both skarm and forretress are 3hko'd by pert with wfall anyway, so what's the deal besides flygon? The way i see it both skarm and forretress are tot not worth running if what you need is a ph wall, they lack a good recovery move. Slowbro, arcanine and venusaur can recover quite easily instead and that makes taking them out quite difficult if your opponent has a good core. The only reason why i like forretress is rapid spin, if it didn't have that i would have ditched it for an extra wallbreaker or a different spinner. Edit: I'll run some calcs on waterfall vs skarm cause i never did before, i just 3hko'd one during a battle 252+ Atk Choice Band Swampert Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 58-69 (33.7 - 40.1%) -- 31.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery + flinches edit 2: Also yeah, low kick hera totally shits on forretress, same for any machamp. + yeah, firepunch never was a big problem to skarm, so i can see it being a better wall for that.

1 usage 2 rapid spin I personally find forretress to be a lot more versatile: it can spin, it can heal with pain split predicting a switch, it can use screens, it can surprise magneton with quake...

nah, it can take care of forretress just fine with flamethrower

Consider that celadon i where you get the 4th badge, so relatively close. You gotta clean up vermilion (third badge, ss anne), get cut, go through the big ass tunnel to lavender, and then you can easily reach celadon by just going left. However it's mostly hats and a few cute items. They also cost a lot

Catching a few 31's is easier than catching a pokemon worth using to upgrade the one you're breeding, also no chances of failing. Also good 2x31 breeders are sometimes sold for over 200k, when 3x31 are worth more or less 130-40k. At least that's what i experienced.

Nah, as long as it's only a few of them go for it. As far as breeding is concerned, breeding for 31's is currently more convenient anyway, i'd only breed 5x31 if i had to Buying is another story

I get that, you don't want to make comps that you're possibly going to replace later on just because you didn't want to invest enough time in making them, makes perfect sense. It's just that variety > quality (to a certain extent), sadly you can't win anything serious with just 6 pokes. Having 5x31 is always nice, but breeding 5x31 only is imo not worth it when the difference is at times so marginal. I personally breed 5x31 because it's easier and i can't be bothered getting into absurd and risky breeding chains, but if i had to buy a comp i'd always rather get something like a very good 2x31.

breeding for particular ivs (31s) is more expensive than breeding for compromises, what's why stuff such as a...31 15 31 x 31 31 swampert will be worth as much as a 28 29 30 x 31 30 swampert, even though the first one is way worse. You're basically investing for a 5x31 in this case. Other than that, i don't think things are like you said, everyone i met could easily "see through" 31's.
