novamaster0
I was thinking about this especially without the fully usable aspect of the game so far, I feel the game would work better and be easier to deal with from a coding standpoint to simply let the HM's be used as items (e.g. not having to teach it to a pokemon) given the prominence of HM slaves and everything, and the possibility of future expansions simply hotkey all the HM's to the 1-8 numbers. (0, -+, & ~ could be user programmed keys for abilities such as teleport, Dig, milk drink, etc. Link to comment
EXTYEX
Very interesting idea... but... How would surf work then? I mean, I can understand cutting a tree or digging... but traversing an ocean by oneself is quite difficult. Link to comment
Othienka
We are using a surf table/small boat. We would have to make the HM moves (infinite?) TMs though. Link to comment
Darkshade
I don't feel this would be in the spirit of Pokemon, nice idea though. I'm sure others would disagree. Link to comment
Jaiim
Just give pokemon "hm slots" that can't actually be used in battle, but will allow you to use map moves. When you use the HM it will give you the option to have it actually learn the move or assign it to the Pokemon's HM slot. This way you still need Pokemon capable of learning the HMs, but don't have to waste your valuable attack slots. Link to comment
Nebetsu
If you use a Gameshark on R/B, you can get a "surfboard" item called ??????. Using it by water will make you Surf. So it's clear that this was the original intent. They just decided to force Pokemon to need to know the moves to make things irritating for everyone. :P Link to comment
