It voids individual bets. Like I wouldn't win my 500k on mihawk if he got an activity win over kanzo, but activity wins have never made a difference on team bets.

All activity win bets are void

I don't see why this would not include team bets. It's really common sense too that whenever an activity decision is involved that the bet get canceled. It doesn't say individual bets.

Along with this last point, teams that have no chance of winning it all are clearly identified by week 5. The shit teams will give up, hype will die, and the records will be skewed.

I had an idea that might be able to fix this huge issue that kills the hype every season. Instead of having 6 teams going to playoffs, all 8 teams would be going. However, the odds of a team going further in the playoff bracket would be directly affected by how they placed during regular season. Assuming we keep the current playoff system where the best team faces the worst team and assuming we have 10 tiers, the first ranked team would have a 3 wins lead on the eighth ranked team during the quarter-finals. For instance, here is what the quarterfinals would look like at the begining of the week:

    Spoiler

Schwifty Shiftrys (0) vs The Boosted Monkeys (3)
The Gain Train (0) vs The Flocking Buzzwoles (2)

The Hungry Salamences (0) vs The Driftveil Dragonites (1)

The Brave Blazikens (0) vs The Machoke Artists (0)

Schwifty would have to forfeit in 3 tiers, Gain Train would have to forfeit 2 tiers and Salamences would have to forfeit 1 tier.  Forfeiting means that you simply give up on the win in a specific tier. If your roster sucks in UU and the opposing roster looks great in UU, that's the tier that you would just give up on. This also means that Monkeys only need to win 3 out of the 7 remaining tiers while Schwifty Shiftrys need to win 6 out of the 7 remaining tiers. It might seem like a huge advantage to some to have a 3 wins headstart in a week, but it is actually a huge nerf compared to what we have now where the first team is already qualified for semi-finals.

The regular season would get better because every single team would have to fight to improve how they placed. Even the team being last would have a big incentive to keep fighting. The PSL season as a whole would also not last any longer than now.

  3. Gonna copy paste my old PSL critique here:

    The Drafting System

The drafting system is completely flawed; the assumption that the sum of the 1st pick and 16th pick is equivalent to the sum of the 7th pick and 10th pick only works in theory. Sure, 1 + 16 = 17 and 7 + 10 = 17 as well, but that logic doesn’t apply to how players are valued in PSL. Depending on their relationship with players, some managers will value the first picks more than others. For that reason, whoever ends up with the first pick is in a great bargaining position. In PSL season 7, Tor got arbitrarily the first pick and through trades was able to end up with the 5th and 9th picks: 5 + 9 = 14 < 17. That was undeniably a huge advantage. Some might believe that Tor was able to accomplish this thanks to his trading skills, but now that DoubleJ accomplished the same thing in this season, it should be quite clear that the drafting system is not fair and quite uncompetitive. It would be therefore better to either remove or rework the current drafting system.

    Sign Up Bias

Sign up bias is an issue that season after season fails to be addressed by the PSL administration. This season it was blatant when Nik signed up couples of minute after DoubleJ got the midseason first pick. Coolio told me himself that Nik would not sign up for midseason unless he traded the first pick to JJ. This is not uncommon and not against PSL rules either, so no one is in the wrong here. It is however very unfair and should be corrected for future seasons by locking down sign ups before any trading between managers is allowed.

We also saw Axoa signing up and claiming he would not be very active in order to end up in the team he wanted and yet has been very active every week. This doesn’t break any psl rule, but it is also quite unfair because picking Axoa is a risk for every manager except for Yubel.

It is also not right to watch players compete in tiers in which they did not sign up. Having signed up in no tiers, I was free to refuse playing for JJ since he could not force me to play in a tier in which I did not sign up. We see players like Orange signing up only in Dubs/SMOU and now playing UU/OU. We see players like Raaidn playing NU and yet not signing up in NU. We see players like DestructX signing up only in NU, but playing in UU. If a manager needs a UU player, picking DestructX would be a risk unless you have a prior relationship with him. I’m not trying accuse anyone of anything or calling people out, I just strongly believe that this is once again unfair. Players should only be able to play in the tiers they signed up in, so that managers are on an equal playing field during the auction/draft.

    Extension Phobia

No extensions is the best way to ensure players can’t abuse extensions to their benefit. I get it, but sometimes shit happens; MMO players live different lifestyles, don’t have the same schedules or time zones. Sometimes, players are simply genuinely not capable of finding a right time to face off. We shouldn’t look the other way and ignore the problem with this easy “no extension” fix. We want players to fight. Extensions were exploited in the past because they were not properly regulated, but that doesn’t have to be the case. With an open discussion regarding extensions and activity calls in general, I don’t see why we could not come to a decent solution that would improve the PSL event as a whole.

    Showdown tiers

Smogon tiers get way too much representation each season despite the fact that we simply don’t have enough players willing to invest the time and effort needed to compete at high level in the smogon tiers. Even though it takes less effort to play on Showdown since no grind is involved, we end up with incredibly low skill duels in these tiers each season. The good showdown players should ideally not be divided in two tiers, so that they can compete against each other.

Managers dont get to play, been a rule for 8 seasons idk we would change it now... if you wanna play then play, if you wanna manage do the as the title says... manage imo

Proposing a new change for doubles to counter all this cancer crap you nubs are spewing

    Hearthstone style:

You and your opponent face off game 1 with whatever team you select, winner keeps his team, loser gets to change. First player to get (insert number here, probably 2 or 3) wins takes the series

    Pros

    - Provides an advantage for taking a diverse team

    - Winner of round 1 gets an advantage moving forward

    - Loser of round 2 is not completely out of the series, and can hard-counter the opponents first team but risks being hard countered in return

    - Better indicator of skill

    Cons

-May mean more doubles games, but seeing as they usually last less than the typical OU and UU games that isnt a problem

    - GBs head might explode (pro?)

    ...

Everyone wants Dubs players to not change teams. If it was feasible it would already be that way. The hearthstone format is cool, but it doesn't fix our problem u fool.

well I'm sure comp ability would suddenly become a criteria for those selecting managers, if they were to play

Sure, but that remain subjective and the competitive value of a manager would not be quantifiable since he/she isn't a player getting drafted during the auction.

I just don't get why we need a second showdown tier over OU3, NU2 or even LC. If the a tier becomes better the more consistent representation it gets season after season, it makes no sense to favor the inactive players over the mmo players of this community. Make MMO tiers great, not the showdown tiers for inactive players.

If Doubles still gets Bo3, it should be played without changing teams between rounds. If the reason for Bo3 was to make up for getting haxed or w/e people were crying for, it makes 0 sense playing different teams each round. Players should only be allowed to change which mons lead each match.

That would be ideal, but it's impossible to do unless the teams are linked to a third party before each duel is played. This would also mean scheduling the duels with 3 people, not only 2.

Totally true, everyone who doesn't want to grind in a pokemon game is a complete disappointment. Shame on you @Rigamorty.

It's obviously not that simple. The difference between a grinder and a non grinder is not just that one has to time waste while the other does not. The grinder has to put a lot of efforts towards analysing the metagame in which he is playing to make sure he isn't grinding for no reason. This fundamental difference really sets apart mmo players from showdown players relying on lazy teambuilds.

As a disappointing former mmo player who now plays showdown only, I can tell you it's not laziness or lack of willingness to grind that has me signing up for showdown tiers only. I'm just better at dpp and smOU than I am at gen 3.67777 mmo ou, pretty simple

    stay with ur kind meatball.

I don't think mixing doubles and LC together is a good idea, as that will cut down the playerbase into like 5 people who play both of them, or doubles players will just get coached by an LC player during their match.

Why assume the person playing dubs would also be the one playing LC? I thought it was pretty obvious that those don't have to be the same people.

Further discussion on issues in PSL will come later down the line.

    I'll be there.

Whether you choose 8 or 10 tiers, it won't really matter if the wrong tiers are selected. The showdown player base is made mostly of inactive players that by definition are not willing to put as much efforts as mmo players. Splitting this disappointing community in 2 tiers is the worst thing to do. One showdown tier is enough.

  10. Ideally, I wish the PSL tiers were:

    OU1

    OU2

    OU3

    Spoiler

MMO OU is by far the most popular tier and should therefore get more representation.

    UU1

    UU2

    Spoiler

MMO UU might be boring to some, but it remains arguably the tier with the most hype each season. It's where MMO gods face off each season to exert their dominance.

    NU1

    NU2

    Spoiler

PSL without NU would be a joke. Having 2 NU tiers might be a lot, but I would rather see 1 more NU battle than some shitty ADV or SMOU duel.

    DPP

    Spoiler

Well, if we didn't have DPP, most of our bad inactive players would have nothing to do with themselves, so I guess throwing them a bone is acceptable.

    DUBS1
    DUBS2

    LC

    Spoiler

Bo3 that would be worth 2pts.

As much as I hate to admit it, DUBS is getting somewhat popular. Don't quote me on that because it's still shit. Forcing a dubs player to play potentially 3 duels per week is insane, especially if those duels are only worth 1 pt. LC is a mmo tier that is struggling to get competitive, but there are LC players despite how rng and match up based the tier is. Pairing up LC with DUBS in a Bo3 format would make sense since those are the most rng based tiers.

All of this  for a total of 10 pts.
