1. I'd say a server wipe is supposed to be the last effort to save a game that's been completely rekt, and any and all options should be tried before one occurs.  There's probably a way to fix this game, and no matter how hard or angry it makes people I'm sure if the other option is a server wipe it'd be well worth it.  Even if the Devs try to fix it and can't, what's the worst that can happen?  A server wipe lol.
Deciding quickly on whether or not the economy can be saved is another option.  If a server wipe happens it needs to happen before anyone else has a chance to make any kind of progress to "minimize" the damage as much as possible, but the rage would still be god awful.  I'm on the fence because I don't know the in depth details of what the devs are trying to do to fix it, but damn being on this fence gives me a great view of the crowd of crying people on either side of it.

2. 20%

Even though ditto is the mother, I believe (I may be wrong) that the game will check the other parent in such cases.

It would make sense, I cant imagine a genderless breed trying to pull it's ability from a ditto.  I think the ability is 80% pass down from the mother is so that I can breed say a female wooper and a male eevee, and since species is determined by who lays the egg I can not have to worry about breeding two woopers specifically to get say water absorb.  So basically the poke that decides the species should decide what ability the child gets.
I could be wrong and haven't read up on any of the new information in the last few days but this makes the most sense to me.

3. Daft: "Once a proper guide is made on the subject on how to get comps (I'm not talking about 6x31s like gilians guide)".
(quoting like this cause I'm on my phone).

I plan to add many more sections to my guide, one of them being a more economical approach to breeding, so that it becomes a one-stop-guide for breeding.

P.S. I still don't understan how people see an extra "i" in my name =/

mfw old habits gilian
also that'd be great if you did. I love your 6x31 guide even though it's a confusing wall of math stuffs to me and I'm interested to see what you came up with.

4.

and dude I was typing this post out and then you posted this, +1 old runescape player o/
also lol @ RS3

I wasn't a player... I was a developer. I quit around 2008 cause I didn't agree with the next few years of plans they had.

I support your decision, buuuut this thread is about the devs and breeding.  Let's not hijack it with our RS talk.

I like how you mentioned that updates are sometimes poorly received on paper, but when people get to try it out they feel better about it.  Everyone's afraid of new things, sometimes the best thing to do is just wait until you get the chance then dive in \o/

5. But also the first wooper was a female

True, it was more a proof of concept.  You can look at Runescape's economy and see it too.  Armadyl Godswords were worth a huge amount of money and I can't remember the exact price but it was upwards of 50m(don't quote me).  Now you can buy them for 3.2m because due to lack of item sinks there were so many coming into the game and none going out that over time less people needed them and more people were trying to sell them.  This is what'll happen if 6x31s and other godly breeders are coming into the game but not going out.
Also the thing about godswords is still just a proof of concept, look for information regarding MMO economies if you're not convinced.
EDIT:: lol'd I didn't know it was HP fire, and the guy I sold it to said he was only using it as a breeder.  Rip spluuush.

Is it possible that the admins might have a trick up their sleeve? At Jagex we'd get tons of complaints, but then we'd actually put an update out into the open for people to try it and they'd usually like it.

But don't blame me for the failures of RuneScape cause I left before that really got started

and dude I was typing this post out and then you posted this, +1 old runescape player o/
also lol @ RS3

6. I guess I will say this, I am in the middle of the road as far as the breeding is concerned. It kills the Uairs in the game, but at the same time, it might be hard for newbies to comprehend. I like this system, but we need more guides before newbs can be interested in the competitive scene again.

Considering most of the people I've seen have learned how to breed just by reading the dev blogs it can't be that hard to understand.  Once a proper guide is made on the subject on how to get comps (I'm not talking about 6x31s like gilians guide), I think new players aren't going to find it that difficult.  The biggest worry I have is that old breeders aren't going to want to learn something new, and simply wont breed.

I think if everyone kept an open mind about this update the initial response to it would have been better, but most of the people I've talked to that didn't want this update had reasoning mainly tied with greed and fear.  Some are afraid their breeders that they paid in the millions for are going to be worthless, but that's going to happen anyways with pre-update breeding.  At some point down the line, if we aren't already there, there's going to be too many 6x31s on the market and the price will drop significantly.
One example of this is back in the day I bred this poke and sold it for a shiny nidoqueen and 1.5m
8LDg0b5.png
more recently I bred this and couldn't get an offer above 300k for it
5MPpXxZ.png
Keep in mind I didn't breed these more than 6 months apart in time from each other, but the market had become flooded with better breeders during the time I was gone and caused the second splush to be not even worth selling.  The idea of this isn't to show off my OT breeders or compare them though, it's to show that the ability to sell breeders for a high price has gone down substantially while I was away from this game.  Is that really the kind of game people want to play, where they quit for a few months and come back and everything they own had dropped in price by a large amount?
The pre-update breeding may have been more user friendly in the short run, but in the long run it is bad for an MMO.  Money sinks, item sinks, and all kinds of sinks are necessary to an MMO and I think everyone should read up on these kinds of mechanics before saying new breeding is an awful thing.  All games are hard to learn at first and new players to any MMO are going to have trouble, but at some point this update had to happen to guarantee that the future of this games economy is a bright future.

7. You're going to tell me that borrowing comps/breeders has the slightest thing to do with giving competitive stuff away for free? That does not make much sense buddy. When the only way I can help a new player improve is by sacrificing my own comps/breeders, I  for one don't feel like helping anyone at all.

Then you're probably just not being very nice.  Generally if you're nice to others they'll be nice back, so spread the love \o/  Also I have loads of Pokemon that I got totally free from people, or traded something I didn't need but they did, for something I needed.  All of them nice pokes mind you, and they mean more to me because they were gifts from people I look up to and not bought from a greedy merchant.
What I can see happening post-update is later down the road of the update it won't be uncommon to trade breeders.  Say you have a 20 31 20 20 20 31 and I have a 31 20 20 31 20 31 that you need.  We can just trade breeders, I can use yours to make my Pokemon and you can use mine to make yours.  Also these IVs are theoretical.  I can imagine there will be a price for specific types of breeders.  For instance a 31 speed 31 attack aerodactyl or at least in the same egg group will be more useful than the poke that I had, and probably worth more so I'd probably give you my breeder and X amount of money/items.

EDIT: This beginning of this post wasn't meant to say "You need to give all your comps/breeders away or else" it was just to say you should always /try/ to help someone, and when you help others you'll find that people are more willing to help you out.  Friendships should be an important thing in a Pokemon game, and are almost an MMO basic requirement.

8. Well I have to disagree with you on this, because even in the original games it is possible to get a shiny starter through soft-resetting. I am pretty sure many games have it in this way, where you'll get a rare thing by doing something over and over again till you obtain it through RNG. All old and new players even had the opportunity to hunt for shiny starters, so there is no disadvantage for any of the players playing the game right now. Well my motivation for this game was pretty much to hunt for shiny starters and alt-runs, which is pretty much going to be ruined by the new update(s).

Could I please get an answer for the following question: Will the new feature which makes gift pokemon untradable affect the current gift pokemon obtained before the new update? why/why not?

Darkshade specified that it would be a "from this point on thing" as we put it, and the post can be found here: https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/49267-daft-opinions-on-hoennbreeding-as-well-as-some-questions-and-thanks-to-the-devs/?p=963248
From my understanding it should only affect Pokemon obtained after the update, so any gift Pokemon you got pre-update should still be tradeable.  I think the reason for that decision is some people had already gotten a shiny/good gift Pokemon and would be upset if it suddenly became untradeable, as well as programming limitations.  It'd be much harder to set this untradeable flag individually on old Pokemon than it would be to set it to automatically add the flag to gift-obttained Pokemon.  That's my understanding at least.
Also I think Patrick is saying that the idea of making hundreds to thousands of disposable accounts is a silly mechanic.  They've already said starters are going to be catch-able in the wild, but to my knowledge nobody has said how rare they will be.

9. And I'm sorry because it seems like you're one of those that do but from talking to alot of people on forums, in game, and on ts. Nobody gives a fuck about the economy. The comp scene is the one reason i didn't quit this game after beating the storyline

I care about the economy.  I haven't sold a poke in months, I've just been giving them away simply because I can't be bothered to sell to people who are going to offer a max of 25k for an amazing Eggmoved, good nature and good IV pokemon.  I was right when I said I'd be better off just keeping them and giving them away, as now I have a handful of UT dratini and woopers, a lot of which are 4x30-31. I wont be selling these by the way, I'll be giving them away at some point after people figure out how to breed and im certain they wont pair them with a 6x0 or something lol
Also something to think about, remember how every time you go to Global/channel chat and you see a post from newbs on their story playthrough selling the randomest pokes?  Yeah you now have a reason to look at those pokes, and maybe actually buy them if they have the IVs/nature you need.

10. I second this notion. The choice of the gender will at least make this somewhat tolerable and instead of rushing the unfinished product, it would be completely worth the extra time. I mean we've been waiting how long? No need to be impatient now

I'm an impatient person and I'm on the fence about this.  I want to go ahead and get started on things and beat hoenn, but at the same time I think the release should be a quality update.
I second only because history has shown that a rushed game is a bad game.  Even though this isn't quite as big as a full game release like BF3/4 were when they were rushed I still think the update should be 100% finished and as polished as possible before being released.  I can wait another few weeks, but it'll hurt to see all the "Were is mah updaaaaatee" in chats lol.

11. so what's the tldr of every post here?

and can the chill pills be bought over the counter or do i need a prescription first?

pls respond

TLDR of all the posts I've seen, coming from a hopefully unbiased viewpoints, some people have raised legitimate concerns that pre-update comps will be massively overpowered compared to post-update which are completely justified fears.  Also a lot of people are upset that their 6x31s are going to be consumed if they use them, and all their hard work was for basically nothing except a trophy.  A lot of people are also afraid their friends will leave because of this update, which is making them scared of it.  Some people like the idea however, but since I'm mostly on the pro-update idea I wont explain this because it'd be all bias.  I'd rather someone on-the-fence or against the update explain it from an unbiased viewpoint that I can't have because I support it.
I'd recommend reading at least all the Staff posts to get all the information about the update you can before formulating an opinion, as they have said a whole lot of info that isn't covered by the official announcement or what we've said.

12. PokeMMO Motto: Just Play Not Bullshit but the bullshit is created by POKEMMO Staff see the post of the poll about the breed nobody want this new shit!! only few people like the 10% and im pretty sure that percent of people not lose nothing with this!! are nothing more than a selfish trying to justify

This is the kind of posting I was not talking about in my previous posts.  This contributes no information of value, and does absolutely nothing to further the discussion of this topic.  It's essentially rageposting.

13. Here is the whole idea, sympathy for the poor and making sure wealthy people don't run the game. This administration loves money sinks, so I gave them a solution that doesn't have to effect everyone just the Uairs in the game. Everyone with a - 500K budget can afford a 20K fee rate; 500K - 3 mil budget = 350K fee; +3 mil = 1 mil. Some people can try to cheat the system and get 20K for this brace and I am trying to prevent that. People need to pay their fair share of money and not hide it away and get 20K every time that is cheating. I tried to come up with a way to punish such people so that way the money sink can work effectively.

This is going to put excess stress on the GMs to track down and punish offenders which wont be easy, as well as completely ruin progressing through the game.  As someone with a 200k cash pile right now I can speak for the poor in this case, I would rather there be massively wealthy people than people quitting because they're being punished for playing the game.  This isn't the kind of game I would want to play, and I'd play pretty much any game.  I support sympathy for the poor, but this sympathy should be given my the kind and loving players of the community and not forced down the throats of the all the players..
Like I said, nobody with above a 500k budget is going to do this.  All they'll do is invest all their money into shinies and items, which ruins the point of the currency system completely.

14. How does a player even need to be in a team for that to happen? Trading, or better said swapping in this case is pure commerce, and teams are not any more helpful towards a new player than a stranger trade corner is. Basically the player needs to have something good to be useful to the community. No longer can a new player join a team, and get help to create a competitive base for his future, other than in the form of pure theoretical advice. This is going to be a letdown for any fresh face.

Remember that we're pretty much all fresh faces now to some extent.  We're all new to this.  I don't really understand the post, but I don't think this is going to be a letdown for any fresh face as people don't breed the moment they start the game.  Even in pre-update breeding from what I've seen people don't start to get good until 100+ hours in, unless they have some friends with amazing breeders, and if they do have said friends then they just have an unfair advantage that other players aren't fortunate enough to have.

(keep in mind most of my pokemmo experience was before the end of july of this year, and then I quit for a few months.  I have been back in game for about a month now, and feel this post is reasonably believable)

15. I am a beginner in competitive play, so it doesn't really matter. I do like the basis of the idea, eliminating Uairs in the game one person at a time, but at the same time, it kills the competitive play because people are way too focused on money. As for my reporting, I am going to try not to show my opinion about this because I want both Pro and Anti New Breeding strategy people to watch my video.

However, I thought of an excellent way to keep people playing competitively step by step and still eliminate Uairs:

1. If the player is poor, then let him/her buy the power brace for 20K; if the person is as wealthy as Uair, it wouldn't hurt to pay up to 1 mil per brace

2. If the person tries to store money on an alt for the benifits, the IP Address will be tracked and then as a punishment, the alt will have his/her money will be wiped if stored on an alt. (this is to prevent people from cheating the system and it is automatic)

3. Don't kill the 5x31 breeder after it is done, let it live, but, instead, make that pokemon reduce in IVs every time the brace is being used. IE: 6x31 -> 6x21 -> 6x11 and so on so forth.

I know this is a bit harsh, but I tried to reduce the other idea of a 200K fee and a death once used. These are just thoughts to be considered...

I dunno this seems like it'd anger even more people, myself included because you no longer have anything to look forward to.  You're basically punishing someone for working hard and being successful, which is a bad mechanic for a game where you have to work hard in.  I like the idea of balance, but don't think punishment for hard work is the best way for it.
Also this mechanic means that rich people literally have no reason to breed.  It'd be more cost effective to just buy the poke from a poor player, than breed your own.  In the case of this, if Uair wanted a super underground poke that no one else was breeding he'd just pay a poorer breeder to breed it for him.
Unless I misunderstood your post, then welp \o/

16. It would be pretty silly to make a game where the objective is to create and delete characters back-to-back until you get what you want.

I still think the game needs a character delete option, as once you finish an alt run there's really no need for that character anymore and it's a waste of a username.  From personal opinion being able to delete your character after X spot, say the 3rd gym or something would be better than just leaving it abandoned for perpetuality and potentially keeping a new user from getting the username he/she wants.

EDIT:: Also if this simply isn't possible due to any limitations whether it be with the game itself, or some other reason that's understandable.

17. I would like the Devs to explain how this change in breeding does not destroy the concept of teams, and make every single comp player forced to play a more individual game. No sharing breeders, but yeah please go grind your own things.

At the beginning of the game absolutely nobody is gonna know what to do.  The gathering and sharing of information will be very important in the success of individuals when it comes to breeding.  It's easier to gather a lot of information while in a team, and as for /why/ the team is important that varies from person to person.  I already played an individual approach to this game by not selling/buying things 95% of the time, but I stayed in a team because Orange helped me learn the new metagame and taught me a lot about the game in general.  Also teams are great for emotional support.  It's something to keep you going when all hope is lost, assuming your team doesn't put you down every chance they get \o/
However this is one guys opinion, and the more opinions the better.  That's why questions and posts like these are important.  They allow for exchange of knowledge, emotions, and experiences which leads to better informed community overall.
Also it may help to note that I watched a lecture a while back about the success of group thinking.  This kind of thing is why teams are still going to be necessary for players to progress, and even though the individual player may be able to provide for themselves better with new mechanics, all players will benefit from sharing and receiving the knowledge you would get from group thinking.

18. I think it's too early for this post to be accurate, and there's too much bias(assuming I understood it right, this is a pre-update vs an update that hasn't come out yet discussion).  We haven't even had the chance to try out new mechanics, all we have is a little bit of information from the Devs, and little to no experience with this kind of system.  That being said, comparing it to something that's been around for a year isn't fair to the new mechanics.  Obviously it's personal opinion, but I think this post would have gotten more /accurate/ results once the bias is gone and the players have at least tried out the mechanics, if not waited until there was actually a proper guide made on the subject and experts in this kind of breeding around.

Either way, flare how do you feel about it currently?

19. This took me 3 full days of catching to get.

2ytu3iw.png

By which I mean I only stopped to cook meals and do necessary things. So you're looking at about 14+ hours right there depending on the RNG. This was my god tier baby back in 2012 - one of probably only 6-8 on the server.

I'm not sure what the new standard for IV's will be if this breeding system is here for keeps, but I think people are going to be awakened to how hard IV's were to get for us 2012'ers. I'm not really  sure what I'm going to do with my 4x and 5x breeders, but I'm definitely holding on to them for trophies if nothing else as it seems each one of them is worth no telling how many hours.

I wonder if the catchMMO chanters will play now. I guess all you can do is wait and see what happens. tumblr_inline_mo11aqxWIM1qz4rgp.gif

it's not pure catchmmo now though, Noad said her and Rache got fairy decent pokes in this thread: https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/49263-new-breeding-sytem-devs-done-messed-up/?p=963467
still that's an impressive slowbro, and hold onto any breeders you have.  Even if they're failures by pre-update standards they'll be useful.  Don't be like me and use them to breed a 6x31 Magikarp the first chance you get :^)

20. I hope you don't mean consumed like everstone consumed.

Who knows, but I don't see it easy enough to breed when you start out unless you do some alt runs, or prepared to payday to even get the items to breed. Pretty much i think only people with a lot of money will benefit from it more in the beginning.

If all else fails I think people forget that most people don't get super into breeding right out of the E4 lol.  also noad has a point here:

I see there being a market in wild caught Pokemon with good IVs, people will want to buy them for breeding.

I didn't even think about this, this means anyone with pokeballs can make money.  +1 Devs
