My Kanto Nuzlocke

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone !

I am doing a Nuzlocke in kanto and the beginning has been really hard, even before Brock, I started with a Bulbasaur, got a Rattata on r1, a Mankey on r22, a Pidgey in r2 and a Weedle in Viridian forest.

I trained my team so they are all level 12 at least, went to the 1st gym to fight the trainer and he has one shot my Beedrill with a crit, the first death and I was sad since it was my only evolved pokemon.

So I trained until my bulby evolve and beat the 1st gym, on route 3 I got a rattata (an other ) with horrible stats but in Mt. Moon I was lucky and got a Geodude with pretty good IVs.

I bought the Magikarp, and it was worth it because Gyarados has crushed Misty, on route 24 I got a caterpie and on r25 another pidgey.

Before daycare a Mewoth and on r6 another pidgey (damn I am not lucky).

In Vermillion I caught another Magikarp (just in case Gyarados dies) but it has bad IVs and nature, hopefully I got a pretty decent one in the water just before the SS Anne.
My geodude died to Gary's Raticate (did'nt expect water gun...) in SS Anne, so I went on r11 and caught a Sandshrew and got a Diglett but it died just after against a Hiker on east of Cerulean. There I caught a Ekans, and before rock tunnel a Spearow and in the rock tunnel I got a second Geodude.

Lt. Surge was surprisingly easy, thanks to sleep powder (bulby is definetely the best starter for Nuzlocke) but he killed my Meowth, and after rock tunnel was not so bad (repels and potions all the way).

Finally I was lucky and got a Kadabra on r7 (with 149 IV, 31 in at but whatever) and picked the Evee in Celadon (no casino pokemon then no dragonite for this game) and got a Bellsprout on r8. I am gonna wait for 4st badge since my team is not optimal for it.

Sadly I lost my Sandslash (was my most leveled pokemon) against Giovanni at the Rocket Casino. I got a crit by Kangaskan.

Now Sandslash has joined the other in the dead box, my alive box is still pretty good and I have an Ekans in the daycare. The Nuzlocke challenge is still getting more and more easy since I now have a lot of money for buying potions/heals and good EVs thanks to the grinding (Sandslash was already 155 EV). I guess I am now gonna train my second Geodude before fighting Gary at Lavender.

Dead count : Beedrill, Geodude, Diglett, Meowth and Sandslash.
My team:  Geodude Bulbasaur Mankee Gyarados Raticate Pidgeotto Evee Kadabra

Is it ok to trade Kadabra to make it evolve in a Nuzlocke?

Another question, in which Eveelution should I evolve Evee? Jolteon and Flareon look like the most obvious choices, but maybe Umbreon or Iceon could be nice.

defensive pokes are always good when you want to play a survival type of game so i would say umbreon is good.

I won a kanto nuzlocke a year ago with mostly gyarados as the main killer.

Also a good tip for kanto when you give ss.ticket to sailor u enter ''ss.anne'' area and u can catch a magikarp with old rod there.

my story guide can also help with some items for battle and for sell money during run.

some items in kanto need pokemon owned in pokedex so i put them all at the end of guide.

so make sure u check last pages right away for those items to get some of those items fast like itemfinder to pick leftovers.

Thanks a lot! Are you sure about Umbreon? Because I feel like a Jolteon would help me a lot especiallh since my Ivysaur died. I don't have a counter for water and I don't think I am gonna use Bellsprout.

And yes I caught a magikarp at ss anne and it's mh new gyarados since the 1st one also died.

Do you think it's against the rules to evolve Haunter, Graveler and Kadabra?

Your item guide is really nice

If you specifically want a grass type so you can resist the water move while switching in, you can also get a Leafeon by leveling Eevee up in Viridian Forest. It's pretty bulky on the physical side too. Some water types carry ice moves though, so it'll need to be played pretty carefully due to its low special defense, but it's an option nonetheless.

Umbreon's a good option for a nuzlocke though, it's extremely bulky from both sides. You're not likely to lose it to something it's not weak against unless it's an intentional sacrifice.

Vaporeon or Umbreon for walls,  Glaceon or Jolteon for fast Special, Leafeon or Flareon for physical

But deap in mind, I would choose Espeon, because You definely need a psychic type in Kanto

I already have a Kadabra with good IVs,

I also have an Hauter. Maybe I should wait a little because I might catch a Magnemite in the power plant. And a Vaporeon with Ice beam would be good for e4. Jolteon would help a lot too
