    Pokemon Art Online

Kyle always loved gaming ever since he was a young kid. His first game was pokemon silver version for the gameboy color. He never knew how far pokemon could come. He never knew how far pokemon would take him one day.

The year is 2023, the big N has just released its first ever mmorpg. Its called Pokemon Art Online. Pokemon has always had a gilded history. They went all out with this one. The game uses a full dive technology that works by using multiple different controller set ups. On the low scale you can use just a controller where on the high scale it uses a omni-directional frictionless surface to simulate walking and running while keeping you safe and in place. The prototype of this controller was once called the cyberith virtualizer but it was since bought by nintendo. A virtual reality headset is involved too. It also senses your entire body all the way to your fingers.

PAO's preorders sold out almost instantly. Some hardcore fans decided to wait months ahead of time for it to be released. People accused nintendo of creating the shortages on purpose but not even they could have predicted how popular it would become.

Chapter 1: Night of the Release
"Gee it sure is booring around here" exclaims Kyle. "Haha! Nice zelda reference." Said the person behind him. He was a short fat mexican kid who seemed about 14. "Finally someone else who appreciates bad old games, hi im Kyle nice to meet ya." "Hey Kyle im Ricardo but you can call me Ricky." "So Ricky you hyped for PAO?" says Kyle. "Yeah man i feel like ive waited my whole life for this day!" exclaims Ricky. Kyle replies "Well it cant be that long right how old are you 13? When i was your age there was only 500 pokemon not over 1000." "C'mon man do i really look that young? Im 15 and old enough to know how to use emulators on my phone. I probably played all the gens you grew up with." says Ricky. "Oh yeah have you played second gen? And not the second remake for the NX." replies Kyle. "Yeah dude i love second gen, i used to play it online on showdown before it got shutdown." says Ricky with a tear in his eye.

Right after Ricky said this they both realized the line was starting to move. They were finally handing out copies of PAO. They stopped talking for a bit and shuffled forward in line. They both got their copy and exchanged usernames because the game requires you to register early in order to play day 1. Kyle got in his car and looked at the clock. It read 2:47am. "Wow thats quick for a release night."

Kyle drove home quickly but safely. He felt as if he was about to start a new life. But he didnt know why and just brushed this feeling off. "Its just a game, its just a game" he thought.

Yoooo its Xatu here with another craaazzzy idea lol.

So this idea would be like secret bases but they would be located in Kanto and in the actuall city areas.  We all know there are tons of useless NPC houses.  They sort of just sit there and occasionally they have some guy who gives 1 item etc.

What I am suggesting is that we move those npcs to somewhere else, maybe switching their scripts with other useless outside npcs.  Thus leaving their homes empty.  Now that the homes are freed up we can sell them.

The mods/devs would hold official auction events in each city where they would be selling real estate.  Only 1 person can own each house and this helps contributes to there insanely high value.  We could expect them to be worth 10m+.  Here's how the housing system would work.

There would be a new key item called "Key - Vermillion City House 2" or whatever other house it is.  This is essentially what we would be bidding on.  The key simply allows us to edit the permission of who is allowed to come into the house some examples would be.

    -->Open house to friends
    -->Open house to teammates
-->Open House to user (type here)
-->Open house to all users not on blocked list

Using the third option brings up my next point.  Renting.

Since the value for these rad bases is so high most users might just rent it for an event or a month etc.  The pricing is determined by the owner.  Oh and of course we could edit the house completely as if it were a secret base.

Yeah so thats about it guys i hope you like this idea and i put quite a bit of thought into it.  I've noticed not many people use the secret base feature so this would be like an extremely expensive version of that.  Anyway thanks for reading!

    Chapter 1 pt 2.

Kyle got home and immediately plugged in his set up.  He bought the most expensive one available.  Coincidentally the most dangerous as well.  It uses nanotechology in you brain that takes over all of your senses.  This nanotech is injected into the bloodstream and its supposed to be "safe".  Kyle already had the injection done and was so ready to play.

"Now just to log in..::" says Kyle.
"What name did I say I was using to that kid at the launch?" Kyle thinks to himself.  Oh yeah his user name was xXx_ShinY_HunteR69_xXx.
"I just told him I would have Xatu in my name..."

After this he puts the disc into his nintendo quantum pc.  The instructions on the screen tell him to lay back and relax.  Colors start shooting past Kyle's head.  He sees some words.  It reads "Link Start!"

    Chapter 2 - A New World

Kyle is teleported to a massive plaza around him are thousands of other players.  Everyone looks pretty similar because the base clothing options were pretty slim which is understandable.

"Wow where should i go first?" Kyle says to himself...

This Pokemon was very different from all the others.  You are not given a starter in this game and your in game character is 18 instead of 10 or 12.  Instead this MMO has you catch your first mons and players actually have a little bit of health and are capable of taking some some hits.

In the plaza Kyle was in there are many paths.  To the left there is a huge field and to the right there is player housing and vendors.

"I think ill check out the field" He thought.

Kyle walked to the left of of the plaza and through a massive gate into the field which seemed to expand on forever.

    "Holy shit...." He said outloud.

"Well time to catch my first mon i guess"

He looked into his inventory which was literally a backpack.

"Hmm ive got about 10 pokeballs here."

He took out several balls.  They were quite small, about the size of a gold ball.  Pressing on the button in the middle put the ball into catch mode, which also makes the ball grow larger.  Kyle took the ball and attached them to his belt in a sort of magnetic way.

"Time to actually find em now..."  He thought.

The grass patches in this game were much different than in the old school games.  They seemed very large and you could actually see some movement in certain areas.  Kyle walks right into it all.

    Forced to post this here.

We all would love to be youngster Joey, or perhaps just look like Red from the olden times (team Cyan ftw). Let us "wear" the NPC sprites as Vanities with little customization to save time as to allow more NPC Vanities to be created. As for the customization of these new forms of Vanities, they could have alt "pallets".  To be changes with a dye. For example: youngster Joeys hat would change color, and his comfy shorts. So some customization there, while still not being able to add hats etc, due to many NPCs being varied sizes.

Potentially like 100 new vanities (thousands including alt colors). That all of the sprite work is already done.

A new vanity slot is required.

Its to a ridiculous level and you guys let way too much shit slide.  People dont learn any sort of lesson from just having posts deleted.  You guys need to enforce a strict WP policy.   You flame, derail a thread, bully you get a warning point.  That simple.  You want people to feel welcome here on the forums.  As it is right now.  Its toxic as fuck.

Wow people I can't believe you guys can really rationalize as what they said as being "OK".   Pretty much, what they said was fucked up, i think most will agree.

However, saying something offensive like this cant really justify much more than a mute unless they are directly attacking another user, repetitively.  Chances are these people are first time offenders.  So they will receive a mute. If the problem continues then they will eventually receive a ban after like the third mute or whatever, depending on the severity of what they said.  Pretty much, they will be handled if they continue to act out of line.  They just have to prove that they are really that unable to learn/change.

So for those who have played neopets you will automatically know what i am talking about.  For those who havent heres the jist of things:
In neopets there is limited inventory space so players often throw away old, cheap, unwanted items.  In our MMO a comparable aspect of this is our box space.  Pretty much, we would donate our useless trash mons that wouldve been deleted or listed for 1k on gtl anyway.  Then players who are newer or have very little funds can claim them for no price at all.  It would simply be a fun little feature to check on every now and then and maybe even "snipe" from.  I find mr fujis house to be a suitable area for this.

Ooo boy can't wait for my drip feed of fake content!

Seriously guys, what the fuck... You claim you want to balance the game for nubs but here you go locking gameplay mechanics behind a bunch of bullshit that will likely be too hard for casuals to even consider attempting.

Making HAs hard to get is toxic as fuck.  You are fucking over every single long term player in this game and making it hard to even play the 5th gen battle simulator.

You guys seem to fail to realize, after all the bullshit, after I rebreed everything, I'm still just gonna be playing the 5th gen battle simulator.  The dungeons being like a fleeting deviation, only lasting maybe an hour before I never have to return again bar legendaries.

You guys seem to literally disregard your community left and right.  Sacrificing the players base for the ""economy"", well guess what, economy aint shit with no playerbase either.

Elvis presly said some very relevant shit, " Always listen to your fans" they are the reason you guys have a project to work on, if you notice you've pissed off everyone with some rediculous update, you should try and fix it not just basically give old members the middle finger pandering to a "new" fanbase that's just going to pay the storyline and then quit after anyway.

Here's an idea: instead of focusing on taking vanilla Pokemon mechanics and mmo-ifying them. You should take mmo mechanics and poke-fying them.  Grinding for hours for an ability is the opposite of fun, it's lifeless, fucking boring, and like I said before, fleeting.

When you start brainstorming new ideas you should ask yourself 1 question: is this fun? You're making a fucking game for the kiddos. It's gotta be fun.

I swear to god this game is a missed opportunity. We have the dankest market in any Pokemon game (RuneScape Grand exchange) but no pvp staking?? No player owned housing in cities??? No even attempt or consideration towards open wilderness pvp one day... No attempt or consideration towards open world mechanics, mining for resources, player classes and levels. With features like those you don't even need drip feed updates, they are so fun as it is you can play like that forever, maybe add a new class here and there etc.

Nobody gives a fuck about the concept of hidden abilities, when gen 5 was new we all thought it was fucking stupid they were locked behind the dream world and just gened them anyway.  Nintendo even undid all that and made them very easy to get in the friend Safari.  Learn from their mistakes.  Listen to the players who stay for long periods of time, because they see some sort of potential nobody else sees.  And please PLEASE consider adding mmo features instead of time wasting features.

PokeMMO: 2012 in Review - Written by Xatu
PokeMMO has been out for a very long time now and it
can thank you all for providing its support.  No bullshit
just games is the perfect description for a game that prides
itself on not adopting the Pay 2 Win platform.  Back in 2012 it
was a much different game.  The base of the game was a
multiplayer emulated experience by no economy or tiers
were present.  This had some interested and mazing results.
Shinies, lucky eggs, and pokemon became the currency and
this was all decided collectively by the players.  Many old players
refer to this time-period as "CatchMMO" as well because breeding
was not present.  While many disliked this leading to the
breeding system being implemented, many players actually
enjoyed the exclusivity of certain gift pokemon, and the thrill
of catching a pokemon with very good ivs.  Although tthis made
the battle system much less deep and as such the comp scene
was not taken seriosuly for a while.  3v3s were the norm but it
still had a very fun atmosphere and with no automated system in
place people were required to interact much more.  I think
PokeMMO can learn from its past and provide similar peramiters
to increase the fun a bit and player to player direct interaction.
One way it can do so is simply allowing teleportation to the battle
arena when they are spectating a battle.   Just this small feature alone
would bring back alot of the hype lost due to automation.
PokeMMO is very long running and i joined in september 2012.
It has a bright future ahead for it and i look forward to all the new
     features it will provide!

with its amazing stats and typing.  Fighting/Steel are both
amazing types in every way and it can be ran as a mixed attacker.
The usage rate is insane and for good reason.  You will see
this mon ALOT when playing.  Be on the lookout and consider
carrying fire or ground moves to deal with this beast.

This weeeks player of the week is Xatu
Xatu: Its great to be here
X2: Thanks for coming for the interview
X2: So how long have you been playing?
X: A long time haha, i joined in 2012 and havent left since
except for some short breaks here and there
X2:  Thats awesome, whats kept you here so long?
Whats your favorite thing about the game?
X: Well ive always loved competitive Pokemon and first
got into it back when gen 4 was new.  I played shodddy
battle and showdown extensively and so i think thats why i
stay here.  I love battling and i love that my comps/shinies
     actually mean something here.
X2:  Yeah thats the thing with the vanilla games, many players
like to hunt shinies and breed legit pokes but they quickly find
that almost everyone hacks in pokemon.
X: Yeah its really unfortunate for those who do grind
X2:  So onto the next question, if you could change or add 1
thing to the game what would it be?
X:  Well im known for my suggestions but this one is quite
simple.  I think they should add more "pay-to-save-time"
type features.  Stuff like one-time pokerus pills, exp all,
drugs that fill all evs, stuff like that.  With more donations the
devs will be able to work harder and the players dont feel
like they are missing anything other than time when buying
the items so i think its fair for everyone.
X2:  Thats great well were getting towards the end of this interview,
any closing words you'd like to share with our subscribers?
X:  Just keep playing dont quit after the storyline lol, theres always
gonna be new stuff to breed and new comps to play, donate more
as well, server space isnt free so consider donating if you  can here and
     there.
X2:  Awesome, really solid stuff, thank you for the interview today!
    X: No problem!
    X2: Cya online!

Ugghh here we go again with the horrible philosophies....

Dude @Kyu bro, just i have to point out the obvious once again?  @redspawn you fought the fight well bro.

Hidden Abilities: Locking them behind some weird grind that's not even accessible until after a storyline is absurd.  There's like a million reasons why,  here's some:
    * Makes it 100% harder for n00bs to git gud, doesn't matter if you go hidden ability pill route or the dungeon route,  it makes it just that much harder for n00bs to be able to actually play pvp when they're already competing with veteran esports masters, if you really cared about making shit accessible you'd simply add HAs as a third ability available anywhere
    * Rebreeding just to stay relevant is toxic content,  puts a bad taste in literally everyone's mouth
    * People will already NEVER run out of new shit to breed, there's no "oh every Mon is bred, game is dead now" not only do people quit, they also try new sets, and new tiers,  for 1 player to have every Mon In every tier with every set is not only ridiculous,  it's impossible. Not to mention,  after you get done dropping millions and 12 hours of your precious time on ONE Mon,  it could still be a piece of shit,  or you might simply not be good enough to even use it right
    * People have been VERY adamant about not liking this philosophy,  by going through with this plan you're basically saying "oh yeah I read your comments m8, I completely disregarded them too lololol" you should be trying to please us, not making us quit left and right "for the grind longevity"

inb4 12 people tell me to quit because I dislike some of the recent decisions being made. No I'm not quitting, I joined almost 6 years ago,  every post I've ever made on these boards offering my honest advice (as a game dev myself I might add) has been out of LOVE for this game.   I've seen it go from a thriving MMO to one with 4 matchmaking matches all with the same players over and over and that's so sad to see.

People play MMOs because there long term time investments actually mean something.  Literally the last 3 updates have done nothing but shit on your long term players and the game has never been so dead.  Learn from your mistakes.  Move forward with some respect for the players.  Add actual MMO features ffs.

    That is all.
