This isn't much of a guide. It's also written poorly. Is this for your first run? Because there are better ways to go about doing it, if so.
can you give examples of how this can be better? and while there "MAY" be better methods this is the best for noobs so they dont kill it and the easiest for them to do.
Snorlax tends to use rest quite often, so this method would take forever, and the false swiper might run out of pp. I would suggest paralyzing snorlax, maybe put it to sleep. If you put it to sleep watch out for sleep talk
and after 2-4 false swipe at the lvl i recommend using, snorlac is at 1hp and false swipe has 40pp. also rest heals paralyze and you can false swipe while hes sleeping. also only has 10pp so hes more likely to run out of rest way before you run out of false swipe.

ok so this guide was horrible im re writing it from scratch.
how to catch snorlax
ok so there are several good strategy's.
- false swipe. the importance of having this can not be overstated. false swipe is a move that always leaves your target pokemon with 1hp or more. what this means is you will never accidentally kill snorlax. good pokemon for this are scyther/scizor, farfetched, cubone/marrowak, breloom, fearow, and parasect. easily available to you the beginner is farfetched and cubone.
- another useful strategy is lowering snorlax's att. useful available moves are feather dance(pidgey), and growl (everything).
- another useful trick is skill swap/insomnia or vital spirit. skill swap is easily bought cheap in trade chat or found on route 12. when a pokemon with insombia/vital spirit uses skill swap with snorlax it is unable to rest making it much easier to capture. probably the best pokemon for this is hypno.
- pokeballs. there is no alternative to dozens of them.
- status conditions. if you skill swap then use thunder wave if you dont then use hypnosis/spore/sleep powder/lovely kiss, ect...
if your using strategy 2 you'll want to start turn one. after that use strategy 2(if you have it) then 5 then 1. important things to consider is crits. every attack you make has a 6.25% chance of critical hit which drastically increases damage. this is a good way to kill snorlax if you dont use false swipe. for this reason it's highly suggested you only use false swipe. if you are having trouble doing damage you can use moves like sword dance and howl to increase att or tail whip, leer, screech to decrease defense. it's recommended you have pokes lvl 35 or higher before you try. also if you fail to catch snorlax dont immediately go for the second. continue the storyline and come back later with bulkyer pokes and better strategy.
good luck

cool guide ^^ could you calculate this for victory road too?
i started but then squalls guide was partially deleted, and until i can find another list of the % and lvl's or find out my self (it takes 4ish hours)
i cant finish it. i will eventually finish all the common training areas (maybe the whole game if i get bored).

Quite the contrary, even though Larvitars are level 15-20, only levels 15 and 20 exist in the wild. The chance of encounter is not uniform but I do not have a source for this. It is NOT 50% level 15, 50% level 20, but maybe 80% level 15 and 20% level 20. The other 4 levels 16-19 do not exist. This is not the only example of non uniform level distributions for a pokemon in the wild.
i take this into affect when i calculate the exp. for instance when i calculate the exp of parasect from the from the first floor of cerulean cave i get the exp of the max(lvl 58=1060 exp) and min(lvl 49=846 exp) lvls and then multipy them both by 1/2 the encounter rate (12.5%) to get a number that i will using the same method add to the other encounter's exp and then divide by 100 to get the exp/encounter for the area
in other words pokemon A min lvl exp X 1/2 encounter rate + max lvl exp X 1/2 encounter rate + exp/100 encounters of all other pokemon/100= EXP/encounter/area.
also i am working on the rest of the game but with the disaster that happened to squall's guide, it's taking longer to find the encounter rates/min-max lvls i need to calculate the exact exp/encounter. -
when i am moving (in fill in the blank direction) and i click on another program (like windows media player) my character gets locked moving in whatever direction he was going before i clicked on whatever.

i got this message after pressing "A".
in the original no message would appear and the door would just be gone.

@Xsensation/pasht, yes i plan on doing all the common places to train and many uncommon places as well. @AzizFTW, were you using lucky eggs, or were you're Pokemon traded? because both multiply the exp given by all places equally. and @TeddieNessie, what SakuraHime said.
-
first off this is ONLY for wild Pokemon assuming you have already beaten all the usual trainers and have beat the Elite 4.also this is assuming you will be training for a while and not just 1-2 fights. also the exp given in this guide will NOT be the lucky egg values, if you want to know the lucky egg values then multiply the exp by 1.5.
first off the tangela patch, it is often considered the "best" place to train exp. the tangela's you find there are lvl 17-28 giving out 403-664 exp with a average of 533.5 exp. because tangela is the only Pokemon there, the average exp/encounter=533.5. now it gets difficult. the next on my list is kindle road on 1 isle. the encounter's are as follows.
- 30% ponyta lvl 31-34 with 673-738 exp
- 25% spearow lvl 30-32 with 248-265 exp
- 10% fearow lvl 26 with 833 exp
- 10% geodude lvl 31 with 380 exp
- 10% meowth lvl 31 with 305 exp
- 5% persian lvl 37-40 with 782-845 exp
- 5% rapidash lvl 37-40 with 1014-1097 exp
- 2.5% psyduck lvl 34 with 388 exp
- 2.5% slowpoke lvl 34 with 480 exp
if you do the math that adds up to a average of 544.3 exp/encounter.
next on my list is cerulean cave. cerulean cave is divided into 3 different levels (1F, 2F, and B1F) in order to save space i will just add in the results without bothering y'll with the math but i used the same formula from above. Floor 1 = 1036.21 exp/encounter, Floor 2 = 1113.255 exp/encounter, and Basement Floor 1 = 1068.71 exp/encounter. meaning that cerulean beats tangela patch and kindle road. floor 2 is the best average exp/encounter found so far. in other words cerulean cave > kindle road > tangela patch. i will do the math with the rest of the isle's and other popular area's. then i will edit in the results.
credits go to.....
- squall and his guide for the encounter rates
- psypokes.com for it's exp calculator (if only i found it hours earlier)
- MrMasonMan for the above calculator
- Anjoman for confirming that ditto's transformation's do not affect exp
- and callaway for talking this over with me
- Squall, Sakura and veganatidae

i was fighting a double battle with my fearow and golem, and used fly and earthquake. the target of my fly attack fainted and the game froze. in the original, fly would hit the other opponent.
How To Catch Snorlax (for noobs)
in Trash
Posted
i have had wild pokemon run out of pp before and even used struggle
good idea
most noobs don't have friends who have a smeargle with false swipe snore at low enough lvl that it obeys them, cubones however are easily found in the poke tower and can be found in the wild at lvl 46 in ilse 7 so are much easier for noobs to acquire
yeah but this is something we can tell them to look up in the forums when they ask for help
