There is the same question on page2 btw, there's something written about Curse Umbreon. Or maybe you can get some other advice here. I personally haven't experienced "uncommon" Umbreon sets myself, so others may share their info! ;)

Oh crap sorry I'll make sure to search before I make threads next time, yeah the people in that thread seem to agree Curse Umbreon isn't a great idea so I'm really not sure.

In many cases the opponent has already seen some pokes/walls of you, so he/she will often use a move which is not super effective against your Umbreon to hit the Pokemon he expects you to switch in. By using Protect before, the opponent has to think about using that move again and it doesnt hurt Umbreon that much maybe, doing the super effective move against Umbreon again if not banded and u switch in the counter of that Pokemon or if he predicted a switch and is banded he maybe has to switch out his Pokemon already because the move he chose was shit (doesn't 2hko Umbreon, lets it toxic, wish, whatever). I am not saying you have to go for that move, maybe others may inspire you with other moves ;)

Wow that sounds very complex xD I see how it's useful but relies a lot on luck! I'm looking at some guide and was thinking of having Payback instead of Pursuit along with Curse instead of Protect letting it deal a little more damage while boosting def and still being able to heal itself or an ally.

Protect is nice for scouting choicebanders though. Like if the enemy switches in his Choicebander/-scarfer and u use protect, you can do a safe switch after since u know the enemy attack. But care for setup sweepers if u do not already know if the Pokemon is banded.

Well how common are choicebanders though? And I feel like that situation is too specific to waste a move slot on it since if a choiceband-er does get switched in it wouldn't be too hard to guess what type the attack will be most of the time. Would a move like Curse be more useful or something that deals damage?

I think, the meta tends more to no Mean look. Just the moveset what Zebra said or u can get heal bell for toxic but that makes it even more non threatening than it already is. Also most will switch out a sp attacker from the get go so the mean look will hit the switched in Pokemon and at worst it is a Pokemon Zebra mentioned and you did nothing. Imo Chansey does the job so much better (yeah, everyone hates Chansey). Pursuit is better than Bite without Mean look imo because the sp attacker gets some good damage if switched out, for example Starmie.

I see what you mean about Mean Look especially after I use it once I wouldn't be able to get a chance after the enemy knows I have it. So I think I'll go with Pursuit, Toxic and Wish but I'm still not sure about Protect, something similar to Reflect would be more useful wouldn't it?

Baton pass is banned in singles so you can't run it. The most common umbreon set for OU would probably be wish+protect+toxic+pursuit, although personally, umbreon isn't very good in OU since it has very little offense and let's stuff in like heracross/metagross/snorlax for free, which are typically bigger threats than the sp atk'ers that umbreon is trying to wall actually.

Oh okay then so forget Baton Pass... well if that is a problem then I should keep Mean Look in to prevent them from switching right? And I guess Wish would be more useful than Curse if I can't use Baton Pass. So I guess Toxic, Mean Look, Wish, and Pursuit or Protect? Protect would make it more of a wall but probably be unnecessary most of the time and Pursuit could be good for dealing damage but not as useful if I use Mean Look so would keeping Bite be more useful than Pursuit?

  6. So I finally evolved my Eevee into Umbreon which took forever but now I'm trying to work out the best move set for it since it doesn't learn much on it's own. It currently has Toxic, Bite, Charm and Take Down. After doing a little research I find that Umbreon makes a good wall, staller or support so I'm thinking:

    - Mean Look

    - Baton Pass

    - Toxic

    - Curse or Wish

Basically by using Mean Look with Baton Pass I can switch to a Pokemon that's strong against the opponent and keeping them trapped. Then I could combine this with either Curse to improve the ally's atk and def or Wish to heal them when I switch. What do you guys think? Really need some opinions on this from people who know this stuff better than me.

  7. So I'm aware this game doesn't have some Pokemon such as the 3 Legendary Birds but I'm wondering if it's still possible to "complete" the Pokedex by catching all the available Pokemon in Kanto? So if I catch every obtainable Pokemon in PokeMMO which is 140-something, will Prof Oak still consider that completing it and congratulate me for it?

But is this idea, of all the ones on this forum, really needed that much? Just because some new player who complained about losing random battles, we have to change how things are currently? Absurd shit imo

And where in my post did I complain about losing battles? I said I've gotten myself into fights with level 100's a couple times, I'm not complaining about losing.

More work for the devs is not really a valid argument in any suggestion, anything the devs do is more work for the devs so pretty much every suggestion ever.

Chat is only so reliable, players can lie about what level pokemon they have.  The suggestion itself is not a bad one.

Thank you for responding! This is exactly why notmudkip0's arguments made no sense to me. Thanks for taking it into consideration.

    1. Chat already exists
    2. Questions also exist, ask them

"B-but they ignored me." Don't send a challenge then, they're clearly not up for a battle.

I thought the whole point of this section was to make suggestions to help improve the game? I'm not making a complaint and trying to find a work around, I'm trying to help the developers make it a better game!

Why is there so much negativity to this suggestion? What cons or reasons are there not to have something like this in the game? It does nothing but save people time.

Plus using chat is actually not a solution since it's only good for players who speak the same language as you! There are a lot of non-english speaking players. How am I supposed to ask them for duels if they can't understand me? And what about players who don't speak English or one of the other common languages? They'd never be able to find duels except with very limited groups of people.

And as I've already mentioned the code to make the window appear showing those stats is already in the game, so I assume it should be as simple as copy and pasting the code to make the same information appear upon sending a request.

Have you tried using Tournament-mode ? it scales all the pokemons to level 50, that way you don't have to worry about your opponents pokemons level.

So basically I have to wait until I'm over level 50 before I do any PvP? Where's the fun in that???

have you considered trying to communicate with the other people before spamming them with duel requests?

Yes I have and most of the time people will ignore you or not even see the message. Why should I have to rely on chat when it should simply tell you to save time? And I don't spam people with duel requests because that's how you get into fights with level 100s like I have several times while trying to find a legit fair match. You can't rely on the other players to be fair the community isn't that perfect. Not to mention I often get spammed duel requests much higher level than me and completely ignore me when I tell them they're too strong. So clearly chat is not a solution...

I have to agree with these other guys. The only time your opponent's Pokemon levels can vary is when you are challenging them to a Normal Mode battle. If you are looking for someone to have a Normal Mode battle with around your level, I suggest going to places in the game where a player is likely to have Pokemon of a similar level (like going to the 8th gym looking for a battle around 40-45, for example). If you are challenging players in Vermilion City to Normal Mode battles, they will often reject you because they are competitive players looking for competitive, Tournament Mode battles. I mean no offense when I say this, but challenging someone to a Normal Mode battle usually means you're a noob. Most competitive players don't even bother battling noobs.

    Tl;dr
Don't challenge competitive players to Normal Mode battles.

I do exactly that though and still barely ever find players close to my level! I don't challenge people by the 8th gym or Vermilion city.

The whole point of playing a Pokemon MMO is so you can interact with and battle other players! I seriously don't understand why you're all defending the current system so much when in reality that one minor change would make a HUGE improvement! People would actually start dueling each other for fun again instead of only looking for tournament matches with Pokemon over level 50! And being told we have to beat the story before we do any PvP is just ridiculous! Why not remove the duel option completely if that's the case?

  12. The main problem with Dueling is that it's very hard to find a suitable player to duel since you have no way of seeing how strong someone is before you challenge them! This is a huge problem since it means that when I challenge someone I have no idea if I'm challenging someone much weaker or stronger than me so most of the time I get rejected. I also often get duel requests from other players who have no idea how much weaker or stronger I am from them.

This also makes absolutely no sense since the person you challenge can see your Pokemon's average level and highest level so why can't we see that before we challenge someone? It would make finding fair fights a million times easier and is a huge problem that prevents people from Dueling. Plus since it's already coded into the game to appear upon receiving a duel request it should be very easy to do.

Just make it so that when you click "Duel" after clicking on another player it gives you a pop up showing the same window the person being challenged sees such as the challenger's average level, strongest Pokemon level etc. so you can check if they're not too strong or weak before you send them the challenge.

You're right; it should not be that hard to fix and would do a big difference.

Concerning the reward system, I think it can encourage players of similar levels to interact more. It could be a small cosmetic reward for instance. Or (a reduced amount of) xp for our Pokemons when they win a fight. Why not?

It really would yeah and I actually like the idea of winning cosmetic items! Because those don't give you any gameplay advantage that players could abuse yeah that would work really well actually.

And still having issues with Dueling. Just yesterday I made it to Lavendar Town and decided to find a duel, found another player who I assumed would be a similar level to me so I sent him a duel request, he accepts without saying anything and turns out he has a level 100 charizard... and none of my Pokemon are over level 32...

Even when I tried using chat and said "Dude why'd you accept if you're so much stronger" but he didn't care or reply. The thing is the community really isn't perfect and the devs seriously can't expect people to actually be fair when they accept duels and the other guy saying chat is the solution is wrong too because as I said and proved not a whole lot of people use chat and it's just a hassle that makes things take longer.

You're right, I felt the same during my progression. It is really cool to be able to challenge random players anytime in friendly fights.

Two improvements could yet be made:

    - As stated in the answers, the level of others players should be clearly visible before engaging in a fight.

    - There should be a small reward system, but only when fighting players with similar levels.

I only speak about friendly fights here, the competitions have already a polished system.

I don't think a reward system is entirely necessary especially since people could abuse it by letting their friend win or having alt accounts.

Literally the only thing the devs have to do to fix this whole issue is just make the same info window appear when you send someone a duel request as when you receive one! It's already coded into the game and everything, all they'd have to do is copy and paste some code so the window appears when you're being challenged AND when sending a challenge, and when you click "Okay" it then goes to the window where you choose the rules etc.

It's very simple really and would make a big difference. Just recently I was looking for a friendly duel in Lavendar town and ended up being tricked into a match against a guy with level 100s. It seriously is a faulty system that barely anyone wants to use because of exactly that.

A friend told me about this game a while ago, but my computer had just broken and I also had school to worry about. since Ive just recently fixed my pc I was wondering, how active is the PokeMMO community? Also I apologize if I put this in the wrong forum.

Update: Okay I just tried logging on now and the server is currently full and I'm currently in a queue to join with 89 other people, so yeah I'd say that answers your question! I

t's definitely got an active community!

  16. Well I just started a few days ago worried it would be empty and I'm never in an area that has nobody else in it, there's always lots of players around wherever I am and every time I log on it says the server population is High so it's always almost full.

No? Plenty of players look at chat (not all talk in it.) Also you can whisper the player... pretty easy to do.

I've tried to use chat to ask for duels several times and a lot of the time players don't even notice me. It would just make things a hell of a lot easier and save everyone time if we could just see that info ourselves. Plus it's already been coded into the game! Being able to see another player's average Pokemon level and highest level when you receive a challenge so it would be easy for the developers to make that same window appear before you send a challenge to someone.
