  1. Although that would make sense for the main 8 since only female reindeer have antlers in December, Rudolph is specifically stated to be male. -Lyrics to "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" -Wikipedia
  2. Do they have to have certain genders? As far as I know Rudolph is male and the rest probably have specific genders too.
  3. You make some good points. It seems likely that breeding mechanics will end up being tweaked and perfected and/or changed completely again in the future. At the same time though, as far as I know changing some text isn't particularly difficult. I'm no programmer though, so I could be (and probably am) wrong on that. I suppose it'd be best to wait for the next update if they have no intention of confirming/denying a tutorial, although feedback would certainly be appreciated.
  4. I think I'll bump this yet again. The number of "my egg won't hatch I've walked for hours" threads should be a clear indication that something -this- different from Fire Red absolutely must be explained in-game. It's impossible to know what to do until you cry for help and someone tells you that you've wasted your time.
  5. Optional or not, it's still pointless. See the screenshot I've already posted twice for reference. It's also something that very, very few people would use without unfollowing later since they want their notifications to actually be important rather than whatever random stuff the people they're following have posted. The most I can see this being actually useful for is stalking certain members of the staff, and it's still arguable whether that's useful or not. If they reveal something interesting, the community can find out easily enough as it is.
  6. The most notifications I've ever had in a single day is 22. Trust me, not many people would be okay with having 1000 per day. They'd skim over the first 50 or so and miss the one that they really care about or just not bother altogether. That is the problem with this suggestion - notifications would cease to be important and the ones that legitimately are would be accidentally missed through the spam of every single comment made by every person followed. As I've said many times as well, some people simply wouldn't be comfortable with people following them, myself included. Let's also not forget how easy it would be for people to harass certain members of the community if they knew the instant a new post was created by them. A notorious lolcow posts something silly, and within 10 minutes he is flooded by mean spirited comments because everyone knows immediately. The cons completely outweigh the pros here. This isn't a major social network - this is a forum. The posts themselves are what's most important/relevant, not the people posting them. That is why we can follow topics and not people, and that is how it should stay in my opinion. If you want to know what someone does, I'll direct you again to this screenshot:
  7. I didn't mean to imply that you were a stalker, and if you thought I was then I apologize. I was implying that this suggestion makes stalking a lot easier - the stalker can see when a person starts and stop posting (figuring out their time zone) as well as the sorts of things they post (figuring out their interests and general personalities). People wanting to protect their privacy shouldn't have to block someone the moment that person starts following them. While personally I'm not that paranoid, I'm sure some people are. Another issue this brings up is being notified of things you don't care about. People follow topics that they're interested in. Using myself as an example, I follow the art contests and any thread I create as well as a few others. I very rarely post in off topic so I wouldn't normally see things posted there. If I start following someone who often posts there, I end up being notified of things I don't particularly care about. Yet another issue is following someone who makes several posts per day. For example, if I were to follow Dannnno I'd be getting a lot of notifications. He's been around for little over a year and has nearly 7000 posts. That's an average of about 18.5 posts per day. If I were to follow 3 people like him, that would be nearly 60 notifications per day on top of whatever I would usually get from the topics I follow and people liking/quoting my own. That is just far too many. Overall, people follow topics they care about, and if they follow someone who is interested in different things or makes a lot of comments they are going to get a lot of "notification spam". If you include the ease of stalking along with the fact that some people using these forums are young and/or extremely naive, this just isn't a good idea.
  8. This does sound vaguely stalkerish. Personally I don't like the idea of several people I don't know knowing everything I do and every comment I make the instant it happens, especially since I happen to be a girl. That aside, this suggestion is made a bit pointless by the ability to see everything someone does by clicking on "posts" on their profile.
  9. While something like this might encourage more forum suggestions, there still wouldn't be enough of them to merit such a thread. There would also be considerably less opportunity to provide criticism of individual suggestions since very few people would actually read it. The megathreads that exist are generally for things that don't really need as much criticism such as "implement this hat pls" or they existed for things that just got way too many individual threads made for them such as "legendary Pokemon pls". Forum suggestions wouldn't really fit well into a megathread since there aren't many of them and most suggested changes should have some input from the community.
  10. As for the adding of 50%, an honest mistake and I admit that I feel silly for making it. I blame the migraine. Anyway, the fact that 318 is the absolute minimum special defense Tyranitar reaches when in the sand is silly - it falls just below its usual maximum of 328 when fully invested. Investing in special defense with the boost can bring it to 492, which is nothing short of insane for our meta. I'm sure pretty much everyone with common sense can agree on that and that the boost being removed next update is a good thing. Anyway, moving on. Part of the reason making sandstorm shorter is good is to speed up battles - having text displayed about it every turn can take a while. It's a weak reason at best, but still comes into it. Endure/salac was merely an example of Tyranitar limiting team building and I was in no way pushing for it to be more viable. The main thing Tyranitar limits is other weather, and that is undeniable. Confusing players with slightly different mechanics with sandstorm isn't a good reason not to change them. There is so much in this game borrowed from other gens or just simply made up. I mean, look at breeding and hatching eggs. It's completely different to any Pokemon game ever, and people frequently waste their time biking because the game doesn't explain it. It's easy enough to change the description of sand stream to say that it only lasts a few turns since the game makes it pretty obvious what abilities do. Tyranitar would still appear on every team as it's arguably the best Pokemon in gen 3 OU. He's not exactly difficult to fit onto a team, so using "he will be easier to put on a team" as a point doesn't exactly mean much, and using "team mates don't have to worry about permanant sand damage occurring" is also not a good point as the opponent wouldn't need to worry about it either. It would be pretty much the same as it is now - both sides suffer the same weather effects. You forget that in gen 4-onwards there was a special defense boost and therefore a good reason to run a smooth rock. For Tyranitar, without the extra special defense that it will be losing next update, a smooth rock would be a waste of a hold item when it could have leftovers, a berry, or a type boosting item. There is very little reason for it to prolong the sandstorm unless you really, really hate synthesis, morning sun and moonlight. Heat/damp rocks would be genuinely useful in PokeMMO, but not smooth rocks unless you run a full sand team which is something that not many people can actually do successfully with our current selection of Pokemon. Overall, whether changing these mechanics is a good thing or a bad thing is a matter of opinion and I guess we just think differently about it.
  11. That's all well and good, but I'd like to see a good reason for sandstorm to keep the special defense boost and a good reason why making sand stream 5 turns long is a bad thing instead of just saying "it's okay, don't change it". The fact that Tyranitar would still appear on the vast majority of 100s teams even if it lacked sand stream is enough of an indication that it's an extremely good Pokemon. With its 100/110/100+50 defenses backed up by its monstrous 134 attack and respectable 95 special attack, It absolutely does not need the boost, and if you can prove otherwise, go ahead. As for an endless sandstorm caused by sand stream's current mechanics, the overabundance of Tyranitar makes running a different weather team incredibly difficult to pull off since Tyranitar can put a stop to that weather and soak up even a super effective attack with his current base 150 special defense (due to the sandstorm). Even without it he can still take a hit reasonably well. Strategies that rely on endure are also nigh impossible to pull off until Tyranitar's dead and the weather changed on top of that. If sand stream wasn't permanent, a Pokemon with endure could clean up once Tyranitar's dead and the sandstorm has ended. At the moment, Tyranitar limits team combinations virtue of his ability to cause a permanent sandstorm just by switching in. To sum it up, he doesn't need the boost and sandstorm doesn't need to last forever. If you can prove me wrong on that, be my guest. If not, people complaining about sand stream are completely justified. The fact that so many people run him and frequently bulldoze each other with him should be enough to prove that he's an extremely good Pokemon. Even if you don't see many completely sand-based teams, you still see a lot of Tyranitar on his own and he is loving that constant sandstorm. Slightly nerfing his ability while still keeping to Pokemon canon is in no way a bad idea.
  12. It has always slightly bugged me being unable to see it. I fully support this~
  13. This sounds interesting and I'm all for it. Anything that relies on effort rather than luck is a good thing in my opinion. I'd suggest having the increased shiny rates reset after finding one too though. The Pokeradar is a canon example of effort > luck, so perhaps it could be incorporated somehow too (but nerfed a lot).
  14. If you breed a Pokemon with better IVs than one of its parents, you're more than likely going to replace that parent with it. It's only common sense. The only problem with this is that if both parents are of the same species, you're going to have trouble removing only one of them. Here's why: There's no way to tell them apart unless you nickname them. If they've grown no levels or the same number of them, you're 50% likely to pick the wrong one and waste money and time having it returned to you. When depositing Pokemon it shows HP and level, so I honestly don't understand why withdrawing them lacks these details. To include these things would make it less of a guessing game if you want one and not the other. If breeding two comps on the same level with the same HP though, this still isn't enough. This can be fixed by showing which is male and which is female. Showing which one has a hold item would complete this, as it would make telling genderless Pokemon apart easy too since only one parent needs an everstone. Overall, my suggestion is this: Discuss.

    Daily pokefacts

Yes, that too is correct. The karp that climbed a waterfall and transformed into a dragon. It's from Chinese Mythology.
  16. Rache

    Daily pokefacts

This is actually completely wrong. Dratini, Dragonair and Dragonite were dragon types. Gyarados was made water/flying because it would have no weaknesses (since the only dragon type move was dragon rage) if it were water/dragon and it would just be too overpowered.
  17. I support this. Mostly for breeding though because literally nobody not on the forums knows how to do it unless someone tells them. They just bike around and their egg never hatches.
  18. Removing part of the fence sounds like a good solution and doesn't require any new tiles. Low level players can't get there any earlier than they otherwise could since they'd still need surf. With the insane Tentacool encounter rate, this would save a lot of trouble and money (for repels).
  19. It sounds like an interesting idea, but not something that many people would use. Perhaps if it allowed 2 Dittos to produce a Ditto egg it'd be useful, but aside from that I don't see much of a point to it to be honest.
  20. Different Pokeball images were added to Pokemon that were caught after the last major update, so the game already knows which ball those Pokemon were caught in (unlike the ones caught before the update that were put in regular Pokeballs). Even if it weren't the case, Pokemon caught after this hypothetical update would emerge in Safari Balls and therefore be obviously lacking egg moves. Although breeding for good IVs is usually easier for rarer Pokemon, there is always the chance of making a lucky catch and sticking with it or using a Chansey that was caught while hunting for lucky eggs - people catch a lot of them and so inevitably there will be some really good ones among them. Some of the more common Pokemon in there like Rhyhorn are easier to hunt than to breed since they're... Well, common. Rhydon doesn't need megahorn to be viable (although it does help) but in 50s, a Safari Ball would mean that it doesn't have the move, thus making it less of a threat against certain Pokemon.
  21. Aromatherapy is a good move on Blissey, but not everyone who uses Blissey has a need for the move and the same goes for Dragon Dance/Extremespeed on Dragonite. Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Blissey, Dragonite and probably others can function without egg moves. (Tauros doesn't count since it's 100% male)
  22. This suggestion is created with the assumption that eventually Pokemon will be shown emerging from Pokeballs instead of simply appearing. If this happens in a future update, it will come with a side effect of easy prediction. If a Pokemon that can be caught in the Safari Zone emerges from a Safari Ball, it is a sure sign that the Pokemon was caught in the wild and therefore does not have any egg moves, thus making it easier to predict. This will be a big problem if it is allowed to happen. There are two easy solutions to this. Allow Safari Balls to be purchased from the Safari Zone or Fuschia City Pokemart. Safari Balls have the same catch rate as great balls, so adding them to the game as purchasable items for equal or greater price (because keeping leftover balls after a Safari visit would make them too cheap. $500 for 30 great balls is just silly) would not be game breaking and would allow a player breeding the Pokemon to select that Pokeball for their eggs to cover the fact that their baby Safari Pokemon has egg moves to try to trick their opponent, as well as making Pokemon already caught in Safari Balls not able to be automatically assumed to have none. All war is deception after all. Allow Pokemon to be moved to different Pokeballs. If a Pokemon emerges from a Safari Ball, it can still be assumed to have been caught wild. However, if that Pokemon could have its Pokeball swapped, it wouldn't be obvious anymore - the player could cover up that fact by putting it in a different Pokeball, either by NPC or by themselves. The old ball would break, stopping this from being abusable (using higher quality balls then getting them back in exchange for cheaper ones). This would also give already-bred Pokemon an opportunity to be moved to a Safari Ball to add to the facade of being caught wild. This would also be nice for other players if they happen to prefer or dislike certain Pokeballs. To do either or both of these things would add another layer of prediction as well as preventing Pokemon from being easily predicted because the opponent knows for sure that the Pokemon has no egg moves due to something completely out of the player's control. With Safari Balls being exclusive to Pokemon caught in the wild, some of those Pokemon will be very disadvantaged because the opponent can easily guess their set or know not to fear a certain egg move before that Pokemon has even done anything. Discuss.
  23. NPCs... Whenever they talk, any key that scrolls through their text doesn't work in the chat box and instead advances their dialogue until it's finished. This often resulting in talking to them again by accident while trying to get them to stop talking as quickly as possible in order to be able to reply to someone. For example, if your A or B key is space bar and you try to use the chat box during NPC dialogue, yourtypingwilllooklikethis and the NPC's dialogue will continue; essentially using the move snatch every time you try to use the key A and/or B are bound to. Regardless of what your A and B keys are, during long or frequent sections of dialogue such as the end of the Elite Four or healing at a Pokemon Center, this can be a hassle at times. During a battle the chat box works completely, so why not during NPC dialogue? Basically what I'm suggesting is to give the chat box priority when it's clicked - being able to properly type in it while the NPC patiently waits mid-sentence, then clicking out of the chat box to let him/her continue. This is a pretty minor issue, but to remove an annoyance is never a bad thing and adds more polish to the game. Pros: Would make NPC dialogue less of a hassle/interruption. Cons: None that I can think of. NPCs are robots (since they repeat the same phrases over and over) and therefore have no feelings. Discuss.
  24. This finishes on my birthday, which for some reason motivates me. I'm not sure which one I'll draw, but I'm in~ Trying to copy the art style of Ken Sugimori isn't exactly original though, and shouldn't be prioritized in judging since it's... Well, copying, even if it's different parts of different Pokemon. Considering the type of contest given that it's pokemon creation, it's not necessarily a bad thing to promote or encourage Sugimori-style artwork, but to essentially punish uniqueness of style is definitely a bad thing. To judge them equally would be the best way to go in my opinion. Regardless, I'll still participate of course even if it kinda irks me, but for an art contest this really shouldn't be a thing.
  25. This sounds like fun. I'm in~ I love that there's a second prize too. (Otherwise I just feel bad if I happen to win...) Do the images have to be a certain aspect ratio? (Square I presume. If so, 125x125 or is any size okay?) Can each person enter only once or once for all 3 staff members? If the latter, are there actually 6 prizes or are 2 overall winners chosen? Is proof required? A month might be a bit too long as well... Art doesn't take more than a few hours usually (my longest was 26 hours). It's mostly procrastination and wanting to see other entries first that makes people enter during the last few days, not that it actually takes that long~
