I could have sworn I've seen some players having a hairstyle that still showed with their hats

I was hoping the ponytail would still come out of the hat (i wanted a hilda type look) but now i've seen the hat completely erases the ponytail.

What are some hairstlyes that work with hats?

Generally speaking (i.e for a majority of hats) , all of them except the following:

    Pony Tail
    Flat Top
    Electric Storm
    Afro
    Disco Afro

Pony Tail, Flat Top & Electric Storm are compatible in all cases except throwing in battle, where they defaults to a standardized hairstyle.

Afro & Disco Afro are not compatible with any hats at all, and default in all cases.

There is no risk to game balance when a feature such as this can be tweaked to any degree

Right now there is a definitive 2:1 exchange per breed, something we implemented specifically to counteract inflation and help balance the concept of breeding. (refinement for cost)

Any movement in a direction that is "More than 2 for 1 exchange" is a risk of sorts, to the point where the question becomes "Is it worth creating such a gimmick at all, given how it defeats the purpose of the way we've adapted the mechanic in the first place?"

Nothing wrong the idea of giving small RNG bonuses here and there under certain circumstances, this just [probably] isn't the right one.

So the player character sprites are subject to change? Is this to account for potentially Black/White styled sprites? If so, might be wise to set up a basis for that sooner rather than later, as adjusting cosmetics might be a pain in the rear. I'm working on game dev stuff, myself, running into issues with having to throw away a bunch of well-made cosmetics and redo them because the character has changed. In my case I totally wish we would've finalized things sooner.

Willing to help contribute to the re-designing effort if this is the case. Personally I think the B/W sprites are killer and I made a bunch of templates at one point for hobby reasons.

To clarify; The vanities provided by players as a suggestion are subject to change.

It is unlikely that this point that the player sprites themselves are going to undergo a redesign.

  4. Hi @EikoBiko

Thank you for your interest in player suggested vanities.

To answer a couple of your questions:

    - I'm fairly reluctant to release an entire sprite sheet for PokeMMO's characters, nor is it probably necessary, as it's unlikely that vanities will remain exactly the same as the one provided by the player, to the one that ends up in being finalized.

    - Hair is coloured in the game engine (as is anything considered 'colourable'), and it does use grayscale as a base, you can find the respective colours here:

    image.png.8c34e58dd2bc47c27c803ec76713e7cb.png

    - As far as additional information for suggestions go, there is a 'Non colourable layer', in the above example this would be the pink hair bands, and a 'night time' layer, used for making certain parts of an item glow at night.

If you wanted to give an example of how an item is animated, note that most animated items follow the movement of the player sprite, which uses this animation pattern:

Frame 1 (Standing still) > Frame 2 (First step) > Frame 1 (Standing still) > Frame 3 (Second Step) and repeat.

Some items have separate animations that are independent of the character movement, however due to how these are coded, they're usually reserved for Limited time items (such as the recent Plague Doctor Masks).

    I hope this information helps.

Well, the only thing that truly matters on PokeMMO is the economy. Not the gameplay, not the experience, not the playerbase, but the economy.

The economy plays a vital role in all of the above, providing worthwhile reward for players and ensuring stable prices for the commodities they obtain and sell, hence it should not be be disregarded.

but that still doesnt excuse the fact that im not able to one shot something with a super effective move when im a whole 14 levels higher than it.

Given that there is not a point during any storyline where it's possible to level 14 levels above your opponent [and have your party member obey], I have some doubts.

I see a seasonal hex coat , i dont like it im just wondering what it means that it has extra animations .      Does it float in the air while u running ? And the other dont ?

It means that it's non-static, it either moves/sways with your character or has an animation by itself.

Also , if  u buy an helmet  , do glasses can be bought to it , and armor .

Glasses sit on the characters 'Eye' slot, while a helmet goes on the 'Head' slot, so they can used together.

What stuff doesnt fit together  ?        Like helmet and hair ?  .

You can preview all items within the Gift Shop to see before you choose to use your reward points, most things are compatible with one another.

And can u equip the cosmetics and unequip or are they permanent on you attached . Thanks

Items can be equipped/unequipped at your leisure.

That being said, regardless it'd still be a lot of work to implement this. Every single cosmetic item in the game now and in the future would have to be redesigned for each pose. You're literally multiplying the work needed for customization in this game for something that doesn't have a very large effect.

How you've described it here is how it's currently designed, with overlays for each vanity - you're correct in saying they'd need to be redrawn for each pose, which has a significant effect on the time required for each vanity.

Leveling caps obviously favor pokemon that belong to the slow experience group, as they tend to be stronger per level. I suggest that if these level caps are to be maintained, then modify the level caps to be different for each experience group.

I understand the point you're making, but this would be incredibly confusing from the perspective of a new player (which the level caps pretty much exclusively effect).

So I used to play awhile back and there were happy eyes I always used them but I came back after a few years only to find them gone, was there a reason for it to be removed?

    Sorry if it's bothersome.

    So to explain:

The width and height of the default eyes are 2x2 pixels.

Many of our vanity items are shaped around this fact.

The 'Happy eyes' were 3x2, breaking visual compatibility with many items, and were thus removed.

    Apologies for the inconvenience.

I mean, the teams are completely inaccurate to each E4. Like, why does Lorelei have a Dragonite and Exeggutor when she's an Ice Type user?

So they're not unbalanced, but also - a fair few inclusions of non-specialized typed species are inspired by various forms of other media.

It most likely refers to the fact that lucky eggs can now be found on pelipper. Not that the lucky egg rate on Chansey has increased.

Unless we get confirmation from @Kyu or another dev that the lucky egg hold rate was increased on chansey, then the only conclusion that can be drawn from the “increased availability” is that smaller ones can be found on pelipper.

It refers to both, the Lucky Egg held rate was increased in addition to the Lucky Egg (Small) being placed elsewhere.

  13. Well I'm sorry to disappoint, but we're neither going to enable image uploading to the PokeMMO Game Server or the ability to post embedded links in chat.

Both of which have potential for abuse, with the former also adding to server load for little to no benefit.

However, thank you for the suggestion.

  14. Each region has its own level cap per-badge, your current party/existing monsters are stored in the PC and the story will start over as usual.

You are able to take any existing monsters you own from the PC but they will follow the badge caps from within that new region.

It does not cost anything to travel between regions and there are no cooldowns, however you'll need to speak to your Mother (before you have 4 badges and have reached that regions respective port town) if you wish to travel back before you finish the new regions story.

Yes you keep all of your items and money too.

  15. While it is true in most cases, 'costly' is not synonymous with 'rare'.

I'll explain; Lucky Eggs were more expensive prior to the consumable changes because they were a permanent boost that everybody benefited from at all times - to the point where it effectively became the exp floor - nobody leveled up their monsters without it.

Their value was also permanent, hence they were more expensive.

And it is also true that in terms of held item rate, the Lucky Egg was lower pre-update.

However, in terms of actual quantity, the Lucky Egg was incredibly common - there was a large stockpile with more being added to the game every day.

The Lucky Egg wasn't rare in the literal sense at all, they were destined to go down in price as time went on, because the quantity of them would only ever increase.

The recent update made them a more stable commodity, with their value likely remaining roughly the same as it is currently, because they are being brought out of the game as they're being brought in.

They're rarer now than they were before.

In regards to breeding, as pointed out above - it's arguably easier here than it is in vanilla.

And to further this - in regards to expense, your comps are your primary tools for the rest of the game, it would be difficult to name something that could be justifiably given so much focus.

Even so, the price of a comp scales with how 'perfect' you'd like them to be, usable comps are not very expensive at all, with 'perfect' comps being costly, which is a reasonable expense as they aren't necessary, rather an advantageous luxury.

Really no point of going through all that effort to hunt a legendary that has basically the same encounter rate as a shiny just for its dex entry.

So then don't, if you don't deem it worth it - it's a fairly active in-game feature, so not many seem to agree.

  17. 8 minutes ago, Cacha said:

This "exclusivity" was lost in the 4th gen, the number of legendary today is huge

Not to get too involved in the discussion, but I keep seeing this particular point being brought up (by numerous people, not just yourself).

    So I ask; so what?

Just because there are lots of legendaries does not mean that they shouldn't be considered 'legendary' as their name/implementation in design would imply.

Individually, they're still legendary - you might personally think that having too many legendary species makes them less special, and you would be entitled to your opinion and some would agree with you - but it's besides the point, they're still legendary and they're still largely exclusive on some level.

It is true that there are multiple of certain legendary species, some years ago I made a rather in-depth list which has since been lost to time; however on an individual level, these species are still incredibly scarce.
