Welcome to this fun and amazing community! I am sure you will enjoy it here. ^^

 

Best advice I can give is being patient and train your Pokémon to the obedience level (you can see that in your Trainer Card) before challenging gyms (not necessary but will make it easier). Get 6 Pokémon as well. The game is a bit tougher than the original games, which you will quickly discover - so think about training your mons and have a bit of a strategy as well when you progress further into the game (such as the Elite Four).
