[Poll] Road to leaderboards: Meta Vs Non-Meta

Hi im completely new to the game pvp wise.

 

I want to ask what's the best approach to team building when targeting to get on the leaderboards. I'm curious to how you guys do it, do you use the most common meta teams (I have seen a few sample teams for OU) or do you go for non-meta teams (like using uncommon mons for OU shedinja or dusknoir etcs). Any positive explanations help because I'm completely lost here xD

META: Most Effective Tactics Available.

 

If you are just starting a team of 6 "meta" pokemon is your best option and will carry you from low to mid ELO.

 

Once you have more experience you could start using some non-meta pokemon (but always having in mind META), and by this I mean you don't just take any random pokemon and put it in your team. This non-meta pokemon has to have an specific role and have to do well agains meta (that you for sure will face). This is known as a niche pokemon.

For example in one of my teams I use a bulky Poliwrath with assault vest and water absorb that helps my team to beat Rain, Tyranitar and Volcarona (if is not +2 already).
