1. If there is a good prize (shinies), it is a competition. Period. Competition can be fun however, but it should be as fair as possible. RNG is going to happen, never said it wouldn't so idk why this is an argument. Every official tournament is prestigious to some extent (go look at LYLE's page on round table, they take pride in winning tournaments no matter what it is.) Tournaments that are not "complete tests of skill" should be saved for unofficial and spontaneous tourneys.
2. I think that seeding should be implemented in the future where it can be done automatically (PvP Tower?), but for now there really isn't a fair way that I can think of to do it. Competitions should have seeding. It is a competition and new players have plenty of chances to improve besides official tournaments. There are far more Unofficial Tournaments, and people spamming tournaments for cash in-game, so idk why so many people use that as an argument. Official tournaments, even if not invitationals or masters should be treated as if the competition is the best of the best no matter what (that is the whole point of official tournaments imo.) so seeding would make it fair considering there is a 2nd place prize and the 2nd best player should earn that.
3. frags lost first round of ou monotype. proves seeding just helps, and wouldn't make it unfair. gg guise
4. Because there's a prize and they want to win. Same reason everyone plays in a tournament. Also, there is a second place prize, and the second best player should get it. So seeding >
5. If bad player isn't going to win anyways why use a random system to cater to them and give them a false sense of hope?
6. If people who have won officials before are not allowed it is an easier tournament so it should be a smaller prize (low tier shinies instead of mid-high tier) and eventually the number of people allowed in those would keep on shrinking, which means they will only get easier. Even with randomized brackets new players still have a chance to get beaten by good players, so idk why so many people are using this argument. It is a competition and being new or bad should not be rewarded in my opinion. There can be seperate events for new people so that they dont feel overwhelmed, or they can practice with matchmaking (when its fixed) or in viridian like everyone else.
7. Never said I could beat you or them, but it is possible. It is a COMPETITION and placings should at least somewhat accurately show who is more skilled. The only way new players are going to get better is if they lose and see what they did wrong. edit: for new players they could do tournaments with smaller prizes that people who have won officials can not compete in (alts would be a problem) to encourage new players to get into competitive.
8. yes but obviously the two best players should be playing in finals. what was the last tournament of anything you played? edit: Double elimination would also fix this, but if there was a way of seeding properly it would improve tournaments. I would have an empty seed, so I am not trying to take advantage of this, I am talking from experience in tournaments in other games.
9. it does not effect people who just start. they just have to win all their matches, just like anyone else would.
10. so the two best people shouldnt play each other in finals?
11. Having an unseeded bracket allows all of the "top" players to take each other out on one side of the bracket, while other players get an "easy" bracket on the other side and end up only having to play 1-2 tough fights. I know anything can happen, and anyone has a chance of winning, but if you win multiple officials, I don't think you should have to play someone else who has won a ton of officials off the start. (I am in the bracket for the OU Monotype on the complete opposite side of them and still see it as unfair to them, I wouldn't mind losing first round to them (would love to beat them though huehue)) The finals should be between the best two players, not round 2. A way I thought of for seeding was adding anyone who has won in the Hall Of Fame having their name added to a list:
Example: Seed 1: (Insert Name): 20 Officials won Seed 2: (Insert Name): 15 Officials won etc. etc.
This would allow anyone who has won before to have a higher seed, and people who have not won would be randomly shuffled, with the top two seeds (highest chance of winning, statistically) to be on opposite sides of the bracket and have the highest chance of the two best players in the finals. This however does not mean that they are guaranteed a spot in the finals. They still have to work their way through the bracket like everyone else.
4am my time, sorry if retarded
Edit: sorry i dont understand how it incentivizes playing on an alt? literally every professional sport and gaming league uses seeding and the goal is to get the best seed. You do not get punished for having the top seed, you get rewarded in a VERY slight way. Lets say for example KingBowser has the top seed and Frags has second (i have no idea who has what) This means they have won the most officials and therefore have the highest odds of winning, they would be on opposite sides of the bracket so that they have a chance of playing in finals. However, it is still completely possible for them to end up losing first round just like anyone else, but it probably wont happen.
12. Just though about this after seeing that frags and kingbowser play each other in round 2 of the monotype mashup, when they are both obviously capable of winning it. Discuss ways of having a fair seeding system (i cant think of any ways)
13. ummm. kingbowser and frags play each other round 2 :/
14. a lot of things counter blaziken, that we currently have implemented, so it should not be gamebreaking. Dugtrio(hue), claydol, bulky waters if it doesnt run thunderpunch, quagsire even if it does.
15. the point is that adding it would greatly benefit the meta.
not that devs listen to the community
16. I know the devs want to wait since its a starter, so he can be released with treecko and mudkip. I feel like it would be a good pokemon to implement soon because it would improve the meta greatly. Reasons: - It is basically an anti-meta pokemon, beating many common walls/threats (Skarm, Bliss, Lax, TTar (free him pls), magneton. It can also run sets with swords dance, special attacking sets, get thunderpunch (when event/emerald tutor moves are added) Just my thoughts, although i know it probably won't happen, and ill get hate for it
17. its really easy for pokemon that dont need a good HP or are useless without the right ability Thick Fat Azumarill is an awful pokemon. theres a 50% chance your egg is going to be awful from the start. Then a small chance it will have good IV's. Then a smaller chance it will have the right hidden power.
18. who cares if its "legendary" or not? I wouldn't care if everyone had a mewtwo tbh. As long as its banned in tmode its fine to me
19. Since when, in any pokemon game, has a legendary pokemon been rare? I really dont give 2 fucks if someone has a mewtwo following them, just dont allow it in tourny play and make everyone happy If someone gets butthurt because "omg so many mewtwo follow wow no like" they can just turn off follower sprites. What difference does it make if everyone has one or nobody has one? Mewtwo isn't impressive at all to look at and the same ~10-15 people get him over and over again.
20. I think ~ 5 minutes to run would be good. At least get out of the cave with it
