Finally managed to upload my best Glasgow Regionals match in swiss round 3, vs Jamie Kean. We were both 2-0 at the time.

That looked really grim. During the game I really wondered how you managed to win that. First I thought he might not have brought kyogre, but then I realized he simply didn't double target xerneas in the end. I guess that wasn't really the obvious play for him, since if you protected, he would have 1/3 chance of losing if he did double target you. I still think it was by the only right move from him, though. Nice game.

  2. No way man, out of all the matches yesterday you were my toughest opponent. If I was more focused I could have won the two games I lost, but you got a bit unlucky and lost the match to me

Well, the poll was quite unfair from the start, since I didn't add LordOfAngmar. It was actually a cover-up for deciding whether Jice or I should become gym leader, but he insisted, so it didn't even matter. Also, several good players (such as yourself) joined the team after the poll was made.

  3. That would be nice and all, but it doesn't solve the problem of Mean Look / Block / Spider Web into one of the moves you mentioned above. Also, these moves are inherently broken in Metronome and only function to reduce the competitiveness of the tier (the little bit that there actually is). It's a guaranteed GG to force something to Struggle and imo this shouldn't be a plausible way to win a match for a Clef Cup.

This would need some proper analysis to assert, since there is no way to tell a priori whether trap + struggle inducing move is less competitive than OHKO moves or memento. About 3/350 moves are trapping moves, while about 3/350 are struggle inducing moves (not counting torment because it's only struggle every other turn.) You would first need to trap the opponent, which has less than 1% chance of happening every turn, and then use a struggle inducing move, again less than 1% chance of happening every turn. Not to mention you can get out of the trap if either player uses a switching move like whirlwind or baton pass, which is more likely than using a struggle inducing move. In fact, if the player who is trapped uses a struggle inducing move, the opponent is also forced to switch out, breaking the trap. By your reasoning, we should probably also ban toxic and perish song, since they are very strong together with trapping. If there is anything uncompetitive here, it's the trapping moves, not the struggle inducing moves. Because, even if you have only one pokemon left and can't switch and the opponent uses a struggle inducing move, that is still just about three times as likely as you killing your opponent with a OHKO move, which is about the same chance that your opponent will kill himself with memento. Another thing, removing struggle inducing moves makes switching even less of a likely option, removing the "skill level" in clefairy cup even more.

Btw, this was not a proper analysis to disprove your assertion, but merely information that should make it clear why you assertion is non-obvious, if at all true.

  4. This is the third time in a very short period of time this thread has been made. And as I mentioned in the first thread, I don't see the point in preventing moves like taunt when we get the move deleter. The move deleter is a feature that benefits the game in several ways (sleep talk + whirlwind is a known gimmick,) and in particular it solves every problem with the current clefairy cup. You get taunted? Struggle or switch out. You get disabled? Struggle or switch out. You get imprisoned? Struggle or switch out. You get tormented? Struggle or switch out. Really, if we could just have pokemon knowing metronome as their only move, everthing would be so much simpler.

Tl;dr: Give us the move deleter already

  5. Didn't want to say anything, but everybody who wants to win this are not saying a word, because the more attention this gets, the smaller are the chances of winning. Fred is not even trying, since he is just giving away hints to the rest of us as well as all his posts being invalid entries. I just wanted to say, if you think xela only posted one letter, you might not have the best chances of winning anyways.

  6. Here is a recreation. First an example of how protect can be succesful:

    Then how it can fail:

Interestingly, protect is also supposed to fail if it's the last move used in a turn, so there is another bug here. In the first example, the protect should fail because I made a switch. In the second example the same should happen, but because of the bug, it should instead be succesful because the last turn was not a succesful protect. Hopefully that makes sense.

  7. What is the reasoning behind 3v3? Just because people don't have the pokemon? Because from a competitive perspective, I imagine 3v3 being a lot more match-up based than say 6v6. Also, seeing as doubles is a completely different format than singles, the same pokemon are probably not viable there, hence meaning LC doubles would require you to make an entirely new set of pokemon. I would probably settle on one standard metagame, like 6v6 singles, rather than making so many completely different ones. Just my thought.

  8. How it currently is: If you get flinched on the turn after you used protect and you attempt to use protect on the following turn, there is a chance that the protect might fail because the game thinks you just used protect succesfully.

How it should be: The flinch turn should be counted as the last turn, and since protect can not be used succesfully on the turn you flinch, it should not have a chance to fail on the following turn.

  9. Added Keith's catching win to the accolades. Nice job to JIce too, but I won't add 3rd palces. Please tell me if there is something you want to see included in the OP. I think we need a new team picture, for one. Also, the last reserve is going to be used for our gym when that opens.

  10. lel tbh i hadn't even seen those. Still, dont see the harm in playing it out, even if the prize for 3rd place is underwhelming (chances are the 4th place manager will get his manager spot back anyways if he/she wants it). Also, it was me behind the scenes that secured the 3rd place matchup this year despite orange's protest. I really just wanted a shot at undefeated spaint - i blew it, but at least i had the chance

The only harm in playing it out is that when I ask somebody when their match is and I get the reply "I don't care, it doesn't matter" I know that game is going to be half-assed and not worth watching. Half of PSL is being a spectator, and the 3rd place match is hardly worth watching, and everybody knew this from the beginning. Of course I could understand that as a manager it would be cool to win and get to play the next season, but when players don't care it makes for some bad games. I don't want to blame anybody for anything, I just wanted to express that I don't think there is a point in having a 3rd place match next season, for the sake of the spectators.
