catching normal pokemon in the wild..

hello. just started this game. I dont play pokemon oras or any other competitively cos I dont like how breeding works. you capture pokemons just for breeding and spending their time in your closet. then you breed tons of lvl 1 babies, only to throw them away to wild.many people are okay with this, but I think it just kills the idea in the game. so, I ask as complete newb, how it works here? am I able to try to be competitive player, or do i just be casual and for fun like always, and not breed... or even better, can I obtain good pokemons without breeding, only by catching? ty for helping me out ^_^
