What's with the ai?

Pungyouknow

Question

Just started playing a week or two ago and I'm finding it exceptionally difficult to both be at a substantial level to beat the upcoming gym battles and also to have Pokémon that aren't complete garbage unless they have good maxed IVs. I would say overall I really enjoy the changes to ai but there are a few things that have really started grinding my gears like for instance why does every trainer Pokémon have to have coverage? I like set mode so I can try and outsmart and tactically challenge the ai but when every Pokémon has a typing move that counters my switches it's very difficult to play the game without wasting thousands of pokeyen on healing items. I guess I'm looking for advise as much as I'm trying to raise a point for new players in that yes I can see the elitism and can appreciate that part but I don't want to play for that I literally just wanted to play some Pokémon catch a few and take them through the journey but now I'm sitting in one spot where I have to find two perfect IVs and above average on the other stats before even thinking I can try to challenge the gym. I don't even get to catch the Pokémon I want I'm basically forced to only pick super good Pokémon and even then they're basically useless unless I have a team strategy in place. I'm already getting bored honestly, if I have to completely counter every gym before even attempting it increasing my grinding time from none to hours then it's just not worth it like what am I grinding for? If there was a single raid at the end or anything to look forward to other than competitive PvP I'd get it completely but I've played for 60 hours already and not even got a pokemon to level 40 across 3 regions thinking every time I try a new one I'd have a better team better chances but no. Every trainer has coverage. Every battle I have to go back to the Pokémon centre and every gym battle I'm spending tens of thousands of pokeyen just to scrape by even with good Pokémon good coverage and typings that in any base game would flatten the gym battles without taking a single point of damage.

What's the best Pokémon to invest in to sweep the game? I feel like I'd get on much better with the entire experience if I wasn't getting my ass handed to me every battle.

You don't need pokemon with perfect ivs or evs for the story of the game, make sure you have your pokemon at a level close to the maximum you can use, take different types in your team that cover themselves and switch between them when the rival has an advantage of types.

You can use gyarados or conkeldurr, they are good pokemon for PvE.

I also recommend krookodile (moxie) & excadrill - I find they are a pretty mindless choice when I want to do reruns. Just keep in mind that all the tools that you need are there but you may have to do some extra research such as gym leader sets, wild pokemon etc if you're struggling that much.

I think I understand what you mean here. For me when I switch I want to make sure that the pokemon coming in can completely wall or out speed & OHKO. I recommend using some kind of bulky pivot (a good example being scizor) for this as it makes the thought process a lot simpler. https://www.www.smogon.com/bw/articles/bw_volt_turn This is an old article I recommend you skimming over because any of these pokemon would be a super good choice for solving this problem. ^

This isn't the case at all, it just sounds like you need more game knowledge. If you want to keep on playing just know it will get easier.
