  1. I wish they were more transparent on why they made the change. Was it because it was ruining PvP? Or was it because someone posted a video of them clearing E4 in 20-ish minutes so they wanted to nerf it? I'm betting it was the latter.

They could probably nerf Baton Pass if they added phazers in the E4 teams but that would mean more work than disabling it. Maybe once they're done with that they're going to make BP work properly again.

  2. You can always run E4 without using Baton Pass.

But yeah, this is a big hit for people that run E4 for money. However with the new Pokemons added we might find a new team that would work better, you never know.

What's wrong with Baton Pass in the Kanto E4?

that's why you always lead with SR to stop sashes and Dnites

Your rival in Kanto has a team that uses Magic Guard Alakazam with a Focus Sash. Because of that you will take a hit. And since people like to use Conkeldurr (since it's pretty strong and good move coverage) it will die in one hit against an Alakazam. I guess you can use a pokemon that has a multi hit move or someone that can survive an Alakazam but I haven't touched a Baton Pass team in a while so I don't know what works and what doesn't.

  4. Yes, it is possible. I've been doing Kanto E4 for a while now. I believe Kanto is one of the harder ones since you can't use a Baton Pass team to sweep through it. Try doing Hoenn and Unova with a Baton Pass team instead. Someone posted their teams and even a video of them doing it.

Also it is only 1v1, never 2v2 and more than 10 teams to choose from. I think I've encountered 22 Lorelei teams so far. Although you can always spot a pattern. If a team has a weather starter then they will always lead with that or if a pokemon uses a move you can usually figure out what other moves they have.

I think I spend 15-20k on healing items. And yes, doing E4 isn't ideal for making money, you should just focus on gyms. I do them because it's fun.

I would post what team I use but it's really not that good. It does take me a while to finish a run.

Except when your doing story and have no access to those mons.

You only have to go through the Digglet Cave twice or something in the story. If you're only complaining about that specific point in the story and a place you will never have to go back to once you're done, then yeah, they won't change it.

  6. Impressive. I've also been playing around with Shedinja but I never can get it to work. I've never tried using it as a Baton Passer and mainly just used it as a pivot though, I might try it. However the main problem I have with Baton Pass team, especially yours, is a Magic Guard Alakazam with Focus Sash. It can KO your Conkeldurr and the only thing you have left would be Shedinja, which also gets KO'd by it. This could just be a Kanto thing though as I've never done Unova and Hoenn E4 extensively yet.

  7. Right now when fighting against NPC's Pokemons that has the Thick Fat ability it does not show up on.

This is against Lorelei, Kanto E4 rematch.

I don't know for certain if this Hariyama has Thick Fat or not but I did try using a damage calculator and the only way Volcarona can do ~15% damage (it shows 12% damage but it did heal with Leftovers so I'm rounding up), is if Hariyama has Thick Fat and invested everything in HP and SpDef.

I thought it should work similar to Levitate, like when using Earthquake or a ground move on a Pokemon that has Levitate it would tell the player that it has Levitate as an ability.

I did not test it against wild Pokemons that have Thick Fat, only against NPCs.

EDIT: I also think Heatproof acts the same. I'm not sure since I haven't tested it as much.

Arent some parts of the game taken from the ROMs?  Like followers are taken from HGSS, Im surprised they wouldnt take other battle scenes from other ROMs

Probably because HGSS doesn't have Gen 5 pokemons in them. So if you use something like Jellicent in Hoenn it would use the BW sprites and they most likely wanted to avoid that since it would look weird and stuck with BW sprites as default.

  9. What exactly are you having trouble with? I've never spent more than ~30k on Kanto E4 rematches.

Out of all the times I fought the Kanto E4 only 2 teams gave me trouble. Lorelei's team that has Vileplume because it has Sleep Powder, Giga Drain, Moonlight and Sludge Bomb, anything that switches in on it can get poisoned or put to sleep. Not to mention it has 2 recover moves. Lorelei's team that has Chansey because of Toxic and Softboiled, plus it can set up Stealth Rock. It's difficult for me to OHKO without a fighting move so I spend 3-4 turns trying to KO it. By then it would have poisoned me and made switching harder because it used Stealth Rock. Another thing is that the team that has Chansey in it also has a Vileplume in it, so double annoying.

And maybe a third team which is my rival's team that has a Magic Guard Alakazam with Focus Sash. I can't break it with Stealth Rock or Spikes so it always gets an attack off which usually KO's one of my pokemon. But that's the last battle so I don't really care.

You're supposed to build a balanced team to beat the E4. It's difficult to sweep your way through it. What I found extremely helpful are recover moves since it saves potions and Protect to scout moves. Having Protect means you can scout a move then switch your pokemons to counter that move. Gengar using a Focus Blast? Switch in Chandelure then use Shadow Ball against it to OHKO it. Magnezone using Thunderbolt? Switch in Excadrill and use Earthquake.

Also a lot of people claim that the AI can predict your moves. That's wrong. I've seen Bruno's Steelix spamming Stone Edge on my Skarmory, when I used Roost, even though it has Earthquake. Roost removes my flying type so if the AI was able to predict what moves I will use then it should have used Earthquake to hit me for super-effective damage instead of a not very effective damage. I wish I saved a screenshot of it for proof.

If your strategy doesn't work then don't be afraid to change it. Yeah, it sucks that you have to breed and train more pokemons just to test it out against the E4, and even then it might not work. That sucks, but it's part of the game. I've bred 16 2x31 and 3x31 Pokemons and trained them before finding a strategy that works for me. And I don't plan on stopping, I have plans to breed 3 more 3x31s to see if another strategy might work. Just have fun with it.
