Popular Post DragoTamer
Introduction To explain the title, I have written stand-alone guides to certain commonly used PvE abilities and their optimal Pokemon which I will link at the end of this guide. This guide will center on the remainder PvE abilities that don't have enough information to warrant stand-alone guides for them. Unlike my other guides where I describe optimal builds, pokes, etc., It is very difficult to outline optimal Pokemon for the below abilities so there will be more discussions, explanations, and deciding factors. I will try to provide my personal recommendation for each ability category, but it is fully up to the user as to what they choose. For some categories, you will notice that the full range of Pokemon is not present and that's because I eliminated choices that aren't that great. Although I said it is difficult to pick a single optimal Pokemon, it is very easy to point out Pokemon that are less effective. Additionally, I try to list the best 4 egg moves for the Pokemon in my recommendations. Sometimes just one of the egg moves is needed such as in the case of Octillery for Entrainment, but it is fully up to the user as to how many they would like. I included them if the user would like to have a sense of completeness. Additionally, it is up to the user how close to the recommendation build they would like to make their Pokemon. Suction Cups/Sticky Hold Spoiler Fishing encounters increased by 25% If you want Suction Cups: Pokemon: Octillery Ability: Suction Cups Nature: Timid IVs: 31 Speed, 31 Special Attack, 0 Attack EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 HP Moves: Entrainment, surf, thunder wave, constrict Egg moves: Entrainment, Haze, Flail, Water Spout **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** **Entrainment can be learned from the move tutor after evolving into Octillery so it isn't added as an egg move to add** HM moves: Dive, Surf, Waterfall Timid nature raises speed and lowers attack so constrict will act like a makeshift false swipe. Surf is a move to wipe hordes. Entrainment makes the wild poke’s ability the same as Octillery’ If you want sticky hold Pokemon: Accelgor Ability: Sticky Hold Nature: Modest IVs: 31 Special Attack, 0 attack Even with a 0 Speed IV, Accelgor will outspeed all pokemon you encounter via fishing EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 HP, 6 Defense Moves: Gastro acid, yawn, Swift, quick attack Egg moves: mind reader, feint, guard split, pursuit **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** HM moves: None Quick attack acts like how constrict does with Octillery. Swift is a horde clearing move and benefits from a modest nature. Gastro acid removes the opponent’s ability. @IaraLuvis the creator behind this Pokemon's moveset and ability. Gastro acid was an especially fantastic find. I also wouldn't have thought of Accelgor if she hadn't shown me Swarm/No Guard/Arena Trap/Illuminate Spoiler My recommendation: Heracross Scyther - 105 speed stat. cut, defog, rock smash leavanny - 92 speed stat. cut, flash Egg moves: Mind reader, Me first, Camouflage Heracross - 85 speed stat. Nature: Jolly EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 6 HP Moves: False Swipe, Egg moves: Flail, Harden, Pursuit **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** HM Moves: Cut, Rock Smash, Strength Beedrill - 75 speed stat. cut, defog, flash, rock smash Scizor - 65 speed stat. Cut, defog, rock smash, strength Kricketune - 65 speed stat. cut, flash, rock smash, strength Escavalier - 20 speed stat. Cut, rock smash After comparing all Pokémon with the 4 abilities in this category's heading, the only ones of real note were those with the swarm ability. I then narrowed it down to those that could learn false swipe. Additionally, I wrote down their speed stat in descending order along with HMs they learn for utility purposes. I picked Heracross as my recommendation as it learns the more versatile HM moves for Traversing regions. Additionally, it learns false swipe and serves as an excellent swarm Pokémon for legendary hunting. In my opinion, I would call this the most optimal choice for swarm ability Pokémon for its wider range use as well as its good base speed stat @IaraLuvinformed of a leavanny build which utilizes mind reader, grasswhistle, and false swipe which served well for catching contests where there were no nature bonuses It is important to keep in mind that it also depends on the catching contest because if a no nature bonus catching contest is held for lower leveled Pokémon like patrat on unova route 1, you can utilize any of the above Pokémon, including heracross, and just false swipe + poke ball to catch it. White Smoke/Stench/Keen Eye/Quick Feet/Intimidate/Pressure Spoiler My recommendation: Take your pick from Pokémon among the White Smoke and Stench abilities. White Smoke (-15%) Torkoal Speed stat: 20 Egg move: yawn HMs: rock smash, strength Stench (-15%) Muk Speed stat: 50 Egg Moves: Haze, Shadow Sneak, Mean Look, Stockpile HMs: rock smash, strength Skuntank Speed stat: 84 Egg moves: Haze, Pursuit, Punishment, Smog HMs: cut, defog, rock smash, strength Keen eye (-10%) Quick Feet (-10%) Intimidate (some lower leveled) Hidden Abilities White Smoke Heatmore Speed stat: 65 HMs: cut, rock smash I only included Pokémon with the White Smoke and Stench abilities because they have the highest rate of repelling Pokémon. I then included their base speed state and HMs they can learn for utility around regions. It isn’t common to lead with it when going around the region as repels do the job, but they serve an excellent purpose when collecting Ash. I will link Bestfriend’s guide related to that below. If you equip a cleanse tag to one of these Pokémon, the repelling stacks Ruled out: Garbodor due to learning no HMs, Weezing [HA] due to lack of HM utility Magma Armor/Flame Body Spoiler Slugma/Magcargo It’s a meme and Slugma/Magcargo have both abilities. Both abilities are related to egg hatching so if you decide to breed it, it will always have the pertinent ability. You can also shunt this in a horde Egg moves: Memento, stockpile, spit up, swallow **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** HMs: Rock Smash Camerupt Egg Moves: Mud, Bomb, Spit Up, Stockpile, Swallow **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** HM Moves: Rock Smash, Strength This ability stacks with donator Synchronize Spoiler My recommendation: Xatu or Espeon Alakazam Speed stat: 120 HMs: Flash Imprison, teleport, thunder wave, and night shade are good for ralts shunting Espeon Speed stat: 110 HMs: Cut, Flash, Rock Smash Useful TM: Dig [great for escaping caves] Egg moves: yawn, wish, synchronoise, tickle **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** Xatu Speed stat: 95 HMs: Defog, Flash, Fly Egg moves: simple beam, haze, Drill Peck, FeatherDance **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** Moveset #1: Imprison, teleport, thunder wave, and night shade are good for ralts shunting Moveset #2 for HM Buddy: Defog, Fly, Teleport, Flash Gardevoir Speed stat: 80 HMs: Flash Umbreon Speed stat: 65 HMs: Cut, Flash, Rock Smash Useful TM: Dig [great for escaping caves] Beheeyem Speed stat: 40 HM: Flash Musharna Speed stat: 29 HMs: Flash I organized the Pokémon by Speed Stat. I would not pick: Musharna and Beeheyem due to their low base speed stats Gardevoir, Umbreon, Beheeyem, and Musharna based on low HM usage After ruling out Pokémon, I looked at Alakazam, Espeon, and Xatu. From there, I found Alakazam’s main benefit was in a nice kit for shunting ralts while Espeon and Xatu had more HM usage. From there, I found that Xatu had the same 4 moves that Alakazam stands out so I ruled out alakazam. Between Espeon and Xatu, it depends mostly on if you want to use their HMs and they both have decent defense and special defense base stats. There are no Synch pokes that learn false swipe and/or Assist Frisk Spoiler Guide by Shamorunner further detailing the Impish build, insights into other frisk Pokemon, pickpocket builds, catching methods, and pickup guides Spoiler Pokemon: Banette Ability: Frisk Nature: Impish (Ideal) / Adamant IVs: 31 Attack, 31 Speed **HP as high as you can** EVs: 252 Attack, 200 Speed, 58 HP OR 252 HP, 252 Defense, 6 Special Defense Moves: Thief, Skill Swap, Trick, Imprison, Fling, Shadow Claw, Embargo, Curse, Taunt **Refer to Moves Explanation to pick your four moves** Egg moves: Destiny Bond, Disable, Foresight, Pursuit **If you pass egg moves to the final breed, they are re-learnable. This means you will have expanded the maximum moveset of your final breed** PREVO move: Astonish **PREVO moves are a way to obtain the move via leveling in a PREVO form. If you don't obtain the move in the previous (generally base) form, you can teach it via the move tutor.** EVs explanation: 200 Speed EVs allows you to outspeed all the hordes below and was calculated against the Pokemon hordes listed in the spoiler section below. All hordes were calculated at their maximum horde level, 31 speed IV, and a speed boosted nature to remove variables. Two hordes ended up determining the speed EVs. Pelipper hordes that can use tailwind and Electabuzz hordes that can paralyze Banette. Banette will remain faster than a +3 Pelipper. While I do have this EV spread listed, it really comes down to which hordes you intend on using Meowth for. In the additional link below, shamorunner did extensive research with his partners for an optimal thief banette and came out with 252 HP EVs and 252 Defense EVs with the last 6 in Special Defense. I will spare the explanation for that here as he has in-depth explanations for each section there. Moves Explanation: Thief should always be your first move added. The next three are up to you and the hordes you want to go for. Check the hordes below. Skill Swap can remove the sticky hold ability for Pokemon like Muk. Imprison + Fling can prevent Pelipper from using flinging lucky eggs. Trick allows for more longevity. Shadow Claw is a stab move just because. Embargo prevents the enemy from eating their item or flinging it and destroying it. Curse + Imprison prevents some shiny ghost types from fainting themselves. Taunt is for when you battle Level 80 absol swarms at Mt. Silver. Those absols will have perish song so you can taunt, switch to a pokemon that can trick/switcheroo assault vest, then focus on catching it. Moveset Ideas Spoiler #1: Thief, imprison, fling, curse #2: Thief, skill swap, embargo, taunt #3: Thief, ____, trick, Taunt [Taunt is for spiritomb in turnback cave as determined by @shamorunner Trick is for longevity and shadow claw is a STAB move just to have. As they're not necessarily needed in the movekit, I didn't add them in Notes: In a horde, more than one Pokemon can have a held item so you may want to have a second Pokemon that can use thief to be safe. SphealTeamSix
Do you find Heracross better than Dugtrio for single encounter increase? I was considering Dugtrio since Arena Trap both increases single encounters and prevents escape via Teleport, with the only downside being it doesn't have False Swipe. What's your opinion? I think Dugtrio is a nice idea with arena trap. A counter argument could be that dugtrio can't false swipe an abra, but you made a great point because Heracross can't trap it in battle and a smeargle with false swipe, mean look, spore, etc. doesn't have the swarm boost. With pokes like that, you could go for protect + ball spam to both keep dugtrio alive and increase the turn count. Good call! SphealTeamSix 1 Link to comment
Anon000
Would be cool to add the Camerupt to the Magma Armor section, since he looks cool (but not pink sadly) and his horde is a great place to farm XP. Link to comment
