3. So me and a few others were talking in Global chat and we came up with an idea called PVPCoins. Since there is no real currency in PokeMMO we could have PVPCoins, there are three possible ways to get these coins, and multiple ways to use them: We could have the matchmaking system on the Second Floor of the Pokemon Center matchmake players and the winning player would recieve coins in 100x the amount of pokemon started (max=600coins) for instance 3v3 would give 300 coins and 6v6 would give 600. We have a brand new PokeMMO island called Colosium Island and make that into an arena where people watch the best of the best play and they also place bets of up to 50 coins. We could also make it to where players would recieve these in only official tournament hosted events, and they recieve these via staff member. There are many ways to use this new currency and here are some of the top ones we came up with: We have a market in say Celadon, maybe on the floor with all the computers in which you can exchange these coins for rare items (IE: Lucky Eggs, Metal Coats, Dragon Scales & more) We use this new currency to buy clothes and such for our characters. and finally this new currency since it can be used to buy Lucky Eggs and other rare items, can be trade between players as a mean to sell or buy pokemon! Tell me what you think, all feedback is welcomed. Kinks that need fixing: None Things to add: None (ATM) If this has been suggested before I ask that a staff member send me a link and lock this thread, thank you.
  4. I find battling to be fun, but I don't like grinding against bad AI trainers. I would enjoy the game a lot more if, instead of having to grind through the game, I could battle real players the whole way through. I would like it so that there is an option to gain EXP and money from PvP challenges. (We make it optional so that in lvl50 battles, pokemon wont level up to 51.) Now, there are a handful of solvable problems that might come up. 1. Players might exploit this to gain levels too quickly. For instance, a guy sits in viridian city with 6 lvl100 shedinja's that you ohko so your pokemon jump to level 50. We can resolve this issue by adding a maximum EXP cap that a pokemon can gain from a battle AND by restricting the amount of times you can battle someone (for EXP/Money) to 3 times a day. 2. Players might exploit this to gain money too quickly. This could be solved by either limiting the amount of players they can battle for money, by adding an "entrance fee" for beginning a battle, or by losing money for whiting out (and that money being handed over to the victor). Just because you think there might be an issue with allowing EXP/Money to be in PvP doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game. We can figure out what issues might occur and fix them before they happen. I think with EXP/Money from PvP, it would make the initial playthrough of the game much more enjoyable and unique to the singleplayer games.
  5. Plizard

    High stakes PVP!

With the vs seeker coming soon™ players might have more money then they can handle! Which is why i suggest some PVP staking! It could work in a number of ways, with optional rules to change how the battle flows, rules like: 1. No status moves 2. No switching pokemon 3. No items 4. Moves do double damage 5. No stage modifiers (hail, rain dance, sunny day, sandstorm) 6. Level limitations use your imagination Stakes could also include other things besides money, things like items, and pokemon. But with high stakes gambling there should be some rules and requirements to keep balance so new players don't lose everything. 1. Players with less than 2 badges should not be able to stake. 2. Players should be warned to the opponents high level pokemon (this already exists in regular battles). 3. Players should only be able to stake with a player that has an equivalent number of badges, this should also keep balance between players with 2 badges fighting a player with 8. 4. Players should not be able to stake all of their money and pokemon, it should stop at a reasonable number (for example you cannot stake money if you have less than 5k, and if you have 20k, you can only stake 15 of it)

He is respected above all reproach. This is someone you aspire to learn from because they have mastered the art of battle. Only one can lay claim to the title of PvP Champion. The Champion will lead the guild into countless tournaments expecting nothing less than victory. However, the Champion cannot rest on his laurels because he can be challenged to a best 2 out of 3 battle for his position just like the officers can. All the guidelines for the Officer challenges apply here (you can see them in the officer section). Except for this: Only officers can challenge the PvP Champion for their position. Guild Members must first attain the rank of Officer before they can aspire to be the PvP Champion. 1.______________ Officers: This is a battling team, not a sentimental one... Its officers will be the guild's strongest members, not its most liked or those who get in good with the leader. Officers will also manage and execute team events. They will be the Warriors Guild's loudest voice in tournaments we enter and when the Warriors guild enters team tournaments with limited spaces, the officers have first rights to those spots. To make sure that the Warriors Guild's Officers are always its strongest members, a system has been put in place that allows members to challenge any officer to a best 2 out of 3 battle to take their position. Details below. 1. The team member must have been a member of The Warriors Guild for at least a week 2. The battle will have a lvl cap of 50 unless something else is agreed upon by BOTH parties. 3. The officer can choose whether he wants to battle 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, or 6v6 4. A officer must accept any challenge by a team member no matter what the officer is doing unless it is a tournament, however an officer can only be challenged by a particular member up to once per day. 5. Also, a office only has to accept up to 5 challenges per day. For example, if one member challenges the officer on a day for the first time he must accept. If that same member challenges again that same day the officer does not have to accept. However, if a different member challenges that same day the officer must accept. But the officer must accept only up to 5 guild member challenges per day. 6. Another member of the team must be present to make the series official. 7. Both the officer and the challenger are not allowed to substitute pokemon between battles. 8. Standard clauses apply to all battles: Sleep, Evasion, OHKO, Pristine, Species, Bag item, and broken move clauses are all in affect. 9. Now, of course, all members of the Warriors Guild should have a willing attitude of helping its member progress. However, if you are looking for some help with your team, find a Battle Adviser should be your first choice for help. 1. As such they will be the main force behind the Warriors Guild. It is important that all guild members have a passion for battle and enter tournaments baring their tag proudly. Members should be striving to make themselves stronger battlers on a consistent basis. Trying to demote an officer and become one yourself is extremely encouraged. Competition is how we make ourselves, as a whole, stronger. Rammasuar XxCharizardxX GaryfvckingOak Adamfikr Badboots TrippH Remember, Yes, this is a pvp focused team and we will be battling each other. But this is a community, too. We only fight each other to make ourselves stronger. Save the trash talk for members of other teams, not amongst ourselves. You must have thick skin to be in this team. Know matter how good you are there is always someone better. When you lose, and you will lose sometimes, you should not get unduly upset, No, you should use it as motivation to become stronger. You should talk with your teammate and discuss the reason you lost, and how you can strengthen your team. This principle is especially true for Officers who may lose their position. Use it as fuel to your fire, you can always challenge whoever defeated you for you spot back another time. PvP Library: The Help Center If your going to be successful in player versus player competitive battling there are a few things you must know about and use. Before you even get into strategies and what pokemon to use you must know about natures & iv's & evs. I cannot stress enough that you will HAVE NO CHANCE in battles if you do not learn about and use these factors to your advantage. Fear not, though, for they are not difficult concepts to grasp and here I have provided you some help to get you started. Here are some links that give a basic understanding of the concepts you will need (Natures/IVs/EVs). NATURES:
Every pokemon has one of 25 natures when you catch it that you can see from its summary screen. This link gives a brief discussion and a list of the possible natures. http://www.serebii.net/games/natures.shtml So when catching a pokemon for pvp you want to find a pokemon with a nature that raises an important stat and lowers a stat that is not important to your pokemon. For example, adamant nature would be good for Machamp because it raises attack and lowers special attack which Machamp does not need. Or, for example, a timid nature would be good for starmie because it raises speed (starmie is used as a sweeper and needs to be as fast as possible) and lowers attack, which starmie does not need. You need to use the right natures to your advantage.
IV's:
IV's or "individual values" are numbers pre-assigned to each one of a pokemon's stats that determine how high (or low) those stats will be. IV's are like the genes in animals that determine height and weight. Pokemon have an IV value in every stat (hp, attack, defense, special attack, special defence, and speed) that is set when you catch a pokemon and cannot be changed. IV values range from 0-31. A pokemon with 31 IV's in a stat means that stat will grow as high as it possibly can while a pokemon with 0 IV's means it will be as low as it possibly can. In competitive battling you want your pokemon's most important stats to have 30-31 IV's. For example, Machamp's two most important stats are probably attack and defense. So ideally you would want 31 or 30 IV's in attack and defense. However you still want good IV's in the other stats as well. An IV value is usually not considered decent until it gets into the 20's. Remember, you cannot do anything to influence or change the IV's your pokemon gets, all you can do is check its IV's to see if they are good or not. It may be troublesome to find a pokemon with good natures AND IV's but it is necessary. Also, IV's are like the pretty girl's underskirt. They are not openly shown from a pokemon's summary sheet, they are hidden in the games mechanics. So the only way to see a pokemon's IVs are to use a online IV calculator. I have provided one in the link below, just input the pokemon, its stats, nature, and any evs it may have and the calculator will give you its possible range of IV's for each stat. The higher the pokemon level the more accurate it will be. http://www.serebii.net/games/iv-calcdp.shtml
EV's:
EV's stand for effort values. Every time you catch a pokemon it starts out with 0 effort values. Like IV's each Stat (attk, def, spd, etc) can have its own different amount of EV's. The more EV's your pokemons stats have the higher it will be. However, unlike IVs, what EV's your pokemon has is completely dependent on you. Every pokemon you battle in the wild or against npc trainers gives your pokemon evs in one stat. The pokemon you battle is what determines what Stat you get EV's for. Whatever the pokemon's highest stat is that you are battling is what stat your pokemon will get EV's for. Also, you get one ev in a stat for an unevolved pokemon and 2 for a second stage evolved pokemon and 3 for a third stage evolved pokemon. For example, a machop's highest stat is attack so if your pokemon battled it in the wild it would get 1 EV for its attack stat. If it battled a machoke it would get 2 EVs in the attack stat. If it battled a pidgeotto it would get 2 EV's in the speed stat. Every 4 EV's your pokemon gets in a stat adds another point to your pokemon's actual stat number when it levels up. The max EVs you can get in any one particular stat is 255 (or in pokemmo 252) but the most EVs you can get total (all stats combined) is 510. This means you can max out two stats. You can get 252 EVs in two stats and 6 in another. This is almost always your best option, to max out two stats rather than spread out your EVs all over the place. So if you want to max out the speed stat, for example, then you would find an area where pokemon that give speed EVs appear most of the time and battle them over and over and over again. For example, at the beginning of the game at route one only pidgey and rattata appear. Both those pokemon give 1 speed EV so if one wanted to get 252 speed EV then one could go there and battle those pokes until they get 252 EVs. Fortunately you can keep track of your pokemons EVs in your pokemon's summary page where it keeps a record of them for you. Also, there are a couple of items you will want to know about for EV training. Use the itemfinder exactly where the 8th gymleader stood to get the Macho brace which doubles the EVs your pokemon gets from battling. So instead of getting 1 attack EV from a machop you will get 2 if your pokemon is holding the Macho brace. Also in the Saffron pokemart you can buy berries that will reduce your pokemons EVs in a particular stat if you accidently fight some pokes that give you EVs you didnt want. Press the H button in game and scroll down to see which berry reduces which EV stat. Remember though, do not waste your time EVing a pokemon that does not first have the right nature and good IVs. Here's a link that just goes over some of the information I have related to you. http://www.psypokes.com/lab/evguide.php
Remember, a Pokemon needs to have a good nature AND IVs AND EVs to be considered competitive. It can be a hassle to find pokemon with the right nature and IV's and to then EV train them. But it is worth it in the end. And I cant stress this enough. YOU CANNOT BE A SUCCESSFUL PVP BATTLER IF YOU DO NOT USE NATURES/IV/EVS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Hopefully this has helped you to grow as a member of The Warriors Guild. Breaking any of the General rules of PokeMMO, this ones a given 2. Showing a pattern of disrespect to the team leadership 3. Being inactive for long periods of time. 4. Showing a pattern of not being able to handle losing. 5. Being recognized as a scammer. Yes i know scamming is technically allowed in this game. But it doesn't mean I have to harbor scammers here. 6. 7. Competitive Battling is starting to become big here on PokeMMO, but, we still do not have an official ranking system. I'm here to suggest a complete ranking system which will be used for all players and maybe even in the future, teams. To implement this ranking system, I would need complete compliance with the staff in using this ranking system, as it involves the forums heavily. The good thing is that no work has to be done on the server itself, allowing for the coders to work on more important aspects of the game itself. So, I introduce to you.... "The PokeMMO Trainer's League" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Registration: To begin, all trainers who wish to battle competitively must be registered on the forums. This will allow the tracking of users' wins and losses much more efficiently. All trainers will begin in "F-Class". This is the lowest class in the ranking system seen here: There are two different ways to increase your ranking within the "Basic Classes", these are seen here: Win 3 consecutive battles against trainers of same class Win 1 battle against a higher ranked trainer To organize a ranked battle, trainer must use the following method(s): Posting a Notice on the "Competitive Alley" Sub-forum that you are looking for challengers Replying to another trainers posting Also, trainers who lose 3 consecutive battles will also rank down in class if they're higher than F-Class. All battles must be reported to the "Competitive Alley" sub-forum, for them to count as a victory for the trainer to Rank up. Also Video Recording or taking pictures of your battle is highly recommended so that any disputes or complaints can be argued with evidence. The implementation of video recordings and pictures also allows new trainers to see what battling in the league is like! Player's can only reach "C-class" based on wins alone. To be entered into the advanced classes of B, A, and Special-A, you must have participated in a total of 50 battles while you are currently in C-class. To advance from B>A>Special-A, players will have to use the following methods: Win five (5) consecutive battles against trainers of same class Win ten (10) consecutive battles against trainers of the class immediately below you Defeat a trainer who is ranked higher than you ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "PokeMMO Player's League Championship" There is a reason why trainers aspire to become at least "B-Class". Those who are, and ranked higher, are eligible to enter in the biggest tournament of the year, with Pokemon, and potentially money up for grabs. The tournament would be open to any and all who are "B-Class" and above. There will be rules/guidelines, but those would be detailed at a later time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Having an official ranking system would be beneficial for the game, and the players as a whole. It would allow tournaments to run efficiently and smoothly, while creating a pro-active competitive scene with set-goals in mind. Any questions? Post here.
  8. Alright, I understand that we don't really have a (official) model on which to base players, the tournaments they play in, and the rankings they get for performing in these tournaments. I have thought of a way to produce such a system, to allow fast, streamlined battling, and along with this, a competitive atmosphere for others to enjoy. ==================================================================================================== Possible Tournament Formats: GSL/GOMTV League Format: Details: Code S [All group play is Bo3] Ro32: 8 groups of 4 played in dual tournament mode. 1st+2nd place advance to Code S Ro16. 4th place drops to Code A Ro48 of that same season. 3rd place drops to Code A Ro32. That means that it is possible to drop from Code S out of the GSL completely in the same season. This can happen if you lose in the Code S Ro32 (4th place) and lose in the Code A Ro48 after that. If you finish 3rd in the Code S Ro32 you will drop to the Code A Ro32. If you lose there you will drop to Up&Down matches and have the chance to regain Code S Status for next season or drop to Code A. Ro16: 4 groups of 4 played in dual tournament mode. 1st+2nd place advance to Ro8 and have automatically secured a spot for next season’s Code S. 3rd+4th place drop to Code A Ro24 of that season. If you win in the Code A Ro24 you will secure a spot for next season’s Code S, if you lose you drop to Up&Down and get another shot. Ro8 – Final are played in regular tournament mode. Ro8+Ro4 are Bo5, Final is Bo7. Code A [All matches are Bo3] Ro48: 40 players who qualified for Code A + 8 players who dropped down from Code S Ro32. Regular tournament mode, 24 players advance to Code A Ro32, 24 players are eliminated from Code A and have to requalify next season. Ro32: 24 players from Code A Ro48 + 8 players from Code S Ro32 (3rd place). Winners advance to Ro24, losers drop to Up&Down. Ro24: 16 players from Code A Ro32 + 8 players from Code S Ro16 (3rd+4th place). Winners advance to Code S next Season. Loser drops to Up&Down. Code A finishes with the Ro24, further rounds are not played out. Up&Down Matches A total of 30 players will compete for 10 spots in Code S. These players consist of 16 players who lost in the Code A Ro 32, 12 players who lost in the Code A Ro24 and 2 seeded players. 5 groups of 6 people will be formed. All players in a group play each other. The Top 2 of each group will advance to Code S, the rest will be Code A for next season. For the 2012 series the season now always starts with the Up&Down matches, the first season of 2012 will therefore begin in late December of 2011 with the first batch of Up&Down matches. Dual tournament format [used in Code S Ro32 and Ro16] - The 4 players of each group are split into two pairs and play each other Bo3. - The winners of these matches will then face each other in the ‘Winner’s match’. The victor will be 2:0 and 1st in the group. - The losers of the initial matches face each other in the ‘Loser’s match’. The loser will be 0:2 and 4th in the group. - The loser of the Winner’s match and the winner of the Loser’s match will face each other. The winner will be 2:1 and 2nd, the loser will be 1:2 and 3rd in the group. Example: 4 players A,B,C,D. G1: A vs B G2: C Vs D G3: Winner of G1 vs Winner of G2 (Winner = 1st) G4: Loser of G1 vs Loser of G2 (Loser = 4th) G5: Loser of G3 vs Winner of G4 (Winner = 2nd, Loser = 3rd) With our new system we’ll be able to provide you with a lot more games, more excitement and an even fiercer competition for Code S. The season now also runs for over 2 months and the possible amount of played matches has almost doubled! =========================================================================================== Pros: This format would allow more players the opportunities to play and have a chance at winning the tournament/season. We could live-broadcast each match with commentary to further the competitive aspect and increase the entertainment value. During broadcast, we would record the matches, to allow the matches to be accessed for the future. The length of the tournament allows players to play on their own schedule, this enables more matches to happen smoothly and decreases the chance of no shows. This allows tournament staff/competitors to take breaks in between matches. Doing so allows staff to catch up on matches, and allows players to strategize and prepare their teams in advance. Cons: Too confusing Too long These were the only cons I could think of. But there are arguments against the cons. Too confusing-Yes, at first glance the tournament format does look confusing, but after the first tournament, I feel that people would get a hold on the format and understand it quickly. It benefits staff and players a like. Too long-It's indeed long. Months even. But, increasing the time, also allows broadcasts to increase viewers and popularity between trainers and fans. It also allows competitive battling to be shown to the masses. Mind you, the average does NOT need to fully understand the tournament. Only the competitors and the staff running it. My thinking is this, if you have the smarts to battle competitively and successfully, you should be able to understand the tournament format and concept quickly. You can find more details here: http://www.gomtv.net...40&cid=0&kind=8 ================================================================================================================================ AIR GEAR TOURNAMENT FORMAT (ALSO INCLUDES PvP FORMAT) In the anime Air Gear, teams are divided up by classes. These range from "F Class" to "A Class". F being the lowest, A being the highest. Here is a chart of the classes: All players begin as F-Class and work their way up the rank pyramid. The higher up you are the more challenging the competition, thus the harder it becomes to win. To increase your rank, you can do the following: Win 3 consecutive battles against a player of same class Win 1 battle against a higher ranked player (No matter what their rank is, you move up to the next highest rank) To challenge a player you must post on the forums, you can do this by: Starting a topic asking for matches Call a single player out (In a non-negative fashion) Responding to either of the above mentioned topics. Players who lose 3 consecutive battles races/events will also rank down in class if they're higher than F-Class. All battles must be reported to the forums, for them to count as a victory for the Player to rank up. Due to possible cheating, pictures or video must be submitted with any win/loss reports. NOW THAT WE HAVE THE PvP FORMAT OUT OF THE WAY. HERE IS THE TOURNAMENT FORMAT THAT ACCOMPANIES IT. Using the above mentioned format for PvP, the tournament would be open to any number of players ranked "B-Class" or higher. Tournament would be single-elimination and allow as many players that sign up. Players and Pokemon must be signed up before the start of the tournament or they will not gain entry to the competition. All players would be given the option to substitute one (1) pokemon in between each match. These substitutes must also be given in the application for the tournament. Here is a sample of the bracket: ================================================================================================================================ Those are the ideas for PvP/Tournaments right now, I'll probably have more in the future. Let me know what you think.
  9. I dont know if its possible to do in near future or at all but a duel finder function would change the game so much. I could imagine this being like battlegrounds in Wow you could queue up for a duel also you could queue up for multiple categories like: lvl 50 only , lvl 100 , only , 2vs2 , 1vs1 ..... Once you have found a partner it puts you in a battle. Right now duels are fine but i could imagine that this function would be a huge succsess and would change the game expirience positivley. So what do you say ?
  10. Ideas like arenas and tournaments are a given. But we all know that it could become a "potion" race at one point - whoever has the most potions will last the longest. So here are two ideas to keep things interesting when/if tournaments are created: 1. Set a max level, for instance 100, so no Pokemon can be over that. 2. Introduce a potion/item cap. An example would be something like "You can carry and use a maximum of 30 items during the whole tournament". This way you are sure no one would stock thousands of potions and just heal until the world ends. It also leaves room for strategies and creativity - someone may carry 30 healing potions, others may carry a combination of 15 healing, 10 reviving potions, 5 anti-paralyzing potions. This way the players are left to create their own strategy that is unique and isn't just "let me get 9000 health potions and the other guy will definitely give up at one point". 3. Timer to prevent AFK-ing. 'Nuff said. Loving it so far, guys! Keep up the good work :) Now if I could only get a party of Charmander, Squirtle and Balbasaur... :D EDIT: Added 3. Timer, after reading BigPlayK's post :)
