Before writing this guide, I searched and never came across your guide, which is very good! You did a great job, and the method you propose as the standard variant ends up being more efficient and, in my opinion, more flexible. I ran a couple of tests, and while the final difference isn't huge (it ends up being approximately +4 Dittos caught), it does end up being noticeable over long sessions. As you said, it's good that we propose different strategies in case they nerf any of them, but I'll still add an update to this guide (since my goal was to propose the most efficient way) and I'll quote yours as well. Thanks for your feedback! Wouldn't it take longer to use Assist and have its animation appear in every battle? Because if you use the False Swipe and Assist build (to use Spore with your Benched Pokémon), you still have to use an Assist in every battle. Therefore, it will always be less time-consuming than risking that 25%. At least for this strategy, it wouldn't be viable to bring more Smeargles because we run the risk of copying the Spore move when using Assist. Leppa Berries work well for long sessions. If the battle drags on and our Ditto is still alive for one or more extra turns, we just have to wait, since Roar won't end the battle, and even if it switches us out for another Ditto, we'd have to repeat the same procedure, since with 1 HP and asleep, it's very difficult for it to last many turns. In any case, Loudred fails when using Roar. I hope I understood your questions correctly and clarified them :D

I've tried several times from my Linux computer (Ubuntu), but I get an error saying I don't have the proper permissions (even though I do), and it downloads all the other files except the Johto one. Very good observation regarding PPs, although the alternative of using False Swipe as the move for the first Smeargle is slightly more time-consuming. Here's a detail considering the last test case with 54 Ditto spawns and assuming our first Smeargle has the move False Swipe: Probability of transformed Ditto using False Swipe: 1/4 = 0.25 → 25% (assuming the AI doesn't prioritize damage moves over others) Mean = μ=n×p=54×0.25=13.5 → 13 or 14 times Standard deviation (for binomial distribution) = σ = √54×0.25×0.75 = √10.125 ≈ 3.18 Probable range (with a 95% confidence interval) = μ±2σ=13.5±6.36 → [7.14, 19.86] → Between 7 and 20 times Minimum probability = μ−3σ≈4.0 → 4-5 times Maximum probability = μ+3σ≈22.5 → 22-23 times In conclusion, the minimum probability of him using False Swipe within the 54 encounters would be 4 or 5 times, although the most probable range is between 7 and 20 times, and the maximum probability is about 22 or 23 times. Although False Swipe on the first Smeargle would give you more PP, you'd still have to use at least two Leppa Berries. Hi! Great guide! I have a theory that I haven't been able to fully verify. I read in the comments that the strategy doesn't work for some, while others do despite following the steps mentioned here. I think it may be due to the Pokémon's OTs. Personally, I use another technique (Poliwrath + Dragonite + Chandelure) that works well for me 99% of the time, while Ho-Oh changes attacks about 1%. These Pokémon have my OT, and when I've tried the technique with the same Pokémon, same Natures, same EVs, with almost identical IVs, but with a OT that isn't mine, Ho-Oh always uses different moves and ends up winning. I haven't been able to corroborate this theory, but it may be the reason why Ho-Oh changes its moves and ends up defeating us on some occasions, regardless of the strategy we follow.

It's true that if your first Smeargle Ditto has False Swipe, it will never KO you. However, by using Assist, the Ditto will fail every time it attempts the move. This skips the move animation entirely, resulting in faster farming and therefore more Dittos captured in less time. In the coming days I will update the guide and add the key advantages over other methods.
