[PvE Content] - Region Bosses

Question

As many have noticed, currently the PvE content of PokeMMO is somewhat limited, being comprised of Shiny Hunting, gym reruns, battle frontier. Overall I believe the general feeling is a lack of engaging recurrent content that upgrades the PvE experience of the game. 

 

There are some suggestion posts already hinting what I was bringing to the table but I think setting a clear a cemented view on what the Region boss content could be might help to set a roadwork for the implementation. Also, should confess, that the base template for it is something that already exists in another pokemon mmo, but I still find it could be absolutely great in here. 

 

 

Base Content and concept:

All regions have those iconic characters (whose sprites are already in game and some are even already in the overworld) that can be simply regarded as absolute bosses!

So why not take advantage of them to bring outstanding PvE content for the players to battle against and win great rewards!

 

The concept of the region bosses would be a list of entities (that would rotate in intervals) that would allow the players to search for them and to challenge their most powerful teams. As in typical MMOs, players would need to build teams to take into account the different raids (which in these cases are bosses), developing sets (pokemon teams) specific for PvE content much like your 101 mmo PvE experience! 

 

In terms of the bosses, they would have a 6 Lv.100 pokemon team with possible hidden abilities, high Ivs, EV trained and natured, following the theme of each character and presenting different challenges! Perhaps even, taking the great idea of pokemmo's E4, rotating teams so that the challenges are always changing. 

These bosses could be challenged only once per rotation (lets say for example each 3 or 5 days) and upon defeat would reward the player with its "loot"

Ps: The defeat record of these bosses could very well be inserted into the Instanced info where the E4 cooldown appears. 

 

Aditional Concept:

As a more engaging type of content, the boss challenge and information in the instance window could be unlocked by following a chained set of actions. 

Ex: To be able to engage in battle with zapdos (and for it to show as unlocked in that rotation on the instance window) you would have to first defeat Lt.surge's gym rerun, who would hint that a power surge has been noted in the hoenn region.

This would prompt the player to move to new mauville where it would find a berserked Voltorb that would need to be destroyed. Upon destruction and while leaving new mauville you could encounter Wattson who would thank you for the help and could report an electric bird fleeing from the powerplant there and heading to kanto. 

Concluding this set of actions, Zapdos boss fight would be unlocked and could be battled in Kanto's powerplant. 

 

This concept is much more complex and I bet it would be a pain to implement since it would be kind of a "side quest" type of event. As the suggestion stands, the first concept I believe would be easier to implement and the one that should be focused on for now  

 

The loot got from the bosses: 

 

From the bosses you would have a loot table that would consist of: 

  • Pokeyen (perhaps in the line of 10 K)
  • Battle Points (yes this could be a great oportunity to expand on the different ways to get BP)
  • Regular usefull items (such as tms, vitamins, x amounts of pokeballs, revives, etc.)
  • Boss themed vanities (with a very small chance)
  • Boss themed pokémon eggs (whom to stimulate the PvE content could have a slightly improved chance of being hatched as shiny: chances in the line of being a party member with a shiny charm so that the shiny economy doesn't get affected)

And this would be the main idea for the boss PvE content, I both the simpler version of it (without side quest to be able to battle the bosses) would already give much more content to the latte game PvE and would benefit from all the assets already being in the game! Only basically requiring for the "rebattle" event to have a new set of mons and with different rewards ^^

PvE is definitely in a need of revamp of sorts. There is no any real highest of the high level PvE content outside of E4 rematches that are not rewarding in the slightest. We already have a bunch of custom battle mechanics for event (and story) boss(es), I don't see a reason why it wouldn't be possible to create new, regular content using a similar approach. Either way, something new to do PvE side would be not only refreshing, but needed

We need high end difficult (and by that I don't mean grindy) PVE content. Daily reasons to log in would also be good, or new ways to interact with other players through teams and such.

Now that all regions are released it's time to make MMO exciting !
