Bestfriends Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) If you see any graphical issues with the pictures, then try to refresh the guide and the pictures should be restored. However, if the pictures still do not upload correctly, then please notify me and I can see what I can do. The information stated in this section is mostly the same as the Kanto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Morimoto guides (except for the speed stat. Since you can infer what speed stat most pokemon are, ie: Walrein looks a bit slow or Jolteon looks a bit fast). Thank you RedactedColour for writing up the Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh Gym Guides! I battled Cynthia once a day to find out what team was present. I tried battling at the same time every day or starting with the same Pokemon only to find that the teams changed despite this. Cynthia do not use the same teams depending on the day of the week. However, RedactedColour has told me, if I don't defeat one team on a certain day, that same team will reappear on the second or third day. With all that said, allow me to introduce the format for Cynthia Species (Level #) Models provided by Bulbapedia Ability: --- Item: --- Damage based on health or deals a fixed amount, Damage based on Attack, Damage based on Special Attack, Non-damaging move Moves in bold hit multiple Pokémon "How do I use this guide?" The teams are organized based on the pokemon level order from highest to lowest. For instance, Cynthia's first team has Garchomp, Empoleon, and Eelektross. Cynthia differs from all the gym leaders because she opens up with a random pokemon from the set (all Cynthia battles are single battles at the time of making this guide). This does not mean she'll throw in Eelektross after her first Pokemon has been defeated. Look at the Cynthia set you're battling. Look for the team that has some similar Pokemon. The teams are placed in collapsible spoilers so that the guide will load faster and mobile users can scroll easier. If you can fill in any information that's missing from this guide, please inform me. Instructions on how best to help me are listed below in the "Additional Information" section. Thank you. Contributor MightyBoxer - Informed me about the Cynthia NPC in Undella Town. ShiroHebbi - Helped me document Cynthia 5. YouTube Commentary Spoiler Most of this introduction and additional information was written by @RedactedColour, so thank you for the awesome guide formatting. I hope that this guide can be of assistance for you. Don't forget to check out the Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh Gym Guides if you haven't already, as well as my Unova Gym and Morimoto Guides. Cynthia Team Tips: Spoiler 1. It may be helpful to lead with a Hazard setter so you can have the field advantage (ie: leading with something that can throw Stealth Rocks or Spikes to your opponent's side). 2. Thanks to Volcarona's unique Fire/Bug typing, it has the ability to go one on one with some of Cynthia's pokemon if you Quiver Dance 1 or 2 times. I will give a generic Volcarona set in this spoiler in case you would like to pursue this strategy: Spoiler Volcarona (Level 100) Nature: Modest (+ Sp Attack, - Attack); Timid (+ Speed, - Attack) IVs: +25 HP/-- Attack/+25 Def/30-31 Sp Atk/+25 Sp Def/31 Speed EVs: 6 HP/252 Sp Attack/252 Speed Ability: Flame Body Item: Life Orb Fiery Dance, Bug Buzz, Giga Drain, Quiver Dance 3. A Skill Link Cloyster is useful for breaking Focus Sash Pokemon. I can give the details on a generic Cloyster set in this spoiler: Spoiler Cloyster (Level 100) Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Sp Attack); Jolly (+ Speed, - Sp Attack) IVs: +25 HP/30-31 Attack/+25 Def/-- Sp Atk/+25 Sp Def/31 Speed EVs: 6 HP/252 Attack/252 Speed Ability: Skill Link Item: White Herb/Focus Sash/Quick Claw/NeverMeltIce Shell Smash, Icicle Spear, Rock Blast, Ice Shard 4. A well rounded fast Starmie may be of assistance. Let's use both of my Starmies as examples (these two Starmies cover each other's blind spots) Spoiler Star of Doom (Level 100) Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack) IVs: 29 HP/18 Attack/29 Defence/26 Sp Attack/29 Sp Defence/31 Speed EVs: 6 Defence/252 Sp Attack/252 Speed Ability: Natural Cure Item: Mystic Water Thunderbolt, Psychic, Ice Beam, Surf Dasani (Level 100) Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack) IVs: 23 HP/15 Attack/22 Defence/31 Sp Attack/16 Sp Defence/31 Speed EVs: 78 HP/196 Sp Attack/236 Speed Ability: Natural Cure Item: Choice Scarf 272, 153, 197, 285, 191, 357 Thunderbolt, Psychic, Ice Beam, Surf Morimoto/Cynthia Team Tips (Credit to @DragoTamer, I am using his exact statements to me): Spoiler Archeops (Level 100) Nature: Jolly (+Speed, -Special Attack) IVs: 29/31/28/14/28/31 EVs: 6 HP. 252 Attack. 252 Speed. Ability: Defeatist Item: Wide Lens Rock Slide, Stealth Rock, U-Turn, Tailwind Krookodile (Level 100) Nature: Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack) IVs: 25/31/31/15/25/31 EVs: 6 HP, 252 Attack, 252 Speed Ability: Moxie Item: Life Orb Earthquake, Crunch, Aerial Ace, Dragon Claw **When fighting Cynthia, use EQ on Garchomp. It has Rough skin. Using Dragon Claw might finish you off** Starmie (Level 100) Nature: Timid (+Speed, -Attack) [Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack) is most likely better. It outspeeds basically everything anyway and can take hits from those it doesn't] IVs: 31/10/31/31/31/31 EVs: 6 HP, 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed Ability: Analytic Item: Wise Glasses Thunderbolt, Psyshock, Ice Beam, Surf Volcarona (Level 100) Nature: Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack) IVs: 24/14/22/31/21/31 EVs: 6 HP, 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed Ability: Flame Body Item: Leftovers Fiery Dance, Bug Buzz, Giga Drain, Quiver Dance [I don't really use Giga Drain] If Archeops lead faints against scarfed Garchomp, bring out Starmie and then use Ice Beam. You can generally bring out Starmie against Garchomp, but if it isn't scarfed, I prefer to bring out Krookodile. When bringing Starmie in against a scarfed Garchomp, the damage should be around 30ish%. maybe a little more or a little less. Starmie can take the hit. If Archeops is still alive after taking a hit from a non-scarfed Garchomp, use tailwind and then bring out Krookodile. You can then build up moxie and continue. If you encounter scarfed Roserade, it will use Leaf Storm against Krookodile and Starmie. You can then swap in Volcarona if they faint and power up using quiver dance to +2 or +3 then sweep. I believe the Starmie layout below outspeed Scarfed Roserade, but no gaurantees. it needs to tested if it outspeeds or not. When fighting Cynthia, Volcarona's fiery dance will take out Lucario in one move. If you have Volcarona fight Roserade, it can set up Quiver Dance easily then sweep her team. Especially if it's a Scarf Roserade. I put Leftovers on Volcarona for this purpose to heal. Volcarona is just a fourth I use, but you don't really need it. Krookodile, Starmie, and Archeops lead seems to do pretty well at clearing them. The higher the IVs the better of course. Bestfriends Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) Additional Information Do I get more money for fighting one team as opposed to another? No. All Cynthia battles will give the exact same amount of PokéYen regardless of which of their teams you defeat. What's the difference between a Pokémon with ??? for their item or ability as opposed to -- or an actual item or ability? -- means that the Pokémon doesn't have an item. A Pokémon with ??? for its Ability, item, or move has an unknown Ability, item, or move. Why do the Hidden Powers have (Type?) after them? When Bob Ross transforms, he doesn't copy the opponent's hidden power. As such, I can't say for certain that an opponent's Hidden Power is a specific type. I can only say what it most likely is based on which of my Pokémon it's super effective against. Hidden Power move bio: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Hidden_Power_(move) You've made a mistake. (Pokémon) can't learn (move). Some Pokémon have moves that they shouldn't be able to learn according to their Gen 7 learnset on Bulbapedia. If I have a move listed it is because I've seen it or Bob Ross has copied it. You've made a grammatical or spelling error. Thank you. Please tell me where it is so that I can fix it. Can't you just assume that a Pokémon has the same speed, Ability, or move across different teams for the same leader? I have observed that different teams from the same leader may have slightly different movesets, items, & abilities even if they have the same Pokémon. How long did it take to make this guide? I made this guide on October 3rd, 2019. This guide was completed on Ocber 6th, 2019. It took me 3 days to complete the guide. Recommended Content? Feel free to check out the Kanto, Hoenn, and Unova Gym Guides. What inspired you to make this? That is a good question, I love to do Gym Runs in game as a way to make some revenue. Although, rich players in game laugh at my in game salary, it is enough to get me by. I've been doing gym runs for 1-2 years, so I am use to most of the tricks that these gyms have to offer. I originally posted commentaries of me doing a gym run in Kanto, Hoenn, and Unova on the Mayor Bestfriends YouTube channel. Recently, I saw a player by the name of RedactedColour and he made a coherent Kanto Gym guide. I was impressed by his work and when there are pieces of information missing or incorrect, then I would PM him (thank you RedactedColour for listing me in the Contributors section). Then, he made a Hoenn Gym Guide and this was when I wanted to take a bigger role in helping him construct the guide in its beta stages. As you can imagine, RedactedColour's PM Box was constantly lighting up on the forums. At the time that the Hoenn Gym Guide was almost done, I saw RedactedColour's impressive Kanto Elite Four Guide. As a person who enjoyed Gym Runs, I PMed RedactedColour asking permission to use his guide template for a Unova Gym Guide. Once he gave the approval, then there was one last pokemon that did not have its Ability Traced yet. It was Juan 2's Starmie, so I got to work and once I Traced that Analytic ability, then I PMed RedactedColour the information and I started working on this Unova Gym Guide. Once the Unova Gym Guide and Morimoto Guide were completed, the next logical step would be to cover the Cynthia battles. If you have all the tools you need then why post the guide before it's completed? It's easier to update as I go along than to keep all the information to myself and then post it. I want to help. What can I do? Take a screenshot of an enemy Pokémon using a specific move or presenting a certain ability and send it to me. I'll add your name as a contributor at the top of the guide. Do you still play PokéMMO? My in game name is Bestfriends. I would like to contact you. How do I reach you? Feel free to send me mail in game, PM me on forums, or message me on Discord. RealMak Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) Really nice guide. I already fought Cynthia with my level 100 Krookodile, but her team ain't a joke, especially her garchomp that everyone is scared of. She is actually challenging. Oh and you can only battle her once, there are no rematches... according to my device because I couldn't battle her again Edited January 19, 2021 by RealMak
