I had to analyze a dream for my Psychology class a couple of months ago... this is it :) Btw I changed the names to protect identities I am hanging out with my best friend, Matt, at my house and we are throwing a Spalding Rubber Bouncy Ball at a painting in the living of my house. It is just a generic picture, but we are trying to hit the picture in the center so that it breaks the frame, however, we are only able to hit the edge of the frame. Matt decides to invite a friend of his over for lunch. I ask what his friends name is but he does not know and instead shows me a picture of her on his phone. It is a generic face but it is of a very beautiful girl of around 17 years old. She has very long, red hair that is curly and well brushed. I decide that we are going to make French fries for her and we call eat them for lunch. We put the French fries in the oven but they will not cook and the oven sets itself on fire. We put the fire out and decide to use the deep fryer instead. Unfortunately, the deep fryer does not work either and only succeeds in melting itself and various other objects in the kitchen because of the extremely hot oil. The fries are still frozen. Matt then suggests that we make something like hotdogs, pancakes, or cookies instead. However, I am very adamant that we make French fries and nothing else. I really, really want French fries for lunch. Our last hope is using the stove. I turn the stove on and it burns at a normal controlled level. My older sister, Stacy, then walks downstairs and from the staircase tells me that I will not be able to make French fries with the stove either. I ignore her and continue trying to cook the fries. The stove then catches on fire and many other kitchen utensils are burned and destroyed. I then take the frozen French fries and throw them away. Matt’s friend never shows up at my and then I awake shortly before my alarm is supposed to go off. Throughout the dream, I can recall being extremely frustrated. I ignore my friend’s suggestion of making another food for lunch and I also ignore my sister’s warning that I will not be able to make French fries, regardless of what method I use to cook them. I interpreted the action of my friend and me trying to break the painting just as us goofing around like we often do. We have been friends for fourteen years and we often get into a lot of trouble. In retrospect to the rest of the dream, I considered this small portion relatively insignificant. I believe that the reason for this dream is Daily Residue. I honestly am not sure how, but right when I woke up I just immediately knew that this dream was about this girl Taylor and my decision to ask her to the Senior Prom. That day, I drove to California School, gave her a red rose and asked her to prom. Her response was that she would likely go with me, but her prom was the same day and she did not have a date to that at this moment in time. However, she said that if she was unable to get a date to her prom then she would gladly go to mine. Unfortunately, my hopes of going to prom with her ended abruptly as she messaged me and told me that a friend of hers had asked her to prom, only three hours after I asked her. I was very angry and felt miserable that my efforts were in vain. I had asked Taylor out a few times before this and every time, her response was no, because she just wanted to remain friends. Although I was aware that our proms were on the same day, I thought that she would rather go to my prom because going to prom as a senior is much more significant than going as a junior, and she is only in eleventh grade. To myself, my dream seemed very straightforward. I believe that there is a connection between the red rose and the fact that the girl in the picture had vibrant red hair, like a rose. Although Taylor does not have red hair, she is a very big fan of Taylor Swift who recently released an album titled ‘Red.’ I felt like there was some relation because those two coincidences. I felt like my failed attempts to make French fries were representative of my multiple failed attempts of asking Taylor out on a date. I have been trying to go out with her for about six months and Matt is always telling me to forget about her and look for some other girl. Despite his advice, I have continued to chase Taylor in hopes that she one day changes her mind. My sister’s cameo in my dream is also Daily Residue. The night before I asked Taylor to prom, I discussed my plans with my sister, Stacy. The entire time she was telling me that it was a bad idea and that she was simply going to say no, just like she had countless times before. However, I had already spoken with Taylor’s best friend and I was fairly confident that she would say yes. I completely ignored my sister and remained confident that I could compel Taylor to go to prom with me. Ironically, the entire situation with Taylor and prom blew up in my face. Dreaming about it was a good way to deal with the stress of finding a date to prom and how upsetting it was to constantly be rejected by Taylor. At the end of my dream, I throw the fries away as they are incapable of being cooked. I took this as a hint from the “universe” that Taylor and I truly have no future. Despite telling myself this countless times, I have never had a dream about my failed attempts of getting Taylor to go out with me. As a result, I will not pursue Taylor anymore.
