1. This seems like a poor solution to something that isn't really even much of a problem.

Due to OP being unclear in his original post, I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to solve with this.
If you're referring to Trade Chat spam, trade chat exists for spam.  While we do certainly need a better trading system, this would only make our current system a pain to use.
If you've noticed that when you're typing and you press the Up Arrow Key it copies your last sent message, that's so you can send chat messages without going through the trouble of typing it out.  This mechanic also helps combat auto-typers, making them near pointless to use.

If you're referring to Global/Channel/Normal/etc., sure this hypothetically could do something useful.  It would stop someone from saying 'vendo pokeman' 1000 times in chat.  What this would also do, as previously mentioned, is ruin our current trading system(Unless it's set into effect only for Global/Channel).
On top of that the implementation of this system would be ineffective and/or complicated.  Would it work only for exact messages, so if I say "Ayy lmao" I can't send the message "Ayy lmao" again after that?  If so then all I have to do is type "Ayyy lmao" and wooosh, I've evaded your system.
If it has some kind of intelligence behind it and knows that "Ayy lmao" and "Ayyy lmao" are essentially the same message, then you start running into bigger problems.  For instance if a friend of mine joins the chat channel I would say "Hey Ben", and if another friend joins the channel I'd say "Hey Sam", but your system wouldn't let me say hello to my friend because the messages are identical.

It should also be mentioned that our moderators already punish players for spam, and with this system being either overly complex or really easy to get around it brings next to nothing to the table that we don't already have.

Pros of this system:
Depending on the implementation, it /might/ stop autotypers(Which aren't a problem in our game anyways)

Cons of this system:
Limits chat
Ruins our trade system
Depending on the implementation, it could be really tedious for innocent players who aren't spamming

Our current system of limiting the amount of messages a player can send per every x amount of seconds already does a good job of keeping the spam under control.  Also if you do see someone spamming, you're encouraged to submit a player report so that a moderator is made aware of the issue.

2. So your just gonna watch it go to shit than rather help fix it?

Also, what you are saying is the community is going down.

If you are really a part of this community, you should be helping it grow. (Grow meaning making this game better)

How new are you?  I've done my part.  I was(Keyword was, don't try and get me banned for staff impersonation pls) a CM not long ago, and I've tried keeping all the chat's clean and free from trading/spam.
A rough estimate of the kinds of posts I've observed in Global chat's:
90% trading/other spam
5% people complaining about being scammed
5% quality posts

No, no that wouldn't.  If you need an explanation as to why, ask.  I don't feel like writing any more page long arguments if people are only going to read the first few sentences then go back to their shitposting. EDIT: Fuck it, I'll write it for shits and giggles.  I've got free time.

Then why does global exist?

Everything that exist has a purpose

That's a good question, why does it exist?  The only thing it really does is serve as an extra Trade chat, and a place for people to spam stupid shit.  It doesn't need to exist.

That means we need more mods

I can more or less agree with this, but for different reasons.
Yes, having more moderators is good, and Noad is doing a good job of recruiting quality CMs.
No, the staff should not be dedicating an immense amount of time and effort into moderating a chat channel that has no reason to exist in the first place.  Their time could be better spent elsewhere.

3. Global chat was one of the best parts about PokeMMO when I started playing a few years ago.  There wasn't that much to do in the game besides breed, so socializing was a huge part of why I continued playing the game.  Some of my favorite memories in this game have come from global, and our old Global crew.  I also met a lot of really great friends there.
That being said, I disagree that Global should be 'brought back' or improved.  Our chat system is all kinds of fucked anyways, and proof that edgy teenagers ruin everything they touch.  Our community isn't what it used to be, and as it grows more and more edgy teens will flood in and ruin our chats.  We've already seen people moving to Ch3 because Ch2 went to shit. Before that people were moving to Ch2 because Ch1 went to shit.  As our community grows, we'll see people moving to ch4,5 etc. as the previous one turns cancerous.
On top of this, it's already hell for our moderators to moderate a single channel chat.  9/10 posts in Global chat are players buying/selling items.  If the proposed solution of reducing the cooldown is implemented, that means more people are going to trade there and add even more work onto the mods who are already overworking themselves.
I'd rather Global just be killed off.  It could have been a great tool for beginners to seek help, and also a great place to socialize, but in reality it's just cancer in it's purest form because autists can't figure out that "VENDO TURTLE 10K" goes in Trade chat and not anywhere else.

4. Iirc this has already been suggested.
What stops a player from spriting an innapropriate item and wearing it on their head?
Where will these sprites be stored?
What happens to the old cosmetics since they can now be replicated for 15k?
There's also a major concern: This kind of system would make our game look like shit.
In a perfect world where all our players were really mature, top tier pixel artists this would be great.  In reality however most of our players are young, immature and can't sprite for shit.  The game would end up with most of the players having some poorly made outfit.

5. I don't think that slippery slope argument really works. Buying/selling wild comps and shinies are 2 completely different ball games.

He's got a point.
A comp is something you work for, and their actual price is very rarely higher than 700k, if even that.  To get a comp worth a signifigant amount of money a player has to know a bit about competitive play(Movesets, Nature etc.) as well as breeding, which means most new players won't be able to produce a 700k comp.  The users who would make a comp worth that kind of money will likely be experienced enough to know that they should check what the price of their item is before selling it, or they might already know what it's worth.   (didn't realize the argument was about wild comps only)

Also, in terms of wild caught comps: Unless you catch a 6x31 perfect natured comp(An exageration, I know)  that doesn't require any eggmoves, it's likely not even going to be worth more than 400-500k, and even then would only really be used as a breeder.  I'm sure it's statistically less likely to catch a perfect wildcaught comp, which species doesn't require egg moves(Beldum, for example) than to catch a shiny charmander, and anything less than perfect will be worth like 600-700k at most.

A shiny however is something that shows up, and their value can be greater than 50m.  They aren't things that players work for in the same sense that you work for a comp.  A player fresh out of pallet can stumble upon a shiny, and have no clue that it's rare or valuable.  They might just think because they got one the shiny rate had been increased substantially from the main games.  This is what leads to scamming: Players not knowing any better.
I think the real argument here is that a new player can go out and find a shiny charmander, then end up selling it for 10k because some shiny trader tricked them into thinking it was worth less than it actually is.  Simply saying "It's the players resposibility to look up the price of their Pokemon" isn't a good way of looking at this.  The type of players this suggestion is aimed at are ones who probably don't even know we have forums.  Telling them where they can go for information would not have negative effects as far as I can see(Assuming it wasn't worded poorly), and while the argument "It makes our community look like they're all scammers" can be true, but if worded correctly it can also show that our staff geniunely care about the players and want to make sure the players know where to go to get information.
Wether or not this is worth dedicating some of Desu's time to, that's another question entirely.

Edit:
I still stand by what I said earlier, a trading system could fix this problem entirely and this warning dialog would be almost uneccessary.  However my above argument was made only taking the OPs suggestion into account so that I didn't go too far off topic.

Edit2:
I like OPs idea of Oak giving you the message, however like 1% of our playerbase actually reads those messages, and with the rush that catching a shiny would cause I don't think anyone would read it.
I think a better option would be a popup dialog, a dialog box that goes over the text box(with an OK button to close), or a system message displayed in the chat box.
The message should also be short, sweet and to the point.  Get the information you want to convey out there.  Not to say OPs message wasn't well written, it was, just don't expect the target audience of this suggestion to slow down and read that much when they've got a rush from finding something they'd never seen before.

6. I wrote a really long post last night but ended up not posting it because I didn't want to start any arguments before I went to bed.  A short portion about it said 'this is not a solution, but merely makes the problem apparent, which would probably still decrease the amount of new players who get scammed'.
A later portion said this: (
A real solution to this problem would be a Grand Exchange-ish trading system.  If you're unfamiliar with Runescape, the GE is a trading post where users can sell/buy items for whatever price they choose through it.  There is however a screen that tells you the average buy/sell price of the item in question.  A system like this would be perfect, because then users would be able to see how much Shiny X is averaging for at the time they catch it.  )

I still agree that something could be done to reduce scamming, and this certainly might help it.
One of the most useful things someone can have is knowledge.  A screen telling a user where they can research the price of shinies would be useful, and DS has a way of wording things so I'm sure that he could make it sound more like 'We care about you and want you to know what you're getting into' rather than 'Our playerbase is shit and they'll scam you at every turn'.

I'm indecisive about wether or not a link to VD would be acceptable though.  Given it's player run and has just as much oppurtunity for scamming as in game, I don't think treating it as if it were an official source is a good idea.  Alternatively you could just link "www.forums.pokemmo.eu".
In the end the only real solution I can see to this is adding some kind of average buy/sell price listing, which would require the implementation of some form of trading hub.

Originally I was against this idea, but now I think I'm neutral on it(Not that my opinion matters much).  Other games have warning screens, some that come to mind are all from Runescape: The warning when dropping a valuable item, a warning is shown when crossing into a PVP area and even the trade screens in certain versions of Runescape have a slight hint to show if you're making a fair trade(I remember in Runescape at some point if you were trading two items/cash, it would check the GE price of the items and compare them.  If you were getting the short end of the bargain iirc the text would turn red).
A message box that appears when recieving a shiny OT wouldn't be that much different, and if it's worded correctly it might give the player the impression of 'Wow the staff genuinely care about me and want me to know where I can go to check the price of my shiny" rather than, as previously mentioned, the impression that our community will scam you every chance they get.

>inb4 hurr you make all your arguments with "Make this more like Runescape"
I lack originality or much knowledge on game design, so the best I can do is say "Hey that works, lets modify that and make it work here!"

7. This theme is absolutely perfect for me.  It goes perfectly with my desktop theme, and the darker colors are a hell of a lot easier on the eyes for me.
Pic below is how it looks on my desktop
The non-transparent chatbox was a bold move, and I think it looks nice.  I might try fiddling with some things and seeing how a transparent one looks, but overall this is a great theme.

8. I have this babe but he is still untrained.

PRx96xJ.png

Yo what theme is that, it's beautiful and goes perfectly with my desktop theme

On topic: My best comp is probably my sp def wall Ludicolo.  The moveset needs work(Leech Seed, Giga Drain, Surf, Rain Dance), but the IVs are all 30-31 except for Attack, with Calm nature.
I also love my Kingdra, but I can't share the info on that because I actually use it.

9. Daily tasks for Money/Exp/Other Rewards isn't a farfetched thing for a game to have.  Actually things like that are fairly common in MMOs from what I've seen.

Expanding on the idea, I think something like "Bring me X amount of Y item and I'll give you Z amount of cash/something else" would definitely be a cool mechanic.  Daily events such as this are great because they give players a reason to log in every day, and due to only being possible once per day they allow for pretty great rewards during a short amount of time.
There are a million and one different Daily Events that could be added too, offering a lot of variety.  Things like 'Fetch x item for me' or 'Kill x amount of y monsters' are some that come to mind.

10. Why did so many people leave? I was looking forward to coming back to my BONG buddys but haven't had luck in contacting anyone. Seems unlikely that everyone quit for no reason.

Smog is the new BONG iirc, and a bit of history: The team name Bong was against the rules apparently so they had to change it.

This isn't uncommon though, people leaving.  Players come and go on games.  Some diehard players stick around for a few years, but others play until they get bored and move on to a new game.  I can imagine most of them just got burnt out and moved on to other things.

11. this from Diano when i made my Back page in introduction forum

See that clears things up.

Emily and King left when OT got nuked I think.  I talked to Emily recently on Teamspeak when she logged on for a few minutes, but she left and hasn't come back since from what I've seen.  Neither of them were ever really active in game, so I imagine they haven't got much of a reason to come back.
It's depressing as fuck seeing friends leave, and even worst that it's indirectly my fault, but that's how shit is.

We've seen the loss of a lot of cool members, and a lot of really shit ones too, over the last year.  Maybe that's why you find the forums to be not what they used to be.

12. i been around this forum for abit i got back from 6 months break and it seems so different then use to

and yea i just noticed emlee and king havent been around

Do you even know who Emlee and King are
I was an OT mod, and I knew every person who ever posted during my time there.  Your name does not ring a bell.

13. Mate, you've been here for like 5 months.  You can't say 'It's not what it used to be' when you're still in your infancy.

Although to some extent I can agree.  After getting OT nuked I've noticed there's never anything that really interests me, especially so now that I'm a player.  Maybe I oughta check out Round Table like Fuzzy suggests, because we do have a really cool community, but lately even Suggestions Box has been boring me.
I miss King and Emlee ;_;

14. Alright, I think I read this right.
Basically when a user makes money, a certain amount of that money is taken away and stored in a 'savings account'?

This doesn't really solve anything.  The problem is that people are having difficulty making money, not that they're having issues saving it, and from what I can tell from this solution it doesn't increase how fun it is to make money, nor does it increase the amount of money they can make.  Assuming I understood the suggestion, this adds nothing that you can't already do by just keeping all your money and manually budgeting it.

Edit:
When I say 'not that they're having issues saving it', I mean that there are a ton of things that demand money in our game, and not many fun ways to make it efficiently.  Sure, you can payday for a week, save it all and have loads of money, but an active player will have to shell out money constantly for comps, items and various other things.  From what I can tell the issue here is that people are needing to spend money at a faster rate than they want to make it, because our methods of making money simply aren't fun.

15. Ok thx for reply ( funny thing i can use this in one bowser and test teams by playing chess with myself). Anyway  hope noone will punish me for such "stupidity" (moderators can remove this thread  if it's such big deal).

Nah don't worry, nothing in this thread really calls for a punishment.

I wish you the best of luck in your future competitive career o/

16. This is a fairly simple suggestion, and there are a few different ways I can think of to go about it.  The main idea is to have a setting that makes only messages from people on your friends list appear in the chat box.

Some things I think this system should have:

- Obviously the ability to set all your chats to Public, Friends Only or Off(not really neccessary)
- The ability to set your Whipsers to 'Friends Only'.  /dnd mode is a good system for not recieving whispers, however having a 'Friends Only' mode would be convenient since /dnd blocks all incoming whispers, even the people you have on your friends list.
- The ability to set different chats to block all messages that aren't by your friends.  So I should be able to set my Global/Channel chats to 'Friends Only', but keep my Whispers and Team chat's 'Public' and allow all messages to be seen.
- DND mode accessible through the menu.  Most new users don't know what the chat commands are, and simply having a 'Private = Off' button somewhere would be a whole lot easier to figure out for new players than typing '/dnd'.

This is the system I considered the best solution:

• Options for different types of chats:
The best option imo would be to have a menu below, beside, above or inside the chat box with settings for the chats.  In this menu there would be a 'Public Chats' option for Global/Channel/Normal/Trade/Shout, 'Team  Chat' for the team chat, and 'Whispers' for the private messages.  Each chat type would have it's own option, so I could have my 'Public Chat' set to Friends Only, but my 'Team Chat' and 'Whispers' chats set to public.  Having an 'Off' option for the 'Public' and 'Team' chats similar to our DND mode would be great too, but somewhat uneccassary since you can do just that via the already existing 'Chat Tab' settings.
Pros: Handles everything well and allows for you to have your Whispers chat completely friends, public or off.  It's also very simple, and doesn't require any fiddling or searching to figure out where the settings are located.  They would be shown right on the menu(which could be displayed straight on the screen, or opened via a button) and easy to access.
Cons: It lacks the ability to completely control what's on or off.  For instance you can't have your Global on Friends Only and your Channel on Public at the same time.  It also contributes to menu clutter, having to put this interface somewhere.  This system probably shouldn't be per tab, but rather affect all chat tabs.

Regardless of how it's implemented, I think this system would be incredibly beneficial to the players.  I'll be honest and say I only like 5% of the people I've met in public chats on PokeMMO.  It's no secret that our chat suffers from people spamming it trying to sell their shit-tier Pokemon, among other things.  This doesn't really solve that, very few things can, however it puts the user in control of what they see.
I find myself blocking 20-30 people a day in game just for trading alone, and I got to thinking "Why can't I just block everyone except the people on my friends list?", which is essentially what this system does.  Runescape's system is very similar to the system I proposed above, and it works really well.  Runescape also suffers from spam in the popluated areas, however having my chat only showing messages from friends allows me to carry on a conversation with my friends, regardless of how many other people are also trying to have conversations.

Just some other options I was thinking about but did not consider a good solution so I decided to leave them out.
• 'Friends Only.' option when creating/editing a chat tab:
When making a new tab have a check box for 'Friends Only', and make the option independent to each tab.
• Pros: Allows the user to have public and private tabs of the same chat, which means being able to easily switch between public and private.
Cons: Needing a private and public version of each tab(Main ones being Channel, Global and Normal.) takes up space on the chat box.  Can't really 'Block' whispers as the player might have a public and private whispers chat channel.

• 'Friends Only.' option via right clicking a tab:
At any point you can right click a tab and a menu with "Public/Friends Only" options will appear, allowing you to turn your chat to private.
Note: This would preferably work per tab, so that I can set my Channel chats to private but not my whispers.
Pros: Same as above but switching the 'Public/Private' option on and off is easier and less tedious than having to go into the tab menu, find the tab and toggle it off.  Also has the benefit of not really needing a tab of each type because it's only 2 clicks to change the option on or off.
Cons: Similar to the first, it might be difficult to make it able to have whispers set to 'Friends Only' because one might have a public and private whisper tab.  This would also be annoying for team chat where you may want to see messages from everyone, but because the system works per tab it'd block team messages in that tab as well.
17. I remember a while back I needed to test out a comp team, and I got a teamate to build a Gen 4 team using only Gen 3 Moves, Abilities and Pokemon and it was accurate.
While there's no popular or official 'PokeMMO Simulator', just doing what's been said above works pretty well.

Sorry, Mitsagami1, you are not allowed to promote anything as long as it's not PokeMMO-related.

Also this is technically true, due to the rule that states

1. You may not solicit, advertise, or promote any services other than PokeMMO while using PokeMMO's Services without the express written consent of PokeMMO

in the code of conduct, but it's rare that people get punished for referencing Showdown.  Back when OT was still around we had an entire thread dedicated to Pokemon Showdown, and to be honest referencing tools(such as Bulbapedia, Psypokes etc.) is perfectly fine in my opinion because PokeMMO doesn't have any alternatives built into the game/forums for them.  Stuff like Bulbapedia and other external sites are invaluable tools for new and experienced players.

Things that are directly trying to stop players from playing PokeMMO and have them move to another game however have always been punishable.

18. What happened with CaptainGrey and DaftKitteh, they were cool too :<

I don't know Grey's reason for resigning, but I'm taking a break to focus on my studies and various other things.

Also:
All the staff are my favorite staff.  They all volunteer for a job that, in my opinion, was pretty tedious and sometimes depressing, and they do it because they love you guys and the game.  Anyone who does that is ok in my book.
>tfw I'm bad at picking favorites

19. https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/55334-a-message-telling-us-our-egg-is-ready-when-breeding/?hl=egg
Kaynine beat you to it.

Regardless, this is a good feature to implement imo.  The entire breeding process now takes a signifigant amount of work in comparison to the pre-update system, and asking a player to sit around and wait for Pokemon to breed is unneccassary.  I've always viewed the period where you wait for an egg to appear as a 'Relaxation' period where you're free to take a break and do something else.  Unfortunately not being notified when an egg appears limits how much you can really do during this period.  Usually what I do is just rapidly talk to the breeder NPC until I get an egg so that I get my egg as soon as it becomes available.  With a notification system in place however one could run off and VS Seeker, hunt for more breeders, items, or do a variety of other productive things, or even just sit back and relax while waiting for an egg.  The player would still be able to get their egg as soon as possible and continue on hatching it due to being notified the moment the egg becomes available.

20. Briefly checked through the main.properties file and there's nothing there for font size.  It would be a nice feature to have though.

Edit:
I assume OP meant in game, because on the forums it's pretty self explanatory how to change the size of text.
