Cydrazer
Ok, I love your idea, it sounds great! I just got an idea that could work as well, I just finished reading the "Side-Quest" thread, and why not combine TM's with Side-Quests. I'm talking about making Side-Quests that, when completed, would give you a TM or maybe even more. You could also have a choice between 2 or 3 TM's or something like that. Sorry for mini-hijack, love your idea, but I just think its unneccesary for me to create a seperate thread ^^. Link to comment
ChrisChris
I mentioned to Dark it would be interesting if an Icon was displayed next to their Name or such showing the "Trainer has a hunch" that the Pokemon might have something on them or are guarding an item, giving the Trainer more incentive to try and catch the Pokemon instead of just running away to get through the area faster. But the "hunch" could be wrong and there's nothing there at all. Always enjoyed this being a possibility. Link to comment
EmoClaw
I believe that this is a good idea, but may I suggest an addition? I have been thinking about if for awhile and me and my friends thought that some TMs should be available for purchase (Ex. Gym TMs), but for a high price. Say someone used Water Pulse already and need it again. You could have some TMs for purchase for 50,000 to 100,000 pokedollars..Which I believe sounds reasonable for the Gym TMs. This not only makes it to where one could obtain these again but it would also be a grinding experience to obtain the TMs. Make it an MMO with a challenge to get them. I would just like to see another TM shop put in but with higher prices so it's not as easy to get them. Feedback? Link to comment
Darkshade
That's what I was getting at... 7.5k pokedollars for hyper beam sounds a little cheap to me @Darkshade: I'd be really interested in seeing such a list. Well it took a good few hours. But with the help of Danii, Dormira and Patrick I have finally finished it (Sevii island Pokemon included) The lower the Pokemon is on the evolution scale, the rarer the TM is. TM 1 - Focus Punch Machop Machoke TM 2 - Dragon Claw Dratini Dragonair TM3 - Water Pulse Goldeen Seaking Psyduck Golduck TM 4 - Calm Mind Drowzee Hypno TM 5 - Roar Growlithe TM 6 - Toxic Weezing Koffing Tentacool Tentacruel TM 7 - Hail Swinub Piloswine TM 8 - Bulk Up Heracross TM 9 - Bullet Seed Bellsprout Weepinbell TM 10 - Hidden Power Unown TM 11 - Sunny Day Vulpix TM 12 - Taunt Zubat Golbat TM 13 - Ice Beam Seel Dewgong TM 14 - Blizzard Delibird TM 15 - Hyper Beam Gyarados TM 16 - LightScreen Natu Xatu TM 17 - Protect Shellder Krabby Kingler TM 18 - Rain Dance Poliwag Poliwhirl Horsea Seadra TM 19 - Giga Drain Tangela TM 20 - Safeguard Chansey TM 21 - Frustration Rhyhorn Tauros TM 22 - Solar Beam Hoppip Skiploom TM 23 - Iron Tail Onix Steelix TM 24 - Thunderbolt Pichu Pikachu TM 25 - Thunder Elekid Electabuzz TM 26 - Earthquake Cubone Marowak TM 27 - Return Cleffa Clefairy TM 28 - Dig Diglett Dugtrio TM 29 - Psychic Abra Kadabra TM 30 - Shadow Ball Gastly Haunter TM 31 - Brick Break Mankey TM 32 - Double Team Rattata Raticate TM 33 - Reflect Wobbuffet TM 34 - Shockwave Magnemite Magneton TM 35 - Flamethrower Slugma TM 34 - Sludge Bomb Grimer Muk TM 37 - Sandstorm Sandshrew Sandslash Larvitar TM 38 - Fire Blast Houndour TM 39 - Rock Tomb Geodude Graveler TM 40 - Aerial Ace Spearow Fearow TM 41 - Torment Murkrow TM 42 - Facede Senret Furret TM 43 - Secret Power Jigglypuff TM 44 - Rest Slowpoke Slowbro TM 45 - Attract Smoochum Jynx TM 46 - Thief Meowth Persian TM 47 - Steel Wing Skarmory TM 48 - Skill Swap Ditto TM 49 - Snatch Sneasel TM 50 - Overheat Magmar Patrick and Solar 2 Link to comment
Tokxilchaosz
I would recommend using max 5% drop for the 2nd evolutions, and 1% drop for the basic pokemon, or lower. That list looks pretty solid so far. Link to comment

vwPolo
Maybe it'd be an idea to sell TMs in stores, but for an extremely high price. The price being determined by the quality of the TM. Like Ice Beam costing more than Bide for example. This way getting in-game money actually is good for something. Link to comment

Money is already good for something, pokeballs, and every other item. Setting up a store cuts out the interaction with other people, and emphasis on trading. And to add to that - Money is helpful in this situation too. quit the talk here and impliment it allready !!!! gj DS Aha, thankyou :3 Link to comment

Jaiim
I think this has some merit, but do we really want certain TMs to be harder to find than lucky eggs? Look at Dragon Claw and Safeguard. You like torturing people or something? Safari Zone should not be included in this. Additionally, I understand having all the TMs listed for completion's sake, but why bother for TMs that are sold in Celadon? No one is gonna farm Diglets for Dig or Gyarados for Hyper Beam, they're gonna go to Celadon Department Store for those. Other than that, it's a solid idea. Link to comment
JS6786
to further balance this idea, shouldnt the TM for thief become rarer? As it stands, every player gets one copy for free, and the chance of getting more by grinding meowths. maybe the free copy should be removed from the game to make thief rarer? Link to comment
Darkshade
This is a good idea and you should FEEL good. Thankyou. No, I don't 'like torturing people' nor do people need to farm the TM's that are available in the store, it doesn't matter that they are already available, just that some Pokemon hold it. as if some TM's are going to be held, I feel all should, and then it could be a bonus if you catch X Pokemon Your mindset currently is that people are going out of their way to farm all the Pokemon in the list for the Celadon TM's. But that is not the case, having them available in the wild isn't 'pointless' as it were, as you could be casually catching Gyarados, and just have one pop up with a Hyper beam TM, and thus you've saved yourself money - or you could sell it for more money :3 Also, there are very good reasons Dratini and Dragonair hold Dragon Claw - Dragonite and Charizard are the only Pokemon available in FireRed who is are to learn it, and only Dragonite's predecessors are found in the wild. And Safeguard is a TM that protects your party from status problems, it fits perfectly on a chansey, and given that they already hold a lucky egg, people are going to attempt to farm them anyway. It won't be rarer than lucky egg, it will be around the same chances, but if it came down to it, their chances of holding the TM's could be increased in the safari zone. There are always fixes, and just because X Pokemon is rarer than another, doesn't make it any less of a good candidate than those found elsewhere. Some TM's will end up rarer than others, but that's just how it is. A lot of thought went into that list, and every Pokemon chosen has a good reason for being there. I hope that clears some things up. to further balance this idea, shouldnt the TM for thief become rarer? As it stands, every player gets one copy for free, and the chance of getting more by grinding meowths. maybe the free copy should be removed from the game to make thief rarer? If it were TOO rare, people would just make another account to get it. Persian is semi-rare in the wild as it is, and the TM would have a lower chance of being found on a Meowth. So I think it just about evens itself out, without needing to take a TM away from the original ones available. Everything can be balanced out via percentages quite nicely :3 Link to comment

I don't recall what the consensus was, but I remember reading an argument that thief would devalue TMs because the cost in pokeballs for catching a poke with the held TM would vanish. So if thief was only obtainable by first catching a meowth/persian with the item, it would up the value of TMs, which is an important goal. Since Meowths are so common, maybe only persians should be capable of holding it...but you're right, percentages could solve that. Main point: make players work for thief! Link to comment

Yeah, we did have a debate about that, I personally don't mind either way. Another fix would be to have thief not work on TM's. But personally I'd prefer it if it did, and you're right though - given that it's made available free in the main game currently, and already has been. It's too late to take it away, and it wouldn't really be fair if people expect it to be there. Whilst I agree with you it -might- devalue the TM's, players will still have to put a lot of time into finding them, and the community will eventually price them. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's what I was hoping for. JS6786 1 Link to comment
Heavenol
Perhaps it could be achieved with something like this: Remember the guy that loves big magikarps? Perhaps we could do it in the same way. A guy wants to see a specific pokemon and as a reward, he will give you a TM, depending on the pokemons type. Something like this can only be done one time per day. Link to comment

I don't think that the limiting factor right now should be the availability of Thief, as people who desperately want to grind for TMs will find a way do so anyway. Of course if this changes and there are tons of TMs being traded and the price is way down, I would not be averse to changing something. Link to comment
