ScizoMonkey
Does anyone use shiftry as a catcher-thief utility pokemon? It has great potential IMO, it can learn: False swipe Thief Synthesis Substitute Sword dance And as a grass pokemon it resist sleep powder, toxic powder, paralysis powder, spore. But also as a dark type Pokemon it resist hypnosis, trick and other psychic moves The only thing it is missing is a way to paralyse or put asleep the foe. Link to comment
akaHeroGarou
I like your attempt to try use new pokemon. But, we really have superior catchers like Breloom - Substitute(bypasses volatile and permanent status moves), Better recovery (poison heal), false swipe, spore. And a versatile one - Smeargle. So, I don't see many preferring Shiftry (Also, dark type doesn't resist hypnosis/trick) GLHF! Link to comment
DarylDixon
also as thief pokemon, best one is banette with frisk Link to comment

Smeargle is great but its stats aren't that good for catching pokemons in high level places like Cerulean Cave. I also have a Fearow because it can learn false swipe Payday Thief Roost And also Fearow is so fast that you don't need to put EVs in speed so you have more HP. Link to comment

xRdZiiiN
like someone already said, we have better options for the job.. but you definetly can use it as an utility mon for sure. Edited July 23, 2022 by xRdZiiiN . Link to comment

TohnR
You don't usually need your catcher and your thiefer to be the same pokemon. Breloom does a better job at catching mons. Banette and other Friskers do a better job at thiefing. You can also take note of Quaggsire used as a Thiefer to prevent geodudes from self destructing (with Damp) when doing Rock Smash farm Edited July 23, 2022 by TohnR Link to comment

Darkoure
iirc I used stantler for more hp and sustain while grinding amulette coins vs 5 hordes but only for thieving Edited July 23, 2022 by Darkoure ScizoMonkey 1 Link to comment
