Hi there! I'm Pastalava. Just a random low-budget shiny alpha hunter.

Yes. Instead of spending tons of money on breeding resources, I decided to go the alternative way: I created multiple accounts to catch Alpha Pokémon. After catching them, I transfer the Alphas to my main account for breeding – and if the offspring isn’t shiny, I sell it. \(^^)/

I started this journey on March 20th, 2024, with just 2 characters. Eventually, I thought, “Why not make more characters to catch as many Alphas as possible during their limited spawn times?” So I began to make other alt characters and multi-tasking them using both my laptop and phone. Right now, I have 12 characters that have completed all 5 regions, plus 21 more that have cleared Hoenn.

As of April 1st, 2025, I began documenting all the Pokémon I catch and breed in a simple log. Based on my rough estimation plus my documentation, as of April 7th, 2025, I've caught approximately 3500+ wild alpha and 1590 alphas through breeding. Guess what? Today turned out to be my lucky day!
 
 
On my way home from work, I was on the train when I saw a notification on the community Discord: an Alpha Venomoth had spawned in Johto. At first, I wasn’t planning to go for it, I was exhausted. But I figured that just one catch won't hurt. Little did I know, it wasn't even from an egg hunt, its a wild encounter, and its on my main character, Pastalava, and BOOM! a shiny Alpha Venomoth! I was so shocked and accidentally dropped my phone. My hands were shaking, but I stayed calm and managed to catch it with Timer Ball.


 
Maybe this marks the end of my shiny Alpha hunting journey… or maybe not. Honestly, I’m still hooked. It’s tough, but it’s also incredibly satisfying. You know,, some Alphas definitely need specific strategies to catch. Like Sunflora on Unova Route 6, you’ll need a Sap Sipper Azumarill holding an Air Balloon to counter its moves. Or Venomoth on Kanto Route 10 with its annoying Bug Buzz, best handled with a Soundproof Mr. Mime. Of course Kingdra with Outrage, gotta use Skill Swap with Own Tempo to avoid it fainting from confusion.

Here’s hoping my first shiny Alpha brings good luck for the hunts ahead!

Congrats!! I remember when you started the journey and i had faith you would follow it to it's completion, amazing and unique achievement!

52nd Shiny Unown, 28/28 aka the last one, is here, making this a full Shiny Unown alphabet (including "!" and "?")

I started this quest initially on the 21st of january of 2023, had around 5956 hours back then, and now i just ended with 13695, took a total of 52 phases and 1.159.235 Unown encounters. Gotta mention that for the hours, not all of it was spent shunting Unowns, but give it or take, this took 6.8-7.2k hours. Money spent? I'm not really sure (and that'll probably stay as the biggest mystery on all of this quest), but between lures and Donators, i'd say over 250m easily.
 
This thing initially started as me going for only a few Unowns, but then i decided to go for 5, and after that, 10, by that point i started to believe in the possibility that maybe it could be possible, i wasn't feeling bothered and felt i was doing good enough with the phases, at that moment i truly set the alphabet as the objective, that wasn't an idea anymore, I had to deliver on this promise too.
But not all of it was hope and optimism, at points during this quest i was seriously questioning if all of this was worth, "i could spent this time hunting better shinies", "i could get rares instead of this" were some of the things that were crossing my mind. But i wanted to push myself and see how much i could go, made it so far by that point, so i felt i couldn't give up, i was conflicted, but i wanted to continue, i kept thinking to myself "all of this is going to be worth by the end", and now i can say it truly was.
 
Thank you all so much for the support, both ingame, forum and Discord; thank you @TeamMr for being there at all moments and being my constant energy to continue; thank you @Juaske for being my main inspiration to start this, you're a beast for not giving up on that Riolu, and, again thank you all the community for the messages, the support and for being there, watching me phase during these last few Unowns on this thread or following the whole thing on my Shiny diary. This might be the end of an era for me, but definitely isn't the end of my shiny hunting journey, still plenty of targets for me to get and things to do in this game. Here to wish you all a successful shunt and fulfillment for all your objectives here, i appreciate you all.

2034 Encounters (13.695 hours). Everything has to come to an end eventually, right? After 2 years, 2 months and 21 days, 52 phases with a total of 1.159.244 Unown encounters and between 6.8k-7.2k hours on this quest alone, the alphabet is done. Thank you all so much for all the support you have been giving me all this time and following how this thread has been progressing, from the start, until this final update, i really appreciate all of you for being here ❤️

20403 Encounters (13.682 hours). After 15 total phases (7 P's, 5 R's and 2 J's) i'm out of Dilford Chamber with both targets, only one left is C in Liptoo Chamber (50%), we might be reaching the final few phases

21756 Encounters (13.564 hours). April Fool's came late for me in the form of another R, still a long road to go it seems. 24th duplicate

Another big one! First safari catch and first secret shiny, this was secret phase 18 and it took 3 balls to catch it. Really happy to finally have a secret, felt like I would never see one.

Been doing alphas eggs pretty slowly for around 8 months, only 7.5k total alphas and 14.5k total eggs since my mudkip. Still can't believe that I managed to get one! Easily one of my biggest accomplishments on the game.

Team [Mr]'s Shiny War 8.0: A Historical Boss Battle! Awk vs. Flare! is officially over!


Thank you everyone who participated. The Founder of [Mr], @FlareBlitzz faced off all week vs. Me, the current team Boss. In the end, tradition overcame modernity, and FlareBlitzz took the win at the end of the week. We saw tons of epic shinys, some shiny tragedies, and a LOT of back and forth during this war, and in the end, Flare snatched the victory from Team Awk by getting a last second SECRET shiny Skarmory. It's safe to say that this war will go down in history as one of the most EPIC [Mr] wars ever. This war was a really exciting way to celebrate the team's 10 year anniversary, and we couldn't have asked for a more interesting and intense war. Great job to everyone who participated, and thank you to @GingerMatt and @Qiyist for being amazing team captains!

For those of you who dont know, I'm a moderator for the Pokemmo Duders discord (commonly known as patrouski discord. This discord (https://discord.gg/patrouski) has 25,000 members along with 7,500 weekly visitors making it the biggest Pokemmo community run discord and the second largest Pokemmo discord after the official one. Along with moderator functions i also have access to statistics relevant to the discord. Over the last couple of events ive been tracking which channels drive the most conversation to guage community popularity for aspects of the event. since Lunar new year 2023.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Other event specific channels:
For the Lunar new year 2023 these were the stats for messages during the event for the top 3 channels. ⁠                                                                                  
Top 3 channels (messages sent): Over 110,000 unique messages
1. General (48,389)

As you can see, the return of raids generated significantly more discussion than every other feature the event had by a significant margin, over doubling the interest in swarm chat and significantly outshining the abundant shrine gameplay.

Halloween showed that this success was not just a one of and pushed raids to the number 1 talked about topic of the event, with team searching become our most used channel. With Over 145,000 unique messages, raids dominated over 30% of the entire discords conversation during the event.

This christmas event has showed that raids are clearly the number 1 priority for players and is testament to the popularity of the feature. This event raids took up over 50% of all messages sent in the discord, clearing any other topic by a significant margin. No other feature in the game has driven as much conversation as raids have over the last year.

Is there a reason why these cosmetic slots are not utilized when there are options for them in the advanced search? I just feel like the new wish tag earrings are a cool and unique vanity that will not be used nearly as much as it should because it forces us to be hatless for some earrings in an extremely saturated cosmetic slot. Making them a forehead/face/eyes cosmetic would make a world of a difference in the variety of outfits we could make with accessory vanities like these and just seems like a missed opportunity for a lot of vanities such as the ninja mask.
