Popular Post DragoTamer
Introduction The title speaks volumes. Delcatty is arguably the best cute charm in the game at the moment in terms of utility. In this guide, with the assistance of @Lorewaifu, I will be going into detail on the build, how to maximize the moveset, usage aspects, comparison against other cute charm Pokémon, etc. Pokémon: Delcatty Ability: Cute charm Nature: Neutral [Hardy, Docile, Serious, Bashful, Quirky] IVs: Ideally 6x31. For more practical cost-saving purposes, at least 3x31 with Attack, Special Attack, and Speed and as high as you can in the other IVs. EVs: 230 Attack, 200 Special Attack, 80 speed Moves: Assist, Foresight, Pay Day, Thunder Wave **Replace Foresight or Pay Day with Hyper Voice as needed and/or Covet** PREVO moves: Assist, Copycat, Foresight, Wake-Up Slap **PREVO moves are a way to obtain the move via leveling in a PREVO form. If you don't obtain the move in the previous (base) form, you can teach it via the move tutor.** Egg moves: mud bomb, simple beam, tickle, wish **Optional, but I recommend them for versatility** **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** HM moves: Flash, Rock Smash, Strength Other useful moves: Dig [universally a good move], Headbutt [great for Johto], Secret Power [for Hoenn bases] Item: Wide Lens for 99% Thunder Wave accuracy, Choice specs for EV hordes, Choice band for pay day Usage Spoiler Gathering male breeder pokes like whismur. Shunting for female versions of your desired mon to make breeding easier It’s the only cute charm Pokémon that has assist meaning you can use false swipe. A catcher Pokémon basically. With choice specs, it can take out rhydon, tentacruel, rapidash, marill, golduck, and pelipper hordes Delcatty's Cute charm does not work with alphas Why Delcatty over other cute Charm Pokemon Spoiler It can learn assist and when paired with its flexible moveset, is much more versatile than other cute charm Pokémon. No other cute charm learns Assist Has the stats and nature compatibility to serve as a horde battler. Delcatty’s base stats combined with a neutral nature give it just the right amount of flexibility in offensive power and defense power to handle all the common EV hordes, catch the standard breeders, and serve as a useful shunting Pokémon and alpha catcher. I would not recommend delcatty over smeargle or breloom for catching alphas and those guides will be linked at the end The other Pokemon in your party must only know false swipe or moves that can't be assisted. You can find a list of those moves in @Lorewaifu's guide below @Lorewaifugoes into even further detail in her Delcatty which serves as an excellent complement guide. I will link it here and further down in this guide. It provides excellent Pokémon and egg groups to hunt with Delcatty. Moves explanation Spoiler I calculated Hyper Voice to be roughly 74.4% of it’s attacking value to take into account hordes to ensure it takes out all EV hordes with Hyper Voice Wide lens increases thunder wave’s accuracy to 99% Assist can be used to use false swipe from an ally Pokémon to pair with when using Assist Anyone that can learn false swipe essentially. It can be a regular level 1 smeargle that knows it. There are many cheap smeargles on GTL worth about 2K pokeyen You can pair it with an optimal catching smeargle as well, damp parasect, etc. The usefulness of this combo extends to rock smashing around various regions, ditto catching, etc. I will link relevant guides at the end so you can see the paired usefulness As Delcatty is a field egg group pokemon, you can breed it with a smeargle to pass on 4 egg moves at once. This will give you your yen's worth in a breed. If you plan on spending yen, be sure to get your yen's worth. Selecting the PREVO moves Spoiler PREVO MOVE Actual PREVO, TM, or Tutor Assist Actual Captivate TM Charm TM Copycat Actual Covet TUTOR Double-Edge TM Façade TM Faint Attack TM Foresight Actual Fury Swipes Actual Heal bell TUTOR Payback TM Tackle Actual Tail Whip Actual Wake-Up Slap Actual Actual PREVO moves to consider: Assist, Copycat, Foresight, Fury Swipes, Tackle, Tail Whip, Wake-Up Slap Optimal PREVO moves: Assist, Copycat, Foresight, Wake-Up Slap PREVO moves NOT used: Fury Swipes, Tackle, Tail Whip EVs explanation Spoiler 80 speed outspeeds the fastest alpha 200 special attack EVs are needed to ensure that Hyper Voice can take out the main EV hordes with choice specs The remainder of the EVs went into attack to utilize pay day and false swipe IVs explanation A minimum of 31 in attack, special attack, and speed is needed for the accurate EV calculations above Levelling Strategy Spoiler This assumes you follow the above information with at least 31s in Special Attack and Speed You'll need Hyper Voice and Choice Specs At level 80, Delcatty will be able to guaranteed OHKO Rapidash hordes at Route 12. These calcs take into the worst case scenario so there will be some variation in the level for Delcatty to be used to guaranteed to OHKO Rapidash hordes, but level 80 will be the minimum level required to guaranteed OHKO Rapidash Hordes at route 12 All other cute charm Pokémon Spoiler Milotic [HA] HMs: Surf, Dive, Waterfall, Whirlpool [soon to be HM] Other useful moves: Recover, Safeguard, Rain Dance, Hypnosis,, Haze, Double Edge, Imprison, Secret Power [Hoenn Bases] Moveset idea: Imprison, Double Edge, Scald, Hypnosis [with Wide Lens] Lopunny HMs: Cut, Rock Smash, Strength Other useful moves: Entrainment, Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Thunder Wave, Switcheroo, Headbutt [for Johto], Secret Power [Hoenn bases], Dig [universally good move] Clefable HMs: Flash, Rock Smash, Strength Other useful moves: Moonlight, Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Thunder Wave, Trick, Headbutt [for Johto], Secret Power [Hoenn bases], Dig [universally good move] Wigglytuff HMs: Flash, Strength Cincinno HMs: None Notes: I do NOT recommend Cincinno, Wigglytuff, and Clefable. Cincinno learns no HM moves. Clefable can learn all of Wigglytuff's HM moves plus Rock Smash. Delcatty learns all the HMs that Wigglytuff learns and is far more versatile. I HIGHLY recommend Milotic and Lopunny as cute charmers if you don't want to use Delcatty. Just weigh the benefits of Milotic vs. Lopunny for your own use Related guides Spoiler Other PvE Pokémon guides Spoiler Credits Spoiler @Lorewaifuprovided much of the usage, primary moveset, items, and various explanations. I also linked lore's guide for the full view into utilizing Lopunny for catching various egg groups @Viannet for the continue excellent feedback @repposhfor providing info about covet @Eliznfor providing clarification that it works on alphas @Rachefor providing the moveset for Cute Charm Milotic which you can find under the section for all other cute charm pokemon. She also identified, dig, secret power, and headbutt as good move options to list for the pokes that could learn them Edited December 25, 2023 by DragoTamer RenDude, Hjortsson, Furabia and 32 others 23 1 9 2 Link to comment

Every GM that I've asked has said that it does work, but only for the first encounter. After that, the gender, IVs and Nature of the pokémon are set, but before you encounter, they're not. Is this true? I get conflicting information from everyone, so if possible it would be nice if a dev could confirm this, alphas have been out for quite a while now. Link to comment

I had a dev confirm it for me some time ago, but things could have changed then so I'm also interested in knowing if you've been hearing otherwise. I did notice Munya said it didn't work on a different thread as well. If you speak with a dev and hear otherwise, keep me updated. Link to comment
DragoTamer
Update. I added a lot more content to the section for all other cute charm pokemon to help in making the decision of which cute charmer to use. I also added a section for other useful moves and the HM moves that delcatty can learn. This should further help in making the choice. Take note: While Delcatty is the optimal cute charmer due to the myriad of things it can do such as pay daying, horde clearing for the main EV hordes, cute charm, and a decent catcher mon, Milotic and Lopunny are also two very viable options. I personally like Milotic the most due to the increased bulkiness and Rache has also provided a fantastic moveset for it for thinning out a horde when using it for shunting. I also re-confirmed with the devs and cute charm does not work for alphas Edited July 2, 2023 by DragoTamer HEARTEATERS 1 Link to comment
DragoTamer
Adjusted the usage section. included a detail for shunting and split one bullet point into two Link to comment

Depends on what you plan to use it for. The EVs were made to be able to handle the hordes specifically so I would personally recommend following the EV spread Link to comment
dooski
what is your shunting team behind delcatty for a regular pokemon with no annoying moves like double kick. just wanna get a idea of what team i should pick together like a utility or hm pokemon Link to comment

Regarding shunting in general, that really just varies based on the pokemon you're going for. If you mean no annoying moves like teleport, explosion, selfdestruct, memento, etc. I suppose a synch or cute charm poke would be good depending on if you care more about nature or gender. Cather mons, the general HM Buddies, etc. pokes to clear a horde as well including catcher mons Link to comment
