Are you able to travel between regions on the same character?

One thing i'm curious about is are we able to travel between generations/regions with the same character or do we have to make a character per region? I'm somewhat new and this question is my biggest.

You can Travel between regions with same character. When going to a new region for first time, your pokemons were sent to pc and you need to start from beginning there. 

You Can switch regions these city

Kanto -  Vermilion

Hoenn - Slateport

Sinnoh - Pastoria

Unova - Castelia

One thing I'll add is you need 4 badges in your first region to move to another. 

 

This means you have to beat Erika in Kanto, Flannery in Hoenn, Maylene in Sinnoh and Elesa in Unova

No, in kanto your need 3 badges or 2 It is in  Vermilion city Kanto In hoenn you need 2 badges is in Slateport City In sinnoh is in Pastoria city you need 5 or 4 badges in teselia is in castelia city you need 3 or 2 badges

no you need 4 badges in your starting region to move to a new region.
