4th gym is Driftveil gym right?

Just get a fighting type pokemon and that gym will be way more easy. Trust me.

I wiped everything with just a Primeape on lvl cap :B

Also... A fighting type Pokemon will help you fight against almost every single one of Team Plasma's grunts.

4th gym is the electric type one.

All you need for Diftveil is a Cofagrigus.

No, I will not stop jerking it off. I was legit amazed on how well it tanked hits when I used him.

You're still having more users come in and being exposed to the game and bringing up the popularity.

I don't exactly think a game that requires you to find ROMs of a game is going to be very popular....ever.

Also try to pay attention to how much damage each move you use does to the target.

And be aware that damage range is a thing.

I've actually won more battles than I can count by crossing my fingers for damage range to roll low.

This is 100% incorrect. To start, the difficulty spike is intended to prepare players for planned end game content which won't be any easier than the storyline.

The other thing that I keep seeing is the claim that players are being forced to learn comp. This is not true at all. The change is in the form of having to actually think about what you are going to do next in a battle instead of mindlessly pressing buttons. The difficulty spike is there to encourage strategic thinking. You can still use pretty much whatever team you want as long as you are thinking on your feet.

Believe me, I'm about as casual a player as you can get in this game and I honestly enjoy the challenge. I have very little comp knowledge at all, practically zero.

A slight change in mindset can be the difference between winning and losing. You wanna think about what your opponent is going to do. Mostly, it's going to be switches.

    From what I can tell, the Gym Leader AI switches when;

-It can do more damage with a different pokemon, based off of its own attack/special attack

-Another pokemon they have, has a super effective move, while the one on the field does not.

-You have a type advantage, and they have a pokemon that's normally effected/resistant to it.

Use this knowledge to help predict switches. It's not 100% foolproof, however, but that's what keeps this interesting.

In these threads to where people have an issue with a new change:

"Hey everyone, is anyone else having difficulties with some of these new changes implemented? It'd be nice if they were removed or changed in a certain way..."

"HAHA I'VE LITERALLY BEAT THE GAME WITH 6 LILIPUPS YOU'RE JUST A CASUAL THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH THE GAME"

It's nice that pokemon is, for once, challenging. Trainers, especially Gym Leaders, act like actual players for the most part.

You have to rethink your strategy and bring in more pokemon to a fight.

    Basically, git gud.

I'm also stuck at the 4th gym in Unova rn. The main problem being how I have two ground type with pretty nasty movesets that are right natured and everything. . . But I can't even kill one of the leader's mons without using like 40 potions. I understand the idea of level caps and I'm personally all for it, right? But maybe not so low. 4th gym, the highest level is 27, and I'm capped at 30. Maybe we can raise that to 32 to at least make it possible for the people that just want to relax as they play. Now everything feels like it's cut throat. Raising the cap 2 levels still provides a safety net of keeping your mons equal, but it also can provide some more relaxing qualities to the game, still keeping a fair amount of the difficulty.

Only advice I can give is to bang your head against the gym repeatedly.

    Worked out for me.

If you're having trouble with the 5th gym, however, catch and raise a Yamask until it evolves into a Cofagrigus. Damn coffin can tank Clay's hits like nothing.

The real problem is not the level cap but how absurdly hard gym leaders are (and I guess E4 too) compared to the rest of the story trainers. It rather makes the game an unbereable grind through weak trainers until you find a good rival in the gym leader, OR you have a nice chain of battles until you bump into an invincible gym leader...

I kinda like how the gym leaders are an actual challenge now, because they use more advanced tactics like switching. The only gym leader I'd classify as 'easy' is Brycen because I choose Tepig as a starter. C L E A N W I P E.

The level cap does add a nice bit of challenge to the game, and overall, I kinda hated it at first, but then I enjoyed it more as I went through the game. It encourages a more 'fun' style of play that adds some challenge to an otherwise pretty easy game.

It took me forever to beat Clay because I didn't have a pokemon that could take his hits. That is, until my Yamask evolved. He's a goddamn tank now. He only lost 1/4 of his health to a critical crunch.

    I should name him Sherman
