Misfire33
Serious time #3: Why we're mad. You may have noticed the vitriol in some of these posts. Seems like them there OT'ers don't like their forum being closed up. Why all the fuss, though? After all, it's just an internet forum; don't these people have anything else to do but whine and post dank memes? Sure we do. I tentatively assume even the biggest NEETs among us have at least one friend, even if that friend is a pillow that we dry hump while crying about Witcher 3's downgraded graphics. We have hobbies, work, school, or virtual breasts to occupy our time. Thing is, this is the only place we really get to bullshit with each other. We might add each other on Skype, or Steam, or stalk each other at 3 am, but Off-topic is still our main meeting place. We live in different countries; different time zones. Off-topic is like the coffee shop in Friends, where we can all get together and fuck around--time delay be damned. We like it here. It has history. Granted, most of that history is stupid shit, but that's the way we like it. If a dude in a suit that looked like Drew Carey's evil twin came into your favorite local meeting place and put up a sign saying "no fun or gtfo," would you like that very much? If he came back and said he was gonna build a squeaky-clean, par-for-the-course Starbucks there, would you be very happy? It's a bit sentimental, but Off-topic is our coffee shop; our tucked-away bar. If it were something like the trade forum, we wouldn't give one-tenth as much of a fuck. But as much as you own Off-topic, it's our place. It's where we go for a bit of low-stress, medium-effort banter. It's something quite nice. So every time someone sticks their finger in the figurative pie, we get a little mad. A little sassy. When someone takes that pie and puts it in a safety deposit box for seemingly no reason, we get a little more mad. We want to keep having a good time in this coffee shop, bar, pie, or whatever the fuck metaphor I'm trying to use. This is where we talk to our dumb internet friends. Dumb internet friends are important, sometimes. HerpDerpBox, Bishav, SneaKyKhaLidA and 16 others 19 Link to comment
sherdoonach
just make OT 18+ and anything goes.. very little moderation necessary. hide it from all non members and members under 18. or add a dislike button and if something reaches 5 dislikes it gets removed (self moderation) Edited June 25, 2015 by sherdoonach Link to comment

Our conduct is hardly befitting of an 18+ label, and it would definitely look bad if a Pokemon forum had an NSFW section. :I Link to comment

DrCraig
I'm not one of them die hard OT guys but I do like to browse it when I get a chance. It's entertaining to read a lot of their stuff and talk about other games/tv/topics while staying in the community. I think the problem is more of an OT dudes feeling too entitled and going a little out of hand for a bit. I don't know how the section could be resurrected without losing its laid back feel. I mean mods are there to mod, and if it's your section, do your job and dish out the warnings. I don't think locking is much of a hope however, seems like a fire starter. Link to comment
Gilgamesh
I think the problem is more of an OT dudes feeling too entitled and going a little out of hand for a bit. I'll tell you right now bud, that's not it at all. Why should we be labeled as entitled for not wanting a perfectly fine and innocent "Best OT Posts Ever" thread being locked? That's what started this mess. We aren't entitled, it's really a moderation issue. The mods need to learn to not jump the gun. It's ridiculous. Locking a thread because somebody's feelings MIGHT be hurt. If their feelings are hurt they should take it up with the mod themselves. Like I don't know why we had to be locked out of OT for this. It's a moderation issue, fix your mods. Why are we even being relocated to these threads in the first place? So you can keep all of our suggestions in one place? That could've been easy enough with a pinned thread in OT or something. Edited June 25, 2015 by Gilgamesh Misfire33, Orangeslash, LadyMori and 1 other 4 Link to comment
DrCraig
I say entitled meaning it wrongfully assumed by OTers that they could just start shitposting non stop. After all is said and done there was just a ton of shit posting and complaining when it gets hidden because "yo why r u moderating OT now." Regardless I want the section back to read and what not, but some thread were like..off off topic. Link to comment

I gotta go back to my definition of shitposting, that being meaningless drivel that contributes nothing. We don't shitpost all that much. What I'm writing right now; this is the average OT post length, maybe minus a few words and adding a few more mild insults. OT is only shitposting if you consider shitposting to be anything not meeting an English professor's sentence structure requirements. Either that, or what we consider "normal discussion" is way below everyone else's standards, which... I mean, look at general. I don't think so. Also, off off-topic? Surely that can't exist, by definition. Edited June 25, 2015 by Misfire33 Bishav, Vaeldras, DrCraig and 1 other 4 Link to comment

You don't even know HALF what we do there let alone have a suggestion when we practically LIVE there. Not throwing punches at you but that just really isn't called for. We don't "shitpost" because how the hell do you even shitpost in off topic? Its supposed to be of randomness and whatever. You can't really "shitpost" randomness unless you consistently post repetitive nonfunny things that even we raise eyebrows to Link to comment

King
Can we just get an OT back that isn't a fucking hugbox? I appreciate the upper staff probably want it to be more child friendly because they want to make more money or something and I get that, anybody here that says they wouldn't sell out too is a liar. But holy shit why do we all have to hold hands and only have meaningful discussion? It's a fan made pokemon mmo, serious discussion can be nice sure, but stop taking yourself so seriously. Watch them not give OT back at all because staff are a bunch of man children who feel bullied. Misfire33, Orangeslash, TheGloriousWalrus and 1 other 4 Link to comment
Heimann
I understand its frustrating not having OT for now, but with the negative/shit posts from here & our other thread I doubt its going to make them open it any sooner. Maybe they actually will take our suggestions for a change and OT 3.0 will be good? GIVE ME MY HOME BACK YOU UGUUS DrCraig, Orangeslash and Misfire33 3 Link to comment

Emlee
I understand OT isn't much of a priority right now for the mods but I would really appreciate having it back soon. I just want to get back to enjoying myself on these forums - and it's not because I think I am entitled to that but moreso that this really came out of nowhere for me and I think it's been made out to be a bigger deal than it needed to be. So can we get these "issues" addressed now. It kind of sucks to realize this thread is just a cesspool for our posts (some of them are pretty well shit suggestions but still) and not at all a device for communication between those interested in OT and concerned moderators. Are there even concerned moderators ? ;____________; Pick a couple mods, do what you will with OT (clean, RIP threads, cry over our cute conversation), let us back in and we can work on whatever it was that every single OT posters did wrong this time. Can we just move forward now ? Edited June 25, 2015 by Emlee Plague, Misfire33, DrCraig and 1 other 4 Link to comment
EricTheGreat
You say that less than <1% of the playerbase even goes onto the forums, and I always see the same faces in Off-Topic, no one ever complains, and if someone does it is always the staff because the staff always has to have it their way, even if it is the bad way. If someone doesn't like a post they can report it and a staff can oversee it. I disagree with locking a topic because it went "Off-Topic", that is what the forum is there for. SneaKyKhaLidA
If they close off topic or make it overly strict.. staff is just making they're game even more dead as it is imo you'll lose even more players OT doesn't seem like much for some people but I could see a lot of people just never come on the website anymore or even log on. At to be honest these last few weeks the game has felt like it is already dying so inb4 dead game. Edited June 25, 2015 by SneaKyKhaLidA Link to comment
Emlee
I truly don't think that losing everyone who posts in OT would kill the game. I'm not even sure if everyone on the forums leaving the game would kill it. Misfire33, DrCraig and ThinkNice 3 Link to comment
