Journal of Elizabeth “Liz” Magnolia, Pokémon Professor-in-training

==========================================================
Littleroot Town, Hoenn - 14 April
This is amazing, I can’t believe it.  I’m going to be an actual Pokémon Professor!  This is it!  Professor Hemlock of the Ilios region contacted me this morning; he read my thesis on the untapped energy potential of Pokémon and he’s decided that he wants me to succeed him when he retires!  That means moving to the Ilios region, but I’m actually looking forward to leaving home.  I’ve never once been out of Hoenn.  It feels small here, and I’m dying to see more of the world; there’s only so much I can get from books.  Even if I was nervous, I’d never let that get in the way of finally achieving my lifelong dream!  Of course I accepted.

We worked out the details over our Holo Castors—I’m going to Slateport City to meet with one of his aides in seven days’ time.  He says the only way to enter Ilios properly is by sea, which is exciting in itself.  I haven’t been on any adventures since my Pokémon journey years ago.  This is a wonderful change of pace to begin my new life!

I rushed over to Prof. Birch’s lab to tell him, and he already had some books on the Ilios region ready for me.  As it turns out, he sent Prof. Hemlock—the leading authority on the study of Pokémon energy—my paper.  He never doubted I would be offered the job, he says.  I don’t know how I’ll ever thank him properly.

I dug into the books as soon as I could.  Ilios is never where I expected to go, and I don’t know a lot about it.  Its name derives from a word in an old language I’ve never heard of, Greek, meaning the “sun” or “sunlight.”  It’s an extremely remote region, a small cluster of islands, smaller than Hoenn, but still manages to be the most efficient energy-producing of the core regions, having three major power plants.  All of them create energy exclusively from renewable sources—the sun, wind, and water.

Also, each island has its own unique set of flora and fauna.  It’s supposed to be the most diverse collection of Pokémon in the entire world.  I can’t wait to see for myself!  And I’ll be on my way in only one week!  Vigilance, my Manectric, is excited too.  When I told him where we’re going he could barely contain himself; I feel bad keeping him cooped up all the time since our journey ended, so I really think this trip will be good for him.  And for me, too.  I could have been stuck waiting like hundreds of other applicants, or become an aide for Prof. Birch or some other professor, but instead everything’s happening now, way sooner than I ever imagined.  I’m so excited I could scream.

Slateport City, Hoenn - 21 April
Staying overnight in Slateport.  We leave for Ilios tomorrow morning, first thing!  And it’s not just me and Vigilance anymore.  We met Prof. Hemlock’s aide, Desmond, this morning.  Red hair, young, maybe twenty-five.  I’m not sure how to feel about him.  He and I didn’t speak too terribly much except to introduce ourselves, and to talk about the trip and where our boat is docked.  He has a Weavile named Sneakers who's a devious thing.  I managed to get a quick picture of the two of them from over my shoulder.  They seem so serious.

It’s been a few months since I’ve been to Slateport, but I still know the city well enough.  It’s just as beautiful and busy as I remember.  Vigilance and I took a quick trip to the market, and I bought him some treats.  He’ll have to spend most of the sea voyage in his Poké Ball—can’t have him causing storms whenever he gets excited!—so I wanted to give him something to cheer him up.  He’s never liked being kept inside his ball for too long.

Anyway, tomorrow’s the big day!  I hope I can get some sleep!

Seas between Hoenn and Ilios - 22 April
Today I learned that I become horribly seasick on long voyages.  I thought I’d be fine—I spent quite a bit of time on the ocean when I was traveling with my Pokémon—but being on a boat for days is nothing like a short trip now and again on the back of a Pokémon.  Sweet Arceus, I feel awful.  I don’t know if I can take three days of this.
Metis Town, Ilios - 25 April
We landed in Ilios this morning, and it’s been a really busy day.  Thankfully, I felt completely fine as soon as I was back on dry land, and I’m almost glad I didn’t have time to be nervous about meeting Prof. Hemlock.  He met us as soon as we stepped off the boat.

When he called and asked me to be his successor, I didn’t really get the best look at him.  The Holo Castor only gave me a general idea—older, white hair, glasses, serious disposition.   He looked like an ordinary man.

I misjudged him completely, and he might be the farthest thing from serious!  He’s so full of life, it’s like he’s half his age.  His presence lights up a room and he’s always telling jokes, laughing.  I liked him immediately.

I asked him for a picture, and he stopped laughing just long enough for me to get a picture of his “serious face.”  I think he likes making everyone think he’s stern all the time!

We went to his lab first, which is the largest building in this place.  Metis town, it’s called, and it’s the smallest town in the region.  The lab is the sole modern building, surrounded by log cabins and personal gardens.  All of the energy the lab uses is created there, using solar panels and wind turbines.

Once we entered the lab, the first thing I noticed were the three Poké Balls sitting on the table in the middle of the room, containing Tepig, Snivy and Oshawot, the region's standard starters.  Just thinking that I’m going to be the one to give new trainers their first Pokémon makes me feel like this is a dream.  One of the first things I asked the Professor was about his field of study; I want to understand how he defines it.  Learn from the master himself.

In his own words:

“I study the mysterious energy of Pokémon that allows them to perform miraculous feats.  They breathe fire, they create nearly limitless quantities of water, they command plant life to sprout and grow and move.  These energies are colloquially quantified as Power Points, or PP.  We know that Pokémon can use only a finite amount of this energy before needing to recharge or rest.  Beyond that, we don’t know much.  Where does this power come from?  How did Pokémon come to use it?  Why are Pokémon the only creatures capable of using it?  That’s what I’m trying to find out.”

Prof. Hemlock also showed me his newly finished Pokédex prototype; it’s worn on the wrist, and projects images in a manner similar to the Holo Castor.  Apparently the device is much more than a standard Pokédex.  It can act as a watch, stopwatch, pedometer, allows a trainer to view her party’s status, and is capable of many other functions as well.  The professor says he wanted to create a convenient, wearable piece of technology that has all the functionality a Pokémon trainer needs.  I’m impressed.  He gave me one to try out, then sent me out to see the town.

The professor really wants me to understand the region, who its people are.  He wants me to go on a journey around the region with Desmond accompanying me.  “Get to the heart of the region and her people,” he said.  It’s poetic.  I’m definitely up for a little adventure.

Metis is a gorgeous place, with the sea to the west and a mountain to the east, and is very quiet and peaceful.  The town places a lot of pride in its artisan goods—everything from furniture to delicious homemade cooking and everything in between.  There’s no Pokémon Center or PokéMart, but there is a small shop that sells herbs for healing.  I even got to meet the local Poké Ball creator, Buck, who takes the Apricorns that grow around the region and crafts Poké Balls with them.  Those that live in Metis grow all their own produce and have deep respect for self-reliance, or so one of the older men in the village told me.  It seems like the people here would be a great influence on the young trainers who begin their journeys at the lab.

Others in the village have told me that the main form of transportation in the region is the ferry system, and many of the towns in the region are connected.  Sounds like a pleasant way to get around, seeing everything Ilios has to offer in the process.

Lake Umbra Beach, Ilios - 26 April
We’re not taking a ferry.

We’re walking.  We’re walking the entire way.

My feet ache already, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to walk the entire region.  We’ve stopped for the moment here near Lake Umbra Beach, the midpoint of Route 501 on the map Professor Hemlock gave me.  I’m glad for the break; I needed a rest and the air is refreshing, coming off the water.

I also wanted to take a look at all the Pokémon around us.  There aren’t very many trainers in this area except for those just starting out, so the Pokémon seem to have grown accustomed to people being a friendly presence.  The Flabébé are extremely friendly and float right up to us.  One wild Pikachu in particular has been following us and pestering my Manectric, who is doing his very best to behave.

The Bunnelby jump back into their burrows if you startle them too badly, and the Taillow seem to dive at them deliberately sometimes.  Caterpie and Weedle sometimes peek out at us from the tall grasses, and Wurmple as well—I recognize them from home, though they are far less common here than I’m used to.  The Bidoof look on, always confused, and closer to the water are Psyduck, Lotad, Poliwag, and who-knows-what lurks just under the waters’ surface.

I’m not used to seeing this many wild Pokémon, not since my own Pokémon journey.  It’s been a long time since I’ve been out of a lab or a library, and I’m enjoying myself sitting here, taking it all in.  I’m almost excited again to see the entire region, but then I remember; I’m not twelve years old anymore.  All this walking might kill me.

It’s going to be a very long trip.
Europa City, Ilios - 26 April
We’re spending the night in Europa’s Pokémon Center, after exploring the city all day.  There’s an amazing view of the ocean from the docks, but the view from the city isn’t bad either.  The sky was clear today as well, and it seems that many of the buildings here are painted to match; they’re all different shades of blue.  It’s beautiful.  Makes the forest to the south almost look blue.

As lovely as the city is, it’s stull bustling with activity.  The region’s Pokémon Trainer School is here and is just a few months away from wrapping up the current semester, so naturally there are a lot of children.  In fact, Europa is full of families.  There’s a small park that’s at the edge of the city, near the woods, and some of the older kids like to meet up around the town fountain.  There’s always laughter.

Another busy location is the Pokémon Contest Hall.  Desmond and I were able to watch a contest this morning, and even met some of the competitors afterwards.  It was a Beginner beauty rank contest, so it was a lot of newer trainers and not so many people came to watch.  Apparently the Contest Hall can be really hectic on a day when there are Master Rank contests, with massive crowds.

While not in the city, the Pokémon Day Care is just outside on Route 502.  I got to meet with the Day Care Couple, a lovely man and woman who have dedicated their lives to caring for the Pokémon of the region’s trainers.  They have a small staff on hand to care for them around the clock.  I offered to help out while I was there, and ended up grooming a Furfrou!  I even managed to rope Desmond into it as well.  I don’t think he enjoyed it nearly as much as I did.

Route 502 is filled with flowers, Flabébé, Surskit, Bellsprout, and Budew.  More Caterpie, Weedle, and Taillow are here as well.  Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ are rare, but I know I saw them.  They must be too shy to approach.

Tomorrow we cross Route 503 to the island city of Naiad and I’m a little sad to leave this place.  I hope I don’t get sick again.
Naiad City, Ilios - 27 April
I had a rough morning crossing the ocean on Route 503 to get to the island city of Naiad.  I started to feel better right before we reached the shoreline, though, so maybe I’ll get used to it.  We’re staying in the Naiad Hotel tonight rather than the Pokémon Center like we planned—this hotel is the only one of its kind before we reach Andromeda City, so I wanted to take the opportunity to get a good night’s rest!  Desmond didn’t complain when I suggested it.  Maybe all the walking is tiring him out as well?

Anyway!  Naiad is on the small side, but it has the hotel, a standard Pokémon Center, and a large enough population to warrant being called a city.  A Pokéathelon Dome is found on the north side of the island, down Route 505.  On the way there we saw all kinds of Pokémon missing from the mainland, playing on the flat grassland; Ponyta, Blitzel and Doduo dashing about, Spearow, Starley and Hopip floating high above, and Patrat, Gulpin, Sentret, and Inkay hiding in the tall grass.  The dome was mostly empty, and the nice lady behind the entry counter told us that we happened to be visiting on an off week.  It’s a shame.  I might have entered with Vigilance!  Desmond seemed dead set on doing a race with Sneakers, too.

The Pokéathelon may draw big crowds, but it’s the Hydroelectric Dam toward the south that keeps a constant flow of visitors flocking to the island.   It not only supplies power to the region but also contains the first Pokémon Gym new trainers will have to face!

We visited the gym as soon as we could.  Jack, the Gym Leader, was extremely welcoming and showed us around the dam while he spoke to us.  He’s an older man, maybe sixty-five, balding, and lots of tattoos.  He used to be a sailor, he told us—a captain.  When he retired from the seas, he was still interested in continuing his Pokémon battling career or sharing his experiences with others.  In the end he got both!  He loves his new position as water type Gym Leader and says he’s never been happier.

He showed us his gym’s badge, the Pirate Badge.  The design was inspired by Jack’s days as a sailor!

36d9a09f96.png

We were going to head toward Mars City, which is right across the dam on the other side of Route 4, but the path was blocked by construction.  Apparently there’s maintenance done on the dam fairly often to keep it in tip-top shape.  Looks like we’re following the routes in gym order.

Rest of the day was mostly uneventful.  Desmond was oddly quiet, but told me nothing was wrong when I asked.  He’s an odd one.

Back to Europa tomorrow!  We’re going to head through the woods, toward Triton Town!
Europa Woods, Ilios - 29 April
The forest was dark and quiet during the day, but also peaceful and pleasant, not unlike the Petalburg Woods I remember from my childhood.  It felt familiar.

Now it’s night and everything’s suddenly unfamiliar and noisy.   It’s terrifying, and I want to go home.

I can’t let on to Desmond that I’m afraid though, or I’ll never live it down.  He doesn’t think I can handle this trip even if he hasn’t said as much.  He gives me these looks, like he’s better than me.  I feel like he’s right sometimes, but I’ll never admit it to him.  I’ll get better at traveling.  I used to travel at lot, once upon a time.

In any case, he’s the one who got us turned around, saying he knew a shorter way through.  Said he didn’t need the path.  He’d still have us stumbling around in the dark if I hadn’t insisted we stop and camp for the night.

“Adventure rule #23: Never stray from the path!”  It’s written right here, in the Little Red Adventure Rulebook my best friend bought for me when we both left home.  It’s one of the sillier things I packed, but it didn’t feel right to leave it at home.

But my point still stands.  Even children know not to wander around aimlessly in a forest full of wild Pokémon!

Speaking of Pokémon, there’s more variety here than I’ve seen anywhere else in Ilios so far.  Fortunately there hasn’t been anything too dangerous yet.  During the day there were a lot of Pachirisu, Deerling, Zigzagoon, and Oddish scampering around. Caterpie, Spinarak and Wurmple were pretty common as well, though much more quiet.  Taillow flew off whenever we got too close and Farfetch’d were here and there, usually alone. I saw a few Metapod stuck to the undersides of tree branches, Cascoon and Silcoon as well.

Once night fell, the Weedle came out of hiding as did the occasional Dustox, nearly invisible in the dark.  Shroomish waddled about and bumped into trees nearly as much as we did.  I even saw one Phantump, or I thought I did.  Des said it was my imagination.

We have our lanterns, so we have light, but it’s pretty cold here.  And the bugs like the light.  We turned it lower; that helped a little.

Desmond is being even quieter than normal.  I don’t know what to say to him, because it was his idea to come here, so I just gave him some of the snacks I bought back in Europa.  Going to try to get some sleep now.  Hope he’s okay.
Triton Town, Ilios - 30 April
We made it to Triton Town around noon.  Vigilance is no bloodhound so he couldn’t find us the path out of the woods, but he did lead us right to a certain curious little Pikachu.  Seems to be the same one that took an interest in Vigilance way back at Umbra Beach!  She pesters Vigilance the same way, giving him a little zap right on the nose.

The little Pikachu led us right back to the path, dashing ahead and looking back at us until we almost caught up to her, then taking off again.  It was an easy walk once we got back on track!  Either way I’m never stepping off the path again.  Next time we might not have a wonderful little Pikachu to lead us to safety.

Then again, we might!  I’m considering trying to catch her.  Vigilance loves having her around, and she’s so cute!

But back to business.  Triton Town is a fishing village that survives and thrives because of the sea.  There are fishermen all over the docks and the shoreline; a lot of fishermen means a lot of fish, which are shipped all over the world.  Boats sail past all day long—both coming and going—making for a wide variety of goods being sold.

I met a happy old fisherman who called himself the Fishing Guru, and he gave me an Old Rod.  Accepting it inadvertently entered me in the local fishing contest.  I could only catch Magikarp so I never stood a chance, but I had a marvelous time.  Des won—he caught a Wailmer.  I’ve never seen him enjoy himself so much.

After getting soaked because of a certain someone’s newest Ball Whale Pokémon, we headed to the Triton Dept. Store and bought some new clothes since what we had on was ruined.  The building had a massive selection.  I bought a few Ultra Balls and got a Poké Doll for Vigilance, then Des and I headed back to the Pokémon Center for the night.

Funny thing, though.  There are a bunch of weird characters dressed in costumes standing in front of the bridge to Andromeda City.  I don’t think they know how ridiculous they look based on how serious they act.  They refuse to let anyone into the city, but we weren’t heading that way yet.

Not sure I like the look of them, though.
Sirius City, Ilios - 1 May
Pixel the Pikachu is now my newest Pokémon!  She and Vigilance are inseparable.

They’re really starting to bother the Nurses here at the Pokémon Center though, running around and playing, but I like seeing them happy.

Today was pretty standard.  We went down Route 506 to the Plutonian Caves, which weren’t so bad on this side.  From Triton to Sirius there’s a really short, straight path that couldn’t get much more direct.  We didn’t have to worry much about wild Pokémon, as there were only a few Geodude and Zubat to trip us up.  I’d heard a rumor that Clefairy lived in the caves, but we didn’t encounter any.

Coming out of those caves to see the Ilios Lighthouse?  The view was breathtaking.  Sirius City might be my favorite area in the region so far, especially with all the gorgeous ashy-red foliage.  We only crossed a small bridge to get here, but it’s like a different world!

Sirius is a lovely cape town with a huge lighthouse at its southernmost point.  I asked around, and apparently it can be seen for miles and is still operational, even though most ships use electronic navigation now.  The Pokémon Gym is the city’s biggest draw, and apparently it’s a family business.  The rest of the city is rather sleepy; a lot of older folks live here and they love the quiet isolation the mountain offers, blocking them off from the rest of the region.

Des and I climbed to the top of the lighthouse before we even visited the gym.  We had a few battles along the way, actually; Vigilance had a blast showing off in front of Pixel, and he really needed the exercise.  Up at the beacon, we met George.  He’s the current caretaker of the lighthouse and the new gym leader’s father.  A short, orange-haired man in his late fifties, he seemed genuinely thrilled to see us.  His son had recently taken over the gym from him, he said.  He glowed when he spoke about him; he was so proud.

He walked with us out of the lighthouse and to the gym, guiding us though the gym’s puzzle, a simple maze.  He’d clearly been through it many times before, and he knew all the gym’s trainers as well.  The leader was waiting for us at the end, and he certainly resembles his father!

He has the same fiery-orange hair and slightly tanned skin, and the same contagious smile.  He introduced himself as Sam, the fire type Gym Leader of Ilios.  Turns out he’s younger even than me, only nineteen years old!  His Growlithe really liked Vigilance, so we let them play a while.  We actually ended up talking for hours, since it just so happened he didn’t have any challengers today.  I even got to meet his three younger brothers!  Des was genuinely interested in hearing about the life of a Gym Leader and just about him in general.  I think Des is starting to warm up to me and to this trip in general.  Right as we were saying goodbye and leaving for the Pokémon Center, Sam showed us his gym’s badge—the Sanctuary Badge.  Its design was definitely inspired by the lighthouse.

All considered, it was quite a day!

Phobos City, Ilios - 2 May
This morning we made the long trip through the Plutonian Caves, and we almost got badly turned around.  Finally did get to see some of those Clefairy, and just about everything else living there.  Geodude, Onix, Aron, Roggenrola, Paras, Whismur, and the occasional Joltic, we saw them all, and many, many, many times at that.  It took us forever to get out of the caves, but eventually we managed.  I think we’re getting a little better at exploring!

Route 508 was unexpectedly creepy and unsettling, since I was hoping for more beautiful views of the ashy-red trees.  The cave exit left us looking at a foggy forest route, a large purple building in the distance and what appeared to be a beach to the east.

After struggling through the forest—there were a lot of Gastly, Haunter, Shuppet, Duskull, and Murkrow getting in our way—we made it to the “beach.”  What we found was not a beach.  The Sheer Cliffs, as they’re known, are a stretch of land where it appears the world has fallen away.  Looking down made me dizzy.  It’s a dramatic drop down to the water and sharp rocks below, hundreds of feet.  There’s a tall fence across most of the cliff’s length, with bows tied all over it, all sorts of different colors and shapes.  I didn’t understand what they meant at first.

Then out of nowhere a little girl with black hair and violet eyes wearing a black dress appears out of the fog!  My heart almost stopped; she introduced herself in voice that was just above a whisper.  Willow is her name, and she’s the ghost type Gym Leader of Phobos City, and she had some interesting news for us.  Apparently, the Sheer Cliffs are a popular suicide location.  Just thinking about it makes me sick.

We walked the rest of the way with Willow, and I was uncomfortable the entire way.  She makes me anxious.

Her gym is on the edge of town, so we went there first.  There was a simple teleport pad puzzle—which Willow was able to show us through easily—and then we were in the Gym Leader’s room.  Ghost type, obviously.  The whole gym was designed like some sort of foreign building, what was once called a church by certain sects.  Her Fear Badge is shaped like a skull, which I might have thought was cute if I hadn’t been surrounded by Trevenant and Misdreavus.  I made sure we were out of there as soon as possible.

a19c7ce541.png

Apparently though, the entire city of Phobos is a little into the darker side of things.  Graves, memorials, dark clothing, dreary colored buildings—just gloom and doom everywhere.  Even the Pokémon Center is a darker color than the traditional vibrant red.  The fog doesn’t help either.

I just want to be as far away from this place as possible, so we’re leaving early tomorrow.  Funny thing though.  Des doesn’t seem fazed by any of it.
Oberon Town, Ilios - 3 May
Route 509 took us away from dark, foggy Phobos and back to the beautiful visuals I remember from Sirius City.  The path was bright and bursting with Pokémon.  Murkrow were still popular, along with Noctowl and Xatu, but they didn’t bother me once I was out of that fog.  Honestly I don’t know why it bothered me so much.  Poochyena and Mightyena are pretty common around here.  Liepard can be seen rarely, and they’re a beautiful sight, their purple bodies melting into the reddish tress.  We were making great time until we reached the bridge separating Phobos from Oberon.

Of course there’s a damn Snorlax on the bridge!  We had our Pokémon attack it, but it would just roll over and snore louder, not caring at all.  It got to the point where we were going to have to turn back when Willow appeared—again out of thin air!—this time with a PokéFlute.  She might scare me half to death, but she plays the instrument beautifully.

The Snorlax woke up immediately, angry.  I had Vigilance ready to go, but Desmond was faster.  Or Sneakers was.  She thrashed the Snorlax, who retrated back into the forest, probably returning to the mountains if all the legends I’ve heard are correct.  I’d never seen a Snorlax before, only read about them.

We thanked Willow for helping us out, then quickly made our way to Oberon.

The first thing I noticed was that the trees look familiar, just like the ones in Metis, and it took me a minute to remember that we’re back on the same island as the Professor’s lab, except on the opposite side of the mountain.  It’s cold over here, especially with the air coming off Umbra Lake.  It’s no wonder the town decided to host an ice type gym.

The Gym Leader, Annie, was just outside her gym, and she called Des over when she saw him.  I didn’t find it particularly odd until I noticed he was acting as if he didn’t know her at all, when she very obviously knew him.  I mean, she asked about Sneakers.  How many strangers know his Pokémon’s nickname?

Makes me wonder.

Well.  Anyway.  Annie is a younger woman, around twenty-seven or twenty-eight who apparently doesn’t care much for the cold, ironically.  She likes to bundle herself up in jackets, scarves, gloves and to keep herself out of the icy weather.  She’s an extremely warm and friendly girl, though.  Bubbly, even.

She offered to take us to the Oberon Ice and Dragon Caves, but she had a challenger so she just pointed us in the right direction and showed us her Icy Badge.  It’s a cloud containing ice crystals.

3f1e47856e.png

To get to the caves we had to walk through town, which was only a short way.  We passed an ice skating rink and a few small residences, but the town is small so we were at the caves in no time.

The Ice Caves make up the lower area of the Oberon Caves, and the Dragon Caves are the area above.  This natural order keeps the powerful dragon types away from the base of the mountain and the town, so it’s the perfect arrangement.  We didn’t spend too much time in either area, but in the icy sections we saw Snorunt, Piloswine, Sneasel, Delibird, Cubchoo, Bergmite, Golduck, and Walrein.  I know I saw a Weavile that wasn’t Sneakers, and maybe even a Lapras.  I can’t be sure.  Higher up we saw only smaller dragons; Axew, Dratini, Gible, Bagon, and Deino were all about, but extremely rare compared to the Zubat and Golbat that were in both areas.  There don’t appear to be many adults, if there are any at all.

We asked about this back in town when we were heading to the Pokémon Center for the night.  The locals said that the dragons come in cycles, and this part of the cycle happens to involve only young ones.  It will be years yet until they mature.

We also heard a few whispers about strange happenings in Andromeda City.  We’re heading there next so I hope it’s nothing too serious.  I wonder if it’s about those people in costumes?

Andromeda City, Ilios - 4 May
We’re finally here in the capital city!  I’ve always wanted to see it, ever since I first saw images of it in my university texts.  There’s a gorgeous, green forest that takes up the entire center of the city, called Viridescent Forest.  It’s beautiful.  Also, all of the tallest buildings are outfitted with solar panels.  Andromeda is both literally and figuratively a very green place! We don’t have anywhere comparable to it back in Hoenn.

There are so many shops and restaurants, I didn’t know where to start.  From Poké Ball specialty shops to massive office buildings, the city has something for everyone I’m sure!  There are even two Pokémon Centers, one on each side of the forest.

The biggest building in the city is Trainer Skyscraper, where trainers can battle each other and compete for the highest consecutive winning streak.  We didn’t get a chance to visit this time, but I plan on giving it a try eventually!

We went to the Pokémon Gym right away, meeting with Mitchell, the Steel type Gym Leader of the city.  He’s extremely musical and a gentleman, which was surprising considering his rough appearance.  He plays the guitar really well and likes his music loud, really taking his Gym’s association with metal very seriously!  Around twenty-five, he has long brown hair and always wears a Viking helmet, which is the inspiration for his Gym’s badge, the Helmet Badge.

I was impressed with how well he knew the city; he gave us some great suggestions about what we should check out while we were here and what we should avoid at all costs.  Before we went on our way, he warned us that there’s been a lot of strange things going on, and there always seem to be individuals wearing red and blue costumes near where it’s happening.  The same individuals from Sirius Town, it seems like.

We ran into these people first at the GTS, where they were preventing trainers from entering.  They were saying things about technology and advancement, and I’m not positive what I heard, but they were adamant about keeping everyone out.  I tried to stay out of the way.  Desmond was a different story altogether!  He walked right up to them and ran them off with Sneakers, like it was nothing.

Sometimes I feel like I don’t know who I’m traveling with; he’s a scary battler.  Extremely talented.

We walked around the city for most of the day, and explored the forest a little.  It’s very well maintained.  A lot of rare species live there—Eevee and Chansey, most notably—but there are also Ralts, Skitty, Lillipup, and Pidove.

Overall I had a nice day, but I’m worried about those costumed jerks.  I hope they’re gone for good.

Ceres Town, Ilios - 5 May
Leaving Andromeda was hard.  It’s such an amazing city, and I could even see myself living there.  Willing or not, we headed down Route 512 and encountered another completely new environment.   It’s nothing but plains for miles and miles.  I originally thought that the Wind Power Plant was just a short walk away, but I couldn’t have been more wrong—it only appeared to be close.  I saw many new species of Pokémon; Grumpig, Patrat, Pidgeotto, Mareep, Jigglypuff, Gogoat, and rarely even Tauros are all out and about.  They don’t seem to mind us much, so they must be used to a lot of foot traffic.

After a while we passed by a farm, with Mareep, Skiddo, and Miltank all playing together.  There are also fields of berries and other plants.  It was beautiful, and fun, too!  A Stoutland followed us for a bit when we walked past, keeping the other Pokémon safe.

We arrived at the Power Plant in the afternoon, but the strangers wearing red and blue were already there.  They had everyone who worked there trapped inside!  I was afraid of what they might be capable of, but Desmond muscled his way into the building, and I felt like a child waiting for him outside.  If people are trapped, it’s a good thing to go in and help them, right?

The two of us easily battled our way through the building.  They weren’t like any battles I’d had before—fast-paced, frantic, and angry.  At times, our opponents commanded their Pokémon to attack us!  We eventually chased them all off and freed the workers.  Team Quantum, they called themselves.  They said they were far from done with us, though.  A few of them said something about reporting back to their boss.  I don’t like this.

We made it to Ceres Town, and it’s filled with flowers!  Everyone here tends gardens and grows berries, so the whole town is bursting with color!  Agriculture is at the core of this town.

While I was walking around and talking to everyone, an elderly man took a moment to talk to me about the history of Ilios.  Founded much later than other regions, Ilios was settled with the idea of being a completely self-sufficient region because of the variety found on its landmasses.  While Ilios does produce sufficient resources to stand alone, the region has flourished because of trade overseas.  No one can do things completely on their own, the old man said.  The world is a big place, but it can be lonely if you have no one to depend on.

We went to the Gym in the late afternoon.  Waiting for us just inside was a young man, about twenty years old, with dark skin, black hair, and a kind smile.  He introduced himself as Timothy, the grass type Gym Leader of the Ilios region!  His badge is the Clover Badge.

20baf0232b.png

He had apparently heard we were coming.  He and Sam, the Gym Leader from back in Sirius City, are best friends.  They’ve been close ever since they traveled together during their Pokémon journey.  Timothy invited us to go berry picking in his personal garden—which makes up most of his Gym!—and then we went on a picnic.  Everything was delicious!  We were even invited to stay with one of the older couples in the village who had some extra rooms.  Everyone’s so friendly!  Ceres is a really wonderful place.

Arche Town, Ilios - 6 May
Another extremely long day!

We headed down Route 513 and the terrain immediately started to get rocky as we headed toward the mountains.  The rough landscape was pretty, but it made walking a bit harder.  I can’t believe how much easier traveling is now compared to when I started, even when the ground is uneven.  We stopped to briefly take in the view before entering the cave; we could see the island where the Ilios League is held.  It sits in the middle of Ilios Bay, surrounded by strong currents and rocks.  We’ll be heading there soon!

Mount Jupiter seemed massive from our perspective, and it’s certainly a massive system of caves.  We encountered completely new Pokémon again; Woobat and Swoobat hung down from the ceiling, Dunsparce hid between the rocks, Solrock and Lunatone float about aimlessly.  There were even Carbink, which I’ve only read about—they’re extremely odd Pokémon.

We almost got lost yet again, but some hikers found us and guided us outside.

And it was hot!  Arche Town is in an actual desert, cactus and all. But it’s a bit greener than I ecpected.  Never seen anything quite like it.  The town itself is small, centered on the Pokémon Gym.  All of the buildings are modest, and large canopies protect them from the sun.  It was strange though.  Very few people were outside, though we saw them peeking out at us from their windows.

Not knowing what else to do, we went to the Gym.  We had to navigate the puzzle, pressing buttons in a specific order to drain sand from the room, revealing the path forward.  Des sat back and let me work it out this time, rather than help me.  I think I did it fairly quickly!

The Gym Leader, Eugene, uses poison type Pokémon.  He’s in his forties, with a mean-looking sneer, a shaved head, and more tattoos than I cared to count.  He acted tough and arrogant at first, but once he realized we weren’t there to challenge him, his demeanor changed completely.  Instead of a tattooed hothead, he was a concerned sweetheart.   He offered us some water and talked to us a bit about the recent happenings in the village after showing us his Fang Badge.

6070af6fd9.png

Apparently, the Solar Power Plant to the south had been hijacked by Team Quantum a few days before and as of yet Eugene had been unable to stop them.  He was horribly worried about the workers inside.  Des jumped on the opportunity to help, and I surprised myself by agreeing to go with them.  I was nervous, but I wanted to be part of whatever was going to happen.

Route 514 to the power plant was an easy walk, since there wasn’t much wind to whip the sand into our faces, and we had plenty of water.  We saw tons of Pokémon, and quite a few I recognize from back in Hoenn.  Cacturne, Claydol, and Vibrava are particularly familiar.  I even saw one Flygon, which watched us intently, hovering in place.  There are also Donphan, Heliolisk, Sandslash, Krokorok, and Hippowdon.

I wasn’t expecting the fields of solar panels to look very impressive, but there was an odd beauty about them, all those shiny black squares shimmering in the heat.

Des and Eugene chased off the guards at the entrance easily enough, and we worked our way inside.  There were a lot more grunts this time around.  Apparently we’d ruffled their feathers enough to warrant an increase in security this time around.

Vigilance, Pixel, and I could handle ourselves well enough that Des and Eugene decided to go ahead while I finished up the grunts.  I also managed to find and free the imprisoned workers.

When I finally met back up with Des and Eugene they were battling a man in a strange white suit—the boss!—and two of his admins.  They were having some trouble, from what I could tell.  Eugene’s Serviper looked worn down, and Sneakers was taking some bad hits from the boss’s Electivire.

Vigilance jumped in to draw away the electric type attacks, but Des did something I’ve never seen him do.  He called out another Pokémon!

A large red Krookodile came out fighting, and with one powerful Earthquake, the battle was over for the boss and the admins!

Before slinking off, the man in the suit introduced himself as Luis, head of Team Quantum.  He claimed that his team had reached their goal at the power plant, and that their plans were far from ruined.

The sun was going down as we headed back to the Pokémon Center.  The desert was even prettier at night.

I tried to focus on the landscape, rather than worry about what Team Quantum is up to.

Mars City, Ilios - 8 May
Things are getting interesting, and fast.

The good news is I’m almost completely over my seasickness!  On the ride across Route 515—we got to take another of those nice ferries!—I wasn’t very nauseous at all.  Pelipper flew alongside us the entire way.  Des didn’t think I saw, but he was tossing them berries.

We landed at the Mars Docks, and the sight of the forest that covers most of the island was breathtaking.  The trees are a vibrant, reddish orange color that makes everything glow.

Route 516 was another experience in terms of Pokémon I’ve never seen before.  Pyroar are common, which I thought was a bit scary.  They’re predators, after all, and fire types at that!  Des tells me that the trees are actually more resistant to fire than other species, so it’s rarely ever a problem.  It’s pretty amazing.  Rattata, Scatterbug, Spewpa, Seviper, and Zangoose are also popular here, I even saw Lopunny and Skuntank, though they’re far more rare.

Mars City was a sight to see, with rather tall, red buildings making up most of the town.  They really shine with all the bright foliage around.  The Space Museum, Pokémon Gym, and Safari Zone are the three main draws of the large island city, but those that live here have a vested interest in the massive, maze-like forest on the west side of the island.

We visited the Pokémon Gym first, but the leader wasn’t there; according to those we asked, he has a retreat for himself inside Labyrinth Forest that he visits every so often.  We were also warned to avoid visiting the Space Museum, or the Research Facility to the north—Team Quantum is there, and their base of operations is the museum.  We’ll have to deal with them soon.

We decided to head into the forest first, both to take a look around and to see if we could find the Gym Leader.  There was an amazing variety of Pokémon living underneath the orange canopy!  I saw Ninjask, Stantler, Vivillon, Staravia, Staraptor, Fletchinder, Cherrim, Ambipom, and even Zoroark.  We managed not to get lost this time, choosing all the right paths on our first trip through!  I guess we’re getting better at adventuring.

We found our way to a small cottage partially hidden by some trees, and before we could even knock, the door swung open and a large man stepped out, smiling pleasantly.  He had kind dark eyes and sandy blond hair, and looked to be about thirty.  We introduced ourselves and he laughed as he pulled us into a sudden hug.  His name was Joe, and he’s the psychic type gym leader of Ilios.  He’s extremely pleasant, with a reassuring and warm air about him.  He told us that he came to his cabin so that he could meditate and sensed that we were coming, and that we could help with the Team Quantum problem.  He doesn’t feel he’s strong enough to stop them on his own.

302ddc2ad3.png

After walking back to Mars with him—and watching then sunset, which was fantastically beautiful!—we decided to meet tomorrow and thwart Team Quantum for good!
Mars City, Ilios - 9 May
We never had time to organize.

There were strange lights and sounds coming from the Research Facility; it was so bright, I almost thought the sun was coming up, but it was still the middle of the night!  I rushed to find Des, since clearly something was going on.

He was already at the water’s edge, a Sharpedo waiting for him to climb on.  And he was going to leave without me!  He said it was dangerous, that whatever Team Quantum was up to clearly goes beyond stealing energy from a few power plants.  He was afraid I wasn’t up to it.

Even though I was nervous, and not the best trainer in the world, I insisted on going with him.  He reluctantly loaned me the Wailmer he’d caught back in Triton Town so that I could cross to the island and then zipped off on his Sharpedo.  The Wailmer swam along slowly, and by the time I reached the shore he had vanished into the building.  I swear he did it on purpose!

By the time I made it there, most of the grunts were fleeing the island.  Horrific roars came from above me, close by; I almost wanted to turn back.  Instead, I called out Vigilance and Pixel, made sure Desmond’s Wailmer was safely in his ball, and then charged into the Science Facility.

I had to stop almost immediately, as there was a giant hole in the middle of the building.  Dialga, of all things, floated in the center, roaring.  Broken machinery sparked, eerily lighting up the night.

Luis, the Team Quantum boss, stood in front of the legendary and shouted nonsense.  He claimed he and his team had found a way to advance technology using the power of the legendary Time Pokémon.  He claimed he could control it, and would use it to take over and destroy what he pleased.  Des stood in front of the madman, but he didn’t seem worried.  He had his full Pokémon team out and ready for battle.

Weavile, Krookodile, Honchkrow, Houndoom, Hydreigon, and even Sharpedo were taking on the rampaging Dialga, easily landing attacks despite the legendary’s powerful Roar of Time.  Just hearing it was almost more than I could take, as glimpses of the past and future flashed around me.  I can’t imagine how strong his Pokémon must be to endure it.

It took some time, but Dialga finally collapsed and the Team Quantum boss collapsed with it.  The legendary wasn’t down for long, and it disappeared with a roar once it could stand.

The Team Quantum boss escaped off the island before we could stop him, screaming something about not being finished.

When we got back to Mars City, Joe was waiting for us.  There were news reports coming in from all over about two seemingly separate incidents.  At the Oberon Dragon Caves, the baby dragon types were suddenly missing, with only decades old dragons being found.  Also, ships were disappearing from the seas around Route 520.  Not sunk—simply gone, all contact broken.

Des says it’s the balance between Palkia and Dialga being disrupted.  Dialga would naturally gravitate toward the presence of the Oberon dragons; when it was disturbed by Team Quantum, it’s very likely the Pokémon around it experienced a shift in time—and aged years in a matter of moments.

As for the vanished ships, Des also suspects that Palkia sensed Dialga’s distress and began using its own powers.  Anything within range could have been moved through space.

This whole ordeal is giving me a headache.

Victory Road Entrance, Ilios - 12 May
It’s been three days since Des and I stopped Team Quantum over at the Research Facility, but things have gotten even more awe-inspiring!  This morning we left Andromeda City over Route 520 on the back of Desmond’s newly-evolved Wailord, encountering almost nothing but Pelipper, Tentacool, and Tentacruel.  When we reached the halfway point between Andromeda and Sirius, we had to keep a close eye out for a certain dark spot in the water—and once we found it, we dove down beneath the waves!  We were completely safe thanks to our Rebreathers, a handy little device that filters air for us to breathe when under water.

The Pokémon below are much more varied than those at the surface—Wailmer, Crawdaunt, Dragalge, Mantine, Magikarp, and even Gyarados—but the most breathtaking of all was Palkia!  The legendary Palkia!  I didn’t really believe it at first, but it was right in front of us, in the middle of the ocean!  I guess now we know what was causing those ships to vanish around Sirius City!  Palkia is able to open spatial distortions, meaning a ship could seemingly disappear and then reappear an impossible distance away.

The legendary Pokémon appeared before us for only a moment, then faded away before our eyes.  I know Palkia supposedly lives between dimensions, but I never quite believed it before now.  I’ve never been more in awe.

We reached the Pokémon Center in the late afternoon—some stronger currents held us up—and decided to tackle Victory Road the following day.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep.  First our encounter with Dialga, now this?
Ilios League - 13 May
Victory Road wasn’t really that much of a challenge.  I know a lot of younger trainers say that they breezed right through it, but this was different.  It still took us time, but we stopped getting lost, stopped having trouble with the Pokémon we encountered, and I stopped getting tired so quickly.  It’s really impressive how much we’ve grown.  Mostly me, of course.

Coming up out of the caves to see the beautiful Ilios League building brought back memories of when I made it to Ever Grade City in Hoenn for my Pokémon League challenge.  Of course I didn’t win, but the feeling of seeing my goal with my own eyes for the first time?  It’s still with me, and I felt it again today.

The Elite Four members were waiting for me in the lobby.  They have a certain energy that draws all attention in the room directly to them.

The first to introduce herself—and the first a trainer would face—was Caroline.  Rather short and only about twenty-seven years old with short, curly black hair and green eyes, she was a bit shy and stuttered every once in a while.  Apparently she’s an archaeologist, so her specialty is fossil Pokémon, specifically of the rock type.

As soon as she finished speaking, a goggle-wearing man in his sixties with graying black hair and sharp blue eyes rushed up to me and firmly shook my hand.  He’s Charles, he told me, former pilot and master of the flying type.  His best friend and rival is Jack of Naiad City, the very first gym leader of Ilios.  His smile is sly as he says it’s “damn poetic” for the two friends to be among the first and last challenges anyone taking on the league will face.  You should never forget where you came from, he says, since it’s a reflection of where you’re going.

Now, what happened next, I should have seen coming from a mile away.  The superior Pokémon, the confidence in battle, his knowledge about the legendaries, his familiarity with some of the Gym Leaders—all of it’s painfully obvious now.  While I was speaking to Caroline and Charles, Des had moved over to stand with the members of the Elite Four, where he belonged.

He took a step toward me, a wicked smile on his face, and introduced himself as Desmond, part-time assistant to Professor Hemlock, and the third member of the Ilios League’s Elite Four.  Champion of dark type Pokémon, they call him.  What a show-off.

Even though I was disappointed he never told me, I can’t be mad at him.

The final member of the Elite Four, a blonde woman, pushed past him to get closer to me, her bright gold eyes and dazzling smile lighting up her face.  She waved and introduced herself as the leader of the Elite Four, Courtney.  A specialist in bug types, she was a bug catcher in Europa Woods when she was much younger.  Even if she doesn’t look it with all her pink lipstick and perfectly manicured nails, her passion for creepy-crawly Pokémon couldn’t be stronger.  “Not all of our interests have to show in our appearances.”  Wise words!

Right as Courtney was finishing up her speech, an extremely tanned, handsome young man with dark brown hair ran in wearing an unbuttoned white shirt.  Courtney sighed and identified him as the current Champion of the region, a “twenty-year-old kid.”  Her words, not mine!

He apologized for being late, shaking my hand warmly.  His name is Fernando, and he doesn’t have a Pokémon specialty outside of only using Pokémon that “completely wreck everything.”  His smile is completely disarming.

Together they officially welcomed me to Ilios and congratulated me on my position as future Pokémon Professor.

Desmond’s words stuck with me for hours afterward: “Welcome home,” he said, after everyone else had left.
Metis Town, Ilios - 28 May
I can’t believe what an adventure that turned out to be!  It’s been a little over two weeks since the Ilios League, and now I’m back with Professor Hemlock in Metis Town.  Working with him is everything I ever imagined, and so much more!  Des and I see each other all the time, since he lives here in Metis, and only rushes off to the Pokémon League when there’s a challenger.  I couldn’t have asked for a better friend.  Ever since we stopped Team Quantum, things have been going back to normal; the dragon Pokémon of Oberon reverted to their true ages after Dialga returned to its rightful place, and the lost ships have been reappearing since balance with Palkia was restored.  Everyone is trying to get back to their lives, but we’ll have to be vigilant!  Team Quantum isn’t gone, not quite yet.

Who knows?  Maybe one of the trainers who begins their journey in this very lab will finish them off for good!

Region ~ Aipera
The name Aipera derives from the Greek word “apeiros” meaning infinite and the Greek adjective for wild, angry “kolera”. Aipera's real place is Sicily. Beware of cultural clichés.

Same as Sicily most of Aipera's surface is covered by mountains and hills, with some coasts, beaches and one large plain. Aipera grows various types of grass with yellow and green hues. The central part bursts with hill sides and rough landscapes, the north-east with lush forests. Due to de-forestation all woodland disappeared in the south-west parts. To the north-east, down the mountain and north of Telio, there is a narrow strait that leads to yet unexplored land. And around this all is the azure sea.

In summer it can get unbelievingly hot, spring and autumn are milder and winter boasts comfortable temperatures.

The people are generally strong-minded and proud and strive to live merrily. They can be quite exuberant and the way they throw around gestures might look agressive to some.

Sicily/Aipera has a long list of conquerors and with those arrived arts, architecture and diversity. From egypt to greek to rome, everything can be found here. I tried to add lots of unique stuff from Sicily + to give it a more fantasy feel.

Features
Gameplay: more interactive & dynamic, there are reactions to mini actions like light reflecting on glass (Sabbia Ruins) or voice spelling a letter (Mt. Lipari).

Pokémon and some events depend on seasons.

TMs and most items can be obtained via minigames scattered all around the region (for example the fishing game in Cisia).

HMs can be updated at certain town PCs.

Clans; tightly knit-groups of humans and Pokémon who protected the people in a time when conflict was common. Casinos, hotels, villas, whole towns; they own it all and want to keep it. Clan members have certain privileges. To gain almost supernatural power they bound legendary Pokémon to their family head, controlling their minds and powers.

Arcadia Campus; the clans wish to keep a tight grip on the promising future of Pokémon trainers and thus reject freestyle adventures. Trainers who attempt that are punished. Once someone owns a Pokémon and shows some promise they are free game.

Missions; to lower costs and boost the people's moral all kind of complaints that come in are solved by Arcadia's students for educational purposes.
Team Uproot
“Stop telling us what to do!”

HQ: Oruno; Arcadia Campus club room 10F and Telio; about everywhere since its people got their backs

Activities (part here, part below):

 • sabotage  (favorite member activity): hit everything related to clans.
 • research ancient technology: Dio knows that he cannot just sink the island to remove it from outside influences, no, he needs a plan to protect it underwater too, like it used to be (see Mythology).
 • go on freestyle adventures: because we don't like the rules.

Goal: Get rid of those pesky clans and re-sink Aipera.

Leader: Dio
Age: 19

He was born a twin, but without his brother – his parents called him “Two”. Overtly Dio is very friendly and all smiley but truthfully he thinks most things pathetic. This might be due to his father, a simple farmer, who was adamant about Dio helping out yet the boy had a weak body. Even when he turned out to be a genius his protective mother refused the young boy outside education and his father never cared much for high intelligence. Eventually he must have fled. Anyway, nowadays he is an odd mix of self-depreciation and pride and arrogance. That, and he cannot relate to people. Not at all. While his IQ is high his EQ is doubtworthy... so yeah, it's alright to doubt his thought processes in certain cases.

He's a very busy individual: Iola gym leader, Arcadia professor (teacher), puzzle house leader, Team leader, scientist of many specialities.

Personal reason: He claims it's pure curiousity. Perhaps he wants to create his own utopia.

(Secret) Trademark: "Che carino!" How cute! He adores cute things and will make a 180 turn character-wise when he sees one (though he tries not to).

Trivia: Many members make their leader's brow tick in anger; no time for research but time to wreck mayhem.
History: Dio was his old bored self, teaching at Arcadia, when he listened to a bunch of students complaining. He thought through some scenarios and is pretty sure that outside influences lead to that system in the first place.

“It all started when Aipera became land-born: All those wars, those power games, and all that stupidity! Our ancestors were incredibly advanced peaceful and clever – it’s my goal to return Aipera to its roots.”

Uniform:

Uproot is a pretty youthful group and thus they dress like that. When wrecking havoc they wear a mask in form of a Pokémon and their codename is that Pokémon.

Girls: White long shirt with very short sleeves, shoulders mostly free. Knee-length, tight trousers with light boots. The shirts are embellished with climbing vine patterns and there's a rooty looking U for Uproot stamped on it.

Guys: Similar to girls but longer sleeves. They show less shoulder and trousers + shirt are shorter.
About Gyms
They are added to their towns. Game mechanics: Stats are multiplied by 1.2. Gym battles are tougher, the AI was improved. I suck at strategies so I’ll stick to the very basics.
The listed characters are just that, characters, not heroes.

Soton
Description

Dio's Dex: This epitome of a tranquil dump is situated on a very low hill close to the beach; an archaic golden brick pathway is its only, really, redeeming feature. The miniscule square is slightly embellished by planted leaf trees, ferns and palm trees and a pitful creek is crossing it. Only three houses are currently lived in, but there are remains of residences.Pathetic.

Includes: Empty residences, Leo's house, Chiara’s house, Prof. Buckeye’s Laboratory*, Wrecked Shipyard*, Soton Creek, abandoned bus station

Leo's House
This boy prefers it simple like he's used to from Lake Kratias but Chiara and her mother literally forced him to own a cooking stove, a luxurious nesting corner for his best friend, a TV, a Holo Caster and a few other unneccessary, in his opinion, stuff.
Leo is an observant kid who often despairs at other people’s close-mindedness, especially concerning Pokémon. When he was around five his parents, volcanologists, failed to escape their camp in time while Leo miraculously survived. This made him scared of fire and heat. He was found wandering around near Lake Kratias and the Pokémon living there took him in. Later Torchic “Lucia” became his best friend; a very rare species in Aipera. You may say Leo has an odd relationship with Pokémon due to that. He also never felt like bringing them into battle, until, one day, his hands are forced which is why he never was selected for Arcadia Campus. He’s currently living in Soton to assist Prof. Buckeye with his Pokémon studies.
Chiara's House
Chiara's mom used to weave fishing nets when the Wrecked Shipyard was still a bustling fishing place. Then the storm hit, her husband died, people left Soton for the protected inland but she fought on and kept doing it - but changed the purpose. Thus the walls are full of skillful works of art, same with the floor. She's the main money source keeping Soton alive, selling her works in Roseu. There a three rooms and a Panpour is living with them.
This girl is a country kid with ambitions to leave for the city, which is pretty rare in Aipera. Like many of Aipera's natives she's wary of strangers but once warmed up to them she is very helpful, in Chiara's case almost overbearing so. Her mom is the friendly-cheerful-everyone likes me type and Chiara suspects that she and Prof. Buckeye are an item.
Prof. Buckeye's Lab
Starter: Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott

Buckeye is a tree which implicates luxury. This professor is in his late thirties and loves to work in quiet places - it cannot get any quieter than Soton. Aesculus thinks his first name is awfully weird and old-fashioned and blames his father for that. Because he never makes money out of his work people call him an oddball; yet only strangers would call him introvert. This man is very patient and clear-minded; apparently nothing much can surprise or fell him.
No one really knows where he comes from, his looks are certainly out-landish: Dark green eyes and equally green short untamed hair with a light beard in the same color.
Prof. Buckeye's aim is making Pokémon life more comfortable; his first focus was Pokéballs but soon he wanted to go even further. Currently he’s bombarding Leo with questions about Lake Kratias which is the first Pokémon village known. He wants to create similar places region-wide, especially for Pokémon that are mistreated by their trainers.
In his youth Prof. Buckeye apprenticed under a famous Pokéball Creator in Johto, Azalea Town, called Kurt Jr., and when he was older he furthered his studies in Oruno. His loyal partner is Xatu who helps him float around heavy stuff he uses in some of his experiments; this Xatu also delivers messages to people without a Holo Caster or other means of communication. He found it as a Natu in Oruno, it had been thrown away like some rag doll and could not move due to its injuries. Prof. Buckeye frequently stays in contact with Eirene, his main sponsor. Materials are pretty expensive after all, not to mention study costs. When questioned about her motifs, Eirene explains that the professor’s work will be eternal as long as humans and Pokémon exist together.
Trivia: Soton is reverse of the Greek south wind “Notos”. It has no special connection to the real world and is a simple beginner town with a bit of uniqueness.
Route 1
Veery high grass, it’s an untamed route with a thin earthy path and hosts mostly low level Pokémon with a few “dangerous” exceptions. That’s the reason why most baby trainers will jump at the smallest rustle and why they prefer to get their starters somewhere less rural. Leo knows from experience since he had to save quite a few quailing trainers from the local Ursaring hermit who loves to hug people. This Ursaring is a gentle soul. Leo will sigh and shake his head every single time. Chiara will joke about playing matchmaker and additionaly shocking those poor sods with its offspring. A few miles before Roseu this wild path ends into a more civilized street. It might rain during spring season.

Pokémon: Shellos (during rain), Wurmple, Caterpie, Rattata, Ekans, Ursaring "Baby" (1x)

Roseu Town
Description
A great gate greets every visitor. Roseu is famous for pottery and its vast shops and markets. The grey to white brick stone houses are neck-breaking high and placed in rows on both sides of the streets. Fancy garlands hang from lamp posts and connect buildings. On a balcony someone is shaking out blankets and lets them catch fresh air for a few hours. From gaps between houses extremely long stairways lead upwards. Ornate bridges span above heads and roofs, connecting the upper parts of the town. On the second floor a stadium was built; in spring it's crowded by promising trainers chosen to join Arcadia Campus. There the final selection will be done. The lower floor of Roseu is mostly shaded, thus mirrors were installed in a smart way, and they light streets with natural rays. There are a few cute side streets with appealing shops built into the lowest floors of the houses that tourists like to check out. Locals are very enthusiastic about their city and constantly brag about their castle and arts and festivals. There’s a guild hall which is a meeting point for Arcadia alumni and students alike. Above all a huge castle towers, located at the very northern point of the town.

Includes:
1F: dwellings, plaza with a statue and a fountain + Roseu Castle, Castle Park, Pokémon Mart, Roseu Gym, Pokémon Dojo, Herbal Shop, Pottery Shops
2F: dwellings, Roseu Stadium, Roseu School, Pokémon Center, Pokémon Guild Hall
Leader
Arachne
This 16-year old girl has been pretty spoilt by her single mother - she's confident and overtly competitive thus lots of people call her "brat". The typical native dark eyes, which are often narrowed in a slightly arrogant gaze, are partly hidden behind neat bangs. Arachne takes a lot of pride in her looks, thus she wears her smooth brown hair long no matter the heat.
Always wearing summer clothes, Arachne prefers short shorts and skillfully wove a Pokéball pattern on it. In secret she is way more sensitive than she shows and cannot relax without music which is why she always has her headphones on her. Her skin is pale because she applies sun cream and generally does not tan easily. She's an accomplished weaver, potter and loves listening to music.

Once she was taught by an older girl whose greatest dream was to become Roseu’s gym leader. This tutorage transformed into a fierce rivalry (at least on Arachne’s part). Arachne soon noticed that she was way better than her teacher now, yet the girl kept patronizing her. A few months later the old gym leader retires; Arachne and her mentor both apply and are tested – towards the end Arachne manipulates the battle without anyone but the battlers noticing. Arachne knows that she’s obviously better but didn’t want to take any chances. There’s still bad blood between them.

Trivia: Anagram of the Greek south-east wind “Euros”. It is probably based on Caltagirone for its famous staircases.

Obtainable Pokémon: Skitty, Lillipup, Pidove (Castle Park); Bulbasaur egg (Arachne's mother)
Route 2
In the outskirts of Roseu there is a Gogoat riding school. White fences protect the street from wildlife and vice versa. A red sign reads “Beware of Froakies crossing the road” as the road is between the hillside and the grassland.

Obtainable Pokémon: Froakie (only in spring + very rare), Deerling, Rattata, Ekans

Route 3
In spring there’s mist, rain and rolling hills with fields, flowering shrubs and the occasional ruin. Most prominent though is a berry farm; the owner is a tad on the paranoid side. Besides berry juice, berry wine and berries he’s specializing in olivas. There are some pesky Murkrows ravaging his fields regularly. He offers travellers a place to stay for a lot of $$$, most accept though due to the weather. His breakfasts are legendary: frittata with an espresso strong enough to wake the dead.

Obtainable Pokemon: Murkrow, Rattata, Deerling, Combee (Summer), Fletchling (Spring + Summer), Sandshrew, Wooper (fishing; nearby river), Poliwag (fishing)

Gargesino
Description
Gargesino is known for its creepy catacombs, its diverse theater plays and most for its Phione breeding, which is a pretty difficult and time consuming process. There are three high walls around this town from the time Gargesino used to be a jail for the thieves, murderers and anti-political. The prisoners uprooted their guards with the help of Rattatas they had secretly fed and befriended and took over the place. Because most of them did not have any promising prospects they started to live there. Getting along was tough of course but it turned somewhat peaceful once their mouths and fists had established some laws. Now there’s an annual wall climbing contest where the successful “invader” can win a rare Phione egg.

Including: Pokémon Center, Pokémon Market, Gargesino Gym, Pokémon Theater, Catacombs: here dead Pokémon are preserved, they are almost life-like. It’s an eerie place.
Leader
Thanatos

In his early fourties this man looks old and tired. He is a true introvert, being around people sucks the life out of him. He literally feels cold all the time. He is awfully helpful and volunteers for a lot of things, which may be due to an awful event that happened a few years ago: When the theater was being built, Thanatos, a strapping young lad at that time, worked at the construction site. When, from a high position, he lifted something very heavy, it fell down all the way to the ground and hit someone, that person died. With a burning rage the person’s fiancée attacked him with a lighter and he became temporarily blind. Even today his eyes are still very sensitive to light. His Spiritomb keeps reviving his bad conscience with taunts.

His eyes are light-grey and his hair is a wavy black, untameable and usually bound back in a pony tail. Due to his Gargesino guide part-time job Thanatos wears a white tuxedo with black trousers, beneath the tuxedo a black shirt. A white tie and a silver chain underneath his collarbone finish the picture. He usually wears sunglasses because his eyes are vulnerable to strong light. There’s a faint scar crossing his left eye vertically. This man gets tan easily, so many people think that he's an outdoor person. He secretly (very secretly) enjoys to pop up right behind people like a ninja and give them the shock of their life and also to annoy people with monosyllabic talking. They say that a smiling Thanatos is scarier than facing ghosts at a dark misty graveyard in the middle of the night. It is a rare sight in itself, but recently he seems to have found a friend in Beros' gym leader. Might be good for him. His past? Some say "Mafia, 100%", better take those rumors with a grain of salt.

“Life is short and full of sudden events no one can predict. Have you quarreled with a friend? Say sorry today. Have you ever wanted to travel to some far-away region? Do it tomorrow."
Layout
Outside: It looks like a small mansion in baroque style, totally average. Maybe the fierce Mandibuzz statues are a tad creepy, but so what?

Inside: The room is turned upside down like in a bad horror movie and will continue turning until the challenger won't know what's left what's right. To make it even worse the lights will flicker a lot, and the interior can only be analyzed during a flash. A constant giggling gets louder the closer to the gym leader the challenger is. Some barriers can only be overcome when the room is rotated a certain degree. Keep your head clear and this will be really easy.
Trivia:“-ino” suffix is the Italian equivalent of “a little bit on the small side”. It is probably based on Palermo for its famous Capuchin catacombs and historical prison. Its name is a puzzle of the Greek northwest wind "Argestes".

Obtainable Pokémon: Spiritomb 1x; Gastly, Noibat, Zubat, Spinarak (Gargesino Catacombs)
Route 4
Just a bit later there is Route 17 leading inside the dense forest, but it's barricaded off for now. Thanatos pops up right next to you and says "Run". Double scary. Turns out that someone is running down some suspicious masked guys. Closer to Beros there are hot geysers jumping up from the ground and grey mud flows that glow silver like the moon. This is Thanatos' favorite retreat, all that shimmering looks like a giant moon, beautiful. On the edges of the flows grass is growing and a few rocks are lying around. A bit further away there is the public street. Closed off whenever the vulcano is being bad.

Obtainable Pokémon: Cubone, Trapinch

Beros City
Description
"The Tomb" is made of thick and solid rock that has withstood nature’s forces for thousands of years. Tons of years ago Mt. Lipari still used to expand to the coast, then someone decided to chisel Beros City straight out of the mountain. The Tomb starts off broad from the ground and gradually becomes smaller towards the top. Nature and weather pretty much polished its surface to smooth grey and black. Inside the area is as huge as ~four football fields. There are 200+ floors. In certain places holes in the ceiling make it is possible to reach higher levels by flying or elevator. Locals utilize night grass for a somewhat natural light source and to power their glass houses. They are also trying to figure out how to grow this grass since very few dare venture into those deep parts of Erba.

Including: Patrat Hideout, Power Plant, Battle Tower, Wellness Hotel, Glass houses, Riddled Factory, Martial Arts school, Beros Gym, Pokemon Mart, Pokemon Center
Prof. Daedalus “Call me Da”

Age: 21
Da is one of the youngest Arcadia alumis ever. His determined manner got him through his studies real quick. Everything about his looks is plain and nothing special, it's his personality that shines. Narrow face, small plain brown eyes and cropped short borsty brown hair give him a military look. While smiling his eyes disappear and he got dimples. There's a tiny mole under his right eye and all in all he got a slightly foxy look. You can always see him running around Beros in his training suit and with his towel. Due to his head-strong personality, Da often butts head with the local clan - it does say a lot about him that he's still gym leader and a citizen of Beros. Due to an incident on a study field trip he stopped taking things for granted. He always assumed that fighting power is all that's needed for pulling through, but after he saw a Chimchar family get seperated by force and modern technology (which was partly his fault) he has been a vast supporter of aid groups and formed one himself. Even now he's still looking for Chip's (his Chimchar's) family, though they are probably scattered by now.

Trivia: Part puzzle of the Greek north wind “Boreas”. It’s probably based on Sperlinga, its cave houses and its castle gouged from the very hill. Actually some of those cave houses are still in use.

Obtainable Pokémon: Chimchar 1x, Patrat
Route 5
A huge gorge carved out by volcanic activity. Wildlife is abundant here; it’s a veritable jungle and one of Aipera’s natural reserves travelers need permission to enter. Relicts from ancient people can be found here as well as the random explorer caught cursing in an Ariados net or in tree vines. After literally stumbling over a fossil some explorer will challenge you. He's pretty tough. Dio, who was around this area to check out ruins (oh and to catch a Petilil ofc!), helps out and explains fossils to you.

Obtainable Pokémon: Spinarak, Chatot, Treecko (very rare), Petilil (spring), Shroomish (all but winter), Oddish (all but winter), Snover (winter), Foongus (fall)

Mt. Lipari

HOT! The interior is an artificially cooled circular maze where the aim is to enter rooms and finally come out on the other side of the outer circle without getting too close to the heart. There are odd symbols graved into the stone, if read correctly they will literally move mountains; those walls can be rotated and are the puzzle. Team Uproot is checking out this location because Dio thinks this system genius and that it might have traces to the ancient civilzation he adores (plus he REALLY wants to catch that Cyndaquil, che carino!). Sometimes it rumbles all around, feels like something is moving.
Note: This is not a perfect map but should give an idea.

mtlipari.png
Obtainable Pokémon: Magmar, Cyndaquil 1x, Numel, Camerupt, Torkoal

Route 6
Time to shake off the stench of rotten eggs! The panorama here is a-m-a-z-i-n-g, a little bit below you can see the faint shape of Iola. The only way to get down is by climbing, flying or sliding for the adventurous. There are furrows broad and smooth enough to make that possible. Certain items and rare Pokémon species can only be obtained by climbing though. A small memorial for unlucky explorers is located here. Use a raft to get to the other side of the river. The water here got a pretty strong pull so that you'll need the help of Kratias' locals to tow you over. Surfing is fine too.

Obtainable Pokémon: Larvesta (very rare), Charmander (very rare), Nosepass, Geodude, Larvitar, Roggenrola (when climbing)

Route 7
A short route almost at the doorway of the Pokémon settlement. Flowers abound, the air smells like pines and freshness; it's the epitome of a fairy garden. There are very few high trees, but we can guess what happened here. A bit further down there is the beloved resting place for migrating Taillows and Wingulls who leave the colder regions in fall: Manna trees* grow here with their syrupy sweet tasting fruits that also offer vast regenerative powers.

Manna trees: Yep, they exist but look a bit different than we are used to from RPGs. Dio will use its fruits in experiments to test if its eternal renewal power can make a good barrier.

Obtainable Pokémon: Taillow (fall), Wingull (fall), Pineco, Karrablast, Pikachu, Weedle, Beedrill, Nincada, Ninjask

Lake Kratias
It is located inside a crater that formed eons ago from unknown causes. A lake used to be in there but it dried out, with the help of water Pokémon it was re-created and they built homes, restaurants etc around it. The houses are made of wood with white planes on top to keep out rain. Then all humans mysteriously went POOF. Now it is a town run by Pokémon.

You may ask yourself what stops trainers in catching them all? This town is protected by a group of Trevenants and believe me, you don't want them to become cross with you.

Trivia: Probably based on Refugio Sapienza, due to its gradual coming-to-be in a dangerous area.
Erba Forest
Description
The early part of this woodland was transformed into an entertainment park, which now is most eerily abandoned. Then, abruptly, a gate leads into the wild territory of Erba. Shrubbery grows and darkness reins even in daylight. Plants give off a diffuse glow, according to the Aipera Dex ingrained encyclopedia those ancient helpful odd plants store life energy and transform it into sunlight for grass Pokémon to eat. Legends claim that such a glowing leaf has mysterious powers but not many dare face this forest's dangers. Of course Team Uproot gotta be on that case.

Trivia: Erba is the italian word for “grass”.
Route 9

A soft dirt path slowly winding down the mountain. Huge leaf trees grow here. Travelers are cautioned to move with much care, because cheeky grass Pokémon love to trip humans with their roots. There is a lone cottage hidden in the shrubbery and a mostly ruined raised hide. Up in the treetops you notice odd constructions peeking through leaves, they look like very tiny houses. If you look even closer some of those trees turn out to be Trevenants. Better not get too close.

Lone Cottage: A hermit who claims to have amnesia is located here together with his shiny Pachirisu. When you decide to help him get to the next town, Saipa, you'll receive a Shiny Charm.

Obtainable Pokémon: Oddish, Sawsbuck, Budew, Bellsprout, Gloom, Weepinbell

Saipa Village
Description
Like most of Aipera’s town this is a center-built around-layout… only there are two centers. Legends say that Palkia and Dialga are the cause for the mirror town. Fact is that when something is re-arranged in one part, it will also change in the other. In the middle of every Saipa is a statue, one of Palkia and one of Dialga. There is a museum dedicated to both legendaries. When strangers are crept out by this phenomen, locals just laugh. Still, Saipa is living off tourism, especially scientists, they also plant wheat and olives.

Including: Saipa Gym, Saipa Lab (Fossil restoring), Pokémon Center, Pokémon Mart, Museum (Dialga & Palkia)
Pollux + Castor

Age: 24

"When both boys were young, no one could tell them apart. They appeared joined at the hip and had fun in the forests. One day Pollux was chasing a Caterpie he wanted to catch and despaired: it was freaking fast. The better runner, Castor, ever so helpful opened chase, overlooked a low cliff and fell down. He got all scratched up and received a bad concussion. Even after Castor was healed but for a scar, Pollux felt vast fright and guilt and slashed his own face to show his absolute loyalty to his twin Castor. Now both look the same again."

It's rare for them to let someone else into their world. When Pollux starts talking, Castor finishes his sentences and vice versa. They say that they love the forests so much that the local Trevenants now accept them as part of the wildlife. Sometimes, they admit, they need their own personal freedoms. Castor likes writing extremely long articles about bird Pokémon, he owns an online blog he regularly updates. Pollux prefers hands-on farming, he owns a few fields, including wheat and olive. Castor's birds and Pollux are a great team to chase off pecky invaders. Sometimes they exchange teams for battles too but both admit that they can deal best with their own type. They are hobby musicians and will do outside performances close to Route 11. Locals claim that Lombres have been sighted dancing to their songs.

According to gym guideline 101 they got to have obvious differences in looks. Both wear simple t-shirts, a belt, a traditional flat cap and long trousers, perfect clothes for their daily activites. In gym mode one of them misses the cap. For fun they sometimes change roles, so that challengers think Castor is Pollux and vice versa.

Route 10

This is a fast route back to Roseu that was established when Saipa and Roseu used to be sole trading partners. Nough said.

Obtainable Pokémon: Deerling, Arbok, Ekans

Route 11

A long bridge that separates Saipa from Saipa. It was deemed Route 11 for the irony. Only Ledybas are crawling all around the place yet the government refused to re-name it Ledyba Bridge.

Route 12

It's steadily getting hotter. The main focus point of this route is the Stripped Bridge. It's a memorial for the local hero Beedrill.

Obtainable Pokémon: Doduo, Fearow, Exeggcute (all but winter), Ratticate

Route 13

HOT! At the starting point there is a caravan offering transport. The sand dunes are frequently moved around by the steady southern breeze and it's quite easy to lose your way. The sky is a deep blue with few scattered clouds, the sand is slipping into every single body hole and the air is so dry you feel like permanent coughing. There is poor vegetation, mainly dwarf cactus this part of the region is known for. They are the only liquid source for a long loong while. A few rocks, semi-hidden by sand, are the only helpful landmarks. Huge skeletons of ... whatever they used to be make you halt a few times. In some of those remains Pokémon are living!

Obtainable Pokémon: Hippopotas (in the sand dunes close to the river), Trapinch, Hippowdon, Gligar, Sandile, Krokorok

Oruno
Description
This town can only be entered by Pokémon owners. Oruno is every scientist's wet dream, an academic town with a huuuge library and every possible speciality. Like any desert town worth its grain there is a large oasis and a water source near it. This source is hidden in an artificial cave system, a remnant of wartimes. Allied Pokémon used to bump poison downstream to chase off their invaders. Due to a smart system only part of the water got affected, thus the locals prevailed. This town is full of intellectual people who will either act like the white rabbit "No time, no time" or talk your head off if you’re not good at dodging. Oruno is mostly self-supporting; vast glasshouses reflect blinding sun rays and with solar energy power is kept up.

In the center a white tower overshadows any other building; all around it igloo-like white houses made of heat-blocking material are arranged. There is a massive plaza in front of the tower, the Glorious Pillar* and a renewing fountain located on it together with tons of benches to sit on. Plants and partial roofs make the temperature cooler.  In the outskirts there are  glass houses tended by plant science students. Palm trees are growing all around the town.

Because the very dry air of Sabbia holds little moisture and thus holds little heat, after sunset temperatures may fall down to around 5 celsius. Still, Oruno is especially famous for its nightlife.
Elektra I know this name is taken but they are totally different people anyway.

Her twenty years make her one of the younger gym leaders. Elektra is very small for her age, what's even worse: her ear-long hair is often colored as bubbly pink as her clothes and she loves her Mudkip hair circlet. Still, no one would dare look down at her twice. She started training very early, back when she received her first Pokémon, Marill, now Azumarill.  Her battling style is so awesome, because she and her Pokémon figured out signs that can be read quickly in battle without breaking concentration. Ele's dad is a clumsy good-for-nothing but she still loves him, also because he gave her a very rare Totodile - where did he get it from anyway? When her mom left to re-marry, Elektra stayed. Elektra is a very motherly and cheerful girl. She cooks, cleans the house, feeds her father's Bidoofs and leads the Oruno gym plus a few cooking workshops in town. Sometimes she feels there's more to her dad, but the only evidence is the odd times he returns at, the equally odd visitors, and the occasional hard flicker in his eyes. It is still a weird feeling; like living with a stranger. During her free-time she meets up with friends, enjoys the campfire at the oasis or sits at a cafe. She loves to invite challengers she likes to one of the local campfire outings.

The outside looks like a big colorful modern Aquarium small kids would love to take a look at.

Inside there is a simulated underwater maze, with tang, underwater plants, rocks, coralls and everything related. Trainers hide in dead ends which are plenty. In some corners the challenger obtains a key, you need the correct key to unlock Elektra's secret room which will have a fairly obvious blade pattern. If you use the wrong key two times you need to re-start the gym (minus the trainer challenges). Her room looks like a fairytale palace in form of a Cloyster.
Sabbia Ruins

Ancient tombs from one of Aipera's old people with a triangle style. Inside it's narrow, low ceiling, dark, mazey as heck and locals say "take a guide or don't go at all". Good advice, those old people had a clever way with traps, even a simple torchlight ray in the wrong place leads to doom. There are golden statues of Ho-Oh which seem to follow your every move with their creepy eyes. There are various sliding doors leading to new sections, your brains will be challenged with a riddle. Success: door opens. Fail: have a good fall. When saving some guy from certain pain you'll receive one of his finds: five fossils. He takes no time to explain so it's all up to luck. In case it's still unclear, this place is s-c-a-r-y and thus many trainers use their hidden Run Away ability, during which they lose this or that item. In the center of the tombs Ho-Oh can be found, sleeping. The clan still got his mind imprisoned, you won't be able to wake him up yet.

Obtainable Pokémon: Archen or Lileep or Anorith or Kabuto or Omanyte; Elgyem, Sigilyph, Woobat, Baltoy

Route 14

The landscape is pretty much like Route 13, but there’s an oasis just next to Oruno, with a huge rock, a clear lake and a waterfall. Swimming and any similar stuff is forbidden to keep the water clean. At night time this is a gathering point for campfires, music and Pokémon battles. Everyone seems to be very close, it's difficult to be part of it without an "in" (usually an older student). A little bit further in, there is a deep crater - so deep in fact that not even years in the desert can hide it. It remembers you a bit of Lake Kratias. Beware of quicksand. Locals know what to look for but many a stranger has been trapped down in the Sabbia Maze. Around the end it gets cooler. The grass here is a bit dry and low, rain seems to be a rarity. In front you can see hills plus a huge mountain sourrounded by vapor. Trainers will share their water for a battle.

Obtainable Pokémon: Trapinch, Gligar, Sandile, Krokorok

Stormy Valley

This is one of those unexplainable things. The wind here has a constant 120 km/h, but native trees, grass etc are not affected. Everyone who enters is though. Tornadus can be caught here after you defeat his head of clan.

Obtainable Pokémon: Tornadus 1x

Route 15

This area is loved for its wine. Rows upon rows of wine fields and this and that random guest house for tired travelers. Let's summarize: fields, shrubs, guest houses. Oh, and a weather station which broadcoasts news all around the region. Many ex-students from Oruno are working here, their mascot is a naughty Castform. The station tower is so high that it can be seen for miles. When its antenna glows blue it means rain expected in the next few hours; yellow is warm day, green is storm and red heat wave.

Obtainable Pokémon: Cacnea, Sunkern, Sandslash, Sandshrew

Cisia Town
Description
Close to one of the three volcanoes of Aipera this town is known for its sulfur sites. Lots of useful stuff can be made of sulfur and Prof. Buckeye is very eager to experiment with it. Visitors will be greeted by a huge Ursaring boy with suspicious eyes. The locals love their guardian way too much to remove him for the loss of a few money bringers. In spring Cisia hosts fishing festivals, people and Pokémon will come from all around to participate in catching Magikarps with bare hands. Someone even netted a golden one once. In the center of the town is a church + clock tower and a postal office. From that center many streets are leading away, giving it a spiky look. The river is crossing Cisia's outskirts, brown plane structures are built on it. An attractive part-timer offers you a one-time free aerial tramway ticket to Telio, you decline. Walking ftw. Well, maybe with company...

Cisia Gym
Leader
Eirene

Eirene is 37 and plain out refuses to leave Cisia for the huge cities, no matter the offer. It is said that men (and the occasional woman) will visit Cisia only for seeing Eirene - she's the region's most beautiful beauty. Lots of challengers are surprised when they waltz into her gym and see a vision, and then this vision opens her mouth. Eirene approves of few and disapproves of many things, the list would be too long. To challenge only for taking a look at her is pretty far up that list. Also to curse in front of children. She utilizes a sharp tongue and jumps to conclusions quickly. It's dangerous to be on the wrong side of her temper. Anyway, outside of gym duties she works with her parents at the farm and hosts mud fight competitions for children at the riverside.

In gym mode she speaks softly and plays the perfect gentle soul, as long as the challenger is genuine. She wears a pink (to go together with her Pokémon) cocktail dress with clevage and moon-silver high heels. Her skin is sparkling to give an ephermal feel. She has deep blue eyes that always seem to switch from light to dark colors. Her hair is almost black, long and slightly wavy. The locals forbid her to cut the hair though.

"You look into the mirror and you see a genuine person, nothing is more important than that." "The way you battled showed me how beautiful your soul is, it is a given you beat me."
Layout
The outside looks like a pink chewing gum bubble with faintly see-through walls. A sliding door leads inside.

The interior is full of mirrors, probably Eirene's way of getting revenge. In every single mirror Eirene is reflected, taunting you. Some mirrors can be smashed and you have to find those mirrors while battling trainers. There is no good way of orientation, but the mirrors stay smashed as long as you are inside the gym. It can be pretty frustrating.
Route 16

To the left is a rough cliff leading straight downwards and timid Skiddos take a peek then hurry away. The air smells faintly sulfuric and the sky is a hazy blue. A little further up the mountain street, close to the hotsprings, there is a mountain camp site. People take a rest with their bikes etc. Those people are bored and will challenge you to a battle, card game or cooking contest.

Pokémon: Skiddo, Pansear

Telio Mines

The air is fairly damp. Stalactites and mites grow everywhere, the walls are a strange wet yellow-beige color. Waterways crisscross the inside area, they can be navigated with small boats (or Surf) to reach areas that are otherwise closed off. The only noise interrupting the silence is plip plip and the occasional pick axe/hammer hit. Towards the center, at U10, a huge underground pond can be found - with rare Pokémon.

You need a pass to enter and a hammer or pickaxe to start. There are ten floors counted downwards (U1-U10) and every single one offers rarer items. This goes from simple ores to gems to fossils.

Obtainable Pokémon: Lapras, Staryu, Seadra, Phione (very rare), Piplup (very rare); Shiny Lapras 1x

Telio Town
Description
This town starts on top of Mt. Terra and continues down the mountain to the north coast. It boasts with amazing beaches and a huge light tower: the highest lighthouse ever is guiding fishermen and ships to the safe haven. It is quite literally a ray of light, the sea around Aipera can be wild. When the Telio mines were discovered a few years ago, the light house was built out of pure gold in celebration. The locals hate sharing their mines with the clans "just because they can". We found them! It's no wonder they are staunch supporters of Team Uproot, actually some of its older members are from Telio.

Telio Gym
Leader
Ladon

Age: 54

He is a man who refuses responsibility for most things, is always too late and has poor manners.Yet when his best friend resigned, Ladon agreed to protect the Telio gym. Because the public already knows that his friend is a Team Uproot member, the clans forbid him to just take over the gym. He hates drawing anyone else into this mess, but sometimes it's hard to avoid. He always goes to Oruno when no more challengers arrive.

Often loud sounds are echoing down from the gym at sunset, most people assume he's tidying up. Some know the truth, they laugh up their sleeves, imaging clumsy Ladon's antics inside a room that he has been working in for years.

He's on the small side, has a big belly, very short dark-blonde hair, already greying, and friendly green-grey eyes. He wears an obviously hand-made sweater cut low at the collarbone, "Papa" is written on it.
Layout
The gym is located beneath the light house, a huge area of unused space. It was once used as a storage, but nowadays there are easier ways. You have to navigate the moist earth and try not to get sucked into the ground. Sabbia Desert should have given you some experience.
Route 17
The ground is so soft and damp that it can be considered a marsh. The air is awfully moist, due to thick trees the sun barely glances through the rooftops. Logs are lying around, moss is growing on rocks and your shoes make squishy sounds. Up ahead is a checking point, you need to get permission before being lead upwards to Iola.

Obtainable Pokémon: Stunfisk, Nidoran w/m, Nidorina, Nidorino, Barboach, Palpitoad

Iola
It is said that Tornadus used to ravage the whole region, when a genius architect build him an altar the size of a small town. It turned out that Tornadus felt slighted by his brother Landorus, who punished him for doing what he was born to do. After feeling cherished for the first time, he gifted Iola the ability to float. He added permanent clouds around it to keep the air moist. Its famous falls are an endless magical circle of Clouds-Falls-Lake-Sun-Clouds.

Iola itself has the layout of a pirate ship; there's one lower half and the other part is in a slightly raised position, staircases lead up there. Betweens the staircases green vegetation climbs up white walls, so thick that the walls itself are barely visible. Charming houses stand in front of those walls, in form of 1-2 floor high apartements. Owning a whole house here is almost as expensive as buying an island.

The locals are veeery particular about who they allow to enter.

Layout
The gym is located behind the falls.

The interior is made of see-through tiles, almost every challenger gets dizzy from navigating those alone. After finally being able to cross the river there's a sandy beach. A frustrated fishing woman will press a Super Rod into your hands and leave. From this point you can glimpse Port Empidocles, a swimming island of stone. During tide it's almost possible to reach it on foot.

Obtainable Pokémon: Psyduck, Golduck, Shellder, Corsola

Port Empidocles
During tide Port Empidocles is surrounded by sandy beaches that almost cover up all of Route 18. Locals sweep up salt and sell some to the inland windmills. As the center of naval travel this city is bursting with people of various regions. Arrivals of interest are reported to the nosy clan heads. Besides the terribly loud harbor, docks and sailor inns there are a few houses. Port Empidocles is a great place to hear curious stories and rumors and of adventures in faraway places.

Vulcano Mt. Empidocles

Obtainable Pokémon: Shellder, Corsola, Staryu, Relicanth, Gorebyss, Huntail

Obtainable Pokémon: Shellder, Corsola, Staryu, Tentacool, Tentacruel

E4 Gate

Obtainable Pokémon: Totodile (very rare), Corphish, Krabby, Kingler, Lombre, Jellicent

E4
The 4
Carla

Age: 29

She is famous for her abstract nail paintings and loves to show them off to her challengers. She specializes in Normal Pokémon because according to her they got the most potential. Carla has very dark skin, a trained figure, red painted lips and dark eyes. She dresses in a no-sleeves shirt and a very short skirt, her feet are bare. Carla admits to forcing her art on the other E4 members when bored (which is often). Her Ambipom loves to be a painting victim though. They can be seen sitting together at the coast sometimes. One word: free-spirited.

The ground is chess patterned and abstract pictures hang on the wall. There are four pillars decorated with dizzying patterns of whirls, inverting circles and similar stuff. In the middle of those pillars Carla is checking her nails.

Type: Normal

Pokémon: Ambipom, Slaking, Blissey, Ursaring, Snorlax

Giacinto

Age: 55

He always argues with Carla because her concept of art is way wrong. His sister is a non-scholarship student at Arcadia and he thought that E4 would pay enough to support her. Well, it would if people actually came to challenge him! Giacinto is all for enhanced details. One word: over-thinker.

He has the muscular build of someone who works out a lot, during work he wears a red painter's coat with pockets he often sticks his hands into. Black trousers and casual shoes complete the image. His hair is cropped short and red, he calls it a recessive gene, and his eyes are a dark brown.

Many people fear to face his Darmanitan. He was actually a gift from a friend who found him sleeping in front of the Sabbia Ruins. When he sees that Giacinto is thinking too much, he head butts him gently, which is still pretty owa.

A plain white room with Giacinto in the middle. He claims that plain white is best for clearing the mind.

Type: Fire

Pokémon: Darmanitan, Magmortar, Arcanine, Blaziken, Pyroar

Kiyohara

Age: 36

While her partners heatedly go on about art, she is calmly seeping her tea. Her light yellow taint, slanted dark eyes and smooth black hair put up in a bun show that she's not a native. Her manners are also gentler, no strong gestures or loud talking. Her favourite cloth is a dark kimono embroidered with a Zoroark. Together with her Weavile she is creating beautiful landscapes, planets and other things that strike her fancy. Her room is full of colors and life, it's a joy to step into it. There are dainty chairs and a table in the middle of a lotus pond. White planes lead to this center. She always invites her challengers to tea before a battle. One word: observer.

Type: Dark

Pokémon: Weavile, Zoroark, Zweilous, Bisharp, Scrafty

Alfio

Age: 35

He's a total playboy who cannot wait for the end of the day, so he can leave and flirt up some girls in Port Empidocles. Alfio sometimes forces one of the E4 girls to stand model for his statues. According to him he is also sculpting every single woman he dumps. His room is filled with them, a real maze. His Luxray is a happy participant in (almost) all his antics. He has olive-brown skin, a gentle face with a light beard, deep grey eyes, thick brows, a slightly broad nose and beautiful dark wavy hair. He dresses in a white V-cut sweater with elbow-long sleeves, embroidered with golden rims by Kiyohara. For whatever odd reason he gets along pretty well with her, though she appears to be more shy around men than Carla.

Type: Electric

Pokémon: Luxray, Eelektross, Ampharos, Magnezone, Jolteon
Champion
Luciana

Age: 22

Her no non-sense-pls manner often cows even the overzealous Alfio. She is a very informed person and mysteriously knows about everything going on outside. Luciana got odd violet eyes, brown hair and is always wearing a Natu-patterned headband. Her face is round, soft and appears childish to some, though her personality is everything but. She dresses in a green summer coat with three yellow buttons and a hood she sometimes pulls up. Her lace-up boots are equally green and she is wearing semi see-through tights.

The room is majestic, gold, red and white with shimmering pools of water and Lugia statues.

Pokémon: Metagross, Clawitzer, Dusknoir, Crobat, Excadrill, Haxorus

Route 21

Up into the hillside! Remember Route 3? Now we can do more than look at that pretty panorama, we can live it. The street is very curvy, bad for carsick people. A huge gate appears in front of your eyes.

Borospolis
This town is a true Metropolis. There is everything from small house to huge sky towers. Time to catch some information if you want to free the legendaries. Most of Borospolis' buildings are made of glass, but it's a pretty strong type. It's often called "Glass City".

Including: Pokémon Center, Pokémon Market, Safari, TV Center, Radio Tower, GTS, Department story, game corner, casino, Pokémon club house, guild hall, contest hall and lots more
Route 22

A train station is located here, it connects to many regions underground, especially Unova and Kalos.

Pokémon: Buneary (slow spawn)

Strait of Telio

This route ends in a cliff, you can faintly glimpse an unknown region in the distance. People want to build a bridge to get there.

Route 23

This is a double water route, the Pokémon you will find depend on the path you choose.

Acqua Temple

A lead on legendary Pokémon lead you here. Wonder what you'll find.
Pokédex
I wanted to back-track from the modern designs and went a tad retro. As former Dexes (is that even a word?) remind me of handheld consoles this one will be a ... Tamagotchi (like the Pokéwalker of HG/SS I suppose)! But don’t be fooled, this simple thing packs some serious mojo. That's all to it, really. That and it's Dio's fault for going all maniac over cute things.

Design:
At first gaze it looks like a large pocket watch which can be worn like a necklace. It is round like a coin and Dio added a wind-like pattern to its surface. In a fit of absolute villainy he engraved a cute face, at the bottom there’s a cheeky cat mouth and above the middle a pair of ridiculing eyes. To make it look like a Pokéball, Dio added a “belt” around its middle with a red button at the center.

Instructions:
For the voice version just point it at a Pokémon or step into a town. For the image version press the red button or say "Open" and it will click open. A hologram will appear and explain.

Features:
*auto-updates Pokémon, town, nature and human data

*informs immediately when another Aipera Dex bearer is near-by

*gives good advice also outside of its usual speciality

*GPRS routing system that must be manually updated

*SOS key for auto-contact should an emergency happen

*not really sucessful Pokémon language translator

Personality/AI: it is pretty insulting and pokes fun at its owner. It is known to give encouragement too, sometimes. It often complains that its vocabulary for entries is waay to limited and uses words it learns during travels to compensate. It's an open secret that it adapts to its owners speech patterns and choice of words.

Trivia:

 • This is available in other adorable forms, including Charmander and Pachirisu.
 • Some trainers are “crept out” by all the cuteness and refuse to wear it in any visible way.
 • Its eyes will glow briefly when another trainer with an Aipera Dex is nearby.

@Feravyne: Awww now I can scratch story ... and will use the other form I was planning I guess (or... ... ...). I love it btw.

If you already started writing a story, please finish/post it!  Just because I posted first doesn't mean the option is closed to everyone else.  I'd love to see your work and I'm sure others would too.

I have linked the current entries on the fist post, at the bottom. Feel free to quote me once you have placed your entry on a reserved post, and on what page, if you want. Though it's not a necessity, as I will of course be going back through the posts multiple times to make sure I have everyone on the end date.

Introduction and Foreword:

Hello, welcome to my submission. I've been working on this in my spare time since the day it was announced. I had a ton of fun creating my world and also drawing it to help communicate it to you; the reader. I understand there are a lot of words in my entry, but I do hope you will at least skim the areas that interest you and check our the drawings I have done. I decided to make the most of this project and dove in head first with creating images to present my gym leaders, Elite Four members and champion. They may not be amazing works of art but I am happy to have created them as it has given me a reason to draw and also encouraged me to practice. Each drawing took on average between two to three hours of love and care. Even if you think they're horrible I do hope they give you a bit more insight into the characters that are involved in my region. It is my very personal opinion that characters make a story and so I focused on theme the most.

I will quickly mention that my region is based off of Canada (I discuss this a bit more later) and that a lot of the names and aspects included hit home for me (literately). I tried to be thoughtful when naming my characters and areas and as a result almost all of them have a specific meaning behind them. For example all of the towns/villages/cities are named after apple cultivars in my area (which is know for apple production) and some of the landmarks are named after places close to me. It is also important to note that although my ideas and concepts are not "R Rated" I have made my story a bit more mature in comparison to many Pokemon games, I wanted it to appeal to the older audience. Although it's highly unlikely GameFreak will ever do such a thing (from a marketing standpoint it doesn't make sense) I decided it would be alright for my own purposes.

I also wish to thank Musica for creating and hosting such an exciting contest, it's creative ideas like this that keep events lively and diverse here. I will also thank the judges in advance and anyone else who is either forced to or wants to read the entries, there's a lot of hard work in this thread so far and it's fantastic to get some insight into people's creative minds! Also congratulations to all of those who have entered or will be entering before the deadline - finishing this project is an accomplishment in itself and shows dedication and skill (in my opinion), thanks for sticking with it. :) Finally, I must thank my dearest Sweetu. He is the glue that holds me together and my biggest supporter. He also encouraged me to keep going with this despite the fact that a lot of our time together was spent with me working on this. He didn't complain once (what a trooper)! Francis, you are the best. (Sorry for the unprofessional mush).

Protagonist and Rival

Rusty
h6aDYIC.png

Rusty is an extremely laid back and minimally motivated individual who is in his early 20s. He grew up loving Pokemon but now that it's his time to shine and take a big journey, he's feeling a bit hesitant. He has a lot of worries, but hopes that ultimately, his adventure will clear his mind of them. Some fresh air, meeting new people, raising some companions and seeing the diversity of the land could be all he needs to perk up a little bit and forget his troubles. Rusty's goal is to beat the Elite Four Champion and become a gym leader.
Dakota
wGr1MY3.png

Dakota is a fun loving and outgoing individual who loves to squeeze people as a greeting. She is in her early 20s and is finally getting a chance to go out on her own adventure with Pokemon. Nothing will get in the way of this young lady, and she cannot wait to prove herself. She's hoping to get her hands dirty and make a name for herself as an Elite Four Champion. Afterwards, she plans on opening up a Pokemon salon where she can provide professional care for Pokemon's grooming, health, and beauty needs.

Map - The Region of Kaneda
p77K2ZL.png
Theme and Region Name Explained
The name Kaneda was chosen because I simply believe every written work deserves an Akira reference. Despite being picky with most of my gym leader's names, I went with a name that I have a basic attraction to for my region. I will note that the similarities to the real life country that the region represents played a key factor in my decision making though. The name "Kaneda" has the same ring to it that the country "Canada" does.

As stated in the above paragraph, the region is one big nod to my home country, Canada. I attempted to capture the nature of the region. Kaneda has the young growth and small forests to the East much like Canada, as well as the old growth wooded areas to the West (again, just as Canada does). It also features a range of climates from dessert tundra to prairie lands, from islands surrounded by choppy water to relatively calm lakes. I invested a significant portion of my region into coastlines and ocean dependent areas and towns. The significance of the ocean and water played an important role not only because it is part of my lifestyle in Canada but because I wanted to depict the diversity of the land that many people living in Central Canada do not get to experience.

Beyond the topography of the region, I decided to include some important cultural aspects of Canada. This includes First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, as well as people from a diversity of backgrounds. Canada is a nation known for multiculturalism and I both instinctively and purposely included this in my region. I attempted to keep the hints at this minimal, as I wanted it included but not as the main theme/focus of the region. As a note Kaneda lies to the South East of Kalos and features many Generation 6 Pokemon. :)

A specific nod to Canada's oil rig and tar pond industry is made in the West of Kaneda. This includes some abandoned areas that are worth exploring. I included this not only to relate to Canada but also to comment on my opinions of such an industry. Although I won't describe it extensively in this description I think the words "Abandoned" and "Collapsed" say a bit about it.

Enjoy!

A base for the Paws Corp is located in this town to take advantage of the locals' hospitality and the separation from the mainland.

Black Foot Forest - A small yet dense forest that travellers must pass through in order to reach Black Rock Cave. It houses many Pokemon, and is filled with items dropped both by careless trainers and the kind locals hoping to make the trek through the wooded area as exciting as possible for visitors.

While in this area, the protagonist must defeat several Paws Corp. members, as they harass the locals to become official members. The gym leader awaits challengers in her penthouse gym. A protective tree line lies to the North-East to protect the town and its people from the cold air blowing down from the North. The people of this area are fairly quiet, and not accustomed to visitors staying for a long time. To the South-West is a large museum dedicated to the stars and studying all aspects and beauty of the night sky. Here, travellers can enjoy a glance at the night sky through the transparent dome, or discuss planets, stars, and galaxies with many of the scientists and enthusiasts populating the building. Visitors can also have fossils brought to life in a matter of a few hours. Fossil collectors travel to the nearby Eyrie Cave to dig up Sail, Jaw, Helix, and Dome Fossils.

Olglevie Lighthouse - Located to the North of Ida Red Town, this lighthouse illuminates the point furthest North on the mainland of Kaneda. This lighthouse appears old on the outside, but is maintained with the highest level of technology and attracts many electric Pokemon lovers. Many Pokemon roam the lighthouse, enjoying the flow of electricity that powers the lights. Dedicate trainers check the lighthouse nightly for signs of the Pokemon Rotom. This area is filled with trainers who have beaten leagues from near and far awaiting a challenge as they train their prized Pokemon. It is not a place for those who are not confident in their competitive abilities.

Those who live here have dedicated themselves to sharing responsibilities among the town, from gardening to harvesting and from garbage pick up to pesticide applications. The people of this town know how to cooperate and take care of their own. The local gardens are a tourist spot as much as they are a sanctuary for the townspeople. Their homes are log cabins with moss covered roofs, but don't be fooled -- the moss has many medicinal properties and is grown there purposely. A giant tree stands to the South of the town, and in its shadow lies the gym leader's vine covered building. He is the last gym leader to beat before stepping on the path to the Pokemon League! This town is also the home of the Battle League where trainers gather from all over the region and world (virtually) to test their skill and make themselves known as the best.

Route 17 - This boardwalk at the most Western part of Kaneda is fairly quiet. Few people line it and the wind drowns out any attempt at conversation. Professor Evergreen
Name: Professor Evergreen

Age: 32

Physical Description: Evergreen is a petite lady at 5'1" with a small frame, medium length hair and big hazel eyes. She is almost always wearing short shorts and large steel toed boot or rubbers.

Gives Trainers a Choice Among: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile

Personality: Evergreen is a quick witted and intelligent individual who enjoys expressing herself and discussing all sorts of subjects. Although she prefers to discuss her research, she is open minded and fairly interested in learning new things. She has a low tolerance for narrow minded people and is often too short with those who require hand holding. Although she is a nice person, she doesn't shy away from speaking her mind and dismissing those who are either unkind or unintelligent.

Evergreen is a relatively young Professor and relates exceptionally well to the trainers she sends off on journeys. Those who conduct research under her and carry a gifted Pokemon from her lab will expect to receive regular phone calls for updates as well as an occasional visit (often bearings gifts or snacks!). Although she enjoys keeping a strong presence among her pupils, she also employs some tough love tactics on occasion, especially if she believes the individual is not reaching their full potential. Although Evergreen is happy to receive information on any aspect of Pokemon she is most interested in baby Pokemon. Can baby Pokemon occur among any species? Can that be encouraged or discouraged? Evergreen visits her pupils when they arrive in Ida Red City and gives them the choice between a Pichu or Cleffa as a gift.
The Kaneda Pokedex
Physical Description and Technology: The Kaneda Pokedex is in the form of a clip inserted into the ear. It holds itself there much like ear buds do. When the trainer is approached by a new Pokemon the dex will provide a hologram with all the applicable information on the said Pokemon. The dex responds to voice commands and prefers to be called by the name "Dexter". Trainers that use this new and improved dex will be able to decide whether the information provided by the dex is for personal use only (transmitted into the ear bud and can only be heard by the user) or transmitted to the small speaker on the outside of the device for anyone to hear. The holograms are visible to the user only but viewed as only pixel gibberish to any onlookers.

This Pokedex comes with a USB port that conveniently folds back into the dex. It is useful for uploading information to computers that are compatible with the Pokedex but also for upgrading it. Applications that can be added to the dex include a town map, a radio (songs may encourage or inhibit Pokemon encounters), a breeding compatibility guide, and a search feature. The search feature allows trainers to ask "Dexter" how far the nearest town is, where the closest PokeCenter is, what the weather is like in nearby towns, etc. Upon entering a new town a computer is always available to upgrade the dex on local information, trainers cannot unlock the secrets of a town before visiting of course! Trainers that actively update the dex will be rewarded by townsfolk with deals on specific items, and also more selection of customization items. Townspeople are happy to know that someone has taken an interest in their town of course!

This Pokedex is themed with the traditional red and white Pokeball but is also plated in gold. The Pokedex can be worn on a necklace when not in use and if the trainer doesn't wish to carry it in their ear. The dex is completely waterproof and will work underwater.

Received by: Trainers will receive their Pokedex by their respective Professor. Only those who begin their journey in Kaneda can receive this upgraded Pokedex at this time. The makers hope to manufacture this or slightly customized Pokedex for regions near and far from Kaneda.
The Villains - Paws Corporation
The Paws Corporation (also known as Paws Corp. for short) consists of many individuals across the Kaneda region who are determined to change every Pokemon into an Eeveelution. The group has no definite leader, but is run by a series of admins who make decisions together based off weekly meetings via holograms. Although their objective is simple, outlining the procedure has proven to be extremely controversial and also a bit morbid. The group currently possesses the ability to change any Pokemon into an Eeeveelution, but the said Pokemon often carry either physical or vocal traits from their actual species. Some examples include an Umbreon (possessed by an admin) that exhibits a Togepi pattern, and an Espeon that sounds like a Mawile.

The Paws Corp has set up bases in Pink Lady Point, McIntosh Port, outside Northern Spy Village, and near Jonagold Village. These serve as places for both grunts and admins to stay as well as where Pokemon are housed in wait of transformation. Cortland City is home to a skyscraper that is exclusively dedicated to researching and funding the objectives of the Paws Corp. Many scientists devote their time and energies to creating and perfecting the potions required for the transformations carried out by the grunts. It is unclear what their motives are, but the public often refers to them as "furries" in their rage and disgust.

The Paws Corp has no set outfit, but the grunts and admins must dress to match their eeveelution of choice. Spandex is always encouraged, as are boots. Many individuals tend to add ears and/or a tail to their attire, but this often makes people in the area uncomfortable and attracts a lot of attention to their activities. The admins are encouraged to wear capes, and also to hold positions of authority and good standings in the region. Professionalism is a must, as they want to be taken seriously and appear approachable for new recruits.

Strategic development in the Paws Corporation has been booming recently and they have concluded that their next plan of action is to capture the legendaries of the region and change them into Eeveelutions, granting them the power and ability of legendaries in the form of the Evolution Pokemon. This plan sparked from the old wives' tail that the legendary dogs were once Eeveelutions, and grew into a desire to meet an Eeveelution with that sort of power. Theiy have hopes that after claiming all of the legendaries as Eeveelutions, they will no longer be resisted by the public -- only feared.

The Paws Corp. are currently encouraging the scientists that work under them to perfect their transformation potion to avoid all characteristics of the true species, to alter the potion or develop a method to prevent these created Eeveelutions from producing their true species via breeding, and in the future to have a method of turning humans into Eeveelutions. A few key members of the Paws Corp are against changing people into Pokemon and believe that if the organization goes down that road, they have gone too far. Although their opinions are strong and they have been vocal in the past, it's rumoured that they mostly keep their thoughts to themselves, as the punishments are severe for disagreeing with the majority of admins on a subject that has already been discussed. Beyond being punished for views straying from the "Corp's opinion", members are discouraged from leaving the ranks once they join. No one is sure of what befalls those who attempt to, but it cannot be pleasant. Local protestors of the Paws Corp are adamant that punishments within the Corp. include being used as a test subject. These have never been confirmed, however.

The Legends - Legendaries of Kaneda
Suicune:
Upon receiving 5 gym badges, trainers can revisit Rowan and re-battle him. He will use both a Milotic and a Gyarados for this battle. After defeating him, he will request that you fish a Magikarp that is 25 lbs or heavier. Once the task is completed, he will provide you with HM Dive. He hints that this can be useful on Route 10 past Cold Wood Forest, but doesn't say much else.

Upon venturing to Route 12, trainers can dive to explore the underground route. There, they will surface up into an underground cave that is flourishing with crystals and gems. Suicune rests here and will approach any challenger that enters the cave on Wednesdays and Mondays.
Articuno:
Articuno waits at the top of the ice climb that gym leader Siku insists impressive trainers attempt.  The bird enjoys flying more than nesting, however, and only those who make the climb and reach the peak on Tuesdays between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. will be able to try their hand at catching the beautiful creature. If they are to fail, the legendary bird will deem them unfit and avoid them completely.
Note: After learning of the Paws Corporation's intention to collect all legendaries in order to turn them into Eeeveelutions. the protagonist sets out to stop them by collecting the legendaries first and releasing them later - once the Paws Corp. can be stopped!

Raikou:
Raikou awaits trainers on the Abandoned Rig. He only appears for those he deems worthy (must have a Pokemon in their party that has 100% happiness and is at least level 65). Raikou jumps down from the top of the rig and approaches those who meet his requirements Monday through Thursday.
Entei:
Entei resides deep in the Collapsed Well where he hides from the Paws Corporation. He cowers in a room covered in crystals and gems. He appears at any day of the week and won't go down without a fight.
Moltres:
Deep in the Tundra Tunnel, the Paws Corporation has Moltres held captive. Unable to fly or escape the deep tunnel, the legendary bird awaits its fate. Once the Paws Corp. have perfected their transformation potion, she will become a Flareon. It's up to the protagonist to enter the Tundra Tunnel and defeat the Paws Corp. members deep within the cave where no one is said to venture. The Moltres must be captured in order to be removed from the cave and kept safe.
Zapdos
Zapdos stays perched atop Baffin Peak where the wind no longer blows and the air is silent. Zapdos keeps a close eye on the land to the South and considers itself the keeper of Kaneda's safety. Little does Zapdos know that its safety is being threatened. Once the protagonist begins the climb of Baffin Peak, they are entered into a race against time. They must battle their way to the top of the peak as the Paws Corp. litters it, hoping to slow them down and catch this magnificent bird. Zapdos resides at the peak every day of the week.
Mew:
Mew makes an appearance deep in Eyrie Cave every Sunday night. The Paws Corp is aware of the rumours of Mew and this cave, but have yet to figure out when it appears there. Mew is by far the most intelligent legendary in the region. Upon witnessing it, the protagonist doesn't need to battle or capture it. Mew jumps into whatever Pokeball is available first, ready to be kept safe from the dangers of the Paws Corp.
Note: Non player characters throughout the region give hints as to what days specific legendaries will appear in their respective places.

Town: Pink Lady Point

Physical Description: Rowan is a 5'10" male who has light blue hair, coral eyes, and always wears his rubber boots. He prefers to wear fishing overalls or waterproof pants.

Age: 23

Pokemon Type: Water

Pokemon: Feebas and Magikarp

Badge/Design: A fin speckled with gold flecks

Gym Layout: The gym is situated in the water. Challengers swim offshore to meet the gym leader on his row boat. The latter provides enough room for Pokemon to battle. Various swimming trainers await the challengers.

Personal Information and Background: Rowan is an avid fisherman and adores Milotic and Gyarados. Since he runs the first gym, he uses their pre-evolutions in battle Pokemon, but isn't shy about showing off his beautiful Milotic. It swims around freely in the bay and comes to his calls. Rowan awakes every morning at 5:00 a.m. and swims in the ocean for exercise and as a wake up. He indulges in large breakfasts composed of many eggs and local seafood before going to his gym and meeting with several contenders a day. Although he wishes he could use his Milotic in his battles, he wouldn't trade running the first gym for anything. He gets to meet the new and upcoming trainers before anyone else and enjoys getting to know them. He considers his gym an easy victory but also encourages challengers to come back someday and challenge him again. He hints that a successful win later on will come with a huge opportunity.

Name: Lillian
PGJlDJu.png

Town: McIntosh Port

Physical Description: Skinny and short girl with long light brown hair. She often wears her school uniform to the gym, as she studies everyday before completing her gym duties. She enjoys wearing flowers, bows, ribbons and barrettes. Her hair is always neatly done and well kept. When not wearing her school uniform, she prefers sun dresses and wide brimmed hats.

Badge/Design: A paw lined with gold, it represents the paw of a Lopunny.

Gym Layout: The gym is a penthouse apartment of a skyscraper found in McIntosh City. It features high ceilings, various expensive works of art depicting the region scenery, pillars, and marble finishes. Those who wish to challenge the gym leader must enter the various rooms and impress the gym trainers with their Pokemon battling skills. Winners are rewarded with both the ability to continue on through the rooms, and with some tidbits of Lillian's past and her personal life.

Personal Information and Background: Lillian was destined to be a socialite of her city. Her father ran the local normal gym and she spent her childhood being photographed and interviewed on a regular basis. Rumours ran wild that she had a poor relationship with her father, which were seemingly confirmed by their lack of public appearances together. Her father was a charismatic man who donated his time and money to improving the city.

When Lillian was born, she was given a Skitty to take care of and to grow up with -- much like her father, who was given a Buneary at birth. After her father's death, Lillian inherited the gym and the Lopunny. She now divides all her time between the gym and school. Close friends of Lillian aren't shy in letting the public know she considered her dad a pervert and views the Lopunny as a testament to it. Some say the words she speaks against her father are the words of an angst-filled teen, while others say it has something to do with her estranged mother. Regardless, when challenges approach Lillian at the end of the McIntosh gym, they will be met with a lot of attitude and sass as well as a graceful and motherly Lopunny.
He is an expert in natural medicine and spends a lot of his time locating fresh herbs. He enjoys battling Pokemon as well as treating them with natural remedies. He grew up in the care of the townspeople and made a name for himself by winning Pokemon battles at a very young age with his (then) trusty Poochyena. At the age of 15 and with his (now) Mightyena, named Brink, at his side he has become a well respected gym leader of the Kaneda region. He is known for his exceptionally polite and humble behaviour almost as much as he is known for his fear of too much sunlight. The local grocery store remains open after hours every Wednesday so that Kurai can purchase his food for the week without venturing out in the sun.

Kurai has many ambitions beyond his gym leader responsibilities. He hopes to one day breed his prized Mightyena and provide orphans in nearby villages and his hometown with Poochyena pups. He believes having such a loyal companion growing up helped him realize his potential and keep his spirits up.

His best friend is a fellow young gym leader named Lillian who runs the normal gym in a nearby mini city called McIntosh Port.
Years later, he reappeared and took over the gym, but has not been seen without his Banette by his side ever since. Many villagers are suspicious that Brexton died while he was MIA and the Banette has been controlling him as a doll ever since. Brexton himself is now a man of very few words, but the older villagers state he was once an extremely talkative individual and used to write poetry as a hobby. Rumours regarding Brexton are discussed daily in the town, but never with Brexton himself, as he is said to curse anyone who asks him personal questions.
Name: Clansy
68hpJIE.png

Town: Cortland City

Physical Description: Clansy is a 5'6" female who wears steel toed work boots, a hard hat with a couple teeth on it, short shorts and a tank top daily. She cares very little about her appearance and is often seen walking around her gym with mud on her boots and dirt on her face after work. Clansy keeps her hair short so that it's out of the way, and pulls it back into a short braid.

Age: 26

Pokemon Type: Steel

Pokemon: Mawile/Mega Mawile, Steelix, Bisharp, Scizor, Lucario, and Escavalier.

Badge/Design: A small steel rod embellished with gold.

Gym Layout: A system of skinny tiles and traps that drop the challengers through various floor. Trainers throughout the gym offer up no help in solving the gym's puzzle. Those who wish to challenge Clansy are on their own, as she wants only those who can problem solve to locate her.

Personal Information and Background: Clansy grew up working alongside her mother and father. At a young age, she was doing computer work for the company that her family owns, and eventually made her way into the field when she was sixteen. Clansy is intelligent and well spoken, but prefers working hands on and with machinery than reading and writing. She's an extremely competitive person and makes many people who challenge her uncomfortable with her thunderous laugh and crude jokes. She's almost always accompanied by a crew of Mawile who assist her with her work. One specific Mawile serves as her prized Pokemon and was found carrying Mawilite. It is permitted to mega evolve to rise to difficult challenges.

Clansy has a fascination with teeth, and appreciates gifts of exotic Pokemon teeth from which she fashions necklaces and earrings. She often adorns her hardhats with them and views them as symbols of strength. Clansy lives in a modest house with her partner, Rosie, and they both hope to travel the world someday.
Name: Leif
Ve8Lv3j.png

Town: Spartan Town (this cultivar was developed in British Columbia, Canada)

Physical Description: Lief is a 6'2 male who has thick curly hair and a professional appearance. He is almost always wearing a lab coat along with a tie and button up. He tends to wear comfy plants in order to be at the ready for taking plant samples or checking out some hidden plant Pokemon in local forests and fields. His sneakers are always clean and tidy, but some say he has several pairs he rotates weekly in order to keep his professional and tidy appearance. They also grant him the convenience of running shoes for field work.

Age: 35

Pokemon Type: Grass

Pokemon: Lilligant, Jumpluff, Tropius, Shiftry, Whimsicott, and Sawsbuck

Badge/Design: A gold plated crown to remind trainers of his prestigious and polite Lilligant companion

Gym Layout: Dense wooded area with hidden trainers. Those who wish to challenge Lief have to manoeuvre through a maze of trainer traps to meet the gym leader at the centre.

Personal Information and Background: Lief works as a Botanist and Grass Pokemon Researcher. He is always accompanied by his Lilligant, who is both friendly and extremely tough. She often travels alongside him holding his clipboard and a small purse filled with sample jars alongside empty Pokeballs. Lief works with his townspeople to produce superb medicine, for both Pokemon and people, that have no bitter taste and are all natural. He conducts his research by observing Pokemon in the wild while treating their ailments using traditional medicine of the region's native population.

Leif is a blunt individual who is most happy discussing his work findings or entering Pokemon matches. He isn't especially good at making friends and often looks to his Lilligant for support when approaching new people. He spends his spare time writing about his adventures with Pokemon and plants and hopes to publish his personal writing someday. Through this medium, he would like for people to learn a bit about him beyond his scientific findings and grass Pokemon obsession.

Leif owns and runs an open greenhouse area filled with local flora on display for trainers visiting the towns and tourists a like. Additionally, the area provides a place for the locals to relax and picnic. A fenced in portion serves as a spot to leave Pokemon for a couple of hours to play together and be social. The area is often filled with grass Pokemon as most of the townspeople take after their gym leader -- they adore grass Pokemon. Leif employs several townspeople to run and work the open greenhouse in order to maintain its professional appearance and to keep visitors happy.
Name: Zeina
PGA9k2K.png

Physical Description: Zeina is a 5'8 female who has a fiery personality and the compassion to match it. She prefers to wear spandex shorts and tank tops so that she has lots of freedom of movement. When acting as an Elite Four member she sports some ears and a tail. Her favourite colours are red and gold. She is typically spotted wearing either or both. She almost always has her long thick hair tied up and out of the way!

Age: 26

Pokemon Type: Fire

Pokemon: Pyroars x2 (both female), Ninetales, Houndoom, Torkoal, Camerupt

Room Layout: Zeina's room is maroon with a gold carpet leading up to where she stands. On either side of her are two gold statues of her prized female pyroars. They sparkle under the lights. The walls are lined with images of volcanoes and fire, as she always wants to remind people that fire can be destructive and is not to be taken lightly.

Personal Information and Background: Zeina spends most of her spare time scaling mountains by hiking and/or rock climbing. She is an avid camper and is always telling people that she was meant to be outside. She is occasionally scolded for leaving her spot at the Elite Four early and running off to hike with her beloved Pyroars. As the first member of the Elite Four it's impossible for a challenger to begin without her. Oftentimes the other members distract the trainer until she can be located. The trainer usually ends up being set up with a room for the night. Despite her inconsistencies, she is a fantastic edition to the Elite Four, as she keeps the rest of the members on their toes and often sets up retreats and debriefs for the group in order to improve their battling and professionalism. Zeina can be confusing to those who do not know her, but deep down she's simply a fun loving person with a ton of passion.
Name: Diego
gEiLNlF.png

Physical Description: Diego is a 6'2" male who dresses in bright colours, often pinks and blues to coordinate with his fairy type Pokemon. He has light grey hair and prefers to keep it mostly hidden and ties back under handkerchiefs and ties back. He often wears a cape, making him resemble a superhero, which is only emphasized by his playful demeanour and the fact that he has an alternate identity.

Age: 41

Pokemon Type:  Fairy

Pokemon: Sylveon, Gardevoir x2, Mawile, Whimsicott

Area Layout: Diego's room is a light pink with a blue carpet. He sits between two mega Gardevoir statues, despite not using the mega forms in battle personally.

Personal Information and Background: Diego is an over the top individual who always wants his presence known. He's worldly and full of trivia. He can educate those who end up subjected to his endless banter with his opinions on foods of the world, how to keep yourself fit and toned, proper grooming of Pokemon, proper battle etiquette, and an entire array of other subjects. Diego is never short on conversation, so venturing past him to challenge the third Elite Four member is often more than just a test of competitive skill but also of one's ability to cut the conversation short. Trainers often comment that they feel perplexed about losing to someone who didn't appear to be aware of the battle or to be carefully calculating their next move. Skeptics have claimed that this is his strategy, but those who know him brush off the claims.

Diego doubles as both the second Elite Four member of the Seacliff League and also as an Admin of the Paws Corporation. Although the intentions of this organization are extremely controversial and almost questionable for a member of the Elite Four, no one seems to listen enough to his ongoing banter regarding their objectives to clue in or care. Diego is a good sport and works hard, so no issues have risen from his other obligations.
Name: Joules
WEMO17N.png

Physical Description: Joules is a 5'4 female with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She wears her tamer outfit as well as various hats and head pieces while serving as the third member of the Elite Four. During her downtime, she enjoys wearing other pieces she deems fashionable such as blazers and pattern pants, platform shoes, long dresses and long layered pendants. By the end of each day she usually has her hair tied up into a ponytail or bun as she tires of the length and weight of it while battling.

Age: 29

Pokemon Type: Electric

Pokemon: Luxray, Raichux2, Jolteon, Ampharos, Galvantula

Room Layout: Joules has a light yellow room with a blue carpet up the middle. She stands with two statues generating electricity. These statues are white and in the form a Luxray and Ampharos. The ceiling of this room is lined with electric webs from Joules' Galvantula that makes itself at home between challengers.

Personal Information and Background: Joules had a privileged childhood and enjoyed many outings and travels. She worked in the world of fashion for a while, designing costumes and outfits after Pokemon, but found her true calling competing with Pokemon after befriending a Shinx. Her Shinx companion has now grown into a Luxray and she is accompanied by other electric type Pokemon.

When she isn't acting as an Elite Four member she hosts circus-like shows with her electric Pokemon, featuring intricate web designs by her Galvantula, hoop jumping by her Luxray, Tail balancing and comic acts put on by her twin Raichus, among other things. Her show centres around electricity and attracts people from all over the region as well as far off regions. She hopes to retire as a Mareep farmer and sell electric wool based products.

Joules has a very fun and outgoing personality. She can always carry a conversation and is known for making everyone feel welcomed in her presence. She often hosts large dinner parties at her home and invites renowned trainers, fashion designers, Pokemon breeders and collectors alike.
Name: Aerie
QxlkcuQ.png

Physical Description: Aerie is a 5'10 female who has a small frame and wears a spandex suit with skirts and boots suitable for dragon hunting and taming. Pokemon Type: Dragon

Pokemon: Dragonair, Goodra, Salamence, Hydreigon x2

Room Layout: Aerie's room is a navy and black room that features a red carpet up the centre to where she stands. She is the last member of the Elite Four. Her room features two matching Dragonair statues on either side of her. The room has paintings on the walls that depict ancient artistic renditions of Dragon Pokemon.

Personal Information and Background: Aerie is a successful dragon catcher and tamer. When she was younger she made a living off of catching dragons for trainers who were too afraid or not prepared to venture deep into caves to obtain the dragon Pokemon awaiting. She eventually decided those who could not catch dragons themselves were not deserving to call a dragon their own Pokemon. She stopped assisting others with catching dragons and instead travelled to find the toughest dragons to use herself. She began training all hours of the day and even challenged herself to a year long venture into caves where she caught and prepared her own foods over fires and lived with the dragons. Her severe self imposed challenges caused her to spend most of her time alone or with her Dragon Pokemon, making her fairly socially awkward and often judged as unkind. Deep down she is a good person and would not hurt a fly, but she has difficultly communicating and now prefers the company of her Dragon Pokemon to the company of other trainers and people.

She serves as the last Elite Four member at the Seacliff League (of Kaneda), and continues her training and goal setting independently between challengers. It is unclear how much longer she will be interested in acting as an Elite Four member, as she's rumoured to disappear suddenly to head out on her own into other regions, not to be seen again for quite sometime. Personal Information and Background: Not much is known about Hunter. He generally keeps to himself but enjoys traveling the land in search of challenges and knowledge. His Zangoose is always at his side protecting him and keeping him company. Many have said the Zangoose is wild and impossible to trust, but there have been no stories of violence and many suggest the rumours arise from its brute strength and merciless battling style. Considerations: First of all, sorry if you find english issues. I tried to perform my best. That being said, Inoshi was designed strictly following the briefing when it says that this was not an art contest. So I reserved more time for the content instead of wasting it with hand made drawings. You can see that when you check the avatars of Gym Leaders, Professors and the Elite 4. They were humanized to make us feel how they could look like if Pokémon was truly real. Therefore, you will find some unique things about Inoshi that cannot be found yet in the pokemon games we know. For example, the possibility to choose what city you start your journey in a way that option affects your starter pokemon, which also affects the gyms you wil have to face during your journey. A thing that I decided to not include for this was the Pokémon you may be able to find while fishing due the priority I gave to other stuff. Inoshi is a region designed way more for massive multiplayer than solo campaign. You can see that when it cames to the size of the continent. You dont have only one path to follow, you can make a different course from other trainers in your travel to reach the 8 badges. Also, the fact that we dont have a protagonist and a rival give the idea that this person could be anyone! You, me, trainers from every corner in a constant change, that leaves the spotlight of  the game for your character. Places like the Berry Market could be used to seed your own berries, making a whole new market for these! The Air Mail, located mainly in Windmount could work as a system for trades and deals, sparing time from players when it comes to business. At last, I hope you guys enjoy the conection between some of legendary Pokémon I choose for Inoshi and the goals of Team Boost! They were made to be real scary. Their actions went further than Team Rocket when it comes to illegal activities surrounding Pokémon, so the intention was to make Team Boost feared and kinda of insane! And what could be more dreadful than host a secret lab in an abandoned town hall in Dorston Village? What I liked creating some of its places is the possibility to implement even more cool stuff with already existing locations. Why could not the Silverbrook Swamp hides a portal to the reserve world unleashing Giratina? So that's it, flexible and multiple opportunities to explore. I hope you all like and of course all of this can be worth winning the contest! :D

P.S. I dont know when the results will be announced but I will be on a business travel until june 02.

P.S. 2. Finding trouble to read some link? Try to zoom the images in your browser or save at your computer.
