  1. My second suggestion I shall be making in this section. Ok, so being a CM usually means a lot of questions are thrown in my direction - (I must stress at this point, that it is indeed my job to answer them, and I am not complaining about doing so. I very much enjoy it.) As more and more users join the game, the more questions are brought up. The current solution to this problem is the FAQ tab, accessed by using H. My solution to this problem, is the Teachy TV; An item which existed in FireRed/LeafGreen, and for the sole purpose of helping new players. After accessing it, a menu with a series of helpful guides would pop up, with questions related to what the player wanted to learn; After choosing one of the questions, an animation would play out, teaching the player how to play the game in relation to that question. Here is a video example; My idea of course, would be to implement the Teachy TV into PokeMMO, but along with some of the existing tutorials, which could be read straight from the ROM, others would need to be scripted to fit around certain questions that would exist within PokeMMO. Such as how to fly, How to make Pokemon follow you, etc. etc. Now, another idea I had would be to have someone record a playthrough of the game, in seperate parts, and one of the Teachy TV's "Questions" or "Features" would be to play these videos in-game through the use of a built in video player. Again, I know this is all a hassle to code, and may not happen/would be a long way off. But I really believe this to be a permanent solution. Now to questions you may have about the idea: - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How will players get the Teachy TV? My idea would be to have your Mother give the Teachy TV to all new players just before they exit the house. With the dialogue along the lines of; "PlayerName! Don't forget this! Prof.Oak told me to give to give to you as a young aspiring trainer." -PlayerName Obtains TeachyTV- "Good luck Honey! You can use the Teachy TV by -Insert whatever method of using the TeachyTV is here- Oh! And don't forget to visit RivalName's Sister, I hear she has a spare Town Map for you!" This should eliminate numerous problems, the questions of how to use it, and helps those players who forget to pick up a Town Map to use fly later on in the game. And of course older Players can revisit their Mother to get the Teachy TV also, after that she will return to her usual dialogue, and healing your Pokemon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How will the Teachy TV be accessed? Well, my initial though would be to put it down on the bottom right hand corner, near the Game Menu, and also have it accessed via a hotkey. Either way, it is important that your Mother explains how it is accessed when she first gives it to you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please Note: - All of the other questions that exist within the TeachyTV could also be videos played through a video player, instead of scripted events. - The Teachy TV questions could easily be edited to help answer the questions that are relevant to the existence of PokeMMO at that time. - If the questions are done via video, members of the community could chip in, and help create them. (Again, down to the devs) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok now that's out of the way - One last thing; There exists a sign in Pokemon FireRed, and also PokeMMO in Pallet Town, that reads; "Trainer Tips: Press START to open the Menu!" Since Start does not exist in PokeMMO. It could easily be replaced with one of these three options; "Trainer Tips: Press H to open the FAQ!" or "Trainer Tips: Press (Insert Hotkey) to open the Game Settings!" or "Trainer Tips: Press (Insert Hotkey) to use the Teachy TV!" I think I've written everything down, if not - I'll add to it later. Let me know what you think of the idea. ~Darkshade EDIT: Also a better title name for the thread might be "Teachy TV - A better HELP solution?" Thankyou for reading.

  2. If you like it then please leave a like, thanks. UPDATE: JANUARY 13, 2013. As you may or may not know, yes, I did quit. After seeing that people are still interested in this guide I am beginning to feel guilty that I have not updated it. Thank you for all the views and thanks over the months, seeing some stupid thing I typed up being received that well and just getting viewed this much blew my mind! If you're going to be in the Sevii islands use Squall's guide: Link I'd like to ask that mods consider pinning the other EV guides as well since it's a whole different game from when I played. I'd hate to just straight up delete this thread but it's probably obscenely out of date and probably should be replace by a guide that someone else has written that is up to date. You'd know better than I would about it being informative. Before you get started you may like to know what EVs actually are. EV stands for 'effort value'. 4 Evs will increase a pokemon stat by 1 point, the maximum amount of EVs in a stat is 255 but the recommended maximum is 252 so you can use the remainder points in another stat. If you want a full guide and explanation of what EVs are you should check somewhere else like bulbapedia. If you have never played pokemon competitively before and would like to learn more about sets and EV spreads then I would recommend checking out smogon. They have all you need and more on basic cookie cutter sets. (Sorry for everyone who just cringed) Also, do not make the mistake of EV training a bad natured pokemon. For example an adamant abra. If you are going to sink the time into EV training, then you need to catch a pokemon with a nature complimentary to the stats you want. For example again a timid alakazam is perfect, as you will be EV training it for SpA and Spe. Here is a link to my preferred natures chart. The - stands for a subtraction of 10% and a + represents a subtraction of 10%. As you can see if you look at the chart timid adds to speed and subtracts from attack. You can also hover your mouse over the pokemon's nature in the pokemon summary to show what it does. I don't like to rely on that, though. Sometimes it's unresponsive. This is a list of all the places to train EVs. It will tell you what pokemon will give what EVs and where to find them as well as their levels. I will ammend it as new content is released. If you see something wrong, let me know. Even I, the great and powerful Galium-sama-rama-chan-san-kun make mistakes. Also, this is not a natures or how to EV train thread. That's another show guide. You would be surprised what doesn't give the EVs you thought it would (like weedle, speed what?) The recommended pokes to train on and the best area to find them will be bolded and highlited in red. Stat Recommended Area Level of pokemon Health (HP) Fat things give HP EVs and it's no coincidence that there is a fat guy sitting next to the pond in viridian. Before surf - Caterpie. After surf - Slowpoke. The pond has only slowpoke and psyduck, so you can get some SpA while you get HP. 1 HP EV Viridian Forest Lv. 3-5 Clefairy 2 HP EVs Jigglypuff 2 HP EVs Nidoran (F) 1 HP EV Snorlax 2 HP EVs Slowpoke 1 HP EV Ditto 1 HP EV Grimer 1 HP EV 1 HP EV Viridian City (surf) Lv. 20-35 Attack (Atk) Of course slaughtering hugging super kawaii desu ne bugs with big eyes makes you stronger. Why wouldn't it? And if you're wondering "Why paras?" it's because they appear at a 100% rate in the tunnels. An alternate area is behind the safari zone warden's house in fuchsia. Fishing there will always land you a goldeen, seaking or gyarados. (Thanks Tsriel.) Watch out for the psyducks, though. If you want to keep your level low for tourneys, you need to stay at paras. 1 ATK EV Mt. Def) Good news, everyone! Venonats came way earlier than I expected and now we get to grind on those! They give 1 EV and they're pretty common to boot (30%)! But wait, there's more! Ditto also appear in the same area (and the pokemon mansion basement at a 10% rate) as venonat so you can proceed to catch those in hopes of good natures for breeding (someday). The venonats appear on routes 13, 14 and 15, I recommend going to route 15 for the tasty dittos and close proximity to the pokecenter. After you get surf you can encounter tentacools and it's much easier to grind those than it is to grind venonats. And no, you can't surf into tentacruel until post game. Drowzee 1 SpD EV Venonat 1 SpD EV Routes 13/14/15 Lv. 24-26 1 SpD EV SURF ANYWHERE Lv. 5-40 Seel 1 SpD EV Dewgong 2 SpD EV Speed (Spe) This one's easy. If you're supereffective against ground go to diglett tunnel. If you're weak to ground and will die to a dig train on route 18 and grind on the birds and rats. If you are a ground type you can go to the powerplant, just avoid the magnemite and magneton as they give SpA. You can put a level 23 pokemon in the front of your party and use one repel to only encounter dugtrio if you want. Heck, even zubat has a use sometimes. Gotta go fast. 4. Strongly against the Roleplaying idea, but I won't go into that. The above posters are correct, it /is/ PokeMMO, and you should be playing with all the other players, however - with that being said, the ability to turn off all player sprites but those of your friends (With an ability to toggle the chat on and off, and only Staff members being able to bypass that) wouldn't be such a bad idea, and would actually stop a lot of lagg. Mixed feelings on this.

    All TMs Game Shop

Well the shop could be only made accesible after the league so it wont ruin the quest, for real competitive play you just need the tm's. I also think that this being an mmo most people come here for the player battles and trades as if they just came for the classic pokemon they would be dusting of their gameboy and playing singelplayer.

  7. Then it's not unfun for both sides. If you challenge someone then you'll have to deal with the consequences of if you challenged someone who was above your power. If you really want a system of checking if someone is in your league, when you challenge how about you see what badges they have? That way you're not being told their average level but you are being told what kind of levels that person can handle.

    Feels

Heres a feel that happened to me directly in PokeMMO It was just after I started playing the game, there were a few new players around, and we were only able to get up to Cerulean City, my Wartortle had just reached level 22 and I was looking for someone to battle at the Cerulean pokecenter. Then this one guy challenged me, I was ready to go with a 22 Wartortle and a 18 Kadabra who only knew teleport. The battle began and he had pretty standard low level pokemon, lead with a Paras, then Geodude, then an Abra, my Wartortle took them out with ease but then my worst fears happened, he threw out an Ivysaur level 21. I thought it was over for me, there is no way my Wartortle could take him out but I tried anyway, I use bite and do about 1/4th of his health, then his Ivysaur used Razor Leaf and my fear happened - Critical Hit. But my Wartortle survived with 1 hp! So I contiuned on throwing out another bite, he is a little below half when here it comes... Another Razor Leaf to end me, but it missed, I had another chance. So I gave him another bite and his Ivysaur was now down to around 30% hp, but how could I survive another Razor Leaf? Then my luck turned on, he got Flinched! Used bite again and he was down to one hit, I was extremely disappointed but wait, ANOTHER FLINCH, three turns in a row my Wartortle was spared and I ended the battle with a final bite, leaving me the victor. Since then I have vowed never to take my now level 100 Blastoise off of my team. tfw I could have told this story in 2 sentences but decided to write 2 paragraphs.
