  1. PokeMMO is in need, to some extent, of more MMO features that pit players against each other in ways beyond the traditional battle system. I've thought of a way to accomplish this that is somewhat reminiscent of... Pokemon GO. Not joking. In theory, it should all be overlaid upon the ROM like any other feature, and should not require heavy engine work. CONTROL ZONES A control zone is fundamentally a small area claimed by a Team. Control zones span an important building or key feature. Examples: Galactic HQ, Rocket Hideout, Devon Corp, Silph Co. Should ideally exist within cities and not contain any wild Pokemon. There should exist about 3-7 control zones per region. OWNERSHIP AND BATTLING While in a zone, all participating Teams have tags and names in bright red. Visible to all players. This should be an opt-in feature. Only teams that decide to participate in the competition are affected by what follows this bullet. The Team that has the greatest number of members inside the zone claims the control zone. Battles are forced within the control zone. When a Team member is challenged by another participating, opposing Team member, the battle begins! The loser of the battle becomes "control KO'd" for 1 hour – their presence has no effect on zone ownership, and they cannot "control KO" other players. The winner of the battle experiences no effect. If you haven't noticed yet, this is effectively a plural game of king of the hill. BENEFITS TO PLAYERS The Team that controls a given control zone should receive a special icon next to their Team tag based on the zone(s) they control. For example, the Team controlling Galactic HQ could receive a Team Galactic symbol. It is highly unlikely that a single team could control more than one zone at a given time. Implement to taste. This awards a level of prestige that Teams are clearly craving. Have you seen the creative ways in which Teams have displayed themselves in major areas? It would clearly be loved by many. This feature would encourage players to join Teams so that they can partake in the glory. Teams appear to be struggling (or at least very eager) to recruit as it is. Give them one more inlet. Players are thirsty for a satisfying post-game beyond competitive battling. Let them think of unique strategies, even if they are cheesy, to tear down buildings! This feature provides a valuable role-play element for those interested. Imagine Team [AQUA] controlling the Team Aqua HQ. That would be awesome. Optional: Award all online players of a Team money while they control a zone. Perhaps ¥10 per minute. This could be abused. BENEFITS TO POKEMMO A satisfying, PvP-centric post-game is undeniably addictive. Expect player retention to shoot up after implementation. The streaming community is currently the primary conduit for the Pokemon community as a whole. The streaming community, incidentally, eats up features like these. Expect PokeMMO to see many more streams on Twitch and similar services. The attention to control zones would stave off thirst for future updates, including – you know it – Johto. The feature would be functionally invisible to those uninterested, rendering criticism pretty much nonexistent. Even if this particular idea doesn't sound like something you would want to implement, devs: please consider this style of content. Create a system that pits players against each other to create unlimited content!
