while breeding This allows these moves to be relearned via the Move Relearner Shedinja may no longer breed Shedinja will now inherit 3 random IVs from the Nincada which it spawns from Shedinja's movepool has been updated to include both Nincada's and Ninjask's moves Shedinja will now inherit hatch moves from Nincada during creation Move Tutor moves now have equal priority to TMs during move passing Removed the wait time to obtain Eggs when breeding Egg Moves / Prevo Moves / Special Moves are now an exclusive classification in the Dex, and are only listed if they're not obtainable in any other manner Crafting PP Up requirements reduced from 30 Berry Powder / 2 White Herb to  9 Berry Powder / 1 White Herb PP Max requirements reduced from 90 Berry Powder / 6 White Herb to 24 Berry Powder / 3 White Herb Moves The default Critical Hit chance has been reduced from 6.25% (1/16) to 4.167% (1/24) General Kanto Game Corner's prices have been updated: GC Coins are now flat pricing ($5/ea) TMs are now 6000 GC Coins Porygon's price has been reduced from 9999 to 4999 GC Coins Kanto/Hoenn now have crafting NPCs staggered throughout their storylines TMs have been reorganized in all regions, to more properly reflect their value vs their introduction in the storyline This means that, the further you get in your storyline, the stronger the TMs you have access to TMs have been consolidated to 4 merchants per region, 3 of which contain "Tier 1/2/3" TMs in various Marts, and the fourth containing Generation-exclusive TMs in their Department Store Most TMs have had their prices adjusted to more properly reflect their current viability:

PasteloPuffle reacted to Goku in Dex completion reward. Give us SOMETHING
As the title suggests I think it'll be reasonable to receive some kind of reward after the completion of the OT Dex.
With the Ot cap currently at 556 it's pretty hard completing it considering 3 regions, safari rares, all the locations you need to visit for the different pokes.
If I am not mistaken I am pretty sure in the other Pokemon games after Dex Completion the player got rewarded a Shiny Charm / Shining Charm.

    Effect
    Generation V
The Shiny Charm increases the chance of encountering a Shiny pokemon, both in the wild and through breeding. This is done by generating two extra personality values to attempt to find one that is Shiny, effectively resulting in a tripled chance to find Shiny Pokémon compared to the base chance; from 1 / 30 000 to approximately 3 / 30 000 (roughly 1/ 10 000).  (Doesn't have to stack with hordes because that can be problematic lel)
The odds of this being implemented is likely to be none. This is why I suggest an alternative prize. Ideas which I had include:
. Player being awarded a random gift legendary. (A way to actually own a legendary permanently for once in the game)
.Player being awarded a random gift shiny egg.
.Player being rewarded a Untradeable custom vanity.
.Player being rewarded a custom tag revealing him to have completed the Ot Dex. / Player being able to change the color of his Overworld Name.
Player being rewarded an Untradeable lucky egg with double exp stats lel.

    Ups for the idea:
Game play can possibly become more active because players would be motivated to complete dex in order to get this prestigious gift.

So when are we going to punish players and teams for match fixing in automated tournaments? Today in the UU tournament, @Frag was able to advance in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Rounds by his teammates @yosoyarca, @LKrenz, and @Zhikodark in that order. Two of the matches didn't even start, as Frags' opponents simply did not register to duel. In the other, Lkrenz registered but let the timer run out before making a single play. Frags went on to win the tournament, receiving the prize despite having played half the matches that anyone else did.

This is just embarrassing from a competitive viewpoint.

Introduction: The Eighth Season of the PokeMMO Super League!

Welcome back everyone to another season of the ever so exciting PokeMMO Super League, brought to you by everyone's favorite animal, BurntZebra. After JJ stepped down from his position of power, someone else needed to step in to keep the PSL tradition alive. I hope this season of PSL goes beyond everyone's expectations and it is still as drama-filled and competitive as before.

I'm sure most of you are aware of what PSL is and what it's all about, but just in case someone is new or has been living under a rock for a few years, I'll give a quick breakdown of the event. PSL is a competitive event that takes place over the period of roughly three months, where teams are formed by chosen managers, and those teams all fight it out against each other, to find out which team is the best, and which team gets to take home the prize. Teams will fight it out each week in an 8 vs. 8 format, which will contain tiers from PokeMMO and Showdown.

Managers will be chosen by yours truly, with the aid of some trusted individuals. They will be in charge of creating teams. People will be able to apply for manager positions on the separate manager application thread, which will be posted shortly after this. I have decided no managers get a free spot from last season, but past PSL success will make your manager resume much stronger. There will be eight teams, and thus eight managers will be chosen this season.

Players will get purchased by a manager, and then will be tasked with playing one match per week in a specific tier, against players from the other teams. Players are the heart of the event, as there would be no event without the players. For this season, there will only be 8 tiers in a standard lineup, so team sizes will vary from about 8-11 players, including substitute players.

Once the managers are chosen, the player sign up thread will be posted, where players will post their name, timezone, the tiers they play, and whatever other fluff they would like to say, in order to coerce managers into buying them. As the number of players will be reduced from last season due to the 8 tier lineup, the competition for getting chosen as a player will be increased. This means prospective competitive players need to put more effort into showing their skill, effort, compassion, and desire to play.

After the seven weeks of teams playing each other, six teams will proceed into the playoffs. The top two seeds will receive a bye for the first round, while the bottom four will duel it out. This will proceed until there are only two teams left, then they will play, and then we will have the new champions of PSL for season 8.

    The Tentative Schedule*:

Now -> May 29th - Manager Sign ups and selection
    May 29th -> June 11th - Player Sign ups and auction/draft
    June 18th/19th - Week 1 Starts
July 16th - Midseason stuff going on
    August 13th - Playoffs begin
August 27th - Final Championship Matches

    *subject to change

Tiers for this season of PSL:
    OU1
    OU2
    UU1
    UU2
    NU
    Doubles (BO3 format, happy doctorpleb?)
    DPP OU
    SM OU

    Rule Changes:
I'm sure all of you will read the entire set of rules posted later on in this thread, but for those who are familiar with the rules of PSL, here are some of the changes from last season.

There will be 8 tiers instead of 10 tiers per team, as seen above for the tier selection. Players in OU1/OU2 will no longer be based off which player has more wins. A 5-0 player could play in OU2, while the 0-3 player still plays in OU1. The same will apply if UU2 becomes one of the tiers this season. Credits will no longer have a use after the initial auction. No credits will be awarded for ties or losses. The Midseason Draft will now be a draft, instead of an auction, thus no credits are used. The last place team gets the first pick, etc. Trades will no longer have any specific restrictions, but will still be overseen by myself. Drafted players may now be traded, as long as they are not also the captain of the team. Free agency has been removed. Players may only be obtained from the initial auction/draft, trades, and the midseason draft.
    Donations:

I will still be accepting donations so that there can be more prizes to give out, and to have a bigger grand prize for the winning team. Donations can still be sent to "BurntZebrah" using the in-game mail system.

But real talk, @gbwead should take a moment to thank @EricTheGreat who could have easily abused the rules in his favor and take the week win to move on. Eric stood up in the face of activity wins and let his bench player play a match that ultimately decided his fate for PSL7. Eric was exemplary throughout the season and continued to do so even with Gbwead being "not the most pleasant" fellow to compete against. Eric really stuck true to the old saying "PSL is about competition" and unfortunately he was slapped in the face because of it. Regardless, here we are and here we stand. May the PSL live on.

    What is this?

Well, it's the freaking awards for the PokeMMO Super League Season 7 regular season, as voted on by the managers and team captains!

    Why?

Because everyone needs a little ego boost for being great.

    Who made these beautiful creations?

Our Lord @Draekyn ofc. I'll be sending him a cool 2M soon for all his work this season.

    Manager of the Season -
@EricTheGreat Prize: 1M The team captains gathered and voted EricTheGreat the best manager for his dedication and for completely destroying his team, but still somehow coming out in the top four this season. "He made some risky buys, but they paid off" as one captain said. Another said "at first I thought his team was complete trash, but he seems to be doing alright. He gets his team going." He also happens to be a "nice guy" per our final voter.  Honorable Mention: KaynineXL
    Best Overall Player -
@camilo7 (enchanteur) Prize: 1M With an undefeated record in our most popular tier, enchanteur was leaps and bounds he best overall player this season considering no one else could claim the throne of no losses.  Honorable Mention: Burntzebra
Breakout Player of the Season -
@Zigh Prize: 1M Zigh posted one of the most impressive records for a new comer going undefeated in doubles (3-0) and splitting VGC (2-2) against some very quality competition. This was a close one, but Zigh earned it week in and week out with his impressive play and lack of fear going against the best of the best in two of our most competitive tiers.  Honorable Mention: Aerun
    Best OU Player -
@camilo7 (enchanteur) Prize: 500k Undefeated. Do I need to say more? Honorable Mention: Aerun
    Best UU Player -
@Guerinf Prize: 500k Posting a 6-1 record with only one loss to NikhilR, Guerinf swept through UU and even topped his best competition in Osuki. It was a great season for both players, but Guerinf got the nod by the managers. Honorable Mention: Osuki
    Best NU Player -  +
@SejuaniSupport + @dsteel23 (miguelez) Prize: 500k How could you choose between two players that both posted a 6-1 record for the same team and even split NU1 throughout the season? You really can't, well unless you're Gbwead. Congratulations to both of these players who were straight savages for VALE. Honorable Mention: Burntzebra
    Best Doubles Player -
@LKrenz Prize: 500k Absolutely dominant in what I felt was the toughest tier of the season and posting a record of 6-1 (12-4), Lkrenz shadowed every other player this season excluding DoctorPBC who played what was probably the best game of the season and toppled Lkrenz 2-1 over a grueling hour and a half of play. Lkrenz only other match losses came to Frags and DoubleJ, otherwise he 2-0'd everyone else (Art 3x, RIP).  Honorable Mention: DoctorPBC
    Best DPP Player -
@XPLOZ Prize: 500k This was a very difficult vote for the managers, but XPLOZ play throughout the season propelled him to number one. Having suffered only two losses, XPLOZ carried the Kecs in DPP. Honorable Mention: Foggi
    Best VGC Player -
@OldKeith Prize: 500k + Shiny SU/MO Gyarados (via OldKeith kek) After suffering his week one loss to imabetheverybest, OldKeith went undefeated for the remainder of the season and never saw a third match once. He was absolutely dominant late season that the managers looked past his loss to imabe who happened to also be 6-1. It was a sight to see, but OldKeith earned this one.  Honorable Mention: imabetheverybest1

My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your post gave me cancer anyway.
