Sorry about that, I'm getting way off topic here. I'm sure the OP didn't intend to have an argument on hip-hop fundamentals here, but whatevs.
And I don't hate Lil Wayne. He's kind of a hit or miss; while he does give back to the community, he is still a terrible role model. But he's actually talented.
And I know that drugs have always been a part of hip-hop, but there are other things to rap about. Yes, Raekwon the Chef is awesome at cooking them rocks, but they're not the only thing he raps about.
And to answer your question, hip-hop artists like Immortal Technique, Slug (from Atmosphere), and Aesop Rock have managed to completely avoid the degradation in mainstream rap in their own music. They also serve as positive role models for young hip-hop fans, not to mention that they all go back to help not only their own communities, but other suffering communities as well.
Oh, and I say nigga on a regular basis. It's like a term of endearment among my friends. I only use the word nigger to point out blatant ignorance.
