Organisation of Unofficial Events Section

Recommended Posts

In order to organize the Unofficial Events section, we bring the thread to discuss unofficial, ask for aid during them, and general contact between players and ofc staff. The section will serve as a place to create and discuss unofficial events. All PokeMMO rules apply to it.

Before posting any series of tournaments, we advise checking this thread to see if no event is ongoing currently and discuss it with players. You will not be stopped by staff members from hosting a tournament, but the majority of players being unhappy with another tournament can give you an estimate of if you can expect players to join it or not.

When posting a new tournament, please use the following standardized structure, proposed by gbwead:

Events types

  • Tournaments
A tournament is an event that lasts no longer than one day.
  • Championships
A championship is an event that lasts over a long period of time and involves players participation multiple times.
  • Series (PSL, World Cup, LCPL, etc.)
A serie is a championship that had multiple iterations of the championship format.

Events Titles

When creating your unofficial event, please use the following format for the title:

Thank you @gbweadfor suggestion of format

Additional information:

Please note that certain type of series, like PSL has ongoing traditions of hosts being approved by previous hosts and players. New players who will come and make an "official" PSL might be met with players being unhappy with it.

Unofficial Events Section Moderators.

The section will be moderated by a chosen team of staff members. It currently includes:

Bearminator

KaynineXL

DeusBruno

xJoseee

Our role in the events section will be to be aid and guidance. Our tasks involve:
- Closing and moving old threads to the archive

- Moderating discussions in the threads

- When possible, aid the events personally, as refs, commentators, players, or general presence during events.

Please note that unofficial events are not our priority and we will assist in events only when being available and not busy with other tasks of staff members. Us not taking part in your event doesn't mean we dislike you or your event- other tasks of ours have priority.

Some thing that can be maked is a Pinned general thread for the Series tournaments. They are the tours that most part of players that visit this section, will look into. So, a pinned thread to discuss rules and formats to being applied to all future seasons can be good to be maked. I've maked a suggestion of this on Suggestion Box. The ideia is along with this thread, we have a pinned thread permanently for each event(Currently 6: World Cup, Olympic Games, Pokemmo Super and Challenge League, Little Cup Premier League and Teams Champions League) to discuss the format and get the contact of last host in order to get permission to host next edition, and the general thread of current season that will be pinned but being unpinned 1 month after event ends.

A example of paste to pinned thread(I'm using one that i wish to use on Olympic Games):

Spoiler

Banner comming soon(didn't provided one)

Welcome to PokéMMO Olympic Games. This is a community event where you and your nation compete into subevents, with the Winner earning medals. When event is over, the nation with most medals wins a extra prize.

--------

1. Events Avaliable
On first edition we will have 13 Events. In order to make matches easier to schedule, all events will be splited on West and East Conference. On West Conference we will have West Europe, North America and South America. On East Conference we will have Africa, East Europe and Asia-Oceania. A final beetween both conference winners can happen, however they aren't mandatory. If both cannot schedule the final, it will not happen.

Events Avaliable:
Solo: Over Used/Under Used/Never Used/Doubles/Little Cup/Monotype/Untiered/Video Game Championship(VGC)/1v1
Team: Country Team Tournament(Tiers: OU/UU/NU/DB/LC or OU¹)
PvE: Catching Event/Solo Scavanger Hunt/Team Scavanger Hunt

¹: This will depend of team. If one of teams have only one or no player that can play LC, the format will be changed to OU. If both countrys have at least 2 players able to play LC, then it will play LC. If both teams agree, the format can be changed to any unofficial format, like Monotype, Untiered, VGC or 1v1.

2. General Events rule
On all solo events we will have a cap of 4 players per country. If more than 4 players signed up for same country, then a qualifier will be played to determine the 4 that will enter. On solo events, in each stage players must send a paste of team that will used for the Entire stage(Qualifiers/Group Stage/Play-offs). This will be mandatory. If any player use a different team than the one showed on paste, he will lost and be disqualified. However, except for 1v1, if a player disconnected with at maximum of 5 completed turn mark and match are replayable(Only used status moves or moves without trigger the secondary effects(example: Flamethrower that didn't burned.)), then a Rematch will be mandatory. The only exception is that are clear that opposing team cannot do anything more on match, and the win is guarranted.
All tiers will be on single match on eliminatory rounds, except 1v1 and VGC that will be BO3. Group Stages on solo events will be played on 3-series matchs. with all of 3 matchs being played and each one giving 1 point for player winner(3-0 wins: 3 points for winner , 2-1 wins: 2 points for winner and 1 for loser.) . Final Match will be played on BO3(BO5 for 1v1 and VGC)

On team tournament, the registration rules will be the same than world cup, and we will use their master file as a reference for first edition. However, unlike World Cup, all player that signed up for one country and have your entry accepted, will be on country team, except if player itself retire from team to play on a Pickup team. Also, the LC compatibility will be modified. On Olympic games, captain cannot choose that if their team are LC compatible. Who will determine this is the players. If one or no player on team can play LC, then team aren't compatible. If two or more players can play LC, then team are compatible.

3. Signup
On signup thread will have the calendar of events, and players will sign up on events that they wish to enter. There will be no limit of events that you can sign up. Catching events will require entry too.

6 players is a minimum amount of players that a country need to have to be ellegible. if country didn't have the minimum amount of players, then the players will be placed on the pickup team of region(Rest of Asia/Oceania , African Nations, East Europe, West Europe, Latin Party and North America)

4. Hosts:
Current hosts: @HostExample
Discord: Example#0123
IGN: Example

5. Medals and prize pool

The prize pool will be divided on this way:
62% of prize pool will be distributed on events, being 4% for each event(2% for each Conference Cup) + 10% for country team tournament(5% for each conference cup)
25% will be distributed to country with most medals.
8% will be distributed in awards, like:
1% MVP of each official tier(OU/UU/NU/Doubles/LC) + VGC
2% for the Fair play of Event.
5% will be to pay event costs, like Signature for Solo events winners.

Each event prize pool:
1st place - 50% and a Gold Medal for their country
2nd place - 25% and a Silver Medal for their country
3rd place - 15% and a Bronze Medal for their country
4th place - 5%
Fair-play award - 5%

Medal Score:
10 for Gold Medal, 5 for Silver Medal and 3 for bronze medal. Most score wins the bonus prize for country with most medals.

Idea for a event:

PokéMMO Weekend Series

What is this event?

Will be a Individual Tournament that will run on 7 Weeks, with the entire event happening on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament will be divided on Two phases: Qualifiers and Finals.

Qualifiers:

The qualifiers will be held in tournaments involving one specific tier for each.

6 tiers will be placed for first edition: OU/UU/NU/Doubles/LC/VGC

Each tier will have 3 tours in order to qualify. LC and VGC will be hosted here on Unnoficial Events section, but other tiers will be hosted in a automated way(using the forgotten but still usable Community-Hosted automated tours). All tours will have 32 spots.

The tours will follow this schedule:

Week 1:

Friday: OU /Saturday: UU /Sunday: LC

Week 2:

Friday: NU /Saturday: Doubles /Sunday: VGC

Week 3:

Friday: OU /Saturday: NU /Sunday: VGC

Week 4:

Friday: UU /Saturday: Doubles /Sunday: LC

Week 5:

Friday: OU /Saturday: Doubles /Sunday: LC

Week 6:

Friday: UU /Saturday: NU /Sunday: VGC

Each tours will confer points to players according to their position on tour:

Champion: 10 pts

Runner-Up: 7 pts

Semifinal: 5 pts

Quarterfinal: 3 pts

Round 2: 1 pt

At the end, 16 players with highest score will qualify to final tournament, with next 16 players on standings having a reserve spot, that will happen on Week 7 Sunday.

Also, players can play on more than once qualifying tournament.

Finals:

On final tours, players will face themselves on a BO3, and the tiers will be the follow:

One tier selected by each player before starts the tour + VGC as a Tie-Break, if needed.

VGC and LC data:

On VGC and LC matches, a paste of your team, or a screenshot of team preview, need to be sended on discord(to be created). Because they don't are automated tiers, this are necessary to give a small but better than nothing usage of tier.

This thread is for discussion about events as well. It serves for players to talk about when, what or why do any event.

However, I also don't think posting ideas "for someone to do" is needed. If you want to make an event, make a post about it and ask players if it sounds enjoyable for them. Asking someone to host your event is going to just not work out imo, since if someone would want to make some event, he/she will usually just follow their own idea.

Definitely not a good idea. You want this as a standalone post so people actually see it/read it and don't click into a random tournament discussion in page 5 rather than the section guidelines.
If you want events discussed make a different thread.

I think that can be a option. Because if you want to do a event but it doesn't seem to be a great idea by community, better that are on a post so they can re-evaluate the purpose, instead of a Specific thread that probablly will need to be locked and deleted.

What's the point of having made all that if some people can just ignore that (despite having apparently read it all) and launch a large scale event with little approval from community?

Caio you obviously spend a lot of efforts into your Slam thing, but have you ever considered that few people in the community actually trust you as host let alone consider you at all ? Derailing any forum thread with random stupid stuff, being literally a meme in the community, someone gotta adress it at this point. Please open discussion for feedback here before occupying more place in this section with an event nobody will play or support.

I'm checking the main post and until now, only Draken really said "No" to the event. Like World Cup's Hosts. One of them at the time of announcement, was complety unknown, and other host community acuses that are a WinTrader. But both are hosting World Cup well and doesn't do any mistake on adminstrative decisions. If they was this historic and are hosting well one of the biggest event of community, why not give to any "random" a chance to host their event? If he don't make anything wrong during event, is 100% ok. He can't do mistakes like TCL hosts did, when they don't cared about World Cup and just throw their event in the middle. Result? The prize pool of tour will be basically 70% at minimum, earned by Entry Fees and something else, but they will not get more than 30% of their prize pool, coming from donations.
