  1. Just one of many suggestions I shall be making. This one in particular should save players using trade chat a lot of time, and hopefully isn't too hard to code. I've made pictures to try and explain it better; Ok, so for this example, I'm going to be trading my Gengar. Here you can see I'm dragging it into the trade chat. You can see an icon and the Pokemon's Pokedex number Appears in the chat box. (The Icon could alternatively be replaced with the Pokemon's name) As you can by the picture, when the icon and text (They're both part of the same thing) are right clicked, it brings up the Pokemon's Summary box. This will also work for players around the server after the message is sent. (Again, the icon could be replaced with the Pokemon's name) Here is an example of how it would be used, and of course, people can right click to check the stats and nature of the Pokemon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This should save many people time typing out the stats, natures and EV's, and IV's of a Pokemon. They could of course still put important information, like 31 IV's in X stat next to it, to attract attention. Hopefully my short example with pictures makes sense. Let me know what you think of the idea, and if you have any questions about it. Again - the Pokemon icon could be replaced with it's name in the Trade chat bar. ~Darkshade

  2. My second suggestion I shall be making in this section. Ok, so being a CM usually means a lot of questions are thrown in my direction - (I must stress at this point, that it is indeed my job to answer them, and I am not complaining about doing so. I very much enjoy it.) As more and more users join the game, the more questions are brought up. The current solution to this problem is the FAQ tab, accessed by using H. My solution to this problem, is the Teachy TV; An item which existed in FireRed/LeafGreen, and for the sole purpose of helping new players. After accessing it, a menu with a series of helpful guides would pop up, with questions related to what the player wanted to learn; After choosing one of the questions, an animation would play out, teaching the player how to play the game in relation to that question. Here is a video example; My idea of course, would be to implement the Teachy TV into PokeMMO, but along with some of the existing tutorials, which could be read straight from the ROM, others would need to be scripted to fit around certain questions that would exist within PokeMMO. Such as how to fly, How to make Pokemon follow you, etc. etc. Now, another idea I had would be to have someone record a playthrough of the game, in seperate parts, and one of the Teachy TV's "Questions" or "Features" would be to play these videos in-game through the use of a built in video player. Again, I know this is all a hassle to code, and may not happen/would be a long way off. But I really believe this to be a permanent solution. Now to questions you may have about the idea: - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How will players get the Teachy TV? My idea would be to have your Mother give the Teachy TV to all new players just before they exit the house. With the dialogue along the lines of; "PlayerName! Don't forget this! Prof.Oak told me to give to give to you as a young aspiring trainer." -PlayerName Obtains TeachyTV- "Good luck Honey! You can use the Teachy TV by -Insert whatever method of using the TeachyTV is here- Oh! And don't forget to visit RivalName's Sister, I hear she has a spare Town Map for you!" This should eliminate numerous problems, the questions of how to use it, and helps those players who forget to pick up a Town Map to use fly later on in the game. And of course older Players can revisit their Mother to get the Teachy TV also, after that she will return to her usual dialogue, and healing your Pokemon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How will the Teachy TV be accessed? Well, my initial though would be to put it down on the bottom right hand corner, near the Game Menu, and also have it accessed via a hotkey. Either way, it is important that your Mother explains how it is accessed when she first gives it to you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please Note: - All of the other questions that exist within the TeachyTV could also be videos played through a video player, instead of scripted events. - The Teachy TV questions could easily be edited to help answer the questions that are relevant to the existence of PokeMMO at that time. - If the questions are done via video, members of the community could chip in, and help create them. (Again, down to the devs) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok now that's out of the way - One last thing; There exists a sign in Pokemon FireRed, and also PokeMMO in Pallet Town, that reads; "Trainer Tips: Press START to open the Menu!" Since Start does not exist in PokeMMO. It could easily be replaced with one of these three options; "Trainer Tips: Press H to open the FAQ!" or "Trainer Tips: Press (Insert Hotkey) to open the Game Settings!" or "Trainer Tips: Press (Insert Hotkey) to use the Teachy TV!" I think I've written everything down, if not - I'll add to it later. Let me know what you think of the idea. ~Darkshade EDIT: Also a better title name for the thread might be "Teachy TV - A better HELP solution?" Thankyou for reading.

  3. If you like it then please leave a like, thanks. UPDATE: JANUARY 13, 2013. As you may or may not know, yes, I did quit. After seeing that people are still interested in this guide I am beginning to feel guilty that I have not updated it. Thank you for all the views and thanks over the months, seeing some stupid thing I typed up being received that well and just getting viewed this much blew my mind! If you're going to be in the Sevii islands use Squall's guide: Link I'd like to ask that mods consider pinning the other EV guides as well since it's a whole different game from when I played. I'd hate to just straight up delete this thread but it's probably obscenely out of date and probably should be replace by a guide that someone else has written that is up to date. You'd know better than I would about it being informative. Before you get started you may like to know what EVs actually are. EV stands for 'effort value'. 4 Evs will increase a pokemon stat by 1 point, the maximum amount of EVs in a stat is 255 but the recommended maximum is 252 so you can use the remainder points in another stat. If you want a full guide and explanation of what EVs are you should check somewhere else like bulbapedia. If you have never played pokemon competitively before and would like to learn more about sets and EV spreads then I would recommend checking out smogon. They have all you need and more on basic cookie cutter sets. (Sorry for everyone who just cringed) Also, do not make the mistake of EV training a bad natured pokemon. For example an adamant abra. If you are going to sink the time into EV training, then you need to catch a pokemon with a nature complimentary to the stats you want. For example again a timid alakazam is perfect, as you will be EV training it for SpA and Spe. Here is a link to my preferred natures chart. The - stands for a subtraction of 10% and a + represents a subtraction of 10%. As you can see if you look at the chart timid adds to speed and subtracts from attack. You can also hover your mouse over the pokemon's nature in the pokemon summary to show what it does. I don't like to rely on that, though. Sometimes it's unresponsive. This is a list of all the places to train EVs. It will tell you what pokemon will give what EVs and where to find them as well as their levels. I will ammend it as new content is released. If you see something wrong, let me know. Even I, the great and powerful Galium-sama-rama-chan-san-kun make mistakes. Also, this is not a natures or how to EV train thread. That's another show guide. You would be surprised what doesn't give the EVs you thought it would (like weedle, speed what?) The recommended pokes to train on and the best area to find them will be bolded and highlited in red. Stat Recommended Area Level of pokemon Health (HP) Fat things give HP EVs and it's no coincidence that there is a fat guy sitting next to the pond in viridian. Before surf - Caterpie. Ditto also appear in the same area (and the pokemon mansion basement at a 10% rate) as venonat so you can proceed to catch those in hopes of good natures for breeding (someday). The venonats appear on routes 13, 14 and 15, I recommend going to route 15 for the tasty dittos and close proximity to the pokecenter. After you get surf you can encounter tentacools and it's much easier to grind those than it is to grind venonats. And no, you can't surf into tentacruel until post game. If you are a ground type you can go to the powerplant, just avoid the magnemite and magneton as they give SpA. You can put a level 23 pokemon in the front of your party and use one repel to only encounter dugtrio if you want. Heck, even zubat has a use sometimes. Gotta go fast. Nature Guide

Hello Guys, I today finished the storyline in PokeMMO and so far I had alot of fun. So now I want to do something back to the developers and make this guide for the forum. I'm from The netherlands so english isn't my first language but I'm going to try my best. And please tell me if you find any grammar mistakes. So lets begin. For the People who are totally unfamiliar with this I will try to explain it. Every Pokemon you catch, Trade, find or breed is different. Let me give you an example : As you see we got 2 Zubats here both female. Beside the level, hp and xp we see another difference : The Nature. The nature makes the pokemon who he is. So know we know that not all the zubats are the same I'm going to explain what this Nature adds to the game. You could see the nature as a buff but also as a debuff and it some cases it does nothing at all. Every Pokemon uses a different stat to be more effective Pokemons got 5 types of stats : - Attack - Defense - Speed - Special Attack - Special Defense The Nature affects the stats of Pokemon. Lets take our Zubats as an example : Our first Zubat is of Mild Nature, That means he has an higher amount of Spec. Attack than normal and a lower amount of Defense. The stat is affected by 10%. Let me show you : If my Zubat would have normally 100 Spec. Attack it would now have 110 Spec. Attack because it is of Mild Nature and if he normally had 50 defense he has now 45 defense. Here is a chart of all the Natures and their effects : Yellow :: No Change Green : Stat + 10% Red : Stat - 10% So I hope this guide helps atleast someone and this is my ''Thank you'' to the developers. Please give me Feedback - Foax

  5. Since other regions are still a long way off, how about having foreign pokemon occasionally come in swarms? While the rare ones make good rewards for tournaments and whatnot, this might be a nice way to let players get the more common ones from the other games. Maybe some kind of daily event, where each day there would be a guest wild pokemon available on a specific route. This would help prevent players from getting bored since there would be something new every day. And even if they miss out on a pokemon they like, they can always trade for one, and eventually people will be able to breed more. Examples: One day, wild Houndour can be found in Route 7. Another day, wild Feebas can be found by fishing in Celadon City. Another day, wild Shroomish can be found in Viridian Forest. I don't know how feasible this would be, since Fire Red didn't have a swarming mechanic. Also I don't know if it's even possible to change what wild pokemon appear without needing to patch it.

    Pokemon Doubles League

This being an MMO and all it should have some cool multiplayer features, which is why I suggest the Pokemon League Doubles competition, it could be like the regular story driven pokemon league except 2 on 2 battles. 2 players vs 2 AI - all level 100 pokemon The teams I was thinking of are: Battle 1: Misty and Lorelei Starmie (Misty) Golduck (Misty) Kingdra (Misty) Dewgong (Lorelei) Jynx (Lorelei) Lapras (Lorelei) Battle 2: Brock and Bruno Golem (Brock) Onix (Brock) Crobat (Brock) Steelix (Bruno) Hitmonlee (Bruno) Machamp (Bruno) Battle 3: Sabrina and Agatha Hypno (Sabrina) Venomoth (Sabrina) Alakazam (Sabrina) Dusclops (Agatha) Arbok (Agatha) Gengar (Agatha) Battle 4: Giovanni and Lance Dugtrio (Giovanni) Nidoking (Giovanni) Rhydon (Giovanni) Gyarados (Lance) Aerodactyl (Lance) Dragonite (Lance) Battle 5 and Doubles Championship: Blue (Rival) and Red (Male MC) Pidgeot (Blue) Exeggcutor (Blue) Charizard/Blastoise/Venusaur (Blue) (player 1 determined) Pikachu (Red) Lapras (Red) Charizard/Blastoise/Venusaur (Red) (player 2 determined) Now I know it is a long ways away until the pokemon league is complete and reachable, but in the future I think this could be a really cool addition to the game, tell me what you think.

  11. We should have a tab under the "friend list" option to see who we have blocked. Just a suggestion! :-)

  13. No. Unless both trainers agree that they will battle I think no changes should be made. When you challenge someone you are taking the risk of them having higher leveled pokemon than you. You can have fully healed pokemon while he may not. He will be able to see what levels your pokemon are and will decide if he will accept.

  15. When you release your Pokemon, it apparently goes back into the wild. In the games, one can never really tell. But in PokeMMO, when you release your Pokemon, it actually does go back in the wild. The fun doesn't end yet. Your pokemon retains its level, moveset, nickname, everything. Even the OT data. Now, because it's in the wild, ANY player has the chance to encounter and capture it. Even the OT (which would make for an interesting situation). Counter arguments: "What if you release a level 100 Pokemon? If it lands in Route 1, it's going to rape new players!" Released pokemon will be managed by level, and then environment. There multiple ways of dealing this. Example: I release my level 100 Nidoqueen. Since it is level 100, one option would be to place it in an area with high level pokemon. In Kanto, the area of choice would of course be the Cerulean Cave. Though it still out classes the normal level 60~ native pokemon, that area is available to people who have finished the main game, and will presumably have high level pokemon to deal with that situation. Another option would be to scale back the level so that it fits with the area it is put in. In the Cerulean Cave, Nidoqueen could be scaled to level 50-60, thus eliminating any overpowered issues. When we consider the "environment", we categorize Pokemon much like Fire Red and Leaf Green already did. That is, put water pokemon in water areas, cave pokemon in caves, etc. Not hard to implement, since it really only puts the pokemon in lists. In fact, these lists should already exist in the game, IIRC. Still, if we ever get to Gen IV or V pokemon, they might have to be updated/differently implemented. "Wouldn't this tax the server, since it would have to keep track of all those released Pokemon?" Not sure how much of a counter argument this is, since the server already keeps track of all the pokemon we catch, storing more Pokemon for the sake of wild encounters doesn't appear to be that much more unreasonable. The next point expands on this. "What if the Pokemon the player wants to get rid of is so bad, that no one will ever want to keep it? What if it gets caught by another trainer, only to be released again?" This could lead to a serious problem, since if this left unmanaged, the server would eventually be storing lots of unnecessary pokemon data, thereby wasting space. However, this can be easily avoided by implementing a counter or check system, which could keep track of how many times a pokemon is released before actually erasing it from existence.
