Can somebody explain to me why Venusaur is in NU? I know it doesn't get Chlorophyl or its Mega here, but Venusaur's stats and movepool versatility make me question how it's placed so low. I've even been using one in OU and I'm having success with it! It takes care of the Rotoms (and formerly Swampert), Milotic, Magnezone + Gengar (with certain builds), and most of the Water/Ground/Rock/Grass types in the tier. It's even got a nifty Fighting resistance! Now am I suggesting Venusaur is OU? No, not even close. I just personally think Venusaur should be UU, or at least banned from NU at a minimum. Something that gets Giga Drain, Power Whip, Energy Ball, Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, Earthquake, Leech Seed, Sleep Powder, Synthesis, Growth, and Swords Dance as well as having the stats to run any of these moves well just simply shouldn't be sitting at NU in my opinion.
Thoughts?
Have you played or watched NU matches? Venusaur is a very strong Pokemon in the tier but it isn't overwhelming in any capacity. There are plenty of strong mons in NU that work well in OU. Hell I've had plenty of OU teams that use 2-3 UU/NU mons. Tiers are first of all based on usage, so Venu is not used enough to be OU and it's not used enough in UU to rise to UU either. Most likely because Venu has tough competition with Roserade that does a lot of things that Venu does and more. And in OU the grass slot faces competition from Breloom and Rotom-Mow.
Just because a Pokemon works well in a higher tier doesn't mean it's broken in lower tiers. Otherwise we could ban Clefable, Spiritomb and Mantine from NU too because they all have good niches in higher tiers. Some mons even work better in higher tiers than the tier they are actually in.

This tournament is exclusively for Optic Members.
Welcome to the OLT, this goal of this tournament is to provide a learning environment and a competitive environment for our (aspiring) competitive players, while also selecting our monthly TT roster.
How it works: Every month there will be three tiers available for signups. These tiers are based on the tiers required for TT that month as well.
Signups will be open for a short period of time. In this period you may signup for any combination of tiers.
Once the signup window is closes a Round Robin bracket will be created for every tier seperately. The only thing provided next is a deadline.
You have to schedule all the matches yourself with your opponents within the given deadline. You do not have to do the matches in order of the bracket, as long as all your matches are finished before the deadline you are good to go. Once every match is completed, the top 2 of each tier will face each other in a Best of 3 Finals. During the finals you are allowed to change teams without limit.
The top 2 will be considered the champions of the respective tier that month and will be the first choices for the TT lineup :)Important: During the Round Robin stage you are NOT allowed to change your team. You sign up with one team and that is the team you have to use continuously in the tournament until the final stage.
This month the tournament will be free, but we are considering putting an entry fee on the tournament to be able to continuously provide cash prizes for the top placements. We will hold a vote at the end of April to determine if the tournament will continue with fees + prizes or no fee + no prizes.
Follow the sign up instructions each month carefully, because you have to provide your team to a Host as well.Submitting a valid team:
When you join the tournament you have to sign up with a valid team to enter. A valid team must have 6 members, fully EVd and moveset. This information has to be present in the submission. The easiest way to do this is by following the following steps:
1. Go to https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/
2. Open the 'teambuilder' found on the left
3. Click 'Add new team' for 'formats' you can select 'National Dex AG'.
4. Now fill in the teambuilder with the team you are going to use. Make sure that the EVs, held item, moves and nature are correct!
5. Once the team is filled you have the button at the bottom of the teambuilder that reads 'upload to pokepaste'.
6. Click on that and you get a pokepaste like this: https://pokepast.es/105f38749dbcbd28, this link is what you ultimately send to the host.

So here we are Week 11 for Singles and at long last the finals for the Doubles Series. Big congrats to Dank Void and Luke XD already for having such a consistent showing. Last time these teams faced off, Luke XD sure got a bit lucky, but will they allow luck to take over the game again? Or will we see a different strategy for both teams? They will be fighting for the prize of 4.83m! (Second: 1.38m, Third: 690k).
Please read the rules carefully, especially for scheduling.

This is probably whats happening by the looks of it, also discussed Lucario and Haxorus, haxorus got a resounding no, Lucario was a bit more split but still voted no.
Interesting, can we get some TC input on why P-Z but not Hax? P-Z has way more immediate power than Haxorus and in a way even has more spamable STAB. It has more potential sets than Hax that need a larger variety of answers and it can carry Trick which is.... tricky. Especially with Jelli moving out of the tier it's curious that P-Z is being considered for a retest. What are the metashifts that justify a retest of P-Z, while not justifying a retest for Hax? I'm curious.

Thyplosion competes directly with Blaziken for a fire slot in NU too and Blaziken is one of the best NU mons in the tier right now. I actually don't think Specs will be viable for Typhlo, yes the calcs look amazing and 100 base speed seems like enough. But NU is filled with scarf Blaziken and Rotoms that dent Typhlo hard enough that Eruption doesn't matter anymore. Being easily revenged by Dug is definitely not what you want from you fire wallbreaker either. So ya the calcs for specs seems overwhelming, but it isn't that realistic imo. In fact Charizard would be the better specs abuser because it doesn't get trapped by Duggie.
All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better group of simultaneous drops as they all help balance and check each other. Slowbro helps with Azumaril, Giga and Azu with Typhlo, and so on.
-
Imo it's too soon to quick ban Azu. The CB set is the most threatening and consistent set I'd argue, BD sounds nice on paper but will prob be hard to pull of and can even be easily stopped (it would likely get a kill first). Even then the CB set is stopped by things like Rocky Helm Quag, Slowbro, Tangrowth, Alomola. And those are just the safest switch ins to most of its moves. At +6 Haze Golbat and Mantine can put an end to the boost while common mons like Venusaur and Sceptile can take a +6 jet and kill it. Mind you that ice punch will really not hit mantine or golbat that hard when it isnt boosted by CB and even defensive Venu would be able to take 3.
-
I even would say it fits offensive and defensice characteristics well, the fact is p2 CAN break through most of the tier with just 2 moves and it does this while walling the majority of the tier as well. Almost no mon that isn't incredibly obviously broken fits an uber characteristic perfectly, that's why these characteristics are stupid to use in the way they have been used. You should always look at what characteristics are most present and which one it combines to be the menace that it is. Which is why I'm saying p2 could be banned OR AT LEAST suspect tested under the guise of a combination of offensive and defensive characteristics.
I just say this because the TC has a habit of pointing to these characteristics, pushing their glasses up and saying "well actuallllyyy it doesn't fit x characteristic perfectly because'. And because of that most mons only get banned under the guise of 'unhealthy'. This isn't the right way to go about that and I hope TC members can see that as well.
So yeah I'm in support of at least a suspect test.
-

Tyra conkel seems more dangerous to me than the combination with hydreigon, pursuit of some ghost / psychic, you eliminate crow's feet and the drain that conkel will spam will be to fear, skarmory at a certain point ceases to be a counter, because you must be careful of roost in front of the, hippowdon is more constant than skarmory, but ice punch takes a good toll, 2hits ko if I remember correctly, honestly, I think this should be analyzed, I see it unbalanced unless, until I put the hidden
This is literally true for any fighting type in OU

Bumping this because, yes please. We have the percentages in battle log already, have move PP used be in the same spot as where you can check stat changes.
