1. No, disabling a feature just for a small chance that it might stop trading in Global is not an effective solution to the issue. See my previous message where Caracal and the other mods cleaned up Global last night and literally nobody was using it. The reason people don't use Global goes beyond just linking things in global. This also isn't an effective solution for reasons other users have already pointed out in this thread. Why would you spam your friends (Insert witty joke about why you have none here) I've been playing for two years and I have never unintentionally encountered the spam cooldown, nor have I ever intentionally spammed a public place(I did some testing on the spam protection for shits and giggles a while back, but I did it in a private area). This feature is there only to stop extreme cases where someone is trying to spam a billion and one messages at once, and most users can avoid ever encountering this cooldown by just not spamming anywhere. Wait untill your Channel/Global cooldown is done and you will never encounter this(Only send a message every 3-4 seconds and you can still see how long you have left for your Channel/Global cooldown without hitting the spam protection). You've been given a million and one reasons why trying to get Global back to how it was in it's glory days is just wishful thinking, yet you continue to defend this thread. If you want global back, go into Global with some friends and start chatting. Hell you could even start baiting to start a flamewar in global, that would get it active(see this thread for evidence that flamewars attract people). I really don't get why you're dedicating your time to shitposting in this thread when you could be dedicating that time to actually reviving global. Do you expect someone else to do it for you? I mean I'm doing this for fun and I've got nothing better to do, why are you still keeping this up? I guess your persistence is admirable, at the very least. Edit: Jesus what am I gonna do when the mods inevitably lock this thread. It's been good entertainment for the last few days.
2. It's weird as fuck thinking that someday I might meet people I know on the internet without even realizing it. heh I got a chuckle from this
3. sweet, we got something implemented I think Edit: This'll be nice since I have 12 side mouse buttons, and I'm currently only using 6 for PokeMMO.
4. Greenville. The Bahamas would be nice, but I dunno about the weather. Being on an island in the ocean seems pretty terrifying.
5.

I'm just gonna post this screenshot and let you take what you will from it. Caracal has cleaned up Global(Good job btw, I know that's no easy task), but nobody wants to use it. The only guys who posted any real messages in the channel in 20 minutes is the guy who could've just googled his problem, and the 12 year old who's mum doesn't know he has access to the internet. This is a good representation of what Global is like now, even when the spam is cleaned up. Oh and then there's LegendL's message that should have been in another language chat.(Keep in mind my chat is set to only show english)
6. Global is 95% spam/low quality messages. Channel can be about 50:50 on a really bad day(Depending on what you consider low-quality it may be better). Usually however there's plenty of discussion going on in Channel 2, and it's a pretty cool place to talk at times. Global however is purely spam. That's why people don't use global. Edit: That's partially why people don't use global. Other things factor in. It's also the amount of spam. In Channel you get the occasional trader, or a guy who's just straight up annoying, but you can block them and move on or switch to another channel chat. Like I said earlier, if you're having to block someone every time a new message is received in Global you may as well just switch to channel. People are already using Channel, it's already a nice place to chat, and the cons of switching from Channel to Global outweigh the pros. Also it's not the same as channel chat. There's the longer cooldown, the type of people Global attracts and various other things. I, and others, have already made plenty of arguments why Channel is the more widely used chat, but if you choose to ignore all of that then go ahead. On a positive note, I've seen Caracal is doing a damn good job of keeping Global clean. As you can see though, rather than people using the chat because it's clean now, the entire chat has just gone dead and nobody is using it. PS: Using the argument "Channel chat is as shit as Global" is not a valid argument as to why we should be using Global over Channel. What I did there, do you see it? Do you? :^)
7. There's a reason it's dead. It's only ever used for spam, asking stupid questions and trading(Which isn't supposed to happen). Multiple people have made this same point in this thread. If Global were really worth using, people would be using it. Unfortunately good features are often ruined by the minority of people who use them for the wrong purposes or in the wrong way. Global is one of those features. Like I said, if I could get Global from a few years ago back I would. It was great. Due to our current community however, having any kind of intelligent discussion will always be interrupted by message spam saying "VENDO POKEMENS 1K" or various other messages. The block feature does alright in getting around this, but when you're blocking 80% of the people who are sending messages in the channel you're trying to talk into(Which would be Global), it's easier to just move to another place(Channel/Team) On top of that, you also have the really long cooldown, which I agree needs to be in place to reduce spam in the channel. If it was decreased more people would trade there no doubt.
8. Then what about the other 14 people that don't want it to come back, and would prefer it remain how it is. Do they not deserve to have an opinion? Also yes you did say he was wrong. You said, and I've quoted before, that his contributions to discussion is invalid. Then why are you saying someone's opinion is 'Invalid' when they give their opinions on things? If you were really after their suggestions then you would be asking the question "Why do you feel it's useless?" rather than blatantly ignoring and suggestion that conflicts with your own opinion. brb gotta fight someone in game
9. He said, and I quote: This is a valid response, and he's right in everything he says. Why do you feel his opinion is invalid?
10. No. Okay I'm sorry, I forget that you need everything laid out in precise detail for you to understand it. ">" is the equivalent of quoting you. At no point did I say "Your opinion is invalid because I don't like it", I was quoting the fact that you said that here: This very clearly implies that you think his contributions to discussion are "invalid" because his opinion is different than yours.
11. Yes, in the sense that infinite monkeys on infinite typewriters will eventually produce an exact replica of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Wat. To quote you: Alright, live in your bubble where you feel like you're doing something useful. The fact is global is still cancer, this thread is still a waste of space, and we still need Off Topic back so our forums can have some quality content again. If people really agreed and believed in the word of TitanPawnz, they would be in global right now having meaningful discussions about weeaboo shit like we do in channel chat.
12. To answer your question, OP originally suggested this. I wrote my opinion on it here: https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/57572-make-it-to-where-players-cant-say-the-same-thing-over-and-over-again-in-chat/?p=1144667 Given that the thread has been locked, I'd say the suggestion was denied.
13. It would be a nice feature to have, and I don't see any negatives to adding it(Besides Desu taking a little time to do it of course). Like egg said, it's one of those things that should have been there in the first place but wasn't. This actually isn't a bad idea, you should make a post about it(If one hasn't already been made). I've often been in a situation where I fill up my hotkey bar(VS Seeker, Map, Fishing Pole, Other Fishing Pole, Repel Leppa/other item) and have to keep switching items in the bar. Also keyboards have 10 number keys, 1-0, and there's enough space to comfortably fit at least 9 hotkey slots on the screen, even on lower laptop resolutions. Since hotkeys don't activate while the chatbox is focused, I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be more hotkeys right?
14. >your opinion is invalid because I don't like it This is the reasoning of a small child. Also just because 15 people voted yes to an anonymous poll on the Internet doesn't say much. I could start a "Do you like sour cream in your icecream?" poll and people would still vote yes for shits and giggles, and to be a part of the minority. You can also manipulate polls by creating alternative accounts and using them to vote. Sure you got 15 yes votes, but it's unlikely any of them will start socializing in global in an attempt to revive it, so you didn't "convince" anybody. You haven't provided any valid arguments as to why we should move our socializing to Global, you've just said "Hey guys, lets all pack our bags and move to a more inconvenient place than where we are; Global chat!" It'd be cool if Global came back exactly as it was a few years ago. I loved when our staff would regularly talk to us in the game chats, and when all my friends were around. In reality though, that's the same thing as saying "I wish modern times were more like the 60s". The only way such a thing is possible is time travel. Shit happens and we have to move on and find happiness elsewhere(Channel 2 Chat).
15. Last I checked Win 10 works with PokeMMO, but there are some issues. Make a post in the Support Request section following the Support Request template provided
16. I still tell people that trades belong in trade chat if I see them doing it when I'm in game, so I'm still doing my part even though I'm not even expected to. Also I don't get what you mean by 'You're basically saying "I don't need to help anymore"'. Are you saying I have 3 choices: Drop my studies and real life responsibilities so I can tell people to go to trade chat all day, leave the game or watch you guys pretend to do something useful? I choose the fourth door, shitposting on the forums. Also, you're not doing 'work'. If you want to contribute to the game, get Community Manager status and moderate the chats. Making a bunch of low quality posts on the forums does not count as contributing positively to a community. Okay, this actually isn't a bad idea. This is how some companies do things; schedules and different workers who run different schedules to provide 24/7 service. You seem to have forgotten that our staff consists primarily of volunteers though. They don't get paid like they would if they were working for a big name game company, they do their job for free. So you're asking our staff of volunteers, who each have their own lives and things to worry about, to organize and dedicate themselves in such a way that they can provide 24/7 support team so that you can have a chat with pretty blue text. Edit: This is already sort of the case however. Our moderators are from all over the world, and different timezones so they each can be active at different times. Alright, let me rephrase. Global is not for trades, however people use it for trading. You're making me feel like I have to explain everything in exact detail to you smalls. Also, I wasn't given the power to mute people so something is fucky here. I'd recommend working on your honesty.
17. >reasons why we need Off Topic back Threads like this one. On topic, I live in Texas and it's terrible. I prefer cold weather, and while the weather in Texas during about December is perfect, the summers are blistering. I think I'd like to move somewhere in Canada. Japan always seemed nice too, I wouldn't mind living there regardless of what the weather is like.
18. This seems like a poor solution to something that isn't really even much of a problem. Due to OP being unclear in his original post, I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to solve with this. If you're referring to Trade Chat spam, trade chat exists for spam. While we do certainly need a better trading system, this would only make our current system a pain to use. If you've noticed that when you're typing and you press the Up Arrow Key it copies your last sent message, that's so you can send chat messages without going through the trouble of typing it out. This mechanic also helps combat auto-typers, making them near pointless to use. If you're referring to Global/Channel/Normal/etc., sure this hypothetically could do something useful. It would stop someone from saying 'vendo pokeman' 1000 times in chat. What this would also do, as previously mentioned, is ruin our current trading system(Unless it's set into effect only for Global/Channel). On top of that the implementation of this system would be ineffective and/or complicated. Would it work only for exact messages, so if I say "Ayy lmao" I can't send the message "Ayy lmao" again after that? If so then all I have to do is type "Ayyy lmao" and wooosh, I've evaded your system. If it has some kind of intelligence behind it and knows that "Ayy lmao" and "Ayyy lmao" are essentially the same message, then you start running into bigger problems. For instance if a friend of mine joins the chat channel I would say "Hey Ben", and if another friend joins the channel I'd say "Hey Sam", but your system wouldn't let me say hello to my friend because the messages are identical. It should also be mentioned that our moderators already punish players for spam, and with this system being either overly complex or really easy to get around it brings next to nothing to the table that we don't already have. Pros of this system: Depending on the implementation, it /might/ stop autotypers(Which aren't a problem in our game anyways) Cons of this system: Limits chat Ruins our trade system Depending on the implementation, it could be really tedious for innocent players who aren't spamming Our current system of limiting the amount of messages a player can send per every x amount of seconds already does a good job of keeping the spam under control. Also if you do see someone spamming, you're encouraged to submit a player report so that a moderator is made aware of the issue.
19. How new are you? I've done my part. I was(Keyword was, don't try and get me banned for staff impersonation pls) a CM not long ago, and I've tried keeping all the chat's clean and free from trading/spam. A rough estimate of the kinds of posts I've observed in Global chat's: 90% trading/other spam 5% people complaining about being scammed 5% quality posts No, no that wouldn't. If you need an explanation as to why, ask. I don't feel like writing any more page long arguments if people are only going to read the first few sentences then go back to their shitposting. EDIT: Fuck it, I'll write it for shits and giggles. I've got free time. That's a good question, why does it exist? The only thing it really does is serve as an extra Trade chat, and a place for people to spam stupid shit. It doesn't need to exist. I can more or less agree with this, but for different reasons. Yes, having more moderators is good, and Noad is doing a good job of recruiting quality CMs. No, the staff should not be dedicating an immense amount of time and effort into moderating a chat channel that has no reason to exist in the first place. Their time could be better spent elsewhere.
20. Global chat was one of the best parts about PokeMMO when I started playing a few years ago. There wasn't that much to do in the game besides breed, so socializing was a huge part of why I continued playing the game. Some of my favorite memories in this game have come from global, and our old Global crew. I also met a lot of really great friends there. That being said, I disagree that Global should be 'brought back' or improved. Our chat system is all kinds of fucked anyways, and proof that edgy teenagers ruin everything they touch. Our community isn't what it used to be, and as it grows more and more edgy teens will flood in and ruin our chats. We've already seen people moving to Ch3 because Ch2 went to shit. Before that people were moving to Ch2 because Ch1 went to shit. As our community grows, we'll see people moving to ch4,5 etc. as the previous one turns cancerous. On top of this, it's already hell for our moderators to moderate a single channel chat. 9/10 posts in Global chat are players buying/selling items. If the proposed solution of reducing the cooldown is implemented, that means more people are going to trade there and add even more work onto the mods who are already overworking themselves. I'd rather Global just be killed off. It could have been a great tool for beginners to seek help, and also a great place to socialize, but in reality it's just cancer in it's purest form because autists can't figure out that "VENDO TURTLE 10K" goes in Trade chat and not anywhere else.
21. Nice to see a new face on staff. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

22. Iirc this has already been suggested. What stops a player from spriting an innapropriate item and wearing it on their head? Where will these sprites be stored? What happens to the old cosmetics since they can now be replicated for 15k? There's also a major concern: This kind of system would make our game look like shit. In a perfect world where all our players were really mature, top tier pixel artists this would be great. In reality however most of our players are young, immature and can't sprite for shit. The game would end up with most of the players having some poorly made outfit.
23. He's got a point. A comp is something you work for, and their actual price is very rarely higher than 700k, if even that. To get a comp worth a signifigant amount of money a player has to know a bit about competitive play(Movesets, Nature etc.) as well as breeding, which means most new players won't be able to produce a 700k comp. The users who would make a comp worth that kind of money will likely be experienced enough to know that they should check what the price of their item is before selling it, or they might already know what it's worth. (didn't realize the argument was about wild comps only) Also, in terms of wild caught comps: Unless you catch a 6x31 perfect natured comp(An exageration, I know) that doesn't require any eggmoves, it's likely not even going to be worth more than 400-500k, and even then would only really be used as a breeder. I'm sure it's statistically less likely to catch a perfect wildcaught comp, which species doesn't require egg moves(Beldum, for example) than to catch a shiny charmander, and anything less than perfect will be worth like 600-700k at most. A shiny however is something that shows up, and their value can be greater than 50m. They aren't things that players work for in the same sense that you work for a comp. A player fresh out of pallet can stumble upon a shiny, and have no clue that it's rare or valuable. They might just think because they got one the shiny rate had been increased substantially from the main games. This is what leads to scamming: Players not knowing any better. I think the real argument here is that a new player can go out and find a shiny charmander, then end up selling it for 10k because some shiny trader tricked them into thinking it was worth less than it actually is. Simply saying "It's the players resposibility to look up the price of their Pokemon" isn't a good way of looking at this. The type of players this suggestion is aimed at are ones who probably don't even know we have forums. Telling them where they can go for information would not have negative effects as far as I can see(Assuming it wasn't worded poorly), and while the argument "It makes our community look like they're all scammers" can be true, but if worded correctly it can also show that our staff geniunely care about the players and want to make sure the players know where to go to get information. Wether or not this is worth dedicating some of Desu's time to, that's another question entirely. Edit: I still stand by what I said earlier, a trading system could fix this problem entirely and this warning dialog would be almost uneccessary. However my above argument was made only taking the OPs suggestion into account so that I didn't go too far off topic. Edit2: I like OPs idea of Oak giving you the message, however like 1% of our playerbase actually reads those messages, and with the rush that catching a shiny would cause I don't think anyone would read it. I think a better option would be a popup dialog, a dialog box that goes over the text box(with an OK button to close), or a system message displayed in the chat box. The message should also be short, sweet and to the point. Get the information you want to convey out there. Not to say OPs message wasn't well written, it was, just don't expect the target audience of this suggestion to slow down and read that much when they've got a rush from finding something they'd never seen before.
24. I wrote a really long post last night but ended up not posting it because I didn't want to start any arguments before I went to bed. A short portion about it said 'this is not a solution, but merely makes the problem apparent, which would probably still decrease the amount of new players who get scammed'. A later portion said this: ( A real solution to this problem would be a Grand Exchange-ish trading system. If you're unfamiliar with Runescape, the GE is a trading post where users can sell/buy items for whatever price they choose through it. There is however a screen that tells you the average buy/sell price of the item in question. A system like this would be perfect, because then users would be able to see how much Shiny X is averaging for at the time they catch it. ) I still agree that something could be done to reduce scamming, and this certainly might help it. One of the most useful things someone can have is knowledge. A screen telling a user where they can research the price of shinies would be useful, and DS has a way of wording things so I'm sure that he could make it sound more like 'We care about you and want you to know what you're getting into' rather than 'Our playerbase is shit and they'll scam you at every turn'. I'm indecisive about wether or not a link to VD would be acceptable though. Given it's player run and has just as much oppurtunity for scamming as in game, I don't think treating it as if it were an official source is a good idea. Alternatively you could just link "www.forums.pokemmo.eu". In the end the only real solution I can see to this is adding some kind of average buy/sell price listing, which would require the implementation of some form of trading hub. Originally I was against this idea, but now I think I'm neutral on it(Not that my opinion matters much). Other games have warning screens, some that come to mind are all from Runescape: The warning when dropping a valuable item, a warning is shown when crossing into a PVP area and even the trade screens in certain versions of Runescape have a slight hint to show if you're making a fair trade(I remember in Runescape at some point if you were trading two items/cash, it would check the GE price of the items and compare them. If you were getting the short end of the bargain iirc the text would turn red). A message box that appears when recieving a shiny OT wouldn't be that much different, and if it's worded correctly it might give the player the impression of 'Wow the staff genuinely care about me and want me to know where I can go to check the price of my shiny" rather than, as previously mentioned, the impression that our community will scam you every chance they get. >inb4 hurr you make all your arguments with "Make this more like Runescape" I lack originality or much knowledge on game design, so the best I can do is say "Hey that works, lets modify that and make it work here!"
25. This theme is absolutely perfect for me. It goes perfectly with my desktop theme, and the darker colors are a hell of a lot easier on the eyes for me. Pic below is how it looks on my desktop

The non-transparent chatbox was a bold move, and I think it looks nice. I might try fiddling with some things and seeing how a transparent one looks, but overall this is a great theme.
