Wenge reacted to Rache in Battle Boxes for Tournament Mode and Matchmaking
What I suggest is essentially the same, but with some differences. There will be 4 battle boxes - 6v6 singles, 6v6 doubles, 4v4 singles and 4v4 doubles. If tiers are ever enforced in tournament mode and matchmaking, this number would rise to 12 - 4 for OU, UU and NU. A tier list would have to be included as well if this were to happen.

Back on topic, rather than placing Pokemon in these boxes they will instead be linked from the PC and the same Pokemon can be linked to multiple different battle boxes. Linked Pokemon cannot be traded until unlinked and can only be linked at a PC (see pro 2 for reasons), but can still be carried around outside of the PC. They would have to be easily identifiable in too, perhaps with a different colored background for the boxes they're linked to. For example:

If a Pokemon is linked to more than one box, it could perhaps have multiple colors like this:

Or perhaps a prettier method for both similar to the shiny glow in the trade window, as my overlays are rather ugly.

When challenging another player to a tournament-mode battle or using matchmaking, options will be given corresponding to the battle boxes. Whenever the player participates, the Pokemon they're carrying will be automatically swapped for their team for the format chosen, but egg timers will remain going. If the player has not created a team for that format, they will not be able to participate in that battle until they do. Levels will still be scaled down if they are above 50, and lower level Pokemon can be put into the boxes if the player does not have 4 high level Pokemon they can use for testing purposes if they're just starting out. These lower level Pokemon will not be scaled up, as per usual.

These boxes would not affect normal mode at all - those battles would still use party Pokemon and would not have a battle box option.

This is a possible design for the battle boxes (assuming that the player is in the middle of building their teams and really likes their Kingler for some reason. Word colors match the overlays used earlier. Assumes tiers, hence the 3 battle boxes at the top instead of one.

    --------------------------------------------------------------
    Pros:
Allows the player to carry Pokemon that they are training and/or necessary utility Pokemon such as HM slaves without sabotaging them if they accept a tournament-mode battle or want to challenge another player to one.

Allows players to duel each other and/or use matchmaking while breeding (egg timers still going). It would be a more enjoyable way to keep the AFK timer away than surfing in the pond.

This can prevent scouting from allowing players to prepare a counter team for their next opponent in tournaments, thus also preventing them from having an unfair advantage. Nothing will stop their friends from telling them what moves and Pokemon to expect, but at least they wouldn't be able to swap Pokemon A for Pokemon B in order to counter the opponent's Pokemon C provided that there was a rule against leaving the location (not including disconnections). That would only be enforceable though once tournament mode heals PP (if it doesn't already).

Players will not be forced to specialize in only one format as they will be able to use different teams for different types of battles rather than being limited to what they can carry with them. For example, Earthquake is a dangerous move to use in doubles unless your Pokemon's partner is part flying or levitates as it will take heavy damage if not. Players may prefer to use a different move instead in a double battle, but like Earthquake much more than its alternatives in singles. This can also potentially cause doubles to rise in popularity (as it is a very unloved format at the moment).

Allows people to show off their shinies and battle at the same time, possibly encouraging those people to take up competitive play.

    --------------------------------------------------------------
    Cons:
This would be a complicated system for those unfamiliar to it. It would have to be explained very well or people may not understand it. It will also take some getting used to.

Keeping the Pokemon linked to these battle boxes may require a lot of data in order to be able to find them each time the player battles. This can be fixed (I think) by making the Pokemon unable to be moved after linking and unable to be linked from the party. I'm no programmer though, so honestly don't know about this one.

Edit: Not my image, and not saying they should look exactly like this, but it was a good example

Wouldn't affect your movement more than the bike, and wouldn't show your avatar while using it

when you put your two pokemon in the breeders, you are shown which moves can pass and can choose which ones you want to pass or none to if you so desire. as it is now you have to delete moves (some of which are irreplaceable) to get the moves you want. if you could pick which of the potentially  8 moves you want to pass it would be much easier.

    pros
less noob threads about "how do i breed" every day
    breeding is more user friendly
    players will be happy
    less useless "breeding only" parents

    cons
    programming time
changing the breeding mechanics thread AGAIN
maybe you want it to be more difficult?
more confusion for the casuals who dont read forums/change log

I've had to use so many mushrooms and TMs just to stop unwanted moves from passing (by making a parent know moves that the offspring can't)... I support this. It's quite a nightmare breeding Pokemon with 4 egg moves too.

I'm going to bed, will update OP sometime while I'm at work because my work is boring during the winter and I'm a bad employee.

It's depressing to have to say this, but you were all right. After beta testing it this weekend I'm pretty disappointed. I do feel like they're close though, like, they had the right idea, and just went the wrong way with it.

Pros: One of the only MMOs I've played where standard melee combat isn't just left click, (I'm not an MMO veteran by any means) which I really appreciated at first
I don't have to walk for five hours to get somewhere for the first time like the console games
On high settings, the graphics are godly, like 32 in all IVs and a fifth move

... But that's pretty much all I can say for it.

Combat still gets dull and repetitive fast, there's almost no variation required when fighting the different types of enemies, and they really don't present a challenge. The loot system is crap compared to the originals'. The story is good, but they don't tell it in a way that's interesting to me. Quests don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything. Perks feel fairly insignificant and forced until you're at least level 10.

If there's a free-trial option for the official release, I'll give it another chance, but I'm not nearly as excited as I was two days ago.

    tl;dr, 5/10

Today is my second day of college in southern Oregon. Just pre reqs right now, but eventually a BFA and I'll be off to Cali to live as an out-of-work actor.

    Barrage says:
An alternative option to the current mechanics is to make it so that more than just one out of the four switches would be an accepted trashcan. Maybe 2/4 or 3/4 as opposed to just one. That way there is still a chance of failing but you're more likely to finish faster. That way it still contains the essence of the puzzle without being too frustrating.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a pretty tense game. It doesn't really have a lot of 'jumps' but the constant tension really start to work on your system. I would say one of the best scary games.
