[Implemented] Organize and Review the SB ToC

Recommended Posts

I know this is going to appear as nagging to a lot of people but I don't really care at this point.

Would it be possible for moderators/staff to go through the Table of Contents here in Suggestion Box and do the following (or some of the following:

  1. "Conclude" (leave a staff decision post) currently locked/trashed threads with a response and move to the appropriate section in the thread (current suggestions, rejected suggestions, etc)
  2. Move threads that are in the trash that cannot be concluded back to Suggestion Box so they can be bumped when appropriate
  3. Remove links you deem inapplicable and put those threads in the trash (if they're still in SB)
  4. Go through and correct spelling errors that are in the thread (a spelling error will mean that the word cannot be properly search via the command+F function)
  5. ...any other up keeping you deem fit

Why Am I Asking This:

It's no secret that people make duplicate threads constantly, and the ToC was/is a really great tool for lessening this, as well as informing people when they make a mistake. Simply telling them to "search before posting" is not a completely preventative measure. It's a whole lot easier to make threads have keywords in the titles and to organize them into the ToC when it comes time to search for a suggestion. Mods should be able to ask people to search before posting in the future, provide them with the original thread and link the ToC because it's an efficient method of finding suggestions. Not only is the ToC useful for players who are confused about the forums/SB initially it's useful for members who want to find a suggestion and bring it back to the staff's attention, either because it's been neglected or issues have come to surface that makes it relevant again. On an extremely personal note I spent ~9 hours working on that thread as I went through every thread in SB, renamed when appropriate, and linked the thread. I don't regret spending that time because I know it helped a lot of people. I cannot count the number of inbox messages I received with a "thanks" regarding the ToC. At the end of the day it makes any mods of this section have an easier time managing it as well, you only need to spend a couple minutes a day inputting new suggestions and/or moving suggestions from the different headings to other headings if one has been closed/confirmed/made irrelevant, etc.

Side Suggestions:

  1. I've already mentioned devoting a minute or two a day to move and catalogue threads when appropriate. I know it seems like a hassle but I think it makes things easier in the long run for both mods and individuals interested in Suggestion Box
  2. Maybe consider adding another moderator to the section. It did well with two before, and I am sure it would be good to break up the work (alternate between the task of cataloguing each day, etc so there's less pressure on one moderator).

Conclusions: It's up to the moderators of course, and I am sure if staff discuss this among themselves they will regurgitate the old "Why couldn't she just PM the moderators !??!?!" but I hope that doesn't happen and you can see that public input and more "side suggestions" could make this easier on the mods/staff etc. This thread isn't here to embarrass you, it's here to help if possible (both you and the community). Conversely if people dislike the ToC and don't think it's as useful as I do then they can say that here. I really hope anyone who mods SB (labeled mod, or GMs/Globals) takes this into consideration. The thread is getting less and less useful and it's really "fix it or toss it" time now imo. If you trash it then I won't be personally offended of course! I just think it's an extremely useful tool and would love to see it continue.

TL;DR: Maintain the Table of Contents for this section (SB), as it's useful to forum members (new and older) and staff alike.
