  1. The point should be making a better tier, so I would rather have the focus be making a tier where underpowered Pokemon are viable. If a Pokemon is used too much in UU, it affects the viability of other Pokemon. If a Pokemon is used too much in OU, it doesn't affect the viability of UU Pokemon. I'm not playing anyway though, so feel free to trash UU if it makes you feel like you're a Smogon tier leader.
  2. If a Pokemon has 10% usage in OU and 11% in UU, why can't it be a UU poke? That's a dumb way of looking at usage-based tiering, and it's why the current system would make a bad UU tier. It makes sense to ban a Pokemon from UU if it's usage in UU is too high, but there's absolutely no reason to ban a Pokemon from UU just because it has passable usage in OU. There's a pretty strong correlation between pokes with decent OU usage and pokes with too-high UU usage, but it's not a guarantee. For example, the former UU physical walls. Also, UU is always going to be a better tier than OU, just because it's easier to ban something from UU if it's overpowered. Just like how Smogon OU is a better tier than Ubers.
  3. Pfft, it's not brain surgery. Also shit I haven't touched this game in a long time. Been too busy wrecking the TCG.
  4. either way he lost winter a clapton of money update on my match, still about to start any minute edit: http://play.pokemonshowdown.com/battle-gen3oubeta-174034259
  5. My match with xDGTx should be starting any minute, I'll edit in the link when it does. I'm in a tent on a laptop with my phone tethered for internet, but I'm getting it done.
  6. jesus christ, do you not understand the concept of consistency? It refers to a set of rules that when followed will produce the same result every time. God damn, I can't believe I actually had to explain that. When you go by "well if the bets were kinda high and this match seemed more exciting, and maybe the game was kinda close?" you have a very inconsistent rule, because depending on who's judging it and their mood at that particular time, you can end up with different results. A consistent rule would be one where it's clear who the winner is and doesn't require a discussion or a judge to decide who actually won. edit: thinknice ftw
  7. Aww, lil buddy, I don't think you quite understand how quotation marks work. I did create the Underdog award, and laid out the tiebreaking procedure in case two people had the same differential. So the quotation marks there don't quite make sense, but it was a good effort. In the absence of a rule change, it's generally assumed that the old rules hold true. It's also poor form to change the rules midseason, since it can lead to favoritism. But again, not my award not my problem. He could even say "actually, only multiples of 7000 count" but that would be about as dumb as deciding a tiebreaker on subjective criteria. I get how badly you want that shiny rat, but you're being daft.
  8. If several people were willing to bet tons of money for the underdog to win, it's honestly not as much of an upset. Last year nobody would bet anything for cody to beat amanu, and there were people offering massive bets for amanu to beat cody. To me, that makes it more of an upset. But that's a dumb way to break a tie anyway, since it's not remotely consistent.
  9. Yfw the player who created the underdog award last season and made the rules for it is saying it. Last season for tiebreakers it was "whoever played their match first." That being said, Yangsam donated the ratata this season, so it's up to him. Or ThinkNice, who knows. Makes more sense to stick with the existing rule though.
  10. Nope, makarovmaster's win over BurntZebra in week 2 was also a 23k difference, and since it happened first it maintains the lead. Assuming we're following last season's rules at least. I'm not giving away the underdog prize this time so I don't really make the rules.
