  1. Not to be a party-pooper, but am I the only one who finds it obnoxious that a lot of lurkers, that are unable to read a tutorial on how to patch a ROM keep flooding this specific thread? I miss the times where McMagister and Moetal were all actively talking about what sprites to tackle next, and people like Iagesthaghardcore joining the fun and create something awesome. Posts such as the last few that were not relevant to actual Moemon clog the thread, and it's annoying to see for lurkers like me, who just want to check out the Progress of the Moemon Firered project. That said, I don't want my post to be as redundant as the the ones I'm criticising here, so I would like to ask whether or not there is any way we can help out the project, if we are unable to do spire art ourselves. For instance, I know of a tremendous sprite artist, which sadly I no longer have contact with, but I would be glad to atleast give it a shot and ask him aout whether or not he's be interested in lending a hand. Alternatively, one of you guys could ask him yourselves. Might even be more likely for him to help out this way anyway... ^^' That said, I'm looking forward further updates of both major Moemon projects. Keep up the good work. :)
  2. @Kickern Sorry for the late reply, I was busy with my studies and work. I really like your most recent edits to Articuno. The turqoise looks a little off on Articuno though; with this cold stare and the smile, she looks more like a Yandere instead of a ''cool'' type of cold, somewhat emotionless stare, like a Kuudere, for instance. The latte would fit very well with Articuno pertaining the facial expression in my opinion, but it's moemon after all, so I'm fine wit cutesy shit, too, I personally like this stuff. :3 As for the palette, maybe change her ribbon into a darker shade of blue, while the eyes get either a light blue (not turqoise) color, or an even darker blue tone as the ribbon would get. As for the body, a light blue would work out too, similar to the gloves. I know that people said that Articuno looked too blue otherwise, but I was thinking about it. If we compare it with the original, Articuno generally consists of blue. Maybe, we will simply have to put in more details to the moemon sprite to make it look less ''bland'', so that all this blue doesn't strike people, that see it for the first time, as ''a big blue blob''. No idea if making the general design of the sprite more detailed is even viable, nor do I know how to specify what exactly I mean under ''the sprite becoming more detailed''. It's simply a question of expression and perspective, I guess. What exactly are we trying to express with Articuono? Like, what do we want the player to think about the sprite, when he encounters this moemon? @General The bird trio looks nice. Moltres wings look kinda small/cramped, to be honest, like it can't extend its wings properly. I can see that the room for extending it is probably somewhat limited. In general, I agree with the wings of all the legendary birds being slightly taller/wider, while also being varied. As in: Zapdos ----> spiky wings ('cause it's an electro type) Articuono ----> broad wings, kinda similar to a fan, which looks kinda elegant (works for an ice-type, imo) Moltres ----> ... chicken wings? (fire type, obviously; not sure if the flames could extend slightly over the actual wings and it still looking like ''flames'', and not like a variation of Zapdos' spiky wings) @toottoot Your drafts are amazing, very nice designs you have there! I personally think that a kimono would be fitting better than a mahou shoujo kind-of costume, but since the other legendary birds have mahou shoujo designs as well, Articuno wouldn't be consistent with its design in comparison to Zapdos and Moltres. If you guys go down the route of making a sprite for this one, by all means, go for it, as I can imagine it to become a potentially very neat design. :3 Also, hope you'll be able to sprite in the near future, sorry to hear that your laptop is broken. :/ @CrookedWings427 http://rs349.pbsrc.com/albums/q370/Crooked_Wings66/Mobile Uploads/poly 2_2.png?w=480&h=480&fit=clip This looks really nice, a very good sprite. The hair looks, in comparison to the other three designs you posted as of recent, the best, in my opinion. I will have to agree though that the pose looks kinda off. Why is her right (our left) hand behind her, instead of putting it on her waist? Also, the left glove looks bigger than her right one. As for the legs, it kinda looks like a cheerleader cheering you on. While this does indeed look pretty cute and stuff, is there another pose we could try? I don't know why, but I feel like that kind of pose doesn't fit with poliwhirl. But that's probably just my own preference here, feel free to disagree. :) As for the hair, shouldn't we leave the duts to Poliwrath? That's actually why I really liked your Poliwhirl design with the hair I just linked to that you made. Just saying. :o Also also, I really love the new Growlithe sprite, but agree that it currently looks way too much like Arcanine. http://i.imgur.com/X9xUECl.png This here looks like a very neat attempt so far, but since it's Growlithe, the hair should be not as long. Maybe, make it up to the shoulders in length? Not sure if it has to be a ponytail again, or not, but I feel like incorporating a ponytail with Growlithe while keeping this ''swingy hair'' like with Arcanine could be difficult to accomplish. Should we try open hair? I don't know. :o Well, in the end, you guys do all the work, I can't do shit with pixels. If you listen to my points or not is up to you; I am however glad whenever I can see that my advice has been put into consideration. Thanks a lot, guys. ^-^ The pose however is very fitting, but something seems off about how Growlithe stands, probably the angle.
  3. Well, I agree that Poliwhirl's bust is a little too big now, even for an evolved Pokemon. On another note, we now have a nice Totodile. Wished the three legendary birds would take the cake though. Speaking of which, doesn't articuno look kinda irritating with the red in it? I get that we wanted to make the designs kinda similar to mahou shoujo girls from anime and stuff, but wouldn't Japanese mythology work out, too? For articuno, we could base the design on Yuki-onna, for example. The red on the mahou shoujo dress looks kinda irritating on articuno, in my opinion. I know that a lot of people said that there was otherwise too much blue in the sprite, but wouldn't another aproach on its design do the trick? I'd imagine a Yuki-onna giving off an elegant vibe - perfect for a legendary Pokemon such as articuno. Maybe, finding a balance between white and several shades of blue based on a Yuki-onna design would make the sprite look less blue-ish. Feel free to disagree, just my two cents. :3
  4. IaGashetahardcore's design for Ivysaur, same version McMagister voted for, if we ate already voting. Also, welcome back, Magi. :3
  5. Well, to be honest, I share Kickern's sentiment about the scissors being left for Scissor. Maybe, we can try some science with the wings, albeit I agree that the yellow part of the wings of Scyther looks kinda off. Looks kinda... I don't know, like a photon blade? Maybe, that would be a kinda cool idea to incorporate to the swords of Scyther, though ''photonic'' kinda gives of an electric type of vibe, but oh well. You are the guys with knowledge; just my two cents. PS: I really miss Magi's work. Whatever happened, I just wished Magi and Moetal would patch up, since it would be in the best interest for the moemon fire red project itself. :/
  6. I can give you cookies. :3 Is it just me, or does Nidoking's right eye (our left) looks incredibly big in comparison to its other eye? I know it's intentionally being drawn like that to reflect the perspective and angle it's being sprited like, but it looks kinda weird nontheless. Probably not much that can be done about it since it's not really an ''issue'' to begin with, but I thought if I'm already writing here... Darn, smiling Oddish strikes again. :/ Looks great, but the backsprite doesn't look like its smiling. But to be honest, I prefer the facial expression of the backsprite like it is, it shows a melancholic expression in my opinion, which I'm really fond of. :)
  7. I'd say the first pose for Oddish fits it better, as well as the not-smiling version for the entire Oddish line. But that's just my opinion here. Also, nice to see updates for Muk, even though it looks already well-made. I'm really fond of the design, keep up the good work, guys. :)
  8. I think oddish looks fine the way it is. The whole oddish line has the same/similar facial expressions, which is a good thing in my opinion. No need to change anything (that I can spot, mind you) on the poses either.
  9. @Moetal I'm not sure if these are completed (there can always crop up a bugfix after all), but weren't a lot of people asking for your Moemon patch being compatible with ''Pokemon - Liquid Crystal''? ''Pokemon Throwback'' and ''Pokemon - Dark Cry'' might be a good alternative as well. Or, what about ''Pokemon Naranja''? Though I know for a fact that the English version of Pokemon Naranja wasn't ever completed... but I guess the original version could work out? Not sure. :/ Also, how does the Magikarp-tan one look like? I just know how the start screen looks with Flareon, and that one looked really, really well. :) I was already wondering why you guys didn't make Magikarp-tan as a playable character at default. And if you were to do just that, wouldn't there be a need for a male counterpart moe protagonist? But, that would probably take away from the initial thought of making this vanilla and just change the sprites themselves. Whatever, food for thought, I guess.
  10. Hmm, in my opinion, a grinning cloyster suits the personality of the specific Pokemon, but the moe version looks better, if you ask me. I'm really fond of Onix being completely grey; looks great. :)
  11. I'd actually agree with Moetal; design-wise, I like the Margikap model more, but on the other hand, it makes sense that Gyarados has to bend its legs, considering how big it is. So... I guess the one Magi is working at is the better choice? Can we use Magikarp's pose atleast for something different then? Btw, how does our current Magikarp look like, if I dare to ask? :o
  12. @Moetal Wow, this looks so much better with the moe expression. I wonder if it's possible to make that change reflect in the backsprite as well though.
  13. Well, I like Gloom's current eye color, gives of a ''tranquilized'' facial expression, which I myself am fond of. The pose is also great, just Oddish seems a bit odd. I prefered Bellosom's skin tone in the more white one instead of the tanned one though. Deathscythe-Houndoom's sprites are just badass, especially the front sprite. Quite impressive actually. :o
  14. @Magi Sounds like you are pissed. I'm aware that it's not my fault, but it wasn't my intention to express my own preference, just so that several other people can add their BS to it, even though they aren't interested in this whole thing to begin with. While moe is a term that can be widely interpreted and is indeed something related to ''cutesy'', in a way, it sounds like there are people that want to see their own Moemon version just with their own selected sprites. If that is the case, they might as well should learn how to sprite and become a sprite artist themselves. I for one know how to appreciate the work you and other spriters have been putting into this, so don't let it get to you. Unless I'm getting it wrong and you aren't even too piqued about this - then might as well forget about me trying to cheer you up, it won't be necessary then after all. :P
  15. Darn, green eyes lost, huh? No point in voting for version 1 then alone for the eye color... I will have to agree, version 4 counting from the left gets my vote as well. :/ Edit: Oh, the eyes will be red in the final anyways. Sorry, my bad. :P
  16. Eh, then you were never interested in anything ''moe-related'' to begin with? Then what are you even doing in a thread that contains aspects of our current pop-culture trend called ''moe''?
  17. ''Didn't like the moe.'' ... then you shouldn't vote on something called MOEmon, in my opinion. Well, I guess it looks too ''uguu-kawaii-desu ne~'' in his opinion and I agree with that, but the wording is a bit inaccurate. Correct me if I'm wrong CyrusZathen, I can't speak on your behalf, after all. No offense, mate. :) Also, I voted for the one version with green eye colors. No matter the outcome, whatever wins should have the sprite correspond to Doduo's, meaning that if a version of Dodriowith red eyes happens to wins, the Doduo sprite should have red eyes as well. Same with green eyes. Just a suggestion, mind you. I'm curious who will win. ^-^
  18. Hmm, voted for the one with the green eyes in the end. While I definitely prefer the sassy/bashful expression, I wasn't too sure about the choice of eye color. Both, red and green pairs of eyes look good on that sprite. @Magi Speaking of which, Dodrio DOES look annoyed in comparison to the old Dodrio sprite's face. I prefer the angle her arm holding the fan how it was in the old one though. But Dodrio's hair looks much better in the current version. The hairband looks better, too. The old hairstyle looks more ''spiky''; by own preference, I'd say the hairstyle in the new sprite looks better (guess I can just go by preference here). The shading on Dodrio's right leg is also nice, though I prefer the old sprite's shading. So... just my two cents. While not being sure if my suggestions are useful ones, I thought I'd express them anyways. Thanks Moetal for making it a democracy vote. :)
  19. Regarding Doduo, I would go with with the other eye color instead of the current red one. I just noticed that Dodrio has red eyes too, can't say if this blue/green-ish would suit Dodrio though. To be honest, I like Dodrio's red eyes, but just the blushing isn't really my thing, so I think the sprite CyrusZathen posted in his previous comment here is the most fitting one if it comes to facial expression. Looks just great, just the updated hair/ponytail as well as the removal of the blush would make it, in my humble opinion, look the best. Regarding Dodrio, I'd say variation 3 as well. But wait... are we even allowed for our input here, or was Moetal's question specifically directed to Magi? Because, I thought that the ''Pick your poison.'' part was a general attempt to gather feedback, not just Magi's. If it was just directed to Magi, I will keep quiet now and let people with more experience mess with this. ^-^''
  20. Well... I personally prefered that Kuudere expression as well, to be honest. :/ I can see where Magi is coming from though. Actually, I thought of the blushing cheeks being a bit too much, and I prefered the old fan and hair style, too. It made Dodrio look slightly intimidating, which I think is being relatively fitting. But that's just my own opinion here, I like the sprite work and concepts I've been observing here (including my time as a lurker) verymuch, as these are high-quality sprites. I probably couldn't pull off something like that, so you have my thanks. Everyone who has submitted art that got accepted by people having a good sense for creativity and pixel art. :)
  21. @Cyrus Good grief... 1. Because it's called Moemon, and not Arthritismon; except for Pokemon that have its gender signified like Nidoran♂ for instance, the Pokemon are supposed to look loli-like and cute. Simply ''Moe'', as the title of this thread suggests. This works best with female anime lolis, since it's more or less the epitome of what's considered to be ''cute'' in regards to gaming/anime and stuff (everything fictional, not to be confused with cutesy as we know it in real life; that's quite different). 2. It's less work to do for the Abra family. What's easier: To change one sprite to make it female, or to change two sprites to make these sprites male? Also, for Alakazam, the active spriters here might have already a pose to work with (subject to approval, I guess). There is a good chance of Abra and Kadabra having to change their poses, if they are going to be male. Besides of that - why making this specific family male to begin with? All other Pokemon are implied females as well, except the ones specifically stated to have a male gender. 3. It never got stated that Alakazam would be specifically male; Kamigoroshi even mentioned that it's a ''male'' sprite, yet that it could give inspiration for a pose for Alakazam. I hope that these guys can pull off something really good. Alakazam is my all-time favourite Pokemon and totally badass, in my opinion. :) @Magi Don't mention it, you're welcome. Guess it's wait and tea time for now, hope the situation calms down there soon-ish. By the way, that Cloyster sprite you've posted is just gorgeous! But I can see it does seem a little off and not really represents the nature of Cloyster. ^ Now that sprite works really good for Cloyster, I think Kamigoroshi made a nice catch with this one. (Excuse me, I don't know how to use spoilers here... how can I put images as spoilers? Sorry about the trouble.) Oh, and I noticed that Charmanders front and backsprites don't reflect it each other. Is it just me, or does Charmander's backsprite look like its right arm is going straight down, while its front sprite shows Charmander's right arm slightly angled? Maybe it's just me seeing things though, I'm not a spriter after all. Will be looking forward further updates. I'm already extremely curious about the Abra family. :)
  22. I really wonder how the new venusaur sprites will look like... Also, has anyone heard from Magi? It has been a while since he mentioned about taking a break from this Moemon project due to the Umbrella Movement incident. Hope he's alright. :/
  23. Hey guys, first time poster here. Thanks a lot for making this ''cutesy version'' of Pokemon even possible. I'm looking forward further updates and am eagerly waiting for the new patch that's (seemingly) about to be released. :) Anyways, there is a reason that I'm writing this. I'm sure some of you may or may not be aware that TwitchPlaysPokemon has been started playing Touhoumon and Moemon simultaneously. During play,it seems like there occured a glitch in Moemon (the version is still unknown, but I personally am very confident it's the latest one) that resulted in getting a team full with level 2 ivysaurs, when trying to get back a Moemon from the daycare. Screenshot for reference: http://i.imgur.com/0Iw7chI.png Also, taken from a website dealing with the current TwitchPlays thing: ''When Moemon visited the Day Care, the game froze, and they somehow got a party of six level 2 Ivysaurs at 119% health, 5 badges, and 3848192002 poke-bucks. Obviously, a reset was necessary.'' Source: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/LetsPlay/TwitchPlaysTouhoumonAndMoemon So, is this glitch caused by the Moemon patch itself? Is it something vanilla? Does it just occur on the (U) version of the game? Or maybe, is it even something I haven't thought about? Just thought I would let Moetal (and anyone else actively involved in this project) know about a bug in Moemon being present; it seems like this hasn't been reported yet.
