[PTS] Battle Replay/Record System

Recommended Posts

The game can be recorded through a click of a button. e.g. [Record Battle]

Just like in warcraft, there is a setting that players can check/uncheck the box to activate/deactivate auto-recording of battles.

And all the replays recorded will be saved inside the ... /PokeMMO-Client/replays folder.

This can be implemented in either way:

  • All the keypresses and moves/items used will be recorded as a non-video format. Thus disregarding the time spent while the player is afk...

  • The replay will be recorded as a video format... Saving it as a mp4/flv file format etc. And players will be able to upload it easily without the use of screen recording softwares....

EDIT: Also, spectators have the option of recording other players' battles as well.

EDIT1: PROS: Players can watch battles online and are able to think of their own comp strategies in the game.

CONS: Players are able to discover their weakness and might beat them.

The developers are going to hate you for this suggestion if they do decide to program this, since it's gonna be alot of work loll

Well that's their decision, and I'm not forcing anyone to their work... Anyways I posted a suggestion before this one, which should be able to help developers in their work but sad to say that maybe they won't be able to accept approve it....

It's something we've had in mind for a while. Not for the immediate future, though.

Video formats are unnecessarily complicated and bloated for a replay of actions. The best way to do so is to replay actions with timings associated, hosted initially by us and then distributable by players after replay hosting has expired (we couldn't realistically host every match replay that has ever occurred, indefinitely). Most likely, replays would be automatically generated for RMM and togglable for unranked duels.

There's this program for league of legends called LoL replay that basically saves the game data , and you can watch the game again using the client.

So if you could just make a hint of a save file of the battle for the pokemmo client to be able to re-open and view, we could probably wing the video side, like screencapture or something.

Y'know, just some kind of script that follows the battle chat and that the client can animate.

Also, you can ask the player at the end of the match if you want a replay saved, just like in smash bros brawl. So you temp save it by default, and if he says "no", you delete it.

Just thought of something from this, why not create a 3rd party software for the client and be able to do all that I've suggested...

[spoiler]

EDIT: Just to make things easier for the devs.
