Gizmo is close, but that's the border of that map.
In town the border is made of water, out of town it's made of trees.
You usually do not have this view range, so a few odd issues may happen.
Desu is of course correct. To explain it better, I shall get you a picture;
Above this text, is a picture of the entire Vermillion city map.
Now, when a map ends, anything around it is replaced with what is known as a "Border block" that extends within all the players site line whilst they are in that area.
I have circled with red, and pointed to the border block for Vermillion city, in my map editor.
Now, when you went North of Vermillion City, the game had to load the map for Route 6;
Again, above this text is the entire map for route 6, and as you can see, the border block for Route 6 is tree's, instead of Vermillion's border block - water.
When you went north, and the game loaded Route 6's map, it took the border block from the area you were in and applied it everywhere there was free space in sight range, as it's programmed too.
As Desu has said, you don't normally have this view range, so this is likely to happen a lot, as you are not supposed to see beyond the map. At least not very far.
I hope we've managed to clear this up. :)

Aha looks great! Pokeball design O!
-
Fair enough. Here's hoping it works.
And same here :)
EDIT:
To make this idea more of a reality, I shall be making a shared account for all those who want to make videos for the teachy TV, that way we have something to give the devs, to make their lives easier.
For all those interested, please let me know. first up we probably need someone to play through the entire story, and record their adventure.
I'd do it myself if I weren't so busy. Anyone willing to?
-
I prefer the version that goes, "Give a man a fire and he will be warm for a day, set a man afire and he will be warm for the rest of his life."
Haha, so do I. I just felt it was more relevant. -
The problem I still see with this is the fact that people will irregardless troll the chat with questions anyway, and even then some "new" players will still flood questions anyway because what's easier? Typing the question and waiting for someone to respond within seconds? Or click a hotkey, going through a long drawn out animation showing them how to do it? The concept is fine, but it still seems far more tedious than just typing a question and waiting for a quick response.
And with the constant and consistent influx of players, it's going to become a chat full of "Consult your Teachy TV." every single line when they ask a question. When we can just instead respond to their question right then and there.
Well the Teachy TV will have an in-built search feature.
The chat being filled with "Consult your Teachy TV" is not a bad thing, maybe they may learn what to do. ;)
It may be far more tedious, but it's also an easier way to learn, and it gets tedious repeating the same answers all day.
The options there if they wish to learn, if they don't, they dont' have too.
I think it's a fair concept.
Afterall, it only takes a few extra seconds.
As Dahaka once said "Give a man an answer and he will shortly forget it, teach a man to Google and he will no longer ask questions"
Were not here to cater to people's laziness, if they truly wish to learn, they shall do so.

An ingame solution to our problems? Wonderful!
Still, great job darkshade for being our Teachy TV in the mean time ^_^
Haha, thankyou Othienka, and yes, I guess I am the current teachy TV xP
You, my dear, are brilliant.
I try ;D
It's unfortunate that nobody will use it still and will only immediately post to Global anyway.
Some of course still will, the beauty of this is that it's shoved onto you as soon as you start the game.
Alongside that, we can immediately ask players to refer to their Teachy TV's for certain questions.
-
>not raping the like button
I'd like it myself, but that'd be weird.
An error occurred
You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day
Haha, that made me laugh a little :)
wow. maybe i'd enjoy global again.
That's the idea~!

My second suggestion I shall be making in this section.
Ok, so being a CM usually means a lot of questions are thrown in my direction -
(I must stress at this point, that it is indeed my job to answer them, and I am not complaining about doing so. I very much enjoy it.)
As more and more users join the game, the more questions are brought up.
The current solution to this problem is the FAQ tab, accessed by using H.
My solution to this problem, is the Teachy TV;
An item which existed in FireRed/LeafGreen, and for the sole purpose of helping new players.
After accessing it, a menu with a series of helpful guides would pop up, with questions related to what the player wanted to learn;
After choosing one of the questions, an animation would play out, teaching the player how to play the game in relation to that question.
Here is a video example;
My idea of course, would be to implement the Teachy TV into PokeMMO, but along with some of the existing tutorials, which could be read straight from the ROM, others would need to be scripted to fit around certain questions that would exist within PokeMMO.
Such as how to fly, How to make Pokemon follow you, etc. etc.
Now, another idea I had would be to have someone record a playthrough of the game, in seperate parts, and one of the Teachy TV's "Questions" or "Features" would be to play these videos in-game through the use of a built in video player.
Again, I know this is all a hassle to code, and may not happen/would be a long way off. But I really believe this to be a permanent solution.
Now to questions you may have about the idea: -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How will players get the Teachy TV?
My idea would be to have your Mother give the Teachy TV to all new players just before they exit the house.
With the dialogue along the lines of;
"PlayerName! Don't forget this! Prof.Oak told me to give to give to you as a young aspiring trainer."
-PlayerName Obtains TeachyTV-
"Good luck Honey! You can use the Teachy TV by -Insert whatever method of using the TeachyTV is here-
Oh! And don't forget to visit RivalName's Sister, I hear she has a spare Town Map for you!"
This should eliminate numerous problems, the questions of how to use it, and helps those players who forget to pick up a Town Map to use fly later on in the game.
And of course older Players can revisit their Mother to get the Teachy TV also, after that she will return to her usual dialogue, and healing your Pokemon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How will the Teachy TV be accessed?
Well, my initial though would be to put it down on the bottom right hand corner, near the Game Menu, and also have it accessed via a hotkey.
Either way, it is important that your Mother explains how it is accessed when she first gives it to you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please Note:
- All of the other questions that exist within the TeachyTV could also be videos played through a video player, instead of scripted events.
- The Teachy TV questions could easily be edited to help answer the questions that are relevant to the existence of PokeMMO at that time.
- If the questions are done via video, members of the community could chip in, and help create them.
(Again, down to the devs)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok now that's out of the way - One last thing; There exists a sign in Pokemon FireRed, and also PokeMMO in Pallet Town, that reads;
"Trainer Tips: Press START to open the Menu!"
Since Start does not exist in PokeMMO.
It could easily be replaced with one of these three options;
"Trainer Tips: Press H to open the FAQ!"
or
"Trainer Tips: Press (Insert Hotkey) to open the Game Settings!"
or
"Trainer Tips: Press (Insert Hotkey) to use the Teachy TV!"
I think I've written everything down, if not - I'll add to it later.
Let me know what you think of the idea.

EDIT: Also a better title name for the thread might be "Teachy TV - A better HELP solution?"
Thankyou for reading.

I like this idea on the merit that it helps people see what Pokemon they are about to fight.
However it should be done the same way as being ASKED to duel, giving an average level of the Pokemon.
Stats would be completely unfair, as you'd know what your opponent's best stats were.
And I for one would hate people having the ability to actually see what Pokemon I have on me.
-
Good idea!
Thankyou, hopefully the devs will agree, about to put up my second suggestion I think.
-
This is beautiful, excellent job, I hope it gets used in some title screen mods!
-
I definitely think this is a must have. :)
-
I don't feel this would be in the spirit of Pokemon, nice idea though.
I'm sure others would disagree.
-
This looks excellent, great job Darkshade.
Thankyou.
Again, I think this is one of the "enabadable" modificatons.(For big MMOs) Just like WoW,,, We should take a lot from WOW they know how to MMO.
However the normal SHIFT+CLICK and it posting a quick link for pokemon and items would be a lot better.
Shift click works too. Dragging just made the most sense to me.
Both would also work.
-
Looks fantastic. Very nice. I could see a way to trick someone and steal, but as long as you can see the card while it is inside the trade as well I like it.
You can, you're supposed too ~ :)
I think it's enough by just showing a clickeable highlighted name of the pokemon. That way we keep the chat clean.
Good suggestion
Edit: From the pokemon summary an "Add to chat" button could be added.
Yeah I mentioned the icon could be replaced with a name.
Add to chat could also be used, though I was thinking maybe along with dragging, there could be hotkeys for each spot in your party.
-
I like this suggestion. Finally something new.
Glad you do ~
So kind of like EVE? I support this!
I've never played EVE, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say yes?
the screenshot's look great could be a cool addition.
Haha thankyou. Let's see what the Dev's say.
genius
=P Thanks.

Just one of many suggestions I shall be making.
This one in particular should save players using trade chat a lot of time, and hopefully isn't too hard to code.
I've made pictures to try and explain it better;
Ok, so for this example, I'm going to be trading my Gengar.
Here you can see I'm dragging it into the trade chat.
You can see an icon and the Pokemon's Pokedex number Appears in the chat box.
(The Icon could alternatively be replaced with the Pokemon's name)
As you can by the picture, when the icon and text (They're both part of the same thing) are right clicked, it brings up the Pokemon's Summary box.
This will also work for players around the server after the message is sent.
(Again, the icon could be replaced with the Pokemon's name)
Here is an example of how it would be used, and of course, people can right click to check the stats and nature of the Pokemon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This should save many people time typing out the stats, natures and EV's, and IV's of a Pokemon.
They could of course still put important information, like 31 IV's in X stat next to it, to attract attention.
Hopefully my short example with pictures makes sense.
Let me know what you think of the idea, and if you have any questions about it.
Again - the Pokemon icon could be replaced with it's name in the Trade chat bar.

[Denied] Shiny Announcement on Chat
in Trash
Posted
I'm with this.
It's a nice idea, and I'm glad you want people to be celebrated, but if I found a shiny, I'd hate 100 people messaging me for it.
