Yeah, it's annoying. These people CAN just logout then terminate the session, but instead it seems like usually they just go back to the main menu and let it sit for some reason. The turn timer should change to a reconnect timer when it happens, and it should not be 3 minutes long. Turns being 3 minutes long is insane in the first place. I'll pull an NU out, and half of the time I have to wait 1-2 minutes while the other guy sits there confused and/or Googling what it is. 60 seconds is more than long enough to take your turn, or even be a noob and Google something if you choose to.

If you run the second instance through the same IP, it's possible they could see, yes. But then there are many cases where multiple people in the same household are both playing PokeMMO at the same time, so they can't exactly ban a duplicate IP blindly. Basically, no. There's no way they can SEE that you're using a virtual machine or not, just the IP.
