A system that promotes spam? This will likely not turn out very well, it will just make trading more frustrating. An Auction house however would be great, just like we know it from other games. (WoW, Diablo, etc). This way you could outright buy the pokemon from the auction house, or if you would like to negotiate for a better price, simply whisper the person selling the item(name should be available next to auction), or send an ingame mail.

And while i do agree that a public win/lose count could be unhealthy, having a displayed rating instead can still be something to brag about, while not having much negative effect. Edit: I think that its important that the Rating system(in this topic GP) should be calculated using a mathematical formula based on your own rating and your opponents, as well as for the matchmaking system to overlook your rating difference when searching for matches if you have been waiting for a long time(being one of the smaller MMO's, you could wait several hours for a match if your rating is high enough) I dont think tiers should be a thing in matchmaking, at least not in the start. Its already a small game, and splitting the playerbase even more would cause for some serious queue times.
